Hey Guys, I have been beating my head against a brick wall trying to fix my phone.
Yesterday I was on a call with someone and suddenly I lost service (not uncommon for where I was since I have weak service there), but this time the phone was frozen. The dialer screen was on but was frozen. My phone would not react to anything. So naturally I pulled the battery and rebooted the phone. The phone started up as normally it would but then after 5 minutes of the phone running it froze again. During those five minutes I never received any cell signal.
The most recent "work" I had done on my phone was change the kernel to the AK Kernel on the guide here. This was done 3 days before anything started happening. I tried a new kernel because ever since upgrading to Paranoid 3.0 my phone was acting slow and occasionally I would get a screen of death typically about once a day. The 3 days that I had the new kernel, everything was working great (phone was faster, responsive and no SOD).
I tried restoring a nandroid before upgrading the kernel and it made no difference. Ever since the first time my phone down freezes after 3-5 mins after booting up. Nothing that I have tried has fixed the issue.
I have done a clean install, tried locking and re-rooting, tried a different kernel. All to no avail. Please help I am thinking there is something seriously wrong and may need to take it back to verizon. I am trying to restore my device to stock but am unable to do so. I have been using this guide: Restore to Stock. Any suggestions to make it "clean" enough to get verizon to replace it?
I'm going through withdrawals, please help!
Could not fix it, so I contacted tech support and explained everything that I did to try to fix and they just sent me a warranty replacement. I hope that it was a device error and not something that was caused by other ROMs or Kernels.

I've been rooting android phones since the htc hero..ive rooted my gs2 and have had no problems. I have a friend and this was his first android phone, he has always wanted to root because he sees what my phones can do etc. So i root his phone and so far have had to flash 3 roms on it because he keeps having this problem here:
He claims that when his phone battery reaches 0 and shuts off while hes asleep or something over night, he cant turn it back on sometimes. And, when he does manage to get it back on it freezes up at the lock screen and he cant get past that because the touch screen doesnt respond. The only rom this hasnt happaned on with him is strong steves, but ive run the same roms and even more, i flash a rom maybe once every 2 days, somtimes multiple roms in one day and have never experienced this on any android phone.
I want to try and see if its a root problem before I tell him to return it before the 30days in exchange for another galaxy 2...He uses titanium baCK up to restore data, but its only for one app..a game called tap fish. I know titanium doesnt play nice with the galaxy 2 but i also back up one up w/ data and still havent gotten his problem..what do you guys think? im going to return his phone to stock today just to see if it happens on the stock galaxy rom. Any idea what could be causing this or should he return the phone for a new one?
Thanks for any help guyd
several issues here
issue one he is prbly getting los or loss of signal. make sure he is on the ek02 or el13 modem kernel and rom.
issue 2 there is an issue with stock chargers for some where the touchscreen becomes unresponsive.
fyi its 14day return not 30 any more
So... maybe someone else can help me out here. My phone started doing this really cool thing about a week ago where it will just shut off out the blue. I've been scouring Google for similar problems, but cannot find anything. Lots of people complaining about reboots or sleep of death, but not hard shut downs. I don't have to pull the battery to reboot or anything, and it's not restarting, it just shuts off.
Sometimes it will only do it once or twice a day, other times it will do it 5+ times an hour. There seems to be no pattern to it either. Sometimes I will just pick up my phone and its off. Sometimes I will be listening to music with it in my pocket and it goes out. Quite a few times I've been texting or something and watched it just shut off.
It was right around when I flashed AOKP M5, so I assumed it might be that. I tried a new kernel first, which didn't help. Today I flashed MIUI, hoping it would fix my problem, but nope. Still getting reboots. So it does not seem ROM related.
Anything else I should try before trying to get my phone replaced? Who would the warranty even be through. I bought the phone from Amazon wireless. Them? Verizon? Samsung?
go back to complete stock, then see if the problem occurs
Maybe try using the samsung stock rom, without root. If you still have the problem, I think you should contact amazon. Be sure to reset the flash counter before you send it away
Sent from my GT-9100 using ICS Remix pro AOKP
There isn't a flash counter on the GNex.
So I've had my GS3 since launch, about 14 months. Up until Monday, everything was working fine and I had been through a dozen ROMS. Sometimes things would get buggy, I'd flash a new ROM and it would all be great again.
On Tuesday I noticed that when I'd go to use my phone it would not wake up and need a hard reset. As I went through my day I noticed it would randomly freeze to black while being used and require a hard reset to get going again. It probably went through 20 random resets throughout the day until I had a chance to flash a ROM in the evening, thinking everything would be fine.
Flashed the new ROM, noticed almost immediately the freezes were still going on, tried searching various forums for a fix and couldn't find anything that sounded like this problem. I did check through the Ultimate GS3 freezing thread and Ultimate GS3 Sudden Death threads, but neither seemed to have the same problem. Finally I decided to try the dummy file generator described in the freezing thread and after a while it gave a FC. I tried to run it again and it would not run properly, I cleared the data/cache for the program and was trying to try again when the phone froze for the last time.
It is now bricked, it will not hard reset, respond to battery pulls, respond when charging, boot to recovery, nothing. Can't be detected when plugged in to a computer and I will be taking it in today to see if it can be repaired out of warranty. I doubt anyone here can help with fixing the phone, I just thought I should post this so other people might find it if they suffer the same symptoms and can share similar experiences.
Ok, so the past two-three weeks, I've been having the same issues with my phone occurring. It's the T-Mobile G2 variant, with the DZ Engineering HBOOT. Regardless of what rom I install (bear in mind all these issues are across the following, not localized to one specific type of android), be it gingerbread, ics, jellybean, kitkat, these things all occur: Firefox makes my phone freeze for some unknown reason, there is horrendous lag once in a while, even on a stock gingerbread rom, and the final and most annoying issue is that about 3-4 times a day my phone will freeze to the point where I have to take out the battery. My hardware keyboard is starting to go as well but I know that can be easily repaired. Do you think it's starting it's last leg of life? I mean, it seems kind of like it, and I'm probably going to purchase a new phone next paycheck if it keeps it up :/
Im sorry i have no idea about your device issues. As per your description, i guess its a hardware issue.

For me, yesterday whole day i too was suffering seriously since my DZ started to have unresponsive touchscreen and softkeys.
Switched it off and on.
Took out the battery.
Erased cache and dalvik cache. Still no help.
Even in 4EXT recovery, touch didnt respond properly.
I too thought its time for a new Device.
Later on, what i observed was sometimes, when i locked and unlocked my device, then for some 1/2 minute, my soft keys and touch responded. And again it would go dumb.
It was so painfull.
Then i thought of, restoring my Stock nandroid back.
Deleted Android folder from SDcard, even some other folders created by some applications.
Atlast with lots of trouble, i restored back.
Now things are fine again.
Touch is perfectly fine now.
Im posting this, as someday someone may get a clue that these errors can be due to Software issues rather than a hardware.
Thanks...

After reading through that, I think what I'm going to do is probably back up my essential stuff on my SD card to my computer, completely wipe it and transfer the stuff back and do a fresh, rooted stock rom install to see if that might help. I'll report back with the results here after about a day of use or so
So I tried what you posted for your issues, and it didn't help much sadly. Needless to say I have a new daily driver phone now, so I'm gonna turn my Vision into a social/media device so it doesn't go to waste
Hello everyone! I own a Galaxy Nexus that's running one of the Cyanogenmod 4.4 snapshots. While watching a youtube video my phone froze up and shut itself off. I rebooted and after a few moments the same thing happened. When I power up my phone one of two things happen. It either reboots while booting and automatically attempts to boot again or it manages to turn on for a short while and then turns itself off.
I believed the issue was a battery or hardware one at first but after leaving my phone booted in recovery for half an hour with no ill effects I think something else might be up. What do you guys think is the best course of action? The only thing I've done is a factory reset that has done nothing.
Anyone?

Factory Reset and reflash the rom. If that doesn't work try flashing another rom like Vanir. If your phone still shuts off...well unfortunately this may be a hardware related issue, nothing you can do if that's the case. Unless it's your battery which I highly doubt.
I think it's the same thing that happened to me a year ago, check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/bricked-phone-t2306672
for me it was a hw related problem, i had to send the phone back to assistance and have it repaired (it was still under warranty).
Good luck :good:
Thank you all for your ideas. I'll report back my findings later today.
Same problem over here. Tried a lot of roms (custom and stock from Google page), took it to assistance (no warranty though) was told is a hardware issue. Since replacing the mainboard its the same price as a new phone... well you know.
But a curios thing happened: tried to flash the Ubuntu Touch rom, same problem (reboots at Ubuntu start screen) and the Firefox-OS, that one worked (considering it's limitations obviously)!
