Hey,
A few weeks ago I smashed my Note II's screen, and now the time has come to get a new one on the insurance I took out on it (thankfully).
Now, I'm running this ROM with Perseus Kernel.
To get a replacement from the shop, obviously it needs to be stock. Thing is, I have lots of settings (Xposed app settings/DPI changes) and things that I want to save. I've never really done a backup of my phone before, but I've heard I can do a full backup through CWM?
Basically I need:
A copy of the Stock ROM
To be able to make a full and complete backup of the state my phone is currently in
To be able to re-root/flash the ROM to my new Note II, restore said backup, and my phone will be exactly the same as it is now
How would I go about this?
Thanks for any help!
A copy of stock rom. You can get that from ketan's thread.
You can use toolkit to make a nandroid backup. Then in ketan's thread only see the instructions to prop prepare phone for warranty. After the phone has returned just fill full flash cf autoroute.

I'm not new to flashing ROMs on my Evo, however your forums here are a little more cryptic. My son rooted his phone and flashed CWM and a Cyan Rom. He would like to return to rooted stock. Can someone point me in the direction of the latest OTA Stock Rooted Rom for the Samsung Galaxy S Epic II 4G? He apparantlly followed some video tutorial yada yad yada. I realize ROMs are probably flashed thru the recovery console, is flashing similar to flashing on an Evo from that point? (Boot to recovery -> work your way to Flash from Zip ...)
Thanks in advance.

Here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Instructions are on that page, just make sure you use the full restore, and not the preserve data or you can brick. At the current point we don't have a kernel built from source yet, because of this, you must flash back to stock rooted EL29 via ODIN OC or you will brick. I highly suggest you read my thread in my signature because flashing anything ICS for this phone can be extremely dangerous and will brick your phone if you aren't sure what your doing.
Just to be sure you are looking at the right thread, please go to settings>about phone. Make sure model number is SPH-D710. I only say this cause I haven't heard of a Cyan ROM, and (not trying to be a jerk), most people refer to this phone as the epic 4g touch. You got something weird up there, and there are at least 20 different versions of this phone (galaxy s2).

Yes, that is what I meant by Cyan.
Thanks for the links and tips guys, I will check it out tonight.
Short version is this is the Galaxy 2 from Sprint, the one with the long bastardized name. Took forever to find this forum cause I was looking for something closer in name.
Yes it is the bastardized sprint Samsung galaxy s2. Word to the wise stay on this forum. Any other galaxy s2 forum especially international will have a huge possibility of turning the phone into a nice little paper weight. I have to say thanks for taking the time to find out. We have had a bunch of people come through here with paper weights wondering what happened because they didn't bother to read

Is there a flashable zip or whatever you guys use on the Epic somewhere that I can just copy to the sd card vs going thru ADB etc as in the link from above? The phone is already rooted, I don't want to lose root, just load a stock rooted rom on the phone.
Thanks.

Just read the entire OP twice. It's really simple. It will return you back to stock rooted gingerbread EL29
Edit: just realized its the same link. This is not adb. It's an odin one click package. Basically download the file and press a button and you're done

I would follow the posted thread as.. a.) It is the safest way since lots of people have been bricking their phone via flashes b.) This will return the phone to the stock ROM, but it will remain rooted.
Thanks guys(gals?) I'll be trying this tomorrow!

Ok, reporting back.
First we tried the 'don't overwrite data' option, everything appeared to be ok until the phone rebooted. It sat on the 4G splash screen in a continual restarting state for about ten minutes. We tried flashing that twice. After that we tried flashing the factory restore with root option, that worked just fine.
Thanks again for the input.
Now he'll have to restore all of his desired apps, but that's his problem, since I told him not to root in the first place. LOL.
Cheers.
Hi, I'm sure this has been answered but I need specifics as I don't want to Odin the wrong file.
I am returning my phone back to T-Mobile due to dead pixels on screen, I have already received the replacement phone.
Now, I've flashed countless roms\kernels.... what exactly should I do before returning the phone.
Well I recommend using a jig if possible to reset your counter. Well bottom line is make sure to make the phone look unaltered; flash the official firmware as well. Btw I think the jig should be used in download mode. Hope that helps
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Mr. X says it should be flashed via CWM.
Thanks for replying.
Follow the instructions in the sticky [HOWTO] How to restore to complete stock / Recovery from a bad flash
Also make sure your counter is at zero...in download mode is where you would see it. Here is the link to reset your counter if needed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1578184
Radio/ril and nandroid backup or Odin
I thought this might be a good place to ask my question since it has to do with returning back to stock. In reading, I guess the nandroid backup does not include the radio, but does backup the radio ril's.
I'm running one of the ICS ports so my questions are: I've never changed my radio with any of the ports I've installed, but I do have the default radio on my SD card just in case. So if I ever needed to revert back to stock, or use one of my stock nandroid backup's; would it be advised to flash the stock radio before restoring a backup, especially a GB backup. Or will restoring the ril's be enough since I've never flashed a different radio? Question 2...if I Odin back to stock, does that replace the radio, or leave it untouched like the nandroid backup does? So do you need to flash the radio before using Odin back to stock? Thanks
**Edit**I think I found my answer with Odin not touching the radio either. I know flashing the radio would probably just be smart, but would still be curious if restoring just the radio ril's through the backup would be enough? Thanks!

As others have mentioned, you do not need to return to stock or reset your flash counter before sending it in.

So I've been thinking about flashing Paranoid Android 3.6, mostly because of halo and 4.2.2.
What's kept me from root+custom rom for so long is the possibility of a brick, or requiring the warranty and being unable to revert to stock
Had the phone for 6 months now, the longest I've stayed on an official rom on any phone I've had, with the impending release of 4.2.2 in the near future, i'm not sure if now's a good time to root. (Decisions, decisions)
Apart from dropping the phone and have the screen shatter, what could go wrong? Eg. Bricks, sds somehow?
I'm hoping to get a list of things that could go wrong, and the way to get something to go wrong.
Purely so I could avoid just that :good:
Cheers.

There is a best toolkit available for rooting and installing Cwm which u can use and will not create any issue out of it
Since note 2 is quite a old and most of the issue which occurs are solved by some or the other user
I would suggest take a proper EFS backup have a nandroid backup safe somewhere on pc etc after rooting and cwm
And after that enjoy flashing ROMS u like the way u want
Most of the thread has a guide to use / install so u won't have any issue I guess
Just follow the guide and u ll just be fine
All the best

Still a bit jittery, if I follow the guide to the letter, what are the chances of a brick?

Assuming I install the custom rom, and then decide to install official 4.2.2 when it releases, what would I do?
Can I install through kies instead of reverting back to stock and having to deal with the system modified issue?

The most important thing to do before flashing any rom is to create a backup of the EFS partition. I cannot stress it enough how many threads I keep seeing with people crying about losing their imei number and unable to retrieve them. Very important!
Besides that, don't use any rom released before 4.2.1 to minimize the risk of SDS. There's always a risk with rooting and flashing unofficial rom, however, only thing you can do is minimize the risk as much as possible. Good luck.

Is it flashing the Recovery or flashing the rom that carries the risk of erasing the efs?

That is a risk associated with flashing the rom not the recovery. I have never lost my imei from flashing recovery, it usually happens after flashing a custom rom. Fortunately I always have a permanent spot on my PC for my phone EFS backup.

This is a frequent occurrence? In the event that it gets wiped, is restoring the EFS a sure thing, it is there a possibility it won't restore?

Also, if i needed to restore a nandroid backup, would I need to flash a stock kernel? Or just a restore?
Edit- I just read the Mobile Odin thread, and saw "While in theory Mobile ODIN can repartition and flash EFS and bootloaders, it will cowardly refuse to do so, for your own safety."
So, is mobile odin better than flashing from recovery?

If you have n7100 and you want to root and use custom roms my 1 bit of advice would be to just read the guides and tutorials thoroughly before hand. I believe all 4.1.2 roms dont suffer sds. After you root make sure you backup your efs folder and do a full nandroid of your current rom. And copy both to your pc for safe keeping. If its n7105 do the same as a precaution. Alot of people have had problems with n7100 which you can read up on in the forums.

I personally would not go back to stock rom. Theres only one way and thats forwards. What I will say is you need to read and understand all the guides before you attempt to root and install roms.

You can always revert back to stock ROM. Read all the guides on here and make nandroid backups as you go.
What is the best way, to put my phone back to stock, to be able to resell my device. I am leaving Sprint, and want to list my phone either on Swappa or eBay should I list it as being rooted, or should I simply unroot and put back to stock then list my phone. Right now I am running a stock rooted ROM.
Any advice is appreciated

Ok, getting ready to restore my Note II today, and I am still on the Older bootloader, but MK4 base, so just to make sure I have the full process correct, please advise me before I restore, see below :good:
My Process to be:
1) Install TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.0 ??
2) As with most roms wipe data/factory reset prior to flashing! Then flash NEW MC2
DOWNLOAD
3) When finished you hit reboot as you would at the end of any rom flash but before the
phone boots into the system it will automatically boot into my "special" version of TWRP and
finish the process.(Which takes about 10 seconds).
4) When this is done you will be completely unrooted and back to square one with the
exception of the internal sd card. (It will NOT be touched)
5) So if I want to remain rooted then flash the root file (or click the little su guy below) after
the restore zip before you reboot.
Then I should be back to stock and unrooted, unless I flash the root file, correct ?? anything I
am missing before I restore my Note II for resale
