TOP 4g SPEED Sprint Brooklyn Epic 4g Touch - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi, I just wanted to say that after testing many many kernels and modems I have gotten the best result with
i27 kernel & L24 Modem on the Blue Kuban rom for Epic 4g Touch
I am getting around 10/1 on this ICS ROM
Everything else I've tested gave me really poor 4g download speed under 1megabit
Some gave high upload speed over 2megabit.
Will be testing more roms, kernels and modems.
Before this, I was stuck on GB stock EL26 with around 3/0.5 (the best I could hope for was a matching speed in ICS)
Update!!!
Was re-flashing, testing and when coming back FI27 was horrible
Flashed FL25 and that worked great with the L24 Modem...
Update!!!
After playing around some more and doing lots of reading on XDA, I stumbled upon the following procedure:
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-boost-mobile-all-things-root/637007-4g-speed-after-root.html
Basically it talks about using odin to flash a repack of fi27 kernel AGAT_FI27_repack.tar
Then I used the FL24 modem and getting decent speeds once again, although some have said that el29 modem is best.
-Going to update with EL29 Modem when I get the time.

[Q] Epic Rebirth 2.01 Gingerbread install instructions

Anybody have any install instructions on how to use IAP's EI22 Rebirth.gen2.0.1+Samurai_gen2.0.1 Kernel new Gingerbread rom?
I know how to do the CWM flashing etc.... but just wanted to make sure their install package didn't already include things like the EC05 to EI22 modem update etc..
(assuming I do have to do my own ECO5 to EI22 update, anybody have any comments on the "easy" version out there that you can do with CWM?
I really like the previous Rebirth Rom and look forward to this one.
Just wipe and flash as usual. Does not have eco5 to ei22 included. That is separate if you want it unless your already on ei22. Been running this rom with the 2.0.6 samurai kernel for almost a week, and no issues at all. Very good battery life as well!

A Few Questions about ICS Roms...

Hello everyone,
I want to update my phone to an ICS rom, but I am a little confused about the terminology and all the options available. I have a few questions:
1. What is the direction that the development is taking in terms of ICS roms? I mean, I am not really sure what "FC07" means and why it would be better than a different combination of letters and numbers.
In layman's terms, when will we see an ICS rom that could be considered "final" or free of bugs and on par with what Galaxy Nexus users have?
With that said, what is the best ICS rom today?
2. I want to customize my phone for faster internet speeds. I was considering switching to Verizon simply for faster network speeds, but the hassle might not be worth it. What tips do you have to help me achieve faster speeds and more reliable coverage on this phone?
Are there specific modems you would recommend for faster internet speeds?
What about custom PRLs? I was told that you can use a custom PRL to force Verizon 3g speeds on your phone, at risk of your contract being terminated.
Is it true that if I did use a Verizon custom PRL I would achieve speeds identical to if I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon?
Anyway, what combination of modem/custom PRL would you suggest to achieve the best coverage and fastest speeds on the E4GT?
3. I have heard a lot about changing the resolution of the Epic 4g Touch to simulate a 720p display, making the icons smaller. Would you recommend I do this? Does this work with the ICS roms?
4. A while back there were tweaks to improve the quality of the camera, especially for recording movies. I remember a hack for the international Galaxy S2 that did this. I think there was one for the E4GT as well.
Could you refer me to any camera tweaks to increase bitrate and so forth?
5. And finally, which kernel and overclocking apps should I use?
Thanks for taking my questions.
ICS ROMs
Having followed the ICS ROM discussion non-stop I hope I can answer the questions on that part. I'll leave the other questions up to smarter (and more experienced) people than me!
CW (common wisdom) suggests ROM IDs are:
F - Seems to indicate year - in particular, 2012.
May also indicate ICS as seems first introduced around same time.
C - Seems to indicate build month. (A-Jan, B-Feb, etc.)
07 - Seems to indicate build day. (3/7/2012)
FC07 is reported by many to be quite stable but I haven't heard anyone sign off an ICS build to be a daily use ROM. Calkulin's ROMs seem to be quite popular as well - he just released a new FC14 build.
There's reviews for most recent builds on YouTube if you want to get an idea of what is changed. Might help you before you decide whether to jump on ICS now or wait.
As for when one will go OTA - again, CW suggests at least 10 days after a build is approved by Sprint. (Found it in another thread, just don't remember which one.)
If you're thinking about going to ICS, please keep an eye on the thread linked below and follow the instructions when flashing ROMs. There are a lot of bricks going on - reading this may save your phone (and you some $$$)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
Hope this helps!
To answer your question #1....Any of the leaked roms ie: FC07, FC14, are very stable and ready for everyday use for most. Also any of the Roms based off of those rooms like calks, Mijjz, and others. However, the best ICS from out there right now is aokp. Its almost stable with just a few minor bugs. It gives you a TON OF OPTIONS! Do be careful, lots of bricks happening!
Regarding question #2, in ,y experience, hacked Verizon prls sort of iffy. I've tried 11115 with roam control and half of the time it won't connect to 3g and when it does the speeds are mediocre.
Hope this helps! Oh also when going back to gingerbread from ics, USE ODIN TO FLASH AN EL29 TAR! Or else YOU WILL BRICK!!!!!!!
Hey guys. Thanks for all the info.
I just came from a G2x, and this process is way different.
I used Odin to root stock EL29, and then installed Rogue with the one-click. Right?
Now can I flash an EL29 ROM through Rogue? Can I also flash a different modem through Rogue, (i.e. FC07) and a "matching" ROM? And if I follow correctly, after that, if I want to change it, I have to Odin back to EL29 first?
Just trying to catch on to the different terminology.

Think you have a good handle on it. General rule of thumb is:
GB Kernel - CWM/CWMT/ODIN OK
ICS Kernel - Only use ODIN. CWM/CWMT will likely brick at wipe operation.
You might want to read over this thread if you haven't already:

Good luck!
So, if I understand correctly, I can flash different EL versions through Rogue recovery, but if I want to jump on ICS, I need to use Odin.

Actually:
From EL you can flash anything - ODIN/CWM
From ICS/CM9 you need to flash using ODIN - even if it's just to get back to EL and then flash again using CWM.
Hope this clears it up.

Dude, thank you sooo much.
I just got this phone yesterday, and I've read a TON of stuff in this forum, and I just wanted to verify that I was generally on-track with flashing methodology.
I think I'll try a few EL29 ROMs for now.

Question regarding LOS

I'm on CM9 and have been on MIUI ICS and have experienced LOS on both roms (was far worst on MIUI). I was wondering if there are any known fixes for this annoying problem.
Second question is whether this is a problem with the leaked TW ICS based roms as well. I'm thinking about trying BluKuban because this LOS is annoying the **** out of me
I believe it would be a modem issue. Try a different modem. FD19 works best for me, but others have said that el29 worked best for them. Also, after flashing a modem you should flash a tw based ROM and update PRL/Profile before going back to your ROM of choice.

I had the same problem with CM9, even after trying all of the available modems. I've been using the stock ICS leaks for the last couple of weeks and my signal & speeds are the same as they were on stock GB.

I have been using CM9 as my daily driver for about 3 weeks now. With the FD19 modem I have had no problems (some modems such as FD24 gave me some issues.) I was running Nocturnal Venum with the FC24 modem before this with no problems. I don't think the problem is with the rom as much as the modem, but I have had great success with those combinations.
Out of curiosity, which kernel and modem are you running?

What is the latest official stock rooted rom & modem?

Hi,
I have been having some serious LOS & general crappy radio reception. Before I jump ship to the Evo 4G LTE, I would like to revert to whatever the latest 'official' rom & official modem just for testing purposes.
I am using CM9 beta 3, FE22 modem & kernel. I want to try CM9 Beta 5 but I am having too many problems that could be phone related, or just rom/modem related.
I love CM9, but the phone is not as usable with data LOS being a frequent problem for me.
Thanks,
Rich
EL29
That's the official gingerbread release. Everything newer are leaks.

[Q] Maybe someone would be willing to steer me in the right direction

Lately I been flashing ROMs left, and right. Trying to find that ROM that give a sweet performance, keeps a little of the Gapps, and none of the bloatware; as well as I like the interface. I am looking at Calkulin's E4GT 2 v1.6 [ ICS l FE22 l Tweaked l Battery Saver Script, and the Calkulin bare ROM converter. Currently I am running Wicked Sensations v 1.4 with modem FF18, and ICS 4.0.4. Here's where I am needing the help. Since technology moves faster then we can blink, and all the leaks that come out, or even official OTA. To update this forum can be daunting. So what is the latest in modem/kernel? Is the FE22 newer then the FF18? I know each modem will run differently on each phone, but if the FE22 is newer I am will to give it a test run to find out how it works on my phone. Right now as it is I tested the stock EL29, the FB21 (I think that's the number), and the FF18. The FF18 have uped my 5G link speed to 65Mbps. Stock was only 52Mbps, it increased my 4G pick up. Not so much the speed of 4G; as the range. Stronger signal one can say. Anyway Thank for reading, and your help.
what is a build number and what does it mean? The build number tells you when it was released.
Example:
EG30 (Gingerbread 2.3.4) Was released/shipped 07-30-2011
EL13 (Gingerbread 2.3.6) released 12-13-2011/ EL29 (Gingerbread 2.3.6) released 12-29-2011
[E=year – 2011 L=month – December and 13=Date]
So Build FF18 is an Ice Cream Sandwich build of Android – 4.0.4. Built June 18, 2012]
Same numbering is used for modems. So that last one we have is FF18
So if the E=year; How does the L determine month? I under that the first F of the FF build is 2012, but what would the second F be in terms of month? If I go to the Calkulin bare ROM then I should be able to install the FF18 modem correct? Would it be better to install through CWM, or Odin?
Second F is for June... also your statement is a little confusing but I would suggest you using odin to install modems and kernels

Try and break up into paragraphs next time makes it a little easier to figure out but the info you need is in the development section
