[Q] CM10.1 ext SD card filesystem to use - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Aloha,
I am newbie here and flashed my Note 2 LTE with CM 10.1 nightly, after which my SD card is not recognized, i suppose this is because exfat filesystem is not appreciated by CM. As i have 64 gigs SD card, i do not want to flash fat 32, Question: which File System would you recommend

I also have a 64G SD and run a variant of CM. I ended up using FAT32 which so far works quite ok.

But with fat32 we can use max 4 gigs, right?

Yes max 4gb file size with fat32

4gb is the maximum size of a single file and not the total storage.

Newer cm10.1 builds should have ext4 support, which doesn't have the 4gb file size limit that fat32 has. I haven't personally tried it though, so I can't comment on how well it works.

Fat32 is fat32. Cm can't change how it works.

Yes, which is why I was talking about the ext4 support in cm. Ext4 isn't fat32.

Cwm 5.8.4.5 issue exfat

Just noticed it will not use the external 64 gb SD card formatted as exfat. Are there any newer versions that will work with it,and still be able to restore older backups. Thanks.

well considering CWM 5.8... what ever is old... i would suggest trying the newest CWM. 6.0.1.2
Download Rom Manager from the market to install the newest CWM.
or move your backups off your external sd to your internal sd and restore them from there...
note: cwm 5.8.... if i remember correctly had the external and internal backwards, and cwm 6.0.1.2 has them correct..
for further information, cwm has their own website... clockworkmod.com

Didn't really answer my question.. intrrnal and external are not backwards in my version. And from what I've read 6.x still does not support xfat. And also if I upgrade I will not be able to restore my backups.

I read a while ago that becuase it would require a license from Micrsoft, CWM will never support exFat. I strongly suggest that you don't format your 64Gb card to FAT32. The performance of that card will degrade greatly. You should just get an 8Gb card to use with CWM.

I don't understand how that is possible, when exfat is significantly slower that fat32 by design...

CWM dont recognize 64 gb sd card??

Hello my friends...my cwm 6.0.19 i think...however the one that came with the samsung galaxy toolkit v3...this cwm...cant read my micro sd san disk class 10 64 gb card ...??? Why? But with twrp recovery everything is cool...can access my card e.t. c ....so i tried to insert my old 32 gb sd card...cwm did recignize it well..and everything is cool...whats wrong?
Could it be that cwm just support up to 32gb?

Could somebody help me?
Thank you in advance

CWM doesn't recognise ExFAT formatted cards. Size isn't the problem. If you reformat the 64 Gig card with FAT32 then CWM will see it.
I think philz cwm have ex fat support, just have a look there.

By default on windows you won't have option to format card in fat 32 if size is more than 32gb,but search on Web you will find third party applications for it.

May i ask you another thing?
I live in lebanon...what should ..or would be the best modem " radio" for my note 2?
Running miui v4 3.22.2
Perseus kernel.
Some users said that a not good configurated modem for your country will drain your battery faster and gives you a slower internet connection....right?
If you know.plz tell me which modem should i use. Thx

Regarding modem I prefer always that comes bundled with rom unless have any network related issue.
In case you find network issue, you should flash latest modem from stock rom of your carrier /Country.

[Q] Pacman ROM exfat problems

I have my galaxy note 2 running the latetst pacman rom. I purchases a 64gb sandisk SDXC which comes formatted as exfat and i cannot get my phone to recognize it. When i insert it, my phones warns me of a blank or improperly formatted SD card
What is going on here.
It doesn't support exfat, your sd card needs to be formated to fat32. It's the same for any cm based rom.

Im on PAC rom w exfat formatted SD card. If u check out the att note 2 general forum, there is a post about "ex fat on cynagenmod". There is a zip u can flash. The real problem is that there isn't a way yet to switch external sd to internal SD card after having ex fat on the PAC man rom.. Let me know if u can figure that out..

[Q] Exists a fully working way to install apps on external memory?

I have a 32GB microSD installed in my phone and I'd install apps (such as games that need to download many gigabytes of data) on it instead in the "little" internal memory. I tried memory swap mod that swaps the internal with external memory but I have some issues...
Directory bind works very well on 4.1.2 but if your on a 4.2 rom you'll have to use folder mount. Both just move the data to your memory card rather than the app

You could use gl to sd root from Google play

I tried but no luck, after wiping, formatting to ext4 under 2 gigs, flashing rom, gapps then dtapps2sd v2.7.5.2-1 or v2.7.5.3-beta04, ran a2sd check and returned not found.
