[Q] 4.2.2 custom rom poor speaker quality - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently flashed one of the many 4.2.2 custom roms available - the vanilla rootbox one and while i was very impressed by the rom overall I found the speaker output of a lot poorer quality than the official samsung roms.
It wasn't a volume issue, it was the actual quality. It was a lot tinnier without any really guts or definition to it, which I think it one of the great points of the Note 2, the speaker quality.
Having flashed back to stock I could hear the difference immediately.
Am curious as to whether the speaker quality suffers on all the custom 4.2.2 roms or if it was just that one in particular.
Would be grateful for any feedback or opinions.

Terrible Audio Playback

Have any of you experienced terrible audio quality (Tinny sound-sorta like the treble is too high) and a very slight hiss when listening to music on the headphones? Ordered 2 phones from AT and T and both of them have the same issue. I am still debating whether this is an issue or is just the way the phone is.
I had a Tmobile G2 previously and the audio quality when listening to Pandora and other internet radio apps was simply awesome. This is especially disturbing to me as I am absolutely thrilled with the phone in other aspects. Based on your responses I will decide if I want to return the phone to get a replacement or simply get the HTC One X.
FYI I have the AT and T Samsung Galaxy S3 with stock ROM from AT and T.

I have found that equalizers are very helpful. Try a few from the Play Store.

Thanks Gberg. I tried the equalizer app, didnt do too much to alleviate the issue. I will be trying a friends phone to see if it has the same issue to decide.
I checked a friends S3 and found pretty much the same results. It is very much possible the audio playback sound quality is not as good as some of the other phones.
Will be trying a more expensive headset.
Also, Can anyone let me know if rooting the phone and installing a custom rom would make any difference to the sound quality?

Yes...other roms can help/hurt audio as they replace/tweak audio libraries. Cyanogen Mod includes a DSP app. Another thing i have done that helps a lot is to install awesome beats. check the apps and themes forum for installation instructions...of course you must have root.
Hope this helps. Oh BTW..i'm using the Bose MIE2's. While i'm not a huge Bose fan generally....I have found them to be quite satisfactory with equalization.
Try equalizing with DSPManager I know it comes with Gapps on jelly bean it features bass boost and like I said before equalizer that may help or it could just be the device/defected.

[Q] custom roms and less photo quality

I tried customs roms, vanir, beanstalk, and harmony.
All 3 roms had in comparision to stock rom, not even close the same picture
quality. Does somebody noticed same behaviour and is there a camera app with similar
quality to stock camera?
Greetings Edu
I use ProCapture. Cost me $3 ( I think), but I am very pleased with the quality.

Reviews of the "Google Play" (i.e vanilla Android) editions of the Samsung S4 and HTC One complained about a similar drop in camera quality. Apparently, Google's default camera software just isn't very good.

[Q] Looking for a ROM with improved Audio functionality

Hi All
I've had my note 2 now for a while and for the past 6 months have been using a 4.3 ROM which is decent enough and has support for the Xperia Walkman player along with the Clearaudio+ option which I think is fantastic and provides much better quality audio over the stock Note 2.
Trouble is, this Rom, as good as it is, after a few months slows to a crawl for some reason and I have to keep starting from scratch (a common issue it seems with this Rom). So am on the lookout for something similar, and newer, perhaps based on KitKat. Doesn't need to have any Xperia software tied with it, but obviously anything with much improved software on the audio side of things is a must.
Anyone point me towards a suitable Rom?

SOUND QUALITY (when compared with devices equipped with the Wolfson DAC )

Just curiuous about the sound quality of the Oppo find 7 compared with those devices carrying the Wolfson DAC .
Regardin headset output
Anyone?
I don't know about headphones but all i know is this phone has the loudest and clearest speakers i have ever seen on a smartphone. I have owned all of the galaxy models, droid dna, xperia z2, optimus g pro, nexus 4, huawei mate; to name a few. Besides the HTC Boom sound i don't think many others come close. Most of the time it is literally too loud for general use at full volume.
Thanks
But I am really interested on the headset sound quality.
No external speaker can match my JBL portable ( for phones) ..
.
Actually, it would be interesting to know what is the it's the impact (if any)of the cooperation between Waves and Wolfson ( http://www.analog-eetimes.com/en/mo...-technologies.html?cmp_id=7&news_id=222905459 ) on the find 7, since the Snapdragon processor got its own DAC...

This is my second device with Snapdragon DAC(first was a Xiaomi Mi-2) and both has a very good sound output with well balance equalizer and 0 distortion. MaxxAudio and DiracHD(in ColorOS) it's DSP and as well they put they signature efects and equalizer, this things I don't like. Comparing to Wolfson DAC in my Galaxy devices ,my iPhone 1st gen and my iPod I can't complain about quality and power output, of course they have diferent signatures of sound but every DAC and headphone has too.

I am also not that impressed with this "award winning" maxxaudio thing and I wonder if it's any better than Viper4Android as a DSP manager.
I guess I just have to take my headsets to a showroom and run some tests on another device carrying probably the same Qualcomm built-in DAC such as the HTC 1 M8.
However it could be that the HTC got another amp implementation ......

As a DSP manager MaxxAudio has a good performance and serve for his purpose that is general public and even Viper has a profile that's similar to it. Equalizers and DSP are fairly wrong because they aren't correct anything but adding something that they don't need used and makes even a great DAC like Wolfson sounds bad.
I'll be able to give you subjective views soon enough
I own the SGS3 (with Boeffla sound) and have the Oppo Find 7 coming to me within a week.
I own the Modded D2Ks (essentailly D5Ks) and Audeo Phonak PFE232s

Hey there!
Here's my impressions - I just got the phone today and have been playing around with it.
It's almost 3am here and I've got work tomorrow at 9 lol!
Sound impressions: extremely positive, it sounds great!
If I had to compare, I would say (and this is being EXTREMELY analytical of the sound, A/Bing and trying to listen out to certain parts of songs - difference isn't that obvious):
-S3 has a more meatier sound, little more bass emphasis
-S3 and Find 7 have the same output volume (or very close to it)
-Oppo Find 7 is more mid centric
-S3's soundstage is slightly wider/deeper
-Highs seem very similar
Notes:
-Tests conducted un-amped with my heavily modded D2Ks
-This was tested with the S3 using DeltaROM that has Boeflla kernel, but I made sure to disable Boeffla sound in the configurator, before stating the above results. (With Boeflla enabled, the S3 wins in every way, hands down)
-Oppo Find 7 is running stock ROM Colour OS 1.2.6i.
-Both are running Poweramp (unlocked) with flat EQs
-Both phones are on Android 4.3
End of the day, there's an extremely slight difference between the two. It isn't something like the S2's (yes numero dos) horrible chipset (as far as I'm, aware subjectively speaking), but nor is it better sounding than the S3 nor the beast the S1.
It lies between the S2 and S3's sound. Great but not as good I guess.
I listen to music a heck of a lot on my phone and I think I'll cope with with this initial listen - in other words, it's not something that will make me put it down, it's something I'll stick to and happily listen to
On a separate note: the Oppo Find 7 is an amazing phone, blistering fast, charging was ridiculously good, the camera is decent (especially the front facing one) and the Colour OS skin is the best Android skin I've ever come across (ie HTC's Sense and Samsung's TW).
However, I'm a little disappointed by its overall brightness levels , lack of pull-down notification customisation and little washed out colours.
other than those three points (which can all potentially be sorted out via a custom rom), the phone is so far flawless

No problem.
I am new at the Find 7 forums ( here and there) and I didint even get my Find 7 yet, but if I were you I would not compare the screen with a sAmoled device...and... just flash a CM or AOSP rom to check if the issue is softwarewise
If it's not the hardware, I guess a firmware upgrade will do ( if you want to stick with stock)

Dont forget to report back
Since it's a bit off-topic ( no big deal ) you could start a dedicated thread here at the XDA
My Find 7 is probably arriving tomorrow...
I hope it's from a new batch, even if it's coming from England and not China ....:fingers-crossed:

flashed nameless - seems like the same thing in terms of brightness - I'm just wondering if it's a device/glass thing, rather than anything else....I'#ms tarting to doubt myself.
But each time I see comparisons on YouTube, the S5 and Oppo look identical in brightness
Btw: Nameless is RIDICULOUSLY fast !

What phone should I choose for the best camera quality using LOS?

Hi, simple question:
"What phone should I choose for the best camera quality using LOS?"
I've recently tried the Axon 7 which is great phone in every aspect, except that it has terrible camera quality under LOS. The old Samsung Galaxy S5 had a good camera under LOS (not as good as stock but not bad quality overall).
I know that camera quality in general in LOS is worse than stock, but that aside, if you were selecting a device purely to get the best possible image quality under LOS what device would it be?
I am not looking for an answer based on specs, but rather based on your own personal real-world experience.
Thanks,
JamesK
PS: It would be especially great if you are able to provide links to actual images taken with your phone under LOS.
bump
Good question. Sorry no one replied.
