[Q] Couple problems with CM7 mobile data and GPS - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First on is about mobile data toggling.
I'm having problem when turning on the HSDPA connection.
I was using CM9 with kernel 3 from xda developers forum (unofficial CM mod) and found it slow and couple of problems with it, including Mobile data toggling problem and switched to 7.2 back. Before the install, I used superwipeg2+ext4 and I deleted all the caches with CWMR afterward, then installed the CM7.2 stable. Everything runs fine except the 3G toggling. It sometimes doesn't turn on. I changed the following CyanogenMod settings->Interface>Notification Power Widget>Widget buttons an added the mobile data on/off to my swipe widget menu. What is interesting is that when I enable the mobile data from widget, it doesn't generally turn on and when I check the Settings>Wireless->Mobile I see data mobile data was not turned on there even though widget shows it is enabled. If I even turn on from Mobile Data menu in settings, 3G doesn't turn on and I have to toggle between 2G/3G to turn on the 3G mobile data. I had the exact same problem with CM9.1.0 unofficial mod with 3.0 kernel. I have changed radio to stock .26 to 26.13.04.19_M with both ROMS, still have the same problem.
Addition: Tried latest nightly, it is the same. I though it was about network preferences. I tried every mode; GSM/WCDMA auto, WCDMA preferred, WCDMA or GSM only and at first I though some of the mods fixed the problem but they were not, It worked because it resets the cellular connectivity when chosen. The 3G toggling appears to be working completely randomly. That is the issue in a nutshell.
Second problem and about GPS & navigation.
Even though I turn the gps on, there is no indicator on the top bar that it is on. Also in Car Home mode, Navigation is not working. Nothing with Voice command also works, including voice search even though I flashed Gapps 20110828 with (Google Talk with Video Chat Add-On).
Awaiting for answers. Thank you !

[Q] Mobile Data toggle broken with Virtuous Sense 2.0.0. Fixes?

Having some problems on my Desire Z (rooted, s-off with rage/gfree) after upgrading from Virtuous 1.0.2...
I was using JuiceDefender 3.5.6beta to toggle my mobile data at 15 minute intervals. It worked fine at first, however after 5 hours (approximately, it varies) the toggle breaks; it tries to initialize the mobile data connection, but no data is transmitted or received.
If I go to "Settings>Wireless and Networks", the "Mobile Data" checkbox is ticked, but instead of saying "Connected", it says "Use mobile data for data connection when Wi-Fi is unavailable" or something similar. Wi-Fi is not turned on, so I'm not sure what's going on.
When this happened, I tried the following solutions:
Disable JuiceDefender and manually toggle the "Moble Data" checkbox in "Settings>Wireless and Networks"
This occasionally works, allowing mobile data to connect, but most times it just greys out, says "Turning on..." and stays that way.
Incidentally, JuiceDefender does not modify APNs to toggle data, so it's not an APN issue (otherwise, I'd never be able to connect, right?), and the dev claims to support Gingerbread since v3.5.0.
After disabling JuiceDefender completely, I try the below solutions:
Turning Airplane Mode on and off
Also does not solve the problem.
Turn Wifi on, wait until it connects, leave it for a few minutes, then turn it off.
Very strangely, mobile data can connect after doing this, but subsequent tries to toggle mobile data manually from "Settings>Wireless and Networks" without doing this voodoo do not work.
Check out the phone information via *#*#4636#*#*
The test menu shows "GPRS service: Disconnected" and the ping test does not work. Turning the radio on and off from this menu does not solve the problem.
Reboot
This is the next-to-final resort, and solves the problem, until 5 hours later.
Flash radio, match RIL, wipe EFS
So far, i have had this same problem despite flashing from 26.03.02.26 to 26.04.02.17, and then to 26.10.04.03. It doesn't seem to matter which radio I use.
I know that the XDA thread for this ROM (which I, as a noob, can't post on) has some reports of issues with mobile data, but those were solved by flashing radios and matching RILs.
Any suggestions?

[Q] WiFi drops under multiple custom roms

Hi,
I am having problems with wifi drops under custom roms (I've tried several CM10 builds and AOKP's JB Milestone 1).
Under a rooted stock rom (UCLH9) and ATT installed kernel (3.0.8-985684) I get a very stable wifi connection.
However, if I install a different rom via ClockworkMod, I'll get wifi connections for ~ 30 seconds (or until data stops transmitting), and then it will drop out. I have to cycle the wifi on and off to re-establish a connection. Again, I'll stay connected for 30 seconds or less and wifi will drop again. The rest of the phone works fine.
Despite the dropped connection, the wifi icon (under settings) will say connected but show no signal bars. In addition, the phone nearly comes to a halt and hangs, as if all processes are being devoted to reconnecting.
This happens on at least two routers (one at home, one at work), so I don't think it is a router issue.
I've seen some people talk about the *#0011# dial code to turn off wifi sleep mode. If I dial this under the rooted stock rom, I'll get the menu as expected. But if I dial this code under either custom ROM first I see "USSD code running" and then I get an error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
If, after all this, I restore to the rooted stock ROM, wifi works and everything is fine.
Any suggestions for getting a wifi functional custom ROM installed would be appreciated.
Thanks
Avram
Sometimes getting a kernel for those type of problems fix it because they are basically replacing your phones access to your drivers (Wifi and so on)
This one puzzled me for a while. The rom comes preset to disable wifi after a certain amount of idle time. Go into Settings>Wireless & Networks>WiFi then press your settings button>Advanced> Keep Wifi On During Sleep> Set to Always. Maybe this is the fix to your problem.
This is happening to me right now with my LG G2, WIFI is stable on the stock rom but drops constantly with any custom rom. Did anyone find a fix for this?
I have tried several fixes including WIFI on during sleep to always, WIFI optimization off, different freq bands, I can't figure this one out...

[Q] Turn Wifi off --> mobile data doesn't turn on automatically *EDIT* fixed!

I've noticed this on several recent JB ROMs (but haven't tried on stock yet)
Phone starts up, mobile data works.
Use Wifi for a while, then turn it off. Mobile data does not come back on automatically.
Either have to toggle mobile data or toggle airplane mode to get mobile data back again.
Anyone else having this issue?
*EDIT* Problem solved. The issue was with Wifi Calling.
When wifi calling was enabled, turning off wifi would not let the phone automatically switch to mobile data.
Disabling wifi calling has fixed this problem. Hope this can help others

Never happened here...??
I found the answer to the problem, see OP

HTC G2/DZ Fails to Toggle 3G on with only CM based roms

Android base versions tested: 2.3.7, 4.0.4 with CyanogenMod 7.2, 9 and 10 and HTC Sence 3.5 and 4 The problem occurs with only CM based roms. The devices 3G connection works without this error with Sense based roms.
I'm having problem when turning on the HSDPA connection. Whenever I don't use the phone more than 1-2 hours (deep sleep I guess) I cannot toggle 3G to be on.
After rooting my phone I installed a CM7.2 stable rom than started using CM9 with kernel 3 from xda developers forum (unofficial CM mod) and found it slow and couple of problems with it, including Mobile data toggling problem and switched to 7.2 back. Before the install, I used superwipeg2+ext4 and I deleted all the caches with 4EXT Recovery afterwards, and then installed the CM7.2 stable. Everything runs fine except the 3G toggling. It sometimes doesn't turn on. I changed the following CyanogenMod Settings > Interface > Notification Power Widget > Widget buttons an added the mobile data on/off to my swipe widget menu. If I even turn on from Mobile Data menu in settings, 3G doesn't turn on and I have to reset my cellular connection by 2G/3G toggle, WCDMA/GSM toggle, Airplane mode toggle or full reboot to turn on the 3G mobile data. I had the exact same problem with CM9.1.0 unofficial mod with 3.0 kernel. I have used various radio versions and I am using 26 to 26.13.04.19_M with both ROMS, still have the same problem.
How to reproduce the error:
1- Randomly toggle mobile data connectivity on/off in a day. (Via widget menu, external widget or directly from settings) Set to off finally.
2- Don't use the phone for more than an hour. (Generally 2 hours)
3- Toggle the mobile connectivity to on. 3G wouldn't turn on.

[Q] CM11 - STRANGE data problem

So I've been having this problem for several months now...
1. When I go into the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#*) it currently says LTE/CDMA (auto PRL)
a. When I switch on LTE from the notification pulldown I cannot get a data signal, however voice calls still work. I can leave searching for 20+ mins. for a signal, it never finds one.
b. When I switch off LTE I am able to get a 3g data connection, and voice calls continue to work
2. When I go into the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and switch to "LTE Only" I am able to get a 4g signal, but no voice calls or sms (as expected),.
I've tried a the 3 most recent radio's. I'e gotten 2 new SIM cards. I've tried clean installs of CM. I haven't tried other ROM's, although I'd be open to suggestions if people have no data issues (I like CM a lot though).
Any one else experiencing anything like this?
Thanks for your help!

I've experienced the same problem on newer nightlies, M5 and M6. I formatted /data, /cache, and /system, then install M4. data + voice work right away.
Try switching to CM11 M4.
I upgraded to M6 (then tried M5 after it didn't work) due to bluetooth issues on M4; specifically, none of the advanced features of bluetooth, such as the ability to sync my text/voicemail notifications and display artist/title info on my dash, didn't work with my car. But I'd rather have reliable mobile data service on M4 with crappy bluetooth support than unusable mobile data service on M6 with great bluetooth support.
Edit: this is a toroplus phone on Sprint, btw.
