I've been at my brother's house this week and today I told him about the OTG cable that I have on the way from China (Might actually be at my house by now, but since I haven't been home since Monday, I won't know until I get back.) that I can use to hook crap up to my XOOM. He said that he might have one from an old Nokia, and sure enough after some digging around in his office, we found the sucker. I hooked up a mouse, keyboard and his DSLR and all of them worked fantastically (The DLSR/Gallery thing is AWESOME!).
Anyways, we just tried to hook up an XBOX 360 controller to play some old Nintendo games (RIP Market *oid emus. You will be missed.) And...It doesn't work! I've looked all over XDA and the internetz and it seems that everyone else has been able to get theirs to work without issues.
The controller is a rechargable wireless controller with a wired USB cable (The one that charges it and also lets you play plugged in to the USB on the XBOX). So, is this the wrong kind of controller for this? Should I get a regular wired XBOX 360 controller?
XOOM'd from the XDA App.
Most of what I've seen of people using the 360 controller on their Xoom involves the wireless USB dongle that MS sells. Can't say for 100% sure though since I don't have an OTG cable to test with.
Wrong kind of controller. The play and charge kit does not enable USB data transfer. I tried this before and found others on the web with the same idea that all failed.

doesnt work for me.it never sync with the usb cable. maybe it needs a special driver or something.
Wired controller only. Or wireless controller with PC dongle.
What games can you play on the Xoom with an Xbox controller?
Emulators

Yeah. I saved mines in Titanium Backup and restored them. You can always get them by googling them. You can then go to coolroms.com to get ROM's or play your backups.
yeah I was hoping to be able to play games like pew pew 2, and gun bros but apparently the developers need to catch up on this feature, I imagining that in the near future more games will support this feature... i'm waiting too.
WTH?
I searched the entire Galaxy Nexus forum and came up with squat on this. ONE whole member seems to have a phonejoy and just one person saying it works isn't really enough of an assurance to take a $50 risk on a controller.
I searched on Google as well for "galaxy nexus phonejoy" and didn't come up with anything either
I thought a big advantage Android had over iPhone, Windows Phone 7 was the fact that you could use an emulator (snesoid, nesoid, etc) + bluetooth controller + MHL adapter plugged into a bigscreen to fully simulate a console.
Does anyone have a phonejoy that they use with the above setup in order to use their phone to its fullest gaming abilities?
Only other options seem to be a wiimote (not viable for games that need 4 right hand buttons) or some sort of rooted PS3 Dual Shock / Sixaxis app (not looking to root)
Well if your going to try mhl setup that and a 360 controller works great. I use that in my A500.
Can't comment on Bluetooth, but it should just work, might require an app. You might get more answers in a tablet forum. Go try in the prime section there are probably more people doing what you asking for

Six axis controller app. Nuff said.
let it be.
I have a phonejoy and yes it work great on Nexus. You need BluezIME to make it work.

I bought that when sixaxis didnt work on CM7 for my SG S2.
MHL+phonejoy is awesome. Playing emulator on TV

USB OTG Adapter + USB XBOX360 controller works like a charm (I would add a Powered USB Hub in the middle so the controller doesn't drain power from the phone battery)... But, as you are using the USB port, no MHL joy in this case...
Some people say XBOX360 Wireless controller works fine if you have the Wireless Kit for PC, which comes with an USB - XBOX Wireless adapter, never tried that, so I can't say it works for sure...
Finally, which is the best (and in my oppinion only good alternative) option to play in the big screen, MHL - HDMI adapter to connect phone to TV, and, Six Axis (PS3) Controller and the SixAxis APP like @rbiter recommended.... You will probably need root and the USB OTG adapter helps PS3 controller pairing process much easier, but if you don't have the USB OTG adapter, you can use a PC to do this pairing proccess, just don't ask me how as I have no idea...

I think the six axis app doesn't require the PC pairing anymore. I could be wrong because I haven't messed with it since the last major updae. I think the dev put some magic in his code.
let it be.
The wireless 360 does work with dongle but with that it will not work with onlive,
does anyone know if that universal onlive controller would work with everything, i believe it connects via Bluetooth
i haven't done this on the nexus but this is my experience with my tablet running
a cm9 build

All the instructions are on the app page. Its easy even if you have to do the PC setup. You're just getting the Bluetooth address off the six axis controller. Its worth it. Trust me. Spending $2 or whatever is a lot cheaper than getting an icontrol controller. And the six axis is good for fpse emulator too.
let it be.
You will laugh at how easy it is to set it up on the computer.

I use six axis, ps3 and the hdmi out to my big screen and it works great on a lot more than just emulators. If you Google six axis you can find lists of games you can use it for, and I'm using for more than what was on the list cause manually setting up profiles for specific games is actually very easy.

Finally bought the expensive mhl adapter for the s3 and after hooking up my phone to my samsung px2370 1080p monitor, I don't like what I'm seeing. The picture looks really fuzzy and reminds me of interlaced output. Plus my monitor is reporting a resolution of 1920x1079. Anyone experiencing the same problem?

Im thinking its because I'm rooted to be honest, it works by shutting off the device first then plugging everything in then turning it on and it's supposed to pick up from there but nothing happens. The same with my One S.

It might just be my pc monitor. I can't even get it to work with my computer via hdmi (dvi works though, as well as with my 360 and ps3). The adapter looks legit to me. I'll be trying it on a different tv and/monitor in a bit

I bought the new MHL adapter as soon as it was available from Samsung. Output from applications like Netflix is reduced quality, this is intentional by the Netflix app. If you play a HD movie, you will see the quality is very good.
My only problem was lag. It looked good, but it was the equivalent of playing a video game with a framerate of around 20 FPS, it made gaming impossible and movies frustrating. I was told it may be my MHL adapter, but I haven't gotten a new one yet.
Saying it's the adapter is the easy answer. I have one that works perfectly on almost any LCD TV I have tried, but on LCD monitors, I have issues usually. I have used it with an HDMI to DVI cable, and got the exact result you described. I think it has something to do with the monitor not recognizing the native output. I haven't used it on an HDMI monitor.
I can confirm it works quite well on almost all TV's.
Ok I think I know what the problem is now. Seems like the s3 only outputs tp 1080i, that explains the flickering and fuzziness on my Led monitor. Is there no mod or hack to at least make it output at 720p instead (since 1080p would probably be to demanding)? Why would samsung stick to just 1080i? Was it the same with previous phones like the s2?

Now that I'm on the puter it's gonna be easier to explain, I bought a T-Mobile MHL kit when
I got the HTC One S and rooted the device but for some reason it wouldn't work with it so
about a month after I had the One S I bought the GS3 and rooted it (still have both) and
tried it with this one and still nothing.
I was told by a few that it might not work on a rooted device but after doing the research it
seems that I'm the only one having this problem but I figured trying it on a different device
should show something, I'm at the point now that I'm sure it's the MHL kit and not a root
problem.
AFAIK only 1 cable/adapter exists that works with the s3 and its an official samsung product. Previous mhl adapters won't work due to a change in pin layout to the connector so if you bought one that isn't marked for the s3, the most likely isn't compatible and won't work. Even official s2 mhl adapters won't work

It figures, I should just restore the One S to stock or sell it but on another note I just posted a tutorial for anyone interested on how to use the GS3 and the PS3 as a media server, connections and settings if you have a PS3 already. In the T-mobile general section.

I saw one of these cool looking "MHL hub" devices for sale on eBay for between 10 and 15 dollars and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with them on the L900 Note2. I ask because I know the domestic versions of these devices often have many features locked out or missing (FM radio, tv-out, etc.).
Also, for those people who have confirmed they work, does using it just as a card reader require that external power be connected? Does using the HDMi output feature require power be connected? Can HDMi output, the card reader, and the usb slot be used simultaneously or can they only be used one at a time? Lastly, will such a unit fit a Note2 with an otterbox defender?
Thanks.

mhl/HDMi
Any updates on this?
I would guess no one has used it. What I can answer for you is that hdmi always requires power. I would think that everything would work at once (my hdmi dock hub does) like a normal usb hub. Now would it work with your case. That would depend on how much room you have when you connect usb.

I have bought a smart dock but It didn't work well for my phone. I then tried it on my sisters
S4 and it worked a bit better. At times it would glitch and the TV would blink on and off. I haven't tried this one yet im tempted to pull the trigger but not yet. I bought an MHL adapter which works much much better, and yesterday I finally got my bluetooth keyboard and mouse and they both work wonderfully. I haven't used them together( I dont have two sets of triple A batteries :/..)

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had success in using an Xbox 360 pad with Tab Pro 10.1? I have a wired an official wired Xbox controller and a USB OTG cable. The tablet picks up the OTG cable fine and picks up things like USB sticks no problem however it just will not work with the Xbox pad, doesn't give a message etc, the lights are on for the pad so there is power but nothing works. I have tried this with latest stock ROM (unrooted etc) and it did nothing, I have also tried this with the latest CM12 nightly and still nothing. I know the OTG cable is fine as the Xbox pad works perfectly through my Oneplus One first time no issues.
Any help is appreciated thanks.

I think you need a custom kernel that can do this. Though I'm not sure and if there is any for your device

I don't know why I bought the Tab Pro, it has been a very mediocre tablet, I actually swore off all Samsung tablets after owning the absolute horrid Tab 3 but I got a really god deal on the Tab Pro, just 200.. Anyway I recently bought a Nvidia Shield 32GB, LTE to replace the Tab Pro as my main tablet. Anyway the Shield has turned out to be just an incredible tablet, blows the Tab Pro away in every conceivable way, especially in speed and stability. Anyway I thought I would use the Tab Pro as a TV/gaming set box, well it couldn't even do that well, their's black bars on either side of the TV when connected via HDMI or Miracast, my Xbox controller doesn't work and I can't have both the HDMI plugged in and Xbox controller at the same time, so gaming on the TV is out of the question unless I get a Bluetooth controller. The Shield of course has an HDMI out, which will be a must have feature for any new tablet I buy going further as I hate dongles. That and it must have a Tegra chip, holy crap is the K1 fast, I will defiantly be buying the next iteration with the X1 and of course the new Shield TV set box.
Anyway I tried everything I could think of to get the Xbox controller to work in both the Touchwiz and Cyanogenmod 12 ROM. Even copied over the Xbox km file to /system/usr/ nothing. This is really driving me crazy.
What's up with these developer people man? Are they American or something? I mean, can't we all just get along???!?
I didn't just offend most people on here did I?

Yea but most of them are as follows:
Hi this is my youtube video. And I'm going to show you how to connect your xbox 360 controller to your android device using an otg cable?
So first you need to buy an otg cable in order to hook your 360 controller using an otg cable? like ok? Know where I'm coming from?
so like, get your android device and hold it in your hand. I like to hold mine in my right hand, but you can hold it in any hand. You might be left handed, or maybe you're right handed but you still wanna hold it with your left hand? Maybe you're one of those omni people who can use both hands....
Long story short, they say "Plug this cable into that cable and then that cable into your device and it SHOULD work".
It doesn't work bro.
