Google Voice Setup - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Im trying google voice again and i setup my account via my computer on the website i just downloaded the app and it is asking to setup with sprint integration or skip to use google voice setup. I already setup sprint integration on the actual website, do i just hit skip since thats already been done?

Mine is already integrated too and every time I install the app I just go through the setup real quick instead of skipping. It works fine for me so that's what I would suggest.

Google Talk with multiple accounts - problem!

Hi all!!
Got a problem with Google Talk and would like to disable one account from using Google Talk.
Home Gmail account works fine and want to use it, but my work gmail account has it disabled server side and my Galaxy Nexus keeps popping up "error - cannot logon".
Its really annoying!!!! There is a sign off option, i do it and it still tries to auto logon. There is nothing under accounts/sync.
Any ideas?
I'm close to removing talk and using whatsapp/ping or something.
This has been a problem eversince talk was released, it picks te first account which has been setup on the phone as default! try search the forum there was a workaround.
Otherwise, remove you accounts, en setup the one you want to use first then the second, this should work.
Talk hasn't been updated since quite a long time, maybe they will update it sometime to make it able to switch accounts.
Think this was put in as a request to google already.
Also think google messenger from G+ app will replace google talk in the future as a chat application .
Thanks for that!! Will prob switch to G+ chat instead then.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I just went to the buddy list of the account that i dont want to use, hit the menu key, then sign out. It hasnt auto logged since. even after a reboot.

Google Play Store Error over Wifi

I’ve had my Epic 4G since August of last year. I ended service with Sprint in the following month and bought the Epic 4G outright to use as an Android device. So I have no data plan on it, I can only go online and download things if there is a wifi connection present. Since I have no home wifi, that means a lot of trips to McDonald’s and Starbucks and the local library. The phone I use to make calls is a cheapo phone on Cricket’s network.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I rooted my phone using QBKing’s tutorial video on Youtube. I am now on Gingerbread.FC09. Everything seemed to work fine. I went to a wifi spot, downloaded Titanium Backup from the Google Play store, everything still worked. I used Titanium Backup to delete four things: Amazon MP3, Nascar, Sprint Football, and Sprint TV & Movies. Nothing else. After that deletion, however, when I try to go to the Google Play Store on a wifi connection, it closes. Not force closes, just…opens than closes as if it was never open in the first place.
I have tried:
-talking to QBKing himself about it (he can’t figure it out either)
-clearing the partition
-clearing the Delvik cache
-finding the most recent version of Google Play Store, downloading it to my phone via mass storage, and installing it by double clicking the apk
-Uninstalling updates for Google Play Store (“clear cache” and “clear data” is always greyed out)
-Deleting Titanium Backup
None of these actions have had any effect. I can still surf the net normally, even upload videos to Youtube. Nothing has been effected except my ability to open Play Store. I even get update notifications that I have apps that need updating.
I have searched xda and while I have found threads with similar issues, none for the Epic 4G. I am not sure if I should take an answer I saw for a completely different phone by a completely different maker and apply it to mine. Plus I wonder if my problem is unique given that I have a phone with no service.
Other info that might help:
-I have Google Services Framework Version 2.3.7. I can’t seem to find a more recent version of that.
-Kernel Version is 2.6.35.7
-No roms, at all, I’ve been too focused on trying to get Google Play Store to work again to even think about getting and flashing roms.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Okay...I went through Accounts and Sync and selected the google account under Manage accounts. Selected remove account, got the warning if I really want to delete it, I selected remove account...then got a popup saying I can only remove this account by resetting the phone to factory defaults.
I've already backed up my phone through clockwork (ate up a bit of my microSD card but its there). So if the only way to delete my Google account is to factory reset my phone, I can get it all back in recovery? But won't it also "recover" the same problem?

Set up another google account, then delete your original one, then set it back up... it will only let you delete your google account if you have more than one set up....
I'm in your shoes as I use my non-activated Epic 4G over WIFI. Do yourself a favor and reflash with Cyanogenmod 9 release ROM and apps:

My Epic 4G has become great to awesome after doing so and Google Play works fine.

Okay, I just went to the local McD's for wifi, set up another Google account, tried to delete the old one...and it gave me the same warning that I have to reset the phone to factory settings to do this. Apparently the first Google account is connected to too many things to just delete it.

I believe you need to clear the data/cache from the Google account manager app in order for it to let you delete that account.
It's one of the google apps anyways. Can't remember exactly which one at the moment.

Okay I have the cyanogenmod saved to my sd card, but I can't seem to download the gapps zip from your link nor from google searches. I'll give it a try when I can. I am kind of hesitant to do this, but...I've already backed up everything in recovery plus I reinstalled Titanium Backup and backed up my apps, so...I should be good to go whenever the gapps zip becomes available. For now I am going to try and figure out what app GuidingArrow is talking about.
Okay, I found a functioning gapps from the official wiki site. So I have flashed my phone following, again, a QBKing tutorial. This Cyanogenmod seems pretty cool. My camera seems to be downgraded, but other than that, nice. I am about to go to a McD's and...hope for the best regarding the Google Play store.
Problem Solved
When I flashed it to Cyanogenmod 9, I soft bricked my phone by trying to install backup (oops). So, I used Odin to restore to stock then rerooted.
Turns out the problem all along was...nothing was mentioned in the vid I saw about flashing the gapps right after flashing the rom. But It was mentioned in the video for flashing to Cyanogenmod 9, so when I restored to stock and then rerooted I flashed gapps this time. And voila, I have the Google Play Store working again. I used Titanium Backup to restore my apps, readded my Google account, and everything is fine and dandy again.
The only thing is, I have decided not to go back to Cyanogenmod 9 for now, not without more research. One of the most important features on the Epic 4G (to me anyway), is the camera, and when I was briefly on Cyanogenmod 9 before I soft bricked my phone, the camera seemed...downgraded, to have less features than it has now. Just going to do more research on that end before flashing it again.

[Q] Google Apps on fire phone

I'm wondering if there is anyone here who can speak to the stability of Google Apps (hangouts, Gmail, etc.) sideloading them onto the fire phone along with Google lay services. I'm really interested in this phone but am not sure if I can give up my gapps.
I've only had the Google Apps on my phone for a day. I don't use hangouts, but I do use Gmail and the Drive suite, as well as Maps. I'm using the most recent version of Amazon's OS.
Here's my take on some of the Google apps:
My Gmail isn't getting refreshing emails as fast as I'd like it to, though I'm not sure if that's some sort of issue on my side (connectivity or something) or an issue with the app (Note, while I'm typing this post, my Gmail just instantly got an email as soon as it was delivered and alerted me to it...). Gmail does nice little popup alerts and seems to integrate well with Amazon's OS, though.
Maps has some issues with road labels on the most recent version (seems to work fine with some older versions, as per a post on this forum somewhere). I'd consider this app a no-go for now, unless you don't need to read road names at any point. The Maps app that comes with the phone is good enough though (it actually looks a lot like a skinned version of Google Maps, without the social integration and "places to go" recommendations) and I've used it for a 2h drive already with no hiccups.
Drive, Quickoffice, Docs, all work well and I'm able to access, edit, etc, on my phone.
Chrome and Chrome to Phone work.
Google Play Music works for music downloaded on the device (unsure how it works with Google's cloud music service)
Google Play (the appstore) works and delivers updates to apps.
I can give hangouts a go, but I'm not really sure what to look for in terms of functionality.
Google Play apps install and run. I've tried Snapchat, Pixel Dungeon, Soundcloud, and some others. G+ login works, and your Google account is set up when you first try to launch the play services like it would be on a brand new stock Android phone so you get the same kind of Google account integration that you expect from Google's Android.
Edit:
I'd see if you can get some more info from other people... As far as I'm aware, installing Google Play and Google Services doesn't work for everybody. They have for me though, and I'm really happy with the device as it is now, especially considering what I paid for it unlocked.

if you're getting successful results then you should consider sharing what you did and how you did it so we can get the ball rolling.
Also you're able to sideload most apps (besides google apps) and they work normally? Im considering buying this phone with the current deal

I detailed what I did here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57161714&postcount=24
(Here's the post where I got the instructions from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57095260&postcount=9 )
I didn't change the directory where I sideloaded the Vending.apk, I just sideloaded it in with everything else. I don't remember if I briefly tried to install the Play store before without Google services, but that's probably why I had to adb install with the -r flag.
Before I installed Google services, some apps were working fine without them. Notably, Snapchat complained every time I brought it up, but ran fine. I would wait a bit for some more input from people... From what I've heard around here, it's just me and another guy (Aztecwarrior, the guy whose method I used in that thread) who have it working at the moment. I'd say you can sideload most applications without installing Google services.
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ is what I used to pull APKs to sideload before installing the Google services and Play store.
EDIT: I should mention that the Play store doesn't just deliver updates to apps... I've been able to completely install and manage applications through it; it works just as you'd expect it to work on any other phone for the moment. i.e., you don't need to sideload apps first to get them on the phone if you've installed all the Google stuff. Sorry for the ambiguity in my previous post.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Another question: so far have you noticed that you've been getting a number of error massages/application crashes? I had previously installed google apps and services on my fire hdx and constantly received messages that various apps were crashing in the background, which I found super annoying.
Has anyone else had luck with play music? Does it work for all access?
Just a follow up on why I care about hangouts- I run all of my phone and text through google voice and this has been integrated into hangouts. I'm a cheapskate and can use the hangouts app to place calls and send/receive texts so I don't pay for minutes or texts. I'm one of the few people who doesn't care too much about missing play store, since I have the hdx, I've got a bunch of apps off of the amazon store.

No background crashes -- yet -- at all. I've also enabled background ANRs in the dev options, and nothing's popped up from that either.
I don't have all access for Music, so I can't comment on that.
I just installed Hangouts and gave it a cursory launch... It loads up, enabled SMS (loaded all my conversations from the Fire Phone's messenger app), has all my contacts loaded up to start a conversation. Is there anything specific you'd want me to try?
Thanks again! Glad to hear you're not getting the annoying error messages. I think this pretty much seals the deal for me.
On the fire phone, is it possible to change the default sms and dialer apps?
On last request.... could you give the hangouts dialer a shot? This allows you to place calls over wifi using hangouts.

Regarding default apps, everything is handled via intents (e.g. I set chrome to take all web requests)... when I enabled hangouts sms, I started getting texts to hangouts without being notified by the default app, so I think that much is configurable. The dialer, I'm not sure.
I'm in class right now (and pretty much until 9pm, and lots of homework), but I'll check hangouts dialer and default apps when I have time.
Did you root it first ,if so, did you use the same method as aztecwarrior?
No root. I used the guide that Aztec referenced, but not his exact steps. Check post #4 in this thread, the first few lines.

I've been using the Play Store, Hangouts, and Gmail off and on the last 12 hours or so. It's been rock solid for me. No crashes. Haven't found any missing features. Maps does seem to have some issues but haven't tried navigation yet, which is what I really would use it for.
Thanks to you all for your input. I bit the bullet and ordered one before the sale ended.
Now I tried the procedure from scratch (all apks uninstalled and rebooted the phone) several times with different apk-Versions (mainly 2 different links as d/l source).
My Play Store is always not getting any connection and I am not able to d/l apps from the store. Additionally, G Servies crashes every few minutes. I did follow the procedure like apk installation order, reboot, etc. No luck .
Btw. my fire phone is NOT rooted and is on fire OS 3.6.2.

Have you tried checking for a firmware update in the settings? When did you get your fire phone? I think the ATT/Carrier-bound FPs have some slight differences in hardware and firmware.

Hi snapplefish,
there is no firmware update available, when I am checking in the settings. I did get my phone from Amazon Germany with T-Mobile Sim lock (German localization - maybe that is why e.g. there is no 3.6.8 fire OS firmware available yet) early october 2014 when it was launched here. They sold it accidently for 10 bucks w/o a carrier contract.
Is there any hardware id of phone that can be checked? I could find:
Fire OS 3.6.2 (122009420)
Model No. SD4930UR
Btw., latest versions of Account Manager and Framework from my second phone do not install. Play Services 6.5 and Play Store 5.0 will install, however, no change compared to the older versions linked in the tutorials --> no 'my apps' tab in G Play Store.

You should be on Fire OS 3.6.8 if you have unlocked phone. I had some issues with some launchers, but the standard Google Now Launcher for the most part seems fine. Appstore is very limited and playstore seems to have a lot of tools...unfortunately it's going to be playing with some apps and seeing if they are stable or not. Battery Doctor, clean master, home switch, and weather & clock seems to work for me.

As I said, checking the update status does not provide the 3.6.8 version to my phone. It is not rooted and after delivery with 3.6.0 I did nothing else to the phone but update it to 3.6.2.
Only the new GSM unlocked phones come with 3.6.8 Sounds like you got your phone before this all happend therefore you are able to downgrade and root, your one of the lucky ones. You can get a AOSP feel to your phone if you want. Not sure why your not following those guides. Heck if you don't want to root then I'll trade you phones lol.
Gmail conacts
I am transferring my contacts to the FIre phone from Android. All my phone contacts are stored in Gmail(google contacts).
Now the problem is i am not able to find a setting option which would show only contacts with Phone no.
It is showing all contacts of Gmail, but i only need contacts with phone no there.
I had the same issue in Android 2.3 or something, when Android had an option of enabling the contacts with phone no only. Later on in Android 4 they moved to keeping all contacts but at the dialup i could search for only contacts with numbers only.
Any suggestion here. May be a different launcher or app?
Thanks
I received my phone and mostly everything is working. Google voice works, and automatically places calls using my gv number. Only issue I'm having is that the hangouts doesn't send sms messages over WiFi (but will over let) and the hangouts dialer has the same issue, I can't place calls via WiFi either. Anyone else find this?

[Q] Google Voice

I have been reading about Google play and different issues with Google services. I will be receiving the phone tomorrow. Google voice (for the voice-mail and transcribed messages) and Gmail are the only 2 apps from google I care about. Anyone have Google Voice working ?
If so how did you enable it.
Thanks!!
It works ok with play services uninstalled. It never was totally reliable though. About 60% of the time it works, the rest of my calls just go out through the cell provider directly. Also you have to keep it open either manually or with an app as it closes down after a while. On my last android phone it worked at least 90% and it didn't have to be watched constantly.
If you rely on anything google, I would just forget this phone though. It is nearly 2 weeks since the play services update and no word or update from google. Without constant fiddling, my gmail, hangouts, and play store are always broken.
Depends
Depends on your setup. If you are using Gvoice with hangouts, be prepared to be frustrated! If you are using Gvoice stand alone, it will work after a few tries.
Hangouts:
Had it working fine with play services 7.0.9 and Fire OS 3.6.8. I did the manual update to 4.6.1 and it all went to hell.. I gained a bunch of functionality but because I use Gvoice integrated in Hangouts I am constantly having issues. Issues ranging from play services updating all the time and causing notifications, sync and reply to all not work, making it useless.
If you are using Gvoice stand alone, it took me a few tires to get outgoing calls to route through Gvoice.. Download and install the Gvoice app, set it for the call settings you want. I had to do this a couple times before those settings stuck.
Until the play services are fixed this is going to be frustrating. I don't see an end in sight right now seeing as it has been this long and I see no official talk about it.

Well the problem here will be that play services is causing us a lot of problems since the update. Other than that I can't imagine it being a problem. I don't install the Google voice app anymore since I forward the calls and Hangouts does work to make calls from voice number. I can vouch for that.
I got the phone, was able to get google voice installed (had to remove the store afterwards) But it will only show new messages when I open the app, there are no notification.
Is it possible to get notifications ?
Working !!!
Had to re-associate phone with Google voice and then notifications would pop up

Guide to activating google app's features in countries where it's unavailable.

This is an easy guide to making all of the normal features of google feed, assistant and stuff work properly on any android 7+ phone (haven't tested below 7) in any country that doesn't allow these features.
this is not for everyone, read this in full before starting so that you know what you are getting into.
so far, there has been no danger to my phone's software doing these stuff.
however im not responsible if you do something wrong. follow the steps properly.
DO NOT DELETE GOOGLE FRAMEWORK DATA ON ANDROID 9. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM
1. first of all download a VPN app from the play store, I personally used the CM VPN but use whatever you want. only important thing is that your vpn must have USA connection.
2. update your google app to the latest version, or even go all the way to the latest beta (I prefer the normal because feed looks nicer)
3. turn on the VPN and go to your location settings, and select GPS Only mode.
4. go to your apps in the settings, press "show system apps" and go to the G letter and find Google Services Framework.
delete all of the cache and data for that app. then find the google app. do the same but it happens in a different window, you gotta press manage data and then delete it from inside the google app.
5. open the google app, wait a few seconds and the google feed shows up. weather is missing and most of the features dont work yet, we will get back to them.
6. disconnect and close the vpn. then restart your device.
7. start by activating the assistant. first i suggest that you pause voice activity in google account settings.then activate the voice assistant step by step to the finish.
8. go to the google app, the 3 lines to the right( settings and stuff) go to assistant settings, in the 2nd tab find "phone" and activate voice unlock (this is just to test if the assistant is working properly) if the voice unlock gets activated properly then you're good, if it doesnt, try deactivating voice and audio activity and try again.
you can disable voice unlock after.
9. so now the assistant is activated, google feed is working, you also need to install a launcher that supports google feed page(i am using lawnchair 2 which is in alpha currently, you can use Nova, Rootless Pixel, or CPL or any other that supports it)
10. in order to get google at a glance on screen if your launcher doesn't have it, there is a widget in your widgets screen, from google themselves.
11. in order to activate the weather, go to location settings, select high accuracy, turn on google location history, and then go to the google feed page in your home screen, on the search bar type "weather" and search for it, open the weather page (the google weather app thingy) and close it. refresh the page and its up and running as the top card.
common problem: disappears after a while
do the search bar thing again and it works.
12. the last thing is reminders. type "reminder" in the search bar of the google feed page, make a reminder, then close the whole thing. open assistant, say show me my reminders, it will tell you the reminder you just set up. delete it using voice commands. then make another reminder using voice commands, go to the google app, open the 3 lines page (bottom right) then open reminders. if you have done everything properly, the reminder you set up in search is gone, and the voice reminder is there. if you don't need it, delete the reminder.
Thats all. I'm living in iran so i know all of this works 100%
Good Luck. ill be answering questions if there is any, whenever i check this again.
