Kindle Fire (Gen 1) Running 4.2.2r1 from Hashcode - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Everyone,
Long time lurker, finally made an account to post some information... and then I find out I can not add this to the dev thread yet...
First of all thanks Hashcode for all of your work in making my Kindle Fire much more useful than Amazon ever intended.
This morning my alarm didn't go off. I had flashed Hashcode's AOSP 4.2.2r1 thursday and relied on it to wake up friday. The alarm program I use is Alarm Clock Xtreme. Here is what happened I used google play to play some music through the headphone jack and did the following procedure.
1. Plug in headphone jack
2. Launch Google Play Music
3. Play custom for me playlist and music came out of the speakers, not the headphone jack
4. Unplug headphone
5. Plugin headphone
6. Listen to music
7. Not sure about order from here on
8. Stop listening to music, exit google play music, disconnect headphone jack
I include this because the alarm did go off, but I had no sound coming from the device. I do not know exactly when sound stopped but things get odd after I woke up found the alarm was going off, but I had no sound. So I ended the alarm program and powered off the device. I turned on the device and it got stuck at the blue kindle fire screen (I waited over 10 minutes to be sure). Then I had to long press the power button to get it to turn off and turned it back on, it booted and things seem to now be okay.
Has anyone else experienced something unusual with sound like this with Hashcode's AOSP 4.2.2r1?

fortunately I have not reproduced the issue...

This happens...
When you unplug your headphones, turn the volume all the way down first, then unplug it. Then turn the volume up and see if the kf rerouted the audio correctly.
I have this happen constantly, so just be aware that it will probably strike again.

Music app pauses itself randomly

Hi guys,
Got a really frustrating issue - my music pauses itself randomly. Seems to happen mostly after 10 mins of listening or so but has happened at other random times too.
This morning on the tube to work it paused as usual and when I went to the Google Music app I noticed it still looked as though it was playing - as in, the pause button was showing rather than the play one. But tapping it did nothing. Also noticed that the little headphones icon in the notification window had disappeared. It then reappeared and the app played as usual again. Doesn't tend to happen after the first pause.
Any ideas?
People mentioning it for other phones but no solutions

Man I had this issue on my GS2. Haven't experienced it on the Nexus yet.
When you're in the tube, try a journey with airplane mode on and see if it happens?
Could also be a problem with the jack.
Try HeadsetBlocker from Market. Some phones don't like (only) Headphones and think its a Headset with microfone. And sometimes they think you pushed a button on Headset and get confused (play, pause, forward, .......).
Had the same problem with my DHD and after installing and activating HeadsetBlocker everything was fine.

Cool thanks guys going to try a test with it on airplane mode first then give headset blocker a try.
Seems quite a widespread problem as reported here
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=63b467e49a9e64b9&hl=en
So going to remove the Listen app and give that a go too.
I tried using Winamp instead but as soon as I turn my screen off it runs like an absolute dog - stuttering all over the place. Nightmare.
Are you using standard headphones, a third party headset or the ones that came with it?
I was listening to music yesterday and today on the tube using my Ultimate Ears - which is a headset with one button and didn't have any problems at all.

Resume play with headset in Google Music?

How do you resume play using the headset button instead of having to turn the screen on and tapping play? This is super annoying how I have to take my phone out of my pocket every time I want to resume.
It works if I pause, then play in a few seconds, but if I wait a few minutes, I have to turn the screen on....
Seems to work with me on stock 4.0.2 and the included Samsung headset. Today I stopped listening to music for over 2 hours, then just put the headphones in, hit the button, and it started playing.
I just timed it, I paused for 3:30 and tried to resume but it doesn't work unless I tap the scteen
I get that, too. I think it has to do when the phone goes into deep sleep. I don't remember if it happened in stock roms as well. I've been on custom 4.0.3 rom since practically the day I bought the phone.
You don't really have to tap on the screen to resume. Waking up the phone via the power button will make it respond to the headset button input. So instead of whipping out the phone every time, you can just reach into your pocket and press the power button then press the headset button. It's a poor workaround, though.

Still don't have to. It can be sitting on the table for 20min and I can put the headphones in and start music. And its not like I'm doing anything fancy. Set up Google Music normally and haven't messed with it. Just works.

Try this, pause the music, DO NOT unplug the headphones and let it sit around for 30 secs or so, then press the headset button to resume playback. If I unplug the headset while paused then plug it back in, headset button will work.
I has this happen.. I hit the button two times and it responded finally. I was using poweramp though.

1) headphones in
2) started song, turned off screen & listened for a couple minutes
3) pause with headphones
4) sit for ~3 min screen off
5) screen still off, headphones in, hit button
6) music starts playing instantly.

Well, it doesn't work for me. It might be a custom ROM or 4.0.3 thing.
I typically run into this when I use the bluetooth audio in my car. With my Nexus One running CM7 I was always able to just sit down, wait a couple seconds for bluetooth to connect, and hit play, all without having to take the phone out of my pocket.
With Galaxy Nexus running stock 4.0.2 the bluetooth still automatically connects when I turn the car on, but play/pause doesn't work until I open up Music and manually hit play. Will try just powering phone on briefly tomorrow.
For those who say they can't reproduce this: have you disconnected your phone from power? The phone doesn't appear to ever enter deep sleep while on a charger, so if it has something to do with deep sleep as someone suggested, that would prevent this.
Mine is not on power when this happens. I am away from my desk a lot at work and I pause/resume frequently to talk to coworkers. So this is very frustrating for me.

Mine works the same whether plugged in or not, I should add.
Same thing happens to mine. I have a single button inline mic on my headphones. One the Nexus One, I could hit the button at anytime to play and it worked just fine. Now I have to double tap the button to get it to work. And it's not completely reliable. I sometimes have to spam the button to get it to come alive.
This is odd because according to my battery usage, my phone hardly ever goes into deep sleep, yet the headphone controls have trouble waking the phone.
I've tried this with UberMusic and Google Music using my headphones and Bluetooth receiver in my car, where it struggles even more. It just doesn't readily respond to the button input. Basically the same problem as this guy: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24364
Anyone come up with a solution
hello.
I thought I had a hardware problem with my Galaxy S2 and posted a thread about it in the i9100 forum.
but some googling brought me to this page. I have the same problem, and seeing how you guys are on different hardware makes me suspect (hope for) a software solution.
any help would be greatfully accepted, this is really annoying.
a better work around for the moment is to install Jays Headset Control from the market, it's free. there is an option somewhere in there that 'beeps' whenever you press the button. so now when the phone is in my pocket i can press and hold until i hear the beep, which means i can then press again to continue playing.
hope that helps a bit.
currently running android 2.3.6

[Q] Any method to pause pandora...?

Hey everyone!
I've began using my car's Bluetooth to stream music as oppose to the usual auxiliary cable. One big issue I've notice is that Pandora won't pause the music after the BT gets disconnected. The audio just gets redirected back into the phone's speaker... I thought Pandora would pause the music like it normally does when you unplug your headphones... I tried using tasker to perform a "kill" app command when BT gets disconnected, but that doesn't work. I even tried doing a Media Pause when BT gets disconnected, but that didn't work either... Kinda stumped on what else to try.
Does anyone know a work around for this besides pressing pause before turning off the car?
If anyone knows some method to doing this please let me know. Thanks!!!
This seems to have been broken in Pandora starting at least with version 1.5.13. I found version 1.5.12 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202144
and it works well, pauses about 5 seconds after bluetooth disconnect so you still get a little bit of that annoyance, but it is tolerable. This version doesn't always show the album art (not sure what is up with that,) but that doesn't bother me.

Kindle fire headphones issue

So I rooted my kindle and have been running an aokp jelly bean build. Whenever I am listening to music, sometimes the audio will cut out and I have to unplug the headphones and readjust the volume to get it working properly, or if the screen goes out and I turn it back on, the volume will play thru the speakers instead of headphones. Has anyone experienced the same issue or have any ideas of a possible fix?

Audio playback stopping/muting?

I'm having issues with the playback on my N5X when using headphones w/ remote. Bluetooth seems to work without issue.
The problem is, randomly, and usually within a minute of starting audio and putting the screen to sleep, audio playback will stop. Once I unlock the phone, it looks as if the OS still thinks audio is playing. If I toggle the play/pause button, I can get it to restart audio, but it does not pick up at the point where I heard the audio stop -- as if it continued playing while "muted". This occurs in at least 2 separate apps, which is why i'm thinking it's either an Android bug or possible a HW issue.
Anyone seen this?
Well I guess that answers my question...

I've had a problem playing audio using Podcast Addict over bluetooth, but it's not similar to what you're describing. In my case, playback just pauses randomly for a second or two, then continues. This can happen after 1 minute of playback, or 20 minutes. I'm assuming at this point that my problem is with the app, android 6.0 is still very new and some apps may have problems (like camera apps flipping everything upside-down).
Exactly the same issues with my Nexus 5X... Deezer and Podcast Addict. Music starts but as soon as the display is turned off, approx. one minute later the sound stopps but when I turn the phone on again the player looks like still playing... Very annoying... Have you changed someting like the "lock when power button is pushed" option ore anything which is connected to the display?
Same here with Spotify... I find that I have to unplug and replug the headphones, hit pause, then play again. :/ Have you tried disabling Doze for your music player? It may have something to do with that, but I haven't experimented with it yet.

Yes I Had this problem. Mine did the exact same thing as yours. I rebooted the phone and it seemed to fix the problem. I can't tell if I would have had the problem again because I sent my phone back the next day for a replacement. My WiFi was terribly slow so they are sending me a new 5X.
I'm having the same problem when I use Google Music. I don't even have to turn the screen off. Did you have any luck figuring the problem out?

Yes, I did deselect "Power button instantly locks". I'll try putting it back to the default to see what happens. I know this has nothing to do with the "Smart Lock" state, because it happens even when I'm away from home.
Otherwise, I've found nothing that solves the issue. It's very annoying. The good thing is it probably only happens 10% of the time when I turn off the display with audio playing.
Yeah it's happening every single time I play music. Driving me crazy
Having the same problem. Seems to only happen when I'm doing something that would trigger the motion sensors. So when walking, all audio gets muted within a few seconds of me starting to walk, then stays muted. However, if I pause the audio, after 10 seconds I hear a pop (like the sound of a speaker turning off or something similar) and audio is available again. Exact same thing happens when I'm biking. If I'm stopped, music will continue until I start biking again, pause music, ten seconds later pop, resume. Everything is fine until I stop again, then repeat.
This isn't a problem when I take the subway, or a bus.
It's not just music that's muted though, all notification noises and alarms are also muted. The phone thinks the volumes are all where they're set, but won't play anything either over headphones, bluetooth or the speaker.
A reboot has not fixed my issue. System logs haven't revealed anything. Since this doesn't seem to be a super widespread problem, I'll be RMA'ing this one and hoping it doesn't happen on my next.
I'm not the only one
I have similar issues with mine, using podcast addict and YouTube with either wired headphones or wired aux jack.
What I find weird is that I am able to continue watching the video but without sound. I am unable to reliably replicate the problem but it always happens very quickly in the car using the wird aux input.
Sometimes the headphones will be fine for a long time while I'm sitting still and other times it will seem to stop even if I have no motion happening or have not touch the headphones.
Would be interested in trouble shooting this please advise.
Putting my phone away without turning off the screen seems to make this happen less. However, since this doesn't seem to be a super widespread problem, I've RMA'd my device. Not interested in starting out with a broken handset.
Been happening to me too - think since the MDB08L update. I just turned off Google Now 'Always On' and my podcast is playing fine (so far, lol). Not ideal because I do use OK Google, but continuous audio playback is way more important to me. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. How can we report issues like this to Google?
Interesting. I use Nova Launcher and switched off Google Now 'Always On' in the phone settings, but left it enabled in Nova Settings 'Gestures and Inputs'. I can still say 'OK Google' on any screen and so far the audio is playing without stopping every minute or so.
Getting this too. Was out running earlier with headphones in, stopped playing randomly five or six times but found skipping track made it work again. At home, had it on loud speaker, got 5 seconds in but it froze, skipped track and got 3 seconds, skipped again and just got 1 second. Gave up after that..
But it works fine when connected to a bluetooth speaker or my car!

I tried this - switched off the "Always On" option. Went for a 40 min run tonight with music on through headphones and it didn't stop playing once.
Even now, got the phone playing through loudspeaker and it's having no problems!
Exact same issue here .
Audio playback stops but device still thinks its playing ie speaker icon on top bar. Sometimes stopping app and restarting helps other times no joy. I have also heard the short pop sound when it stops.
So far has happened in Youtube, google music and in some games. Also intermittent loss of text alert tones too.
Only sure fire way to reset is to restart phone.
I shall give the switching google now always on off trick see if this helps and report back (never use it anyway but still it shouldn't prevent audio)
Try a reboot

I did more searching online and found enough other people are having a similar to think that there's something going on with the software. One post on a nexus 5 X subreddit had talked to Google support and went through a process of a safe mode boot as well as a reboot. I have not tried a safe mode boot but a reboot has resulted in the best playback experience I have had since owning this phone. No interruptions in audio for the last several hours . I'm on Verizon and have not received any updates as far as I'm aware. I am hoping that this will last.
My phone updated yesterday... I'm not sure but I haven't run into this problem yet with the new update. It has only happen 3-4 times before the update but we'll see

After updating yesterday, I had it occur again this morning with video playback and the audio muting. So wouldn't be too hopeful, sadly...
