My sd card has stopped being recognized by my phone. It occasionally is recognized by CWM but then suddenly stops. I have reformatted it on my phone and using disk utility on my Mac, making sure to use fat 32. I have read several posts on Internet describing ways to diagnose and repair sd card using a pc, anybody know of any way to do this on a mac? Also, my mac recognizes it fine, both inside my phone when connected to mac and using the card through a reader. I don't want to scrap it since my computer recognizes it, but I really need it for my phone.

This also happened to me. My guess was the media scanner was messed up in the rom I was using but happened in multiple roms. Probably a software problem, but I couldn't fix the problem until I replaced the microsd card with a completely formatted and different one and has since been okay. I have my other microsd card as a back up though.

We got (3) Incredibles for work. I've rooted and installed a different formatted sd card. The other two are stock with stock sd cards. The boss' can't get his sd card to show up on his pc. It will show up on my pc and the sd card from other stock incredible will show up on the boss' computer. I don't have time to mess with it and thought this would be the best avenue to take to hopefully find the solution. Thanks!
It is a boss test. Looks like he failed.
Really, if it works on your computer and not his, the problem is most likely on his computer. Missing drivers, corrupt drivers etc
the other phones/sd cards are recognized on his computer just fine and his phone/sd card is recognized on my computer.
Subject line is almost correct then.
You have a dilemma.
Must be an interpersonal communication issue lol

I am a newbie to rooting and trying different roms. Today after trying different roms, my phone no longer identifies the sd card. I have tried almost everything but I am unsuccessful. Any help will be grateful thanks.

What rom were you on when the problem started? Do you have a card reader that you could put the sd card into, and then into your computer? Does the computer recognize the card? I would see if you can format the card with your computer, and then put the card back in the phone, and see if that helps. Just keep in mind that formatting the card will completely wipe it, so if you have any important stuff that you need saved, I'd copy it to your computer before formatting it.
Did you try just taking the card out of the phone, then putting it back in? Does the computer see the phone itself when you plug it in to the computer? If so, can you view the card from the computer when you select "disk drive"?
Dont have a card reader and I was using Mikfroyo 4.6. When I flashed back to the original rom that I have been using for the past couple of days it no longer recognizing the sd card

Strange. So the phone doesn't recognize it, nor does the computer when you plug it in via USB, correct? Do you get a green charging led when it's plugged in to the computer? Do you happen to have another phone that uses an sd card, to put your card into the other phone? If not, and you're unable to format the card using the phone, then I'd try to get a card reader. Either borrow one from a friend, or buy one. They're usually pretty cheap. If neither of those options are viable, perhaps see if you could try another sd card in your phone for a sec, if you have access to one. See the phone reads a different card. Hopefully you'll be able to try one of those options. There is a thread laying around here somewhere, by Calkulin, and it has instructions on how to fix broken sd card and / or usb port. I'll have to look for it, but I know it's around here somewhere. You may want to search for that thread.
i will look for the thread..I reset my phone but not back to stock and still unable to read the sd card
i downloaded a bunch of tv shows threw them on my SD card while it was in the note. i get home and go to transfer them from the phone to the computer and after a few seconds i get an error "A device attached to the system is not functioning" what the hell, ive never had this issue on any phone. ok so i thought it might have been my 16gb SD card doing this but it seems every SD card i try keeps giving this error and locking me out of the SD card unless i disconnect and reconnect. anyone else having this problem or know how i can fix it?
If you have an SD Card reader try with that. If not a different USB Cable or possibly a different computer. Did you just get that particular SD Card which fails to connect?
getting an SD card reader defeats the point, i dont want to constanly rip the back off my phone to take the SD card out, my issue is every time i plug the phone in it is recognized and i can see the SD card or the internal storage. ill go and try transfering a file from either storage areas and it gives me a transfer error mid way through, it has done this on 3 different computers with 5 different usb cables, its something to do with the dumb MTP storage crap, anyone know a way i can fix this problem? help please

The suggestion was you try with a card reader to make sure it's not the card itself that may be bad. Several machines ans cables and still no luck may just say "the card is bad".

Or try AirDroid from the Google Play Market. Uses wifi.
Also, some sd cards have poor factory formatting.
For each of my sd cards, I always do a full, non-quick, format, before I use it.
thanks but no its not memory card, or cable related, its poor drivers by samsung, the internet is full of people complaining about this issue with allot of the newer samsung phones. i finally got it to work after spending a few hours installing and uninstalling drivers and countless reboots

Please tell me how you got it right? Ive been struggling with this thing for so long and its such a hangup powering off the phone to take out the sd card!
No issues here, and I've been using the same drivers as my GS2 did. Did you try USB Mass Storage mode?
From my experience my computer will see my card on and off when it was formatted to xfat but after reformatting it to fat32 as soon as i plug my phone in it will automatically detect my card without installing or changing drivers.

Having an issue with my T-Mobile S4. Starting yesterday after resetting my phone freezes up after I insert an SD Card into it. I leave the SD Card out and the phone runs fine, pop in an SD Card and it freezes up after about 5 minutes. I have reset the phone completely and I am still having the same issue. I have tried different SD Cards that I have and the issue still happens on each SD Card. I originally was using a 64 GB sd card and I transferred the files to each SD Card, so my question is, is it possible that a file on the SD Card is corrupted and causing this issue or is there something else going on? I have a lot of other things I could try to do to narrow it down I know but I figured I'd throw this up there to see if anyone has had this issue also.

Have you ever tried to remove the SDCARD and plug it into a card reader or into the computer and copy all files and folders
from the card to an empty folder on your computers desktop.
After that format the 64GB microsd using FAT32 in your Windows computer.
Then put it back into the phone as a blank empty sdcard.
Then check out the phone and see if it has any issues with the sdcard. Chances are excellent that doing that will fix the problem.
If it does you can copy all the files and folders from your computer back to the sdcard in the phone.
Good luck!
I have 2 64gb sandisk 10x microsd with Samsung S4 I9005 with Android 4.3. I formatted with android, also Windows 7 64bit with various types of sizes on laptop. However on laptop or on phone after writing some files and disk scanning, it gives many disk errors. Even after scancheck and correcting it.The errors repeat each time. I wonder if it is software or microsd hardware problems. There is no problem with 32 gb sandisk microsd.

This may be the wrong place to ask this, and if it is, I apologize.
I also apologize for this being so long, but I wanted to include as much info as possible in case someone has a solution I haven't tried yet.
I have a Sandisk 32gb micro SD in my S3 (AT&T, rooted, running StockMOD 4.4 RC 2). The card worked perfectly fine before all of this started.
I ordered a new (generic) 64gb micro SD card through Amazon about a month ago. When I tried to copy my data to it, I got a 0x80070570 error, which seemed to point to a card defect. I sent it back, and finally got a replacement.
I unmounted the old card and put the replacement card in my S3. The new card didn't register in the phone at all.
I popped it out (the phone didn't recognize it, so I couldn't unmount it), put it in a USB card reader, and plugged it into my desktop (Windows 7 Home, 64 bit). The card said that it was formatted to FAT32. Since windows doesn't give you the ability to format to FAT32, I tried exFAT. I figured at the worst, when I put it in the phone, the phone would not recognize the file structure and give me the option to format it.
Well, a quick format didn't work (Windows said it was unable to complete it.) I tried a full format and when it got to the end, Windows said it couldn't complete that either. I put it back in my phone and it was recognized with a "blank card or unrecognized file system" error. It gave me the option to format it, so I did. After a maybe 2 seconds, the phone said it was checking the card for errors, then gave the "blank card" message again. I tried several times, but the same thing happened. I rebooted into recovery (CMW 6.0.4.7) and it seemed to show the card. I tried to format it there, but got the message "could not format /storage/sdcard1". I tried to mount it and got a "error mounting /storage/sdcard1" error.
I put the card back in the reader and my computer doesn't see anything there anymore. No drive letter. Nothing showing up in disk manager. I can't see it through diskpart's list volume or chkdsk (all run with admin privileges.) If I take the card out of the reader, the reader shows up as drive H (in all places). But once I put the card in, the drive disappears from everywhere.
So I figure I got another bum card. I put the old micro SD card back in my phone and it didn't see it. There's no message - the phone just doesn't recognize anything there. I rebooted, but still nothing. I booted into recovery and CMW doesn't see the old card, even though it worked perfectly fine up until this point. I tried wiping the cache and dalvik, but that didn't change anything. I booted without a card, inserted it, and the phone doesn't see it. I booted with the card in the phone, and it doesn't see it. I booted without a card, shut it down, inserted the cart, and rebooted, and that didn't work. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a factory rest. I put the old card in the reader and my computer doesn't see anything (just like the new one.) I tried disk manager, diskpart, chkdsk, etc. and it doesn't show up.
I tried 2 different card readers (1 USB, 1 internal) and neither reads either card. I tried 2 different micro SD to SD adapters, and neither one helps. I've tried reading the cards on 2 different computers, but neither sees either card. I found an old 2 gb micro SD card, plugged it into the USB adapter and it shows up in both computers fine. I tried both adapters and both work fine with the 2 gb. I also put the 2 gb in my phone, and it worked fine. So I think it's pretty safe to rule out an issue with the computer, the phone, the adapter, and the reader. Which leaves me with a card problem.
All of the solutions I've found online require that the computer actually assign a drive letter and see the card, even if it can't read it. I don't have that, so none of those work for me.
I get that the new card was probably a bum card. But why would my old card crap out all of a sudden? I had just taken a backup of what was on there, so it worked in the reader 30 minutes before I swapped out cards. I've inspected the contacts and they look fine to me. No scratches or crap on there.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my 32 gb working again? Losing data isn't a problem, since I backed it up before I started this whole thing.
I've pretty much given up hope on the 64 gb at this point.
Really hard to say. But just a guess, maybe the card reader caused some sort of damage to the card. Would explain why both the new ones didn't work either.
Like I said though, it's purely a guess. But if windows doesn't recognize it no matter how you plug it in, I'm not sure there will be much you can do.
And just FYI, since this is a question, it should've been posted in Q&A.

Thanks, @DocHoliday77. I was afraid of that. Even though I don't see any damage it's possible something happened. I don't know.
I was just hoping that there was some kind of software that might be able to access the card without checking the file structure. Something that could format it without knowing, or caring, what was on it before.
And thanks for the heads up on where this should have been posted. Next time I'll ask my questions in Q&A.
Could be something internal that allowed too much power to the card maybe. No way of knowing that I'm aware of. There may be recovery software out there, but it may cost more than its worth or it may require special equipment. Been a long time since I've looked into that type stuff though.
