You can port ubuntu touch to any device that has cm10.1
I hear ubuntu leaves hard links that Android ROMs do not, and that some (if not all) recoveries are not able to wipe them. I don't know much, but that doesn't sound good.

Nice!
Although it doesn't help us right now since ROM Manager doesn't support the Glide, at least not yet.
(P.S. if that situation changes, someone PM me and remind me to edit this post)
ROM Manager doesn't support most of today's devices. Even the Captivate Gingerbread is not supported...
What is touch recovery? Is it a cwm that excepts touch input? Does it have a GUI interface?

Accepts touch. Also compatible with ics iirc
Not sure what you mean by gui

CM7 would make me flash my Glide off stock. You've got me excited!
I flashed last night but ran into issues. Phone booted into recovery just fine but had issues with creating backups or fixing permissons. After I started one of operations, it would stall on the step and not proceed. Anyone else having issues?

Hm. This may be because cwmr touch is still in beta and is not even out for the gsii...ill see if I can compile version 6 without touch and see if that's better...

Since I see no mention of it on our forum... I'll break the ice.
The port guide went up today on Ubuntu wiki. So, are there any devs working on it for the note 2?

+1 Ubuntu for our phones is a cm base plus the Ubuntu ui. Wish I had a box to try and port this.
Its on the Ubuntu site? I haven't been back there in a while since I formatted winblows an switched.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Then if it is really purely CM at heart it shouldn't be difficult to port
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
+1 on this, the ui looks very nice.......... i wish i knew how to port , i wanna learn this stuff.
I could give it a go, but I'm not sure how well it would go. best bet would be to just sit tight.

This was just posted in the MIUI thread earlier.

"I sent him a PM. Thanks I am glad to be here. The GN2 is an amazing phone with limitless possibilities. Today I ported ubuntu touch to the Gn2 I am going to clean it up before or if I release it. It was very easy to change it over to compile for our phones, ubuntu touch is fast sometimes and slow others. As far as I can tell those issues have nothing to do with anything I changed in porting so that would make it an upstream bug. Gonna have to wait for canonical to push out a new release.
Regards,
Atsuisofu"

Exactly. I made a build but I wont post it because it take far too long to go back and forth to a regular rom and there are far to many upstream bugs.
I was browsing the developer only section and saw slick_rick taking with other devs so we shouldn't be waiting to long for a build, if you're impatient there's a guide on how to build it but it's not for the faint of heart haha

Ehh probably wont release anything either. If anyone wants to use my source though, github.com/slickrick is where I have my Ubuntu Touch repos.
Seems like a vanity OS imho, I'd most definitely try a build once put out but will probably end up switching back to TW or AOSP within a week, lol

Well it seems like it turns your phone into a media device, so if you don't need signal, it should be fine since Wi-Fi and the font artifacts are gone? But I can see the issue of people not reading and complaining..
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
I'd like a ROM that turned into Ubuntu only when the note 2 was docked to a monitor. I'd probably stop using my laptop if I had that.

So I'm not sure but do we have any restrictions with aosp and drivers?, The reason why is I'd like to try and build Ubuntu touch for our LG OG.
Also I haven't tried anything like this and maybe would like some help from anyone willing to help.

Did ubuntu abandon this project? They said cdma support would follow soon but once it was released for gsm news about it died. Every once in awhile it would randomly appear but nothing exciting..

They're close to getting Data working for GSM devices, so CDMA will likely be soon after. Canonical says it should be a daily driver (IE: most peripherals working) by the end of the month.

It's a completely different experience. Different OS. It's like comparing ios and windows with android.
The main advantage to this though is that it is a bit easier for devs who have android app building experience to port their apps and even develop for.
It's one step closer to getting ubuntus name out there on the level of compition windows and mac have had for so long. The biggest step so far has been steam support for it's desktop version. Windows games are flooding in. Imagine this kind of support on a mobile device. Ubuntu has said that soon the same apps could be used cross platform desktop<-->mobile.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
Another advantage is that officially supported quad-core phones will have Ubuntu Desktop as an option when connecting to an external display.
Any chance we could get Ubuntu touch?

Right now its still in its early stages so i doubt we will see it for our phones anytime soon. Ive only seen it on one phone with official support from Ubuntu. That phone us the Nexus 4. However if you want to see how it looks head over to the Skyrocket thread and flash the one they have there. Ita just for UI tho so don't expect to play around with it. Also i dont know if the rotation fix will work but you will need it. Try it out but make a backup of your current ROM.

I doubt Ubuntu will be a daily driver on any device anytime soon. I tried the early release on my Nexus 7. Aside from being pretty, I was pretty meh. And without android play store integration, not gonna be very functional for a long while.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm no dev by any stretch of the word... but I do have a build environment set up and I've been toying with the idea of trying... perhaps I'll play with it until someone else beats me to it. Most time consuming part will be the downloading... 15-18GB @ 270KB/s, plus the required CM repos...

Finally worked out enough bugs to get a successful compile, but I'm not very optimistic about it. I'll play with it in the morning.. got a few more things I need to download and a little more research before I go flashing it.
EDIT: As I suspected, can't get it to boot.
