Replaced the usb board (flex cable?) and the speaker plastic piece. When plugged into power, battery icon comes on and shows it's charging. Tried to boot the phone, it won't boot up. Tried to get into download load (power + vol down), nothing.
This is a friend's phone I am helping with. The phone had just come back from Samsung warranty which told my friend that they won't be able to repair the usb port because the water sensor had tripped. So, he bought a usb flex cable with usb port and the speaker plastic piece. I just got done helping him with replacing the usb as well as the speaker piece.
Any suggestions?
I can't believe no one else has experienced the same problem.
Anyhow, I had a usb jig and was able to power it on to download mode. Tried Odin to flash factory stock. No go, it stops at connection. Finally got pit file to load, and then stock image through pda in odin.
Now, the phone won't respond to the power button. Pressing power button doesn't do anything, no matter how long you press it. It's as if the phone doesn't recognize that you are pressing the power button. After pulling battery, the only way to power it on is to put in the usb jig and then press the power button. So, it tells me that the phone recognizes power button was pushed only with the usb jig. At all other times, the galaxy nexus doesn't recognize when the power button is pushed.
We are considering the purchase of power button flexible cable. Would it repair the problem of the phone not recognizing the power button push?
I'm not familiar with the usb jigs, but how did it go from no connection to connection? Also, if the power button worked when attached to the jig, then why would those same wires that didn't work before work now? Doesn't sound to me like that power button cable.. What are the chances that this phone had more serious water damage? Did ya'll use the bag of rice trick, or just let it dry normally?
My girlfriend handed me her phone. The power button does nothing. Phone is off and charged. When I plug it into a computer or wall charger I get the charging sign. Any way to get the phone up and running through computer? I was thinking if the power button is dead, then if I can get the phone turned on with the computer I can push a swipe to wake type program bypassing the power button and making the phone usable.
Have you tried just holding the power button and wiggling it around a bit? Or even a bit of duster around it? It sucks when the only one of three hardware buttons stops working. I had an older phone that i'd have to hold the button at various angles, pressure points to get it to turn on. If you do get it on, try smartscreen on lite.

try vol up+power till you got 3 vibrations then turn on again, or try power button while you plug charge...
more information...?
I had this problem too. Powering off device with small button near to SIM card worked for me. You will need sth small, that would fit into tiny hole, some kind of neddle, wire.

What does that button do...
I think that used to reset the phone
Hello, I have the same problem. My phone has stopped charging. No charge even in the off state. When you connect the USB cable being off or on the computer has failed USB devices. I've already trying with other cables and other chargers. I do not think it's a problem because the connector is in good condition.
Able to boot into recovery mode by holding volume down button and plugging in, but the power button does not work, ever. Ordered a new button and installed it, but same issue. Any suggestions?
Could the connector be damaged? Also what bootloader version?

Which button? The plastic one on the back cover or the cable ribbon inside? If the latter, some of the Chinese knockoffs won't work unless you physically push the button on the ribbon itself. If you have the back cover on, the black plastic button won't reach the metallic part on the ribbon. Consequently...
My wife's Nexus 5X became a teething toy for our 9 month old and shortly thereafter stopped charging. I tried connecting to power sources and USB with no luck - when connected to my Win 10 desktop it said Power surge on the USB port – Unknown USB Device needs more power than the port can supply.
I managed to get most of the full res photos off the device by uploading via FTP to my NAS. Wondering what I might be able to do to get the rest of them off. I tore down the phone, tried disconnecting the battery and seeing if it would run off the power (if the battery was corrupted or something) but no luck.
A long while ago, while attempting recovery to USB stick for a different phone, I worked with a DC power generator - soldered wires to the terminals on the battery, adjusted the voltage, and was able to power the phone indefinitely while connecting a USB stick to the USB port. I'm thinking about giving something similar a try here - not sure if anyone would be able to tell me anything that might cause difficulties here. I believe the power terminals are marked on the battery, as is the voltage at 3.8v DC, so I would think it should be pretty straightforward.
I guess if someone has a spare Nexus 5X and is feeling brave, if you could open it up, disconnect the battery, plug a power cable in, hit the power button, and let me know if it boots, that would be a start. If the device will work with no battery, just power via AC, then mine's pretty well fried and the DC power option might be my only route. If the device won't power on without a battery, maybe it was just the battery that went bad, and I could try a replacement for $10-15 to see if that resolves.
edit: additional info. If I plug the phone into an AC port, the area where the connector plugs into gets super hot and there's a red light in the microphone grill that starts blinking. Not sure if something got shorted by the charging port (where baby got her drool) or if the battery kicked it and is causing some issue with the charging circuit.
Thanks!
Well, found the LG charger and gave that a try. Looks like it might actually be charging now. The charging port is nowhere near as hot when using the original charger, so...going to let it sit for a bit and fingers crossed I'll have a working phone in a few hours to try to copy off the stuff i couldn't get before the battery died.
Hello guys,
I have replaced my battery today, but it seems as I was struggling to remove the glue I have ripped the side buttons ribbon cable a little, therefore the power button is not working and I can't power on the device.
When I plug it in a computer, I can see it charging. In device manager it is showing up as DVD Device - HTC Android Phone USB Device and as a USB Mass Storage Device. I have tried fastboot and adb and they are not responding.
I only want to power on the device, so I can use it, because for a new cable to arrive it will take like two months.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
EDIT: This is the part where it got ripped.
As I was looking for a cable from ebay, I noticed something. The cable there on the bending has only one track!
The first thing I immediately tried was touching the two parts of the cable to try to reconnect it, so I can at least power the phone on, but it didn't work.
What I was also thinking is to put some kind of conductor between the rippage, but I thought there were more than one path on the circuit and that I can put electricity where I don't want it.
Now, looking at this one circuit path do you think putting a solder wire in between could transfer the power up signal? Or is it not a good idea? Is it possible that there are more connections inside beside that track?
P.S: I am not a very good electrician, I have soldered some pins, but I really have no deep knowledge in that area.
EDIT: I have fixed this by buying a new module from ebay and replacing it.
when i plug my phone to charger only the orange led is blinking it wont turn on.
nothing happen even if i try combination vol+ + vol- + power buttons.
i changed the battery and nothing. can someone help me? (sorry for bad english)
i think it is by this small cable on the side it is flat in 2 places.
