Has anyone messed with their DPI settings on Cm10.1 or one of the other AOSP ROMs?
What have you tried and what were the results?
I already know the stock OS isn't very DPI friendly, but haven't messed with 10.1 yet.
If I don't get any responses I'll try a few myself and post in this thread.

That was some tumble weed. I don't feel the need to change my DPI, but might have a quick play.
EDIT: Tried 140 on Hash codes 4.2.2. Everything was slightly smaller, but I had issues with Flip board not showing articles. I'm sure you are on Power points ROM, so you should be OK.
Warning: I'm not sure if changing the DPI on the standard Kindle ROM killed it, so only try that if you are prepared to recover everything.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't try it on stock. Thanks for the warning though.
And as you astutely noticed, I AM running PowerPoint's ROM on my kf2.

I've now tried quite a few different dpi settings with no major issues.
Have tried 160 (standard setting)
Tried 240- gigantic
Tried a few others but eventually went back to 160 since it seems to be the "sweet spot".

I'm going to guess stock dpi. I strongly doubt the launcher will cooperate.
But since i have sgt7 and/or cm10.1, i won't be going back to stock...

HEy,
So, I searched and read and I really like the tablet mode tweak.
I tried the paranoid rom and the rom itself is great, but for me its pretty slow and just doenst work pretty well. Needs some more dev imo, but its on a great way.
However I'm back to aokp m5 with trinity kernel wich just runs awesome.
And I'm asking myself if I could just go with the tablet mode hack and aokp m5?
Will this work out? Or will I experience a lot of issues with that?
Or is it maybe even possible to just get that statusbar? I like the menus but I would be pleased if I could just get that statusbar.
Sorry if this questions may sound stupid ;/
Im glad for any help.
Regards
All you have to do is change your dpi to 192 and fine a modded phone apk. In run every aokp on table mode with absolutely no issues. I just can't use my phone in "phone" mode after using tablet mode.

Well, what about the gapps ? YouTube and browser would not be the same as tablet version ( need to flash modded gapps also ?)

Gapps get modified to tablet mode. Another thing u will need is Nova launcher and the modded market that shows ur dpi as the stock one. That way all the apps are available to you.

I am currently using twa_priv's SGT7 jelly bean Rom, which has been phenomenal so far. On my galaxy nexus it is possible to adjust the display color and gamma settings. Is this possible on the kindle fire?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I've done a good bit of looking but I still haven't been able to find anything that will work on the Kindle. All of the apps that are able to so appear to be device specific. Does anyone know if it might be possible, even if the parameters must be set manually?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Just bumping to see if anyone knows...
One last bump. I won't bump this any more as I am quite sure it is against the rules. If anyone out there knows of some way to enable color control on the Kindle Fire I'm sure many people would appreciate it as much as I would!

I believe there is a render effect setting (well it's on CM7 so probably it's on CM10) which can render everything viewable in horribly washed out color schemes. It seems like more of a novelty option than anything else.

OK, so this is going to be my thread for unofficial CM10 builds...
@makelegs also has JellyBro nightly builds, but the main difference is I don't include any cherry-picks... only the official CM10 commits... If you'd like bleeding edge, do try those builds!!!
I've built this ROM with @ktoonsez kernel as my base... so you have OC/UC (100Mhz to 2100Mhz), with adjustable voltages and many CPU governors...
Do note, though, that CyanogenMod 10 is still a work in progress and may have bugs and issues...
Features:
1. CyanogenMod 10 - Android 4.2.1 [as of 01/12/2012 8:30AM Pacific Time]
CM10 features include: ThemeChooser themes, configurable notification lights, circle battery, the classic notifications power widget (turned off by default), volume-rocker wake & music controls, profiles, quiet hours, performance settings and many more2. USB OTG support just like my AOSP+ 4.2.1 ROM
3. Kernel 3.4.20 with OC with 2100Mhz and UC to 100Mhz, with adjustable voltages & a lot of governors [use OC and voltage changes with caution]
4. UNC patched busybox (this is not yet part of CM10)
New in 01 Dec 2012 Build:
1. Updated device overlays for CM10.
2. Enabled expanded desktop and torch
3. Added more screen timeouts
4. Patched power HAL which does not revert OC after screen-off [credit ktoonez & myself]
6. Updated CM10 source as of 01/12/2012 8:30AM Pacific Time
Known issues:
Performance settings menu cannot adjust CPU speeds. Use apps like SetCPU.
Disclaimer:
I can make no guarantees that your experience with this ROM will be flawless. If you decide to flash this ROM, remember that you are doing so at your own discretion. I cannot and will not be held responsible if your jelly beans become rotten and your tablet decides implode. I will try to help you to the best of my ability, but beyond that, you stand alone behind enemy lines!! Have fun!!
Instructions:
1. Full wipe/factory reset is a must if you are flashing this over any other ROM
2. Wipe cache/dalvik cache between builds
3. Flash using CWM or TWRP

Keep up the good work

Most of my games won't start for some reason (Fieldrunners, Myth Defense, Angry Birds, My Little Pony [don't judge me!]), but otherwise seems smooth. I could probably do a logcat to see what's happening, but this being the first build I would expect things like this. Great work!

Thanks again,

Jessica, was over in the the N7 forum checking out these two roms & it looks like the GS Bean dev is using Smooth rom as a base, so are they basically the same with the exception of the GS Bean having Touchwiz?
Also, I see you are using twa_priv's KF build as a base which has tablet UI & since both Smooth & GS Bean also have a tablet UI option, how does it work with these roms? In other words, which one kicks in?
Thanks,
Mike T
Checking this out tomorrow first thing. Thanks

GS Bean actually doesn't use Touch Wiz unless you install the theme and use the launcher. In the 3rd post, I list all of the features GS Bean comes with. It has a lot more features than just Touch Wiz. As for tablet ui, I'm not sure. I've never used the tablet ui in twa_priv's build. All I know is that in aroma, when you select tablet ui, it installs some framework files and Nova Launcher.
Those who criticize our generation forget who raised it.

Ok thanks. I did see the framework files when I extracted the zip, guess I'll have to play around with it and see how the tablet ui goes. As for TW, it looks pretty cool, think I'll install the theme & check it out.
Thanks,

Just installed this ROM last night, so far so good. Thank you
Installed the G Sbean rom this morning and I like it. I did run into a couple of small issues, one being a force close of the stock browser. I chose it in Aroma but it appears that it failed to install. I grabbed the browser.apk, pushed it to /system/app manually and it now works.
The other issue was with settings/storage. Every time I opened storage, I got the error "package access helper has stopped", clearing cache/dalvik and multiple reboots didn't fix it for me. It turns out that "DefaultContainerService.apk" is responsible for that function, so I extracted it from Hashcode's CM10.1 rom and replaced the existing apk. That took care of the error.
I did install the Touchwiz theme & it's pretty cool, looks really slick. Followed your instructions re: changing the dpi to install and it worked great. Also, there's a lot of good stuff included in the rom, I especially like the ACID & Pimp My Rom/Seeder mods.
Thanks again for porting this, it's a real nice addition to the existing KF roms. One last thing I noticed is the kernel is 3.0.57, does this kernel contain Hashcode's reverted USB commit from 1/15? That made a huge improvement in the tablet sleeping.

I uploaded this built a few days ago. I didn't notice the problems until after it was uploaded. I have a newer build with those issues solved, and it's updated with twa_priv's newest build. I'll try to upload it tonight. As for the stock browser, I never use it so I didn't know it didn't work. I'll fix that and upload asap.

Flashed SmoothROM last night and absolutely love it! It's running silky smooth and have yet to run into any kind of problems. I'm going to test it for a few more hours today, but must say that I'm loving it so far.
Is there any way to implement volume butons next to the navigation buttons ?

I haven't tested this rom yet but on other 4.2.1 roms you have to go to setting/about and tap the build number 7 times to get the developer options to pop up and then you will get to set usb debugging
Stupid question... Is it possible to install TableUI after the rom is installed? Do I just go back into TWRP/Aroma, reinstall without wiping, but choose TableUI?
Love it so far!
Thanks.

I did, their first response was to uninstall and reinstall it. After that didn't work they said to "check my status bar auto-hide settings." Still didn't help. Now i'm going back and forth with them trying to get a refund.
I would try another Rom before refunding because it is a great game.
