SamsungApps on AOSP - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone been able to install on 4.2.X?

I doubt it since I haven't seen a single Aosp based Rom with Samsung features. However the other way around has been done. So you should be able to find Sammy roms with aosp features.
Sent from the rabbit hole.

There havent been asop rom with Samsung features? ??

All Samsung apps are closed source, so blame them.

TouchWiz features

Are any of the TW features extractable, for when we get Jelly Bean? I.e., smart stay?
bump I'd also like to know

When jelly bean is released as an update for our phone....samsung won't deduct features! Otherwise they'll be being sued here their and everywhere

Yes but Sammy won't have JB for a while. CM10 will be out soon or at the very least a custom rom.

CM10 will take away features like smart stay, burst shot etc because it's AOSP, the same as jelly bean will be AOSP

The Samsung features included in a touchwiz rom are proprietory which means they're not open source.
Added to which they have specific framework dependancies (and Kernel) which are not compatible with AOSP so for the vast majority of samsung features and apps that you want, you can't have.

What I'm curious to know is what Samsung is gonna do with S voice in jellybean, seeing as Google Now seems better.

Stock Android ROM?

Any ROM for this device I find still has Samsungs Touch interface overlay on it, such as Jelly Bomb. Is there a Cyanogenmod like ROM out there for our cdma phone? When will Cyanogenmod begin to support the cdma version of the note?

Wrong section bud... And there aren't any aosp roms yet... Just be patient I'm sure some will emerge with time as the device is still relatively new

Nothing at all like that. The exact opposite of that as a matter of fact.

I'd guess that any pure AOSP based ROM would need to somehow support the Samsung S-pen capabilities and be made to co-exist with the Samsung system S-pen capabilities software "blob", or do away with the S-pen capabilities altogether?
AOSP is open source ... enhancements to it may or may not be. If it helps Samsung in their patent fight with Apple to prove how they've added their own differentiated technology to smart phones, should they make it open source and let Apple have it as well?

There are loads of ROMs to choose from Taylorcox75.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ROMs.
(They all lead back to here at XDA and you will need to read the forum threads carefully. Hopefully the thread screenshots might give you an idea of what you're looking for.)
Should I come back and find this post still in the dev section tomorrow, this space will be filled with Russian Nyan Cat.
You have been warned.

[Q] Possible for ATT S4 Firmware to S3?

Hey i was just wondering if the new 4.2.2 touchwiz will be ported to the s3 from the s4? Because i know im not the only one hoping for the new touchwiz to come to the s3.
I would think it's the same as porting the s3 international firmware to the us variant. Different hardware, different set up. It'll probably brick your phone.

Oh wow really? So its not the same as like Sense on the HTCs when they were really only htcs getting newer sense roms?
Its not just the launcher its boot loaders, framework, kernels, and its all built for an 8 core exynos processer and we have a dual core Qualcomm
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
It'll never happen unless Samsung releases Touchwiz source code to work with. If they would to release it I would be very possible for that to happen, even have TW on non Samsung devices..
HTC Sense is just a skin to be honest (with the exception of the new Blink feed on HTC ONE) with a couple of fancy widgets that rely on that skin.
Sense was partially ported to a couple devices back in the day due to the fact that it is almost just a skin. (Any one can feel free to correct me on this one )
Galaxy S4's Touchwiz, not only is it a skin but the gestures and fancy thing the S4 has rely heavily on TW framework.
With out that TW source to be released we're out of luck

I sure hope att/sammy didn't build all that for the exynos octa. Would brick there qualcom quad cpu phones.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Only a small portion of the S4s are gonna be running the exynos processor. Many will have the next iteration of Qualcomm's snapdragon. It will still be nearly if not entirely impossible to get the S4's firmware running on the S3. We already have 4.2.2 on the S3 though. Just gotta get on a custom ROM.

He asked if it will be ported... so it would not brick your phone if you tried, it just simply wouldnt work. Unless you try to flash unmodified s4 software on your s3

Hopefully someone can pull it off

Might be stupid question but if we don't have source code for Touchwiz, how do we have TouchWiz custom roms..?

Custom TW Rom are built using the original TW firmware, with features added to them.
IF we had TW source code, we'd have the features and apps like TW camera on AOSP based roms....

S4 Features on S3

Hey guys,
I've read that many of the software features from the S4 are to be ported to the S3 by Samsung as part of an update.
Does anyone have information on when that might happen and if it might be included in custom ROMs?
I'm most interested in AOKP. Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
It's still up in the air as far as I know. Individual S4 features have already been ported though.
If your more interested in AOKP then your more interested in AOSP and if that's the case then these TW features being "ported" shouldn't concern you really..

Well we just got an update so dont ecpect anything for a while ,be satisfied with what you have .

Check the first post of the thread in my sig. It has a list of the current ported S4 features. There are two different section, one for touchwiz and one for aosp roms. Keep in my most are only for touchwiz roms since they require the Touchwiz framework. Also, read the linked post at the beginning for what is fully functioning or not. Yes, the thread is updated frequently so it is accurate.
Edit: just realized that you are on tapatalk so probably cant view my sig, here is the link.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2206668

You try the Gummy rom in the original development thread? There is no pure aosp rom at this time that I know of.
