Is there a work around to stay logged in? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, does anyone know of any work around on how I can keep logged in into the web login portal to access the internet through WiFi. I have to keep logging into the portal every time I stop using the internet for a few minutes, which gets annoying since I use whatsapp and Skype and I can only receive once I log in. I appreciate any input.

A little help

Hi guys, and great forum.
At the outset mods should feel free to push this is the appropriate forum.
I seem to have fallen in love with the xda orbit/P3300. I run 2 websites and am more and more often away from home these days that my trusty nokia N73 just aint cutting it for web access.
So I have looked about at something more mobile web access tailored and bumped into this. My questions to help me:
I'm currently with Vodafone, not due an upgrade til November. I could buy the phone sim free, unlocked. Having searched the forum I see that it should work when the Voda settings (wap, mms) are entered. Is this correct?
I hear that some folk have been caught out with hefty data charges because the phone always uses gprs constantly. Again, is this right?
This probably isn't suitable for this forum, but if data charges could be an issue, would it be better to go with someone like T-mobile that give unlimited access?
Finally, having read the manual, i'm a little confused with the messaging email set up. Are texts sent immediately when you tap send? Are mms saved until you next go "online" with wap? When i want to pick up emails, can i do as i do now, connect remotely via wap to my BT server and pick up on demand, or will it always automatically do that on connecting to wap.
My apologies for the questions, and hope one of you good folk can help me out.
Thanking you in advance
Mike
Hi MikI,
It doesn't matter what device you use, as long you have access to the wap and mms gatewats, so with you vodaphone sim you should be able to.
Some software once installed (weather apps, etc) can be configured to automatically download new updates and thus incur charges without you knowing it. The phone itself has nothing to do with that.
It's really up to you with what data plan suits you, if you constantly use gprs, then you should know that getting a flatrate plan is the best thing to do, again it depends on your usage.
Yes SMS messages are immediately sent when you tap send. For MMS you can configure it to either connect automatically and send your message immediately once you tap send or to wait once you go online and then send it.
Hope that helps, just my 2 cents.
Cheers.
If your main motivation is mobile web, I would look into getting a UMTS phone..GPRS might not do the trick for your needs.
Hello gang, and thanks for your replies - they are really helpful.
Web access is one of my motivations, but the main ones I have is being able to pick up my emails from the ISP (and going on web if they emails say I have to), and the organiser functions.
Web access is really restricted to things like google searches for numbers etc, if i had to do some serious web browsing it would only be to my sites and I would hope few and far in between.
Now the choice between sim free, or a new contract
Thanks all again, and if anyone can suggest anything i may not be considering or missing about this handset I'd be most grateful.

[Q][SOLVED] Is Facebook down on Andorid/Desire?

Anyone else having problems? Haven't been able to connect for a couple of days now. No posts, notifications, updates etc.
Funny enough when I try to go via web it says ""access restricted bad (IP)" - associated with abusive behaviour. What's this? Any ideas?
Edit:
It appears what has happened is that due to Orange using Proxies to log into facebook the IP addy has been blacklisted. What I am guessing is that as this coincides with the Launch of Facebook places Facebook thinks that the IP is spamming it with multiple places simultaneously and as such blacklisted the IP.

So youve have restricted access for being abusive? Theres your answer. Can you log in on a computer?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Thanks for help.
Not aware I've been abusive! It's the Android/Sense apps that won't connect, and it was via the web on the phone that I got this message. Can't try the web from work as its a blocked site.
Have queried with Facebook and they say they'll get back to me.
I can't get it to work today either, it was last synchronized last night. Today neither friends stream or the Facebook app will connect
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If you google this there are loads of people on the Orange UK network with the same problem (me included)
Not sure if/when it'll get fixed.
Forgot to say I am on Orange too. Aha...so that's where the problem lies. They're not having a good time what with the data outage a couple of weeks ago etc etc.

I can't seem to get any content from the touch Facebook page, it let's me sign in but that's all I see. No problem with the mobile page of the Facebook app. Im also able to load the touch page on my laptop and can access everything, so it seems there is something wrong when viewing the touch site on the desire. I'm on tmobile by the way.

[Q] Captive portal auto-login

Running a rooted Dinc2...
When I get to school, each time you connect to wifi you have to log in with your school credentials to access anything on the web (Web browsing, email, weather, news, anything).
My question is: is it possible to make a script/something that I can set my login info into so that when i am within range of a certain SSID it will auto-login with the captive portal to allow me access?
It is a real pain in the butt to have to log into this every time. And some certain web browsers do not allow me to even login with the captive portal (Opera Mini). Any insight on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I would prefer some sort of scripting method as opposed to something like "Tasker", much prefer avoiding a program and going with a file. However, if this is not an option I'll take what I can get.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Joe

Some python scripts here - (dang I can't post links, but google zeroshell autlogin)
I'm trying to accomplish this as well. There's an app called Android Hotspot Login App but that only has built-in settings for German hotspots, and I haven't been able to set it up for mine...

[Q] Google Talk Not updating?

When I had the Razr before the Nexus, the Google Talk kept constantly updated in real time. With the Nexus, conversations would stop updating as soon as I exit the Google Talk screen, and they would only update again when someone responds to me, not even when I message them.
I've looked under google talk settings, no dice
I've looked under the nexus settings, can't find anything
Can someone help me out here?
I'm also new to phones, but I use Gtalk more than any other app, was wondering if we can make a widget for it?
I did in fact find a homebrew widget for Google Talk, but it didn't refresh in real time either and I didn't find it very useful otherwise.
Nowadays I just keep my screen on and open on Google Talk, but that sucks up batteries and I'd just rather learn how to get Google Talk to stay connected

Google Talk is my main means of communication it seems so I have played with it a lot. Here are my observations.
1. To keep it "up" all the time in the Talk App hit the menu button (three dots now) >settings>uncheck automatic away status. Also make sure your phone has automatic syncing turned on for your gmail account: Setting>Accounts and Sync>ON (for your chat gmail address anyway). Additionally make sure your mobile data is turned on if you are ever off wifi: Settings>More>Mobile networks>Data Enabled (checked to turn on)
2. You can have up to 6 devices linked to your talk account at once, after that they just stop working.
3. When you receive a IM it appears on both your phone and your gmail account. If you start typing on the gmail account (or G+) it hijacks the whole session and you phone no longer gets the notifications, but the conversation still shows up on the chat window on the phone. When you are done with the IM session make sure you close the window on gmail (or G+) and send one last message from your phone or tablet to take the session back over, if you don't your phone will not receive future chat notifications. You can also just log out of your gmail/G+ session and it will automatically return everything to your phone/tablet but who ever does that?
4. To figure out how it all worked and tinker with it I use both of my gmail accounts and chat back and forth with them. You can do it from separate browsers or just open an incognito window in Chrome and log into your other gmail account. I would recommend this so you can see all of this stuff in practice.
Good Luck, hope this helps.

First of all, thank you for the detailed response, it's the most I've received so far and I thank you for your effort. On that note, I've played with all 3 of these settings before and they've been right for a few weeks now.

I have my computer and this phone linked to the talk account, that's it.
And here's where it differs from your experiences I think, with my RAZR, the phone DID in fact keep up to date with whatever conversation happened on my computer. Weird thing with the Nexus is, it just ... completely stops working, and doesn't update when I have a conversation online, that's the weirdest part, because when I use the Phone gchat again, a flood of updates stream in, and that takes a lot of time... and it doesn't even get it all.
Funny story, I had a fight with my gf and she tried to use a piece of gchat conversation on my phone as defense... and she couldn't find it

I'm doing almost the exact same setup with my SGSII. I go back and forth between Talk on the phone, the Talk app on my PC, and super rarely on the Xoom.
For me, when I'm using the phone, the PC app does NOT get updated. It only stores what I do with it. The phone app however gets EVERYTHING. If I'm talking on the PC, when I pick the phone up and check the conversation, its perfectly up to date.
I'm posting here, because I've got the GN ordered, and of course will be using Talk on it alot.
On another note, have you tried an aftermarket app for IM's? Maybe it will work better? After looking around, and reading some reviews I grabbed IMO chat off the market, but I haven't tried it yet....
