I recently bought a new car and promptly linked the phone via BT. Unfortunately the Audi MMI can only sort by surname and with the narrow width in the in-dashboard display my recently called list can often look like this...
McConach...
McConach...
McConach...
which is less than helpful
So the question is, is there a way to have a secondary list, linked to my main list, in someway that can file the names as "Darren McConachie" (ie all one name rather than split into first and surname) and pass that to BT devices?
If you go in to contacts on the phone (the contacts app) not dialer. The click he menu button (three dot on top of eachoher) then settings you have some options there which may help.
Be sure to report back and let us know either way.
PS Get a BMW next time LOL
Yeah been through those settings, everything on my phone is sorted by first name! Looks like something I'll just have to get used to!
I have the same issue. In my old phone i was able to do a bluetooth setup to change the way these contacts where transferred. Even though i think this is an Audi problem, it could be worked around if the GN would deliver the contacts in a different format. This would be a matter of changing things inside the bluetooth stack i guess.
:-(
Martin with the new GN
Edit: Maybe i just crossover first names and last names in my exchange account, where this is coming from. I am only accessing it from the PC otherwise and there is an option to change the sorting so maybe i give that a try - pretty dirty workaround though
The Nexus is a strange beast at times... wondering if you guys have this issue and if you corrected it or not.
My issue has to do with MP3 Tags on the nexus. No matter what I do, the tag never changes. For example:
1. If I have the artist name as "The WANTED", and want to change it to "The Wanted", it will never do so. Whatever tagger program I use, it will not change the case.
2. Stranger is that every program across the nexus, whether it be the Music Player itself or an ID tagger it will show up as "The WANTED" in the lists, however the ID tagger will show correctly when I go in and edit... as soon as I back out, it shows incorrectly again.
3. Stranger still is that if I have my phone plugged in to my Windows 7 Computer, and have the nexus opened on a window on the right side and a windows folder on the left side, the exact same file will show its tags properly in the windows folder, but if I move it to the right side (Nexus Music Folder) it will have it wrong again!
4. I've even recoded a new file, but as soon as the same characters in the tag are the same, regardless of case it will show up the way its previously seen it.
I've tried clearing data/cache on the program, removing thumbnails folders everything... the problem persists.
Any idea how to fix this?
Have you tried re-naming the tracks in Windows with a proper ID3 Tag editor? I know that sometimes tracks just don't want to change, but from my experience, I see that there is some garbage data in a field that looks blank, so clearing that out regardless of what is in there usually works for me.
I tried that. Nothing works.

There has to be some sort of tag database that is locally stored on Android for faster access. I have yet to find out where it's stored
This simply doesn't make sense otherwise.

Has anyone seen a Google now package card for shipped packages? I've gotten at least six emails from different sites in the past week or two and I haven't seen a single card informing me that a package has shipped. I've seen one on my girlfriends GS3 out of here four orders that have shipped. I'm wondering if the business needs to have some sort of presence known with google or something. I opened an issue for it if anyone wants to comment or star the issue.
Google now cards do not show for shipment/shipping/tracking information
Maybe it would be best to just list the business(es) that you have or haven't received an email from.

That is actually the only one I've seen and that was on my gf's GS3, other than that we've seen none.
They're coming to your Gmail, right? I know you probably know that they can only scan GMail, but it doesn't hurt to check.
EDIT: Read your posting on Google, looks like you've got it covered.
Got one for my Etsy order and one for my Amazon. Working fine here.
I'm having the exact same problem. I've had a good half dozen ship notices hit my Gmail in a little over a week, including an Amazon shipment today. Not a single package card. In fact, I haven't gotten any Gmail related cards at all.
Well looks like it doesn't actually matter from which companies the emails are from then since some users have reported cards and no cards with Amazon shipments.
Do you guys have gmail setup to automatically sync or do you manually sync it? I manually sync to save battery life. I'd think it wouldn't be based on our phones though and would be based off of mail.google.com

Same here. Several packages in the past few days and no Google Now cards.

Yall do have that card turned on in settings right?
Works for me, I just wish it had real time tracking info such as a delivery date & "delivered" confirmations. I received something yesterday it is still showing the card for. It wouldn't be hard for them to fix it so it works right, I mean this is a good start, but it's practically useless considering I have the same info in gmail. The idea of Gnow is to present info we need without searching, the way the package cards are set up now does not meat that criteria, it just copy/pastes whats in your gmail. I still have to search the tracking manually.
Not working here either on any of my devices - GS3 with CM10, Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus.
Not sure what could be the issue. I did star your issue though
Yes, it's turned on. I have pretty much all cards turned on, and only see most just occasionally, other than the directions/navigation card for places I've searched. To date I've NEVER gotten a single Gmail related card to come up. And my Gmail is auto-sync.
For reference, stock, unlocked, rooted 4.1.1 (toro).
Google Search 2.1.12.516912
Gmail 4.1.2
Strange. My auto-sync is also on (usually), I do sometimes toggle it off when I'm going out and want to conserve battery life. I am on CM10 but that shouldn't matter. Only other thing I can think of is my amazon purchase emails come in as "important", not "stared" but "important". Not sure why that would matter but who knows..
Same issue as OP, wondering if there is a fix. Since the last update the only "new" feature I have seen in Google now was a new story I guess I was interested in about the Nexus 4. Once it disappeared it has been a little like a grave yard in there......
My theory is that some people might be using a modified gmail apk, for example the inverted one, etc, That might make them not get that card. I use the inverted apk n I never got a package card.
THIS. IS. NEXUS.

"Theory" is the key word. I have the stock app and have yet to see a package card from any place I have ordered since the updated Google Now was released. From the sounds of things, we're all in the same boat.

same problem MIUI wasabi rom
I have the same problem, I have seen one package card and received over 12 shipment confirmations over the past weekend. The 1 card I saw was last Monday.
Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) - stock
One caveat that I discovered. For the 1 card I received if I go into gmail on Chrome it shows the "package info - tracking number" side bar (right side). For all other confirmation emails with tracking numbers that side bar is not showing up. This side bar is essentially the information in the Google Now package card.
I am thinking these problems are directly related. So if I can figure out why the package info side bar isn't showing up then I can fix the Google Now problem as well. All confirmations came through Amazon including the first that works correctly and displayed a Google Now package card.
All of mine have shown tracking in the right hand pane in web-based Gmail and I have never seen package card. As an update, I have now tried on my just received Nexus 10 (4.2), and still no package cards. Same with my wife's Nexus 7 (4.1 and 4.2).
I have a generic UPX model waterproof fitness band, that probably goes by many brand names, and uses a fitness app called Glory Fit to sync, and show SMS messages, on the device... however, I have a question for those who may use those fitness trackers, or know a bit about hacking the Bluetooth. I would like it to show more information, such as music media information, except that the app 3rd party notifications feature only shows the app name not media information... so for instance, if i add Google play music or Samsung Music to the to the band's notification list, when a notification for it pops up and I click on it I get this... "Google play music:" or "Samsung music:" what I want to figure out is if anyone knows a way to take a non-rooted device and get the information to display properly, or at the very least, share the information as a text message with WhatsApp or the android SMS txting app, which are approved/included SMS provider in the app... any ideas would be welcome... and for your information, I didn't buy it, but got it from a relative, after it started chafing his wrist, so, while I wouldn't buy one that cheap, usually, I'm curious as to if and how we can hack it with extra phone apps to do more stuff... (such as displaying media information on the start of a new song or album)
**please note**
I do not have a background in coding, and am mainly a script kiddie, in everything except MS-DOS and Windows command line, as well as a few minor windows based ADB commands, so i cant build an app...
So...
#1 is what I am asking here possible, specifically on a non-rooted device???
#2 is an app for this available, and what would the probability of such an app working be???
#3 if #2is no, but it is possible, could someone make a small app to do the job???
The target android is anything 5.0 and up, my current Galaxy S6 being android 6.0, and the band does use BLE, and charges using a usb 2pin jaw clamp device, if that helps...
Also, the reason to have it be non-rooted compatible, is that my device is on straight talk and cannot be rooted...
If you need more information just ask, although I'm not on here or my email everyday and have email notifications off so may not respond right away...
I hope someone thinks this is worth looking into, because I can't find information anywhere, except for the mifit, or whatever it's called...
**edit** before you ask, I sent an email to the Glory Fit developer, and left a Google play rating, before jumping straight here... if i get a response from either, I will post a reply, or edit the OP...
**update**
Ok... just did some checking online, and either im typing the wrong thing in when I search for 'media information to sms converter', or there isn't anything out there that will take the author, album, and song name, into sms format and locally inject it to the local sms app, either offline or online... i prefer offline myself, as then it's not dependent upon having service...
My phone was infected with stalkerware, they had access to my files, could view what was on my screen, listen into my mic, view my cameras remotely, everything! It's incredibly creepy! From what I can tell they somehow loaded q hacked version of Google Chrome and or android web viewer. After getting suspicious I downloaded Kaspersky and ran a scan, I found 2 versions of Google Chrome on my phone one of them had the dual messenger app icon on it. The other one said it wasn't a current version from the apps store. I Uninstallerd and downloaded the current version through the app store. I tried to see if a packet sniffer would lead me to them but I think I was too late by that point. I also pulled the Chrome app qnd decompiler it. There was some weird things in there like ignore playstore version but nothing that I could find that would lead me to who was watching me. Is there anything I can still do that will lead me to who did this? I have a strong idea of who it was but need evidence so I can prosecute them. Any help would be appreciated. Im putting up a 500 dollar bounty if anyone can help me get some solid evidence.

Try logging into your Google account from a computer. Look at what devices have access to your account. I looked at mine a couple of months ago and saw a phone I never owned on AT&T. Funny thing is I have NEVER had AT&T. I've always and still have Verizon. I immediately removed, blocked and reported the device.

Not until after the connection was severed. My first thought was to run a virus scan. The only thing I found was an application was installed feb 1st and the clean version of chrome stopped uploading on Feb 1st.
Why are there two of these? And how did they use dual messenger to install doubles? I've disabled all of them.

Did you delete the corrupt Chrome already? The IP history may be in there...
you wish to find your IP address Internet history, you can easily do so directly from your Internet browser.
Step 1
Open your Internet browser, and click on "Tools" located in the horizontal menu bar at the top of the window.
Step 2
Click on "Internet Options"
Step 3
Click on "Settings" located beneath the "Browsing History" subheading.
Step 4
Click on the "View Files" button to find your IP address Internet history.
If you post the chrome apk that you dumped or anything else that you have that was related to the "infected" files, they might be helpful in looking for clues.
These are the apk files that I suspect could have been infected. Unfortunately I didn't pull them until after they were updated. But I believe there is still a change log kind of manifest if you decompile them.
On mobile? Im not seeing those options

From what I can see, those apks unfortunately appear to be normal un-tampered files. The manifest I believe you are referring to is a component of the apk that dictates things like permissions and interfaces, but it does not perform any sort of logging or historical record sadly, as the entire apk is replaced when an app is updated or installed over an existing installation.
I am not sure how much cleaning you have done of your device since it happened, but aside from clues or records which might be available from various services you use (finding connected accounts that aren't yours, history of any account activities that weren't initiated by you, etc), your next best bet would probably be to dig through the files on the device in search of anything that shouldn't be there. Hopefully there is still some artifact of the infection which could potentially point towards its origin. I will follow this thread, happy to dig through files in my spare time.
Does anyone know if android keeps a log of installs or qnything in the root folder perhaps?

Yes but I've never set up secure folder. Never felt a need to.
First thing I do is a factory reset (and hope that gets it) and reset the Google password.
Keep that bloody device 100% isolated from your PC and data backup copies including the SD card*. Wipe the SD card in the device before the reload and again after the reload. Do NOT connect the card or phone to your PC before the new load is proven clean. Load data directly to SD card from the PC then to the 10+ just in case.
Try to piece together when and what did it but that is a secondary concern. Consider it a drill.
Better get while the gettings good... that level of being compromised means no time to lose ditching the OS. I most likely wipe the SD card too and use one of the clean data backups I keep for just such an event. Torch all data on the device.
If it gets into your backup data copies you're boned.
OSs are 100% expendable, critical data is not.
*you can scan it with everything on the planet and still miss trojans, tainted jpegs/pngs, etc if no definitions exist yet. Expect multiple hidden infections now and go full nuke.
Isolating the infection to that device is only priority. It's possible the infection(s) are already on one or more backups and/or your PC. That's why it's important to keep multiple time staggered backups on multiple electronically isolated hdds.
I keep a 3 tier backup and my PC is never internet connected.
Keep your head and limit the spread...

looks normal to me. Those are typical apps that run when dual account messenger service is used .
