What is so good about cyanogen is it good enough to move from leedroid v1.2 Rom?
What are the advantages of cyanogen?
Thanks
Aamir.

I there,
I have run cyanogen and leedroid on desire HD.
I personally like the sense interface and cyanogenmod has this removed.
I have been a fan of cyanogen on the g1 for a while now and always keep an eye on what is available but When I first got my desire HD I really fell for sense. I use the facebook/contact integration etc but a lot of users don't want this. CM has a good solid rom with all the extras removed. It is nice and fast and responsive but doesn't contain sense or google apps by default. You can add the google elements though.
I went for it to try it out and simply missed sense but was impressed with the speed etc
give it a go and see what you miss
have fun
Thanks I'll check Cyanogen out today.

Hi,
I found myself asking the same question but not only about CM roms, about any rom and I must say, I've tried Android Revolution and CM and all I can say is wow.
With stock, I found my phone struggling to last a whole day before the battery died, now with CM, it easily lasts a day - absolutely amazed by it.
As for the software itself, I am more than happy with it, I too like some aspects of Sense, others really annoy me so I'll never be truly happy with either direction!
All I can say is give it a try - everyone is different and will like different things! One thing is for sure though, your battery will be happier!
sense is better imo, im using cm6 customized alot but id much rater be on sense because of the camera contacts and all the other goodies you get like srs and dolby sound, battery i never had a problem with either one of them cm6 is known for battery problems on some phones
i like how you can easily customise the status/notification bar but thats as far as it goes for whats better, people will go on about speed improvements etc but there really isnt any its more placebo than anything i find
but each to their own
ill just stick to sense and wait for LeeDROID's v1.3 update coming in the next few weeks.
Thanks everyone.
I recommend you try revolution, I preferred it to CM. Battery life is 50% better than stock.

Alright.. so we all probably use virtuous rom, gingervillian, cyanogen or miui.
I wanna know why everyone chooses each one.. I've flashed all and am just curious to why everyone else chooses the roms they do.. what really makes you stay with the rom you have??
I run miui. To me cyanogen lacks full customization. And has no benefitial features over miui. I get same battery life and phone runs smoothly at 1ghz as it would on any other rom. ONLY issue is random reboots. Which is a theme issue not a rom issue.. And I don't care for sense roms.. to me they slow the phone down.. although I am waiting for cm7 to become stable before my first flash.
Sent from my G2.
Currently I am running MIUI. I'm still getting used to it but overall I like it. I love the UI. It looks clean and it's quick.
Stock post ota deodexed.... because every other rom gives me some sort of problem that there is no guide to fixing and I don't have the time to troubleshoot the bull****
Whats deodexed mean??

The 1.2Ghz clock speed from the God speed thread.
Anything higher than that affects my battery and I don't see any obvious benefit as I don't play any games that need a higher CPU.
virtuous because of eye candy and htc streams are awesome!!
which rom saves battery most?
I use CM6.1.1
I previously tried Virtuous because I always wanted a Sense phone but realized Sense actually sucks, well the messaging, gallery and dialer at least.
I use my phone heavily for A2DP bluetooth streaming and apperantly cyanogenmod is pretty much the best rom for bluetooth audio quality, also the added equalizer feature is awesome. Its just like the stock rom whish I loved since my nexus days but with just the right amount of customization.
MIUI looks annoying as hell, why not just buy an iDevice if your into that UI?

When you install an app, sometimes it comes with an odex file (i believe it's an extension of some sort to the app) When you are de-odex'd, it merges the extension (dot odex file) with the apk. The only reason I wanted this rom was to use themes for stock roms. I also found that it boots the phone up a hell of a lot faster.
Highly recommended for people who want the stock feel but like small mods here and there.

That's not a rom...
that's a kernel........... *facepalm*
I run Virtuous for a few reasons:
1. camera - the stock Android camera app is abysmal. Few options and not easy to use in the least.
2. music player - genre support is a big one for me
3. Sense - I use LauncherPro, but I prefer the sense contacts and other features.
4. I installed the 3D gallery from stock, so I have access to both. One other small benefit of the otherwise useless Sense gallery is a scrollable 'share' pop-up. On stock ROMs (or CM), if you have too many options in this menu, you can't scroll so you can't access them. Sense lets you scroll the 'share' list.

Not everything about miui is iphonish... and even the parts that are you have options.. the menus? I turn those to the standard grid. the icons? Not all are uniformed "squares" all thou the theme is use they are. But I actually am I fan of uniformed icons. I think it looks cleaner.. imho. What about miui looks annoying?? I admit the original launcher is lame. But I don't use it.. I think docks and notification bars are lame. I don't use either and rock adw.. swipe down for notifications and up for apps. plus you can't tell me miui lock screen isn't sexy..

Hey guys,
So I'm getting a little impatient with waiting for Gingerbread on my DHD and was thinking of going to CM7 now that its Final. Previous Custom ROMS so far havn't really done it for me. I kinda like the reliablility and battery life etc of the stock build.
Has anyone tried CM7 on the DHD who could maybe give a little account of how it worked out (battery life etc)?
Thanks

Battery life is superb on CM7 and much better than the Gingerbread Sense ROMs. I take it you have tried the latest Desire S builds? I recommend RCMix if you haven't. If you are wanting the pure Google experience though, you have nothing to fear with CM7.
Regards.
Stock rom offers a better connection between all the social networks, better stock widgets and htc sense camera app. hmmm i did have CM7 for while and i loved it but its just the camera app that did it for me, i guess im just too used to HTC sense !
I had no problems with CM7 either. Very nice rom. Camera App is nice. Audio is great. Having or not having HTC Sense is a big decision maker. Once or if you get bored of Sense, then you will really enjoy a rom like CM7 for all its other differences. If it could have the Sense Weather animations and clock, Touch Input keyboard and HTC Reader 2.0 - it could be my ideal rom at this point.
Although I'm a relative noob with trying the many Android roms.

The clock, albeit not with the flip function, can be found all over the internet. Search for Fancy Widget (Sense Clock) to find it. If you can't and desperately need it, I will pm you the apk upon request, although will have to dig it out first. Keyboard? I'm confused as to exactly what you mean, but you can use the HTC keyboard on CM7 as well as numerous other replacements. HTC Reader??!! No way! Aldiko and Laputa both make HTC's attempt look poor. Not to mention Kindle.
Personally, the slight nuances of pure Android are what I find hard to resist. The transition animations, which were present on the Donut Sense UI but inexplicably left out since 2.1, are a big one. I know you can find ROMs which include the different animations or use Launcher Pro, but they never operate 100% and stutter/glitch at random moments. Even the way the keyboard bounces onto the screen rather than just "appearing" gives a more polished feel. The clean simple UI, which lacks the clutter and plethora of menu's that Sense incorporates is a dream to navigate, and the overall speed of the OS is unrivalled. I guess for the "average user", Sense is a comfortable, intuitive blanket which makes Android accessible for the masses. In the Windows Mobile days and arguably when Cupcake/Donut were still in use, it was a necessity. Since 2.1 however, I feel it is no longer needed as the Android UI has evolved to a point where it should appeal to anyone.
Regards.
EDIT: Just seen your website Grant! Forgive the app recommendations, I see you are already well versed in alternatives.
Thanks guys!!
Im still not sure! I wasn't the interface i was worried about! I've given the customs a whirl and its been more the reliability and performance that have brought me back to the stock ROM. I've downloaded the CM7 zip! might give it a chance over the weekend before the week starts over! Ill always have my back-up for when HTC decide to give us an official release of 2.3.3.
Maybe ill never go back once i try CM7!
cheers
if your a gameloft gamer, i suggest sticking with a sense 2.2 rom. if your a audiophile, cm7.
So using it now! Love the look and feel except I find that its a big sticky when swiping between homescreens. Any suggestions?

Try a different launcher. Launcher Pro is one of the smoothest.
Regards.
The Regina 3D Launcher is one I've only just heard of - thanks to Pocketnow.com.
For anyone who hasn't tried CyanogenMod 7 - there are some screenshots here.
I've only tried 3 Roms so far on Android. It would be nice to have an ongoing poll based on member's records or vote or something to see which ones are the most popular.

One thing I found missing is the ability to hide certain albums within the gallery. A nice feature when you've lots of crap on you SD card! Also having the GPS issue that seems pretty widespread.
Other than that, battery life = more awesome than Stock!
Title says it all.. leave bellow what you want to see in the next .sense release. If its a good idea and I like it then I will add your username/xda name to the default wallpaper with names in everybody who helped in a cool way!

maybe some cm7 features. I'd love a cyanosense. Tried to cook one myself. But it's a nightmare to get an overview about how all the sense components work together
We want feature of 3.5 sense..with more internal memory...
Rom shoud have sense skin support..

Customizable status bar design more than CM7.
As the smartboy0668 said.
Increase the internal memory without install link2sd or Data2sd.
I mean already including in a ROM.
Two different ROM version link2sd or Data2sd.
or one version is ok. I dont know which one is the better.

make it as much customizable as it can be that's always a hit
maybe add otg support is a good choice

Percental and visible battery in status bar.
Salsa (?) type sms bubbles.
Cyanongenmod features
NookColor Cyanogenmod 7.1 "Overclocked"
Sense 3.5, Data2SD, OC Kernel, Clean of any unusable apps or that are in Market like FB, Friend Stream, HTC Hub, HTC Likes, News, Stocks, Google Maps, etc. That would be the best ROM

what abt transparent status bar...
definitely more internal memory data2sd and maybe transition effects like Go Launcher and maybe crt effect????
SUPER CUSTOMIZABLE...like we can change everything we can see on the screen...
Please keep all HTC widgets on board. I may be one of a very few people, but I like them very much. After all that's what Sense is all about, isn't it?
You could add some more HTC Widgets from HTC Hub, too. I've been unable to log into htcsense.com for months now.
You could remove stuff available on the Market (like Facebook, etc.), that's fine. You could also remove HTC Stocks. There are far better apps/sites for people who need information like that.
Skin support with various skins would be highly appreciated, too.
And now some more creative suggestions:
If you could re-partition the internal memory and make at least 200mb available for apps (instead of default 150mb), that would be great. Of course this should not affect the performance/stability of the device in a bad manner... If you decide to stick to the familiar stuff, Link2SD on board and Data2SD as an option are okay.
As someone else mentioned, CM7 features are very welcome. Especially some extended options in the Settings menu.
I would like to see some ICS/CM9 features, like the reorganized Settings menu, the app drawer, etc. Anyway, I believe more of that is about to come in .sense 2.0 at the earliest.
I don't like HTC Explorer's Sense 3.5 interface very much. I'd prefer a Launcher which resembles the Senstation (XE) 3.5 interface instead.
I would like to see an O/C Daemon support for an automatic control of the CPU. I myself don't think the implementation of an O/C Daemon would be an easy job to do, so maybe leave this thing out.
Some drivers which enhance the sound volume and quality are well-needed. When I'm outdoors I pretty much have to rely on the vibration to get an incoming call.
You could also implement the latest OTA Update (most of all the new radio). It should bring a better performance and prolonged battery life, otherwise what does it stand for?
Support of various add-ons, like bootanimations, transition effects, themes (not just skins), easier support of UOT Kitchen without an upload of any system files (like the one in m1ndh4x8r's ROM) and various mods/ tweaks to be installed by choice.
Right now I can't think of anything else but this is more than enough. I can't wait to try out a well-cooked version of your ROM.
Cyanbread andronian themes
HTC Wildfire S VM "S-Off" "Rooted" Stock Rom
All i want is everthing working with a good battery life......data2sd can be installed via the Data2Sd Installer by Jikantaru(now m1ndh4x8r)
Sense 3 and do not include anything that can be added post install. But allow for the ability to do so. Basically a stripped down, customizable Sense 3 ROM.
HTC Wildfire S | CyanogenMod 7.2

.sense will not expand space by itself. I will include a data2sd script with the next release that is completely optional.
would be great the wake up by volume buttons!
im a big fun of ics, and i want to suggest you to style your rom in ics way.
i think IceCream Sense is a good inspiration.
Hello
I Updated from ICS to JB few weeks ago.
In ICS stock rom and viper x (the only ICS Rom i used) the home screen scrolling was so smooth. So smooth.
Now I'm trying ARHD 21.0 and before Viper X 3.6.1 and both were choppy and laggy, only on the home screen/
I did some search and all I could find was people like me with this problem asking for solution but none..
So I'm trying here again, Is there any solution? OC or kernel or something ? Maybe I need to format my SD?
thanx in advance
Shaked1
Try a full wipe, wipe everything twice and install the rom clean.
I'm on viper for a long time now and i never experienced this issue
In my experience I do triple Wipe every time... Still no good...
Still Searching Google And Xda, and still finding more and more people suffering from this. ("suffering" is maybe too much, but we want smooooth.)
I realy wonder what could it be.
I will try Rom Cleaner though
Maybe the turbo swap mod can solve some lag ?
Thanks Mr Hofs but still no good.
Rom Cleaner Didn't help at all,and the turbo swap mod maybe did it faster, but it still not as smooth like i had on viperS ICS.
Its Fast but i can still feel and see the stuttering on the small white bar that represents which window you are..
My Friend with HTC sensation and viper rom is smoother that mine... I feel embarrassed...
are u using stock kernel or custom one? try to change governor...because some governor are way too choppy and yes...play with kernel settings like governor ^^

JB is supposed to be more smooth? Do you use lots of widgets in Home screen or does it freeze with the stock settings as well? Did you flash any other Mods?
Are you using a live wallpaper?? Some of them are very buggy.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Thanks a lot for your ideas.
Tried also Insertcoin... felt the same lak of smoothness...
So I flashed MX repacked kernel for insertcoin, used smartmax governor on SETCPU, It felt a bit better but still...
I dont use LWP, so I tried removing the widget that i use daily for the past few years since i had the HTC Desire - 4x2 weather clock, Agenda, Calender, Tasks and a photo frame of my child. Even the Insertcoin ROM for the desire could handle all these widgets with butter smoothness.
In the end of taking in and out widgets from the home screen i realized that the problem is either the full screen animation in the clock ,the clock itself or the agenda.
Now trying few hours with the 4x1 clock instead of the 4x2 and it feels way better... I'm not sure. Could it be? Or something is wrong with my device?
I will report back and thanks again.
I dont know...i use insertcoin with latest xm beta without repack and with pmc governor and max freq set to 1ghz all is fine...home screen and whole phone is buttery smooth ...I also installed turbo swap mod and odexed the Rom with the aroma option ...its so insanely fast now didn't see any laggs till now really great so try and play with governor...I use the 4x2 clock widget and like I said also with unlimited scrolling in home screen its insanely smooth and fast
