Only 10Gb space? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
was wondering why my SGNII which is supposed to have 16Gb or internal storage shows only 10Gb (total) space? Is this normal?

Yep that is totally normal. It is because the rest of the space is used to the system

[Q] Now that we have full access...

How can we go about getting the rest of our internal memory?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
there is no more internal memory to get. I don't have links to the actual explanation but essentially htc took the 4gb flash memory and organized/opitmized it in order to increase performance but it means we don't actually have 4gb of internal memory

Note 2 internal memory

Can someone do me a favour a and check their total internal memory. Mine is at 10.36gb. Is this not too small? I wasn't expecting the full 16gb, but even so...

Yes its only 10.36 GB free. Probably the remaining is used by Samsung pre-installed apps etc.
Cheers. Oh well. Spotify better hurry up and allow moving to external sd!

Do a search for the old spotify apk, it lets you choose external. You uninstall spotify, install the old one and choose external storage (download a song to confirm its on ext), then upgrade to the current version and it will keep external as your storage location.

Thanks for saying what the memory is. Just proves to me that I need one with more memory.
Hurry up Samsung and release the larger versions.

Why am i getting not enough memory on my phone

I have been getting notifications that my memory is getting low.. And i tried downloading more apps but it wont let me..
My internal memory still has like 9GB left on it and on top of that i have a 8gb sd card..
Why am i getting this? Is it the ram?

Missing storage space

I can't figure out where about 4gb of mystery space has gone. The screen shot shows the breakdown of storage yet I only have 6gb free. I've used sd maid to cleanup, corpse find etc.., as well as removed my titanium backups so see if that's where my missing storage went.
I'm running the latest cm10 nightly.

That's crazy, have you tried the app "DiskUsage"?

If you've run SD Maid, it may be your best option is to format your data. I made a post a while ago that lays out steps on how I did it to reclaim space, but not lose all my data: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33918194

Yes this is normal, 2GB are for RAM, some for the OS etc. and the rest is free memory.

Wth does ram have to do with nand memory?
To OP. That is correct amount but not cause of RAM. The 16gb memory is partitioned for system, cache data etc.
And the one left is your sdcard.
You can always an external sdcard for music, photos and movies.
But game data and some other data like from gps apps must install in internal.

I just read something about nand memory being used as ram extension. I have no idea if that is the case here or not. http://wikibon.org/wiki/v/The_adoption_of_NAND_Flash_as_a_Seamless_Extension_of_RAM_Memory

If I understand that correctly it means that after ram is filled it will use nand space as virtual ram. I think that would decrease read speeds as nand is significantly slower than ram.

Yes that is what I understood from the article too, so we have dedicated 2gb of ram that has nothing to do with the 16 gb of storage, right? I wasnt entirely sure

Yes. Ram is autonomous memory. Nothing to do with the internal 16gb nand flash memory.
