[MOD] Get Proper Aero Glass Effect w/ Blurred Transparency - Windows 8 Development and Hacking

There have been other methods of transparency in Windows 8, but none have included a blur effect. This program is in alpha, but includes blur and has been confirmed working on my Acer Win 8 Pro machine with Intel HD and Intel i3. Here's to hoping the development of the program will be ongoing.
Edit: As of now, must be running Windows 8 x64. Best chance to stay updated on latest version is to do a Google search for Big Muscle Aero Glass.

Yes, unfortunately. Dev has been updating versions slowly, 0.4 the latest as of 2/24. I imagine x86 will be supported in the near future.
To keep an eye on the project, do a Google search for Big Muscle Aero Glass.

That is the correct link, there's no reason to link to Deviant Art when the project is not there and cannot be downloaded there.

[VMWare] Android AOSP/ROM Developer Environment

Dear community,
I made a AOSP developer environment for VMWare Workstation 8 or latest VMWare Player (free).
You can easily compile AOSP ROMs without having to set the whole thing up.
You can use this VMWare image as a base to build AOSP ROMs. Imade it for those having trouble getting it to work or maybe if you don't have time to set it up properly. Well if you are downloading this you might have a good reason!
This kit is Google Nexus ready! You can easily compile a AOSP ROM without knowing a line to code.
This VMWare image is:
- ICS ready
- Gingerbread ready
- Fully updated
- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
- Eclipse SDK + ADT
- Android Kitchen
- Froyo and lower is not supported.
PASSWORD: root
Download link:
Part 1 - Stable v1
Part 2 - Stable v1
Part 3 - Stable v1
Image is extracted, where do I start?
Continue from this link
Donation
Donations are always welcome!
Really really really thanks to you
Great idea. Only one issue.
Any chance we can get some other mirrors?
Oh come on, you asking for donations for this? you looking to buy a nexus and need help?
"Compile a rom without knowing a line of code?" Things can get messy with building you know.
How about informing people what branch is the repo tracking, or what commits will they have to get to sucessfully build..like oprofile (if not on master branch), gtest, slang..not to speak how to use gerrit or git..
It's great you spent time putting all this together, uploading it.. but there's really more to it than just linking to source.android.com.
Also, one last thing, why did you pull gingerbread tree when this is a sub forum/thread for galaxy nexus, which is ICS native?
FYI, Google says that to build AOSP in a VM, at least 16GB of RAM is recommended.

I managed fine with 4gb on my work machine, for some reason though Virtual Box wont build it on my laptop at home
Going to try this method, op thanks for this do I need all three links? or is that three mirrors?
Huge thanks, will definitely help lots of people get started in ROM development.

On your work machine, are you doing the build on the bare metal or in a VM?
I've kind of suspected that Google may be overstating things a bit when they said 16GB minimum for a VM, but never had a chance to test it out myself...
Can you please upload to Megaupload or Multiupload please??
It's not hard to set up an environment....a quick google will give you about 5 commands that you can run and you're ready to start syncing with the AOSP repository. And tbh, I personally prefer VirtualBox over VMWare.

I assigned 4GB and 8 cores to my virtual machine and it was done in less than half an hour on a 2630QM
More mirrors are coming. I am currently working on making the VMWare image smaller in general!
I will possibly take out most applications which are not related to development. I might also take out libreoffice and other big softwares as most of you can install libreoffice etc on your host machine.
I promise I will make everyone happy here! But understand why it's taking so long. I am currently having exams in university. You have to understand that comes first!

This would be useful if you didn't have to wait 12 hours (literally) to download it. Can't donate or download when 12 hours is the price tag. It's too much time. Get the files up on a faster file share and I'll download and donate for sure. It's a great idea and I appreciate it, but 33k a second xfers isn't going to cut it for me

No, I build it on my machine with 4GB of ram (and no swap due to an error ). Haven't tried it in VMware or Virtualbox though, but you don't need 16 GB of ram.

[Q] Ubuntu 11.10 USB install help, Any Linux Pros?

Yes i know there are ubuntu forums just bare with me please.
So i just got a decent spec computer and saw that you could easily dual boot ubuntu and windows 7 via Wubi. I have a laptop and apprently too many drives and wubi fails. So went and made a usb bootable and it works goes the to proper boot screen and i choose to install ubuntu but it boots to a black screen. Ive searched for a solution and found way to many. Also i didnt quite understand them all to well and have seen that some of them dont work. My laptop specs are
Hp Pavillion dv6z-c600 Quad Edition
AMD A8 3550-mx with Radeon HD discrete graphics.
6GB of RAM
Windows 7 64-bit.
Ive read there is a problem with radeon drivers especially those with discrete class graphics. And there is a solution but it turns the resolution down and it looks terrible. I hope someone smart enough can help me out and possibly give me a visual fix not just a list of instructions.
Or if you can suggest a different flavor of linux that works for laptops and radeon graphic drivers.
Have you tried fedora?

I used Virtual Box to get my installation going. I remember when I was doing it that it was very finicky when it comes to video drivers.
I'll find the guide I used, it had some info on black screen i think
EDIT: this wasn't it - but this is a nice guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Ubuntu-on-VirtualBox

not a good sign - "Hopefully you have an Intel-based G6. Those seem to be a little easier to get working. I have an AMD G6 and have yet to get it functioning fully"

Black Screen After Installing Ubuntu 11.10 AMD-64 Altenate (Radeon Graphics Card) [closed]

The USB Boot Loader, of course, booted to a Black Screen. So, it was pretty clear that I needed to install from the "Alternate" ISO with a plain text interface. Install was a breeze, but when it came time to booting, boom: black screen.
Good luck with this

[Q] Linux Dualboot from Asus TF700 to Ouya possible?

Hi all.
I just created this thread to see discuss along with others the possibility of getting Ubuntu running in the Ouya based on the fact that there is already a port to do so for the Asus TF700 Infinity which has the virtually the same hardware.
More information about what has been done for the Asus TF700:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014759
Would it be possible to use the work already done to get this port ready?.
I am not a gamer so I am looking forward to use an Ouya as a low power / low consumption multipourpose server.
Opinions???.
Pros./cons.???
Work ahead???
Best regards.
juisjuis.
Hi all.
Someone has already been able to run Debian in an Ouya.
The instructions allows you to create an USB stick that will be Debian functional after Fastboot-ing it.
The installation is buggy, but is works quite well.
I guess is the first step to have Debian in the Ouya.
I tested the procedure and works.
I cannot paste external links yet because I'm too new in xda-devs site, so if some moderator/administrator wants to fix it, please do so. I guess it a quite important notice.

Enjoy.

I think you can run native Ubuntu on the Ouya as the hardware is pretty close to the Nexus 7 8GB. I have started to look at this a little myself figuring i would try to load the Nexus 7 build onto the Ouya to see what happened.
I personally would like to see an Openelec release for the Ouya..
Instructions for Ubuntu are in the Nexus 7 XDA forum.

Hi, thanks for the tip.
I would like to see that too...
There is another intermediate point that would be to have some light Ubuntu (xubuntu/lubuntu) and install the xbmc/vdpau support and that would do the trick. In fact would be more flaxible from my point of view than having Openelec.
I do run Xubuntu+XBMC for AMD Fusion and works pretty well and is not that close than Openelec.
What do you think?.
Best regards.
juisjuis.
