opening videos from stock gallery using 3rd party player - HTC One X

dont know if this has been asked before, but is it possible to do this?

anyone?

I don't think so.. Stock video player opens by default when a video is selected from gallery..
The only option I believe is rooting and changing default player..

how do you change the default player?
by changing do you mean changing from stock player to 3rd party player but, opened from stock gallery?

Umm.. I am sure you know about rooting.. I have rooted my HOX and removed the default player altogether..
I installed MX Player and it opens by default now since I do not have stock player..

[Q] How to watch video with both subtitles and Dolby/SRS effect

Hi everyone
I'm a new DHD user and not a native English speaker, so i really want to know how i can watch my favorite movies (most in English) with my mother language subtitles and still has Dolby enhancement effect? If i am not wrong, the stock video player comes with the DHD has the effect, but it cannot read subtitle files, and in opposite other 3rd video player apps has the power to show subtitles but sound quality is worse without Dolby.
Any help would be appreciated
Is that the problem of your video? Because i using the dhd player to watch it got subtitle, it is ok and without any problems~

Really? Which type (extension) of subtitle did you have? I have .srt files and the stock player does not show anything =.=

I'm pretty sure the stock video player doesn't support subtitles. Try MoboPlayer from the market
Try RockPlayer .

+1 totally agreed
I tried Moboplayer, it's one of the best video player out there with intuitive UI and flexible option. But it does not support sound effect like the stock, such a pain
So how on earth can i get both those amazing effect and subtitles for films?
I think the only way out your dilemma is to encode your video and use bitmap subtitles that are blended iinto video file.

like the post before this said, the only way would be to hardcode the subs into the movie files and then watch them with the stock player
Ok then btw, dont know why the htc video player is that s__u__c___k! Not even had a setting menu, and does not show video's name neither. Kind of useless!

[Q] can i remove the original music player ?

hey,
I installed power amp but when there is lock screen it shows first the original music player.
On the original music player there are no settings at all. and i tried the poweramp settings but for no help.
my last option that i can think of is to remove the original music player, or at least to freeze it.
is it plausible?
If it is, which file i should delete\freeze ?
And can it harm something else ??
Go to poweramp settings and make sure lock screen widget is enabled. Also make sure that the stock music player is playing.
You can only delete/freeze/disable the default music player if you're rooted.

yeah, the lock screen is enabled. but why do i need the stock music to play ?
and yes, my phone is rooted.
You should be able to remove the default music player with titanium backup. Not sure if it will affect anything else though.
You can make a backup of the app before removing just in case you need to restore it again

Oops, meant not playing
Maybe the stock music player is switching on when you play, and you're getting the default lock screen widget instead of whatever you want.
If you're rooted, then titanium, su/terminal commands, and plenty of other apps will help delete stock music.
thanks guys.
My Q is what is the name of the app freeze\delete ?
Cuz i cant find it. i freeze couple of apps but it wont help.
maybe something lockscreen app ?
Not sure what rom you are using, but beware of deleting music.apk as on gingerbread roms deleting music.apk also deletes the video player, im not sure if there are separate apk's with regards to ICS or JB, so you may wish to look in to that prior to deleting music..
connect your phone to pc/mac go to command line/terminal and type:
adb shell rm /system/app/Music.apk
you must have adb installed. in ICS and JB it does not delete the video capability. Some ROMs come without GoogleMusic and video works just fine. However, as far as I remember there is an option to turn off the default player in lockscreen.
root your phone, and then use something like root explorer and find the apk file and remove it
otrfse UNIX
i do this with every rom i flash. never had an issue.

Audio and video players arent a part of gapps. You can find mx player in market for video or Apollo for audio.

KitKat 4.4 doesnt seem to like other players and i cant even find the built in app?
It looks cheap and nasty saying plugins missing and just basic play and thats it
I've tried different browsers to no effect , they all just load into default?

Try Chrome with MX. works fine for me - if it always goes to default, reset the defaults in the app settings.

Default video player I believe is hidden, does downloading MX not give you a prompt when trying to play a video? There should be a prompt like "play with" and the you can select "just once" or "always", then select MX player
If you've selected the default player to play it always, then a factory reset will help. Make sure you back everything up.
Seriously? Factory reset just to clear default apps is a bit extreme.
How about trying default reset apps such as:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appiator.defaultappmanager
Nexus 7 LTE
Stock rooted KOT49E
Faux Kernel

Alternatively :
If you use ES file Explorer you can long press a file, hit more/menu, go to "open as" select video, then select the installed program you want to use.

The current version of MX player worked fine on 4.4 but lost compatibility with 4.4.1 update. Im just waiting for the developers to release their update of MX, it will come soon Im sure.

Thanks! It's working. I didn't even think of trying the daily builds since the app store said it's not even compatible with my device.
I'm using this Dice Player for playing videos, works on 4.4.2.

Me too. The good thing mx player not working on 4.4.2 is forcing us to search better alternatives. Diceplayer is a good one. Samba server, ftp, stream, dts, audio booster etc. And no ads here.
Sorry my english.

Diceplayer has a nice Samba browser, but it won't play any of my .mkvs over my home network like MX would.

The reason the play store says it is not compatible is because it is blocked in many countries including the US. I read somewhere that it is a licensing issue.
