[Help] Urgent SGS2-T989 Problem

This morning my phone was running fine but since I had a problem with connecting it to the computer I decided to flash the Unroot rom. I had CM7 and synergy kernel installed and i forgot to wipe the phone before flashing. Now, when i try to start the phone, the boot screen shows "Synergy Kernel" and then goes black for a good 1-2 minutes and then proceeds to a popup that says "Sorry! Process system is not responding" and shows an option of "Force Close" or "Wait." The screen freezes and I cannot choose either.
I also tried going into recovery but it only shows
1. Reboot
2. Install from SD
3. Wipe/Factory Reset
4. Wipe cache.
I tried rebooting, Factory reset and cache wipe only to get the same outcome. I recently acquired this phone and I googled all possible methods to fix it with no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

how would i install this?
Look at the second sticky "index check here first" thread and in the how to section there is a link for how to go back to stock. Instructions and links to what you need.

Next time you just enter to recovery and restore from any backup.
I am pretty sure this problem comes from flashing sinergy kernel without take precauntions mentioned in kernel post into account.
Be carefully next time...

[Q] How to re-enable software update?

Hi all,
When checking for a software update I got: "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". In download mode I got: "SYSTEM STATUS: Custom" and I want to know why before trying to wipe the data and cache as suggested here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045073&goto=nextoldest&nocache=1.
Download mode gives the following info:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-N7105
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Device info:
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband version: N7105XXALIK
Kernel version: 3.0.31-240505
Build number: JRO03C.N7105XXALIJ
Rooted method: exynos abuse by chainfire (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297). If I remember well I tried to check for software updated after rooting the device without problems. However, the software never gets updated since none updates seems to be currently available here in Colombia.
Then I installed cerberus and avast as system apps, and more recently Super Su pro and Mobile Odin pro (but didn't flash any firmware so far) to support chainfire's great work. Do you think that some of this apps may have turn the SYSTEM STATUS to Custom? If so, which one?
Thanks in advanced!

Try enabling survival mode in supersu pro and reboot the device
I had this issue as well. I had to use a 100% stock rom with no autoroot etc and never allow phone to boot into OS at any stage. If after any step below phone restarts automatically and begins to boot the OS, pull the battery. There seems to be some sort of scan done at boot/run time which checks to see if anything is root etc and will show the modified status preventing OTA. Obviously you must be extremely careful not to pull the battery during any critical flashing or wiping stage, only if you get the pre-boot splash should you pull battery:
Backup anything you need to PC/Dropbox etc.
Not sure if needed but I reformatted the external SD-Card, just in case the scan was checking on it for NANDROID backups etc.
Run Triangle Away to reset counters. You will reboot into a special mode where you will need to follow instructions. When it has completed and you see the pre-bott splash pull the battery so it doesn't start loading OS (be very careful to only do this when you see the pre-boot splash).
Go into recovery (Vol Up + Home + Power) and do a full factory reset and wipe cache. Pull battery when completed.
Go into ODIN MODE to check counters (Vol Down + Home + Power) that everything is indeed official and zero count.
Still in ODIN MODE, flash the Stock ROM with Odin3.
Now you should be able to boot Stock OS and remain fully official with unmodified status, I just got an OTA update yesterday so can confirm it is definitely possible. Provided the ROM was the official stock with no autoroot or root tools etc the scan shouldn't mark phone as modified.
Thank you all,
I've found the offending application, but can't remember its name!
... Just kidding, it was adblock plus. I uninstalled it and got again:
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
and OTA updates are back.
I'll report the issue to an otherwise awesome application.
Hope it could help someone else.

[Q] 4.2.2 Update

Hello,
My Galaxy Nexus seems to be caught in a boot loop. I woke up this morning took my phone off the charger and it almost immediately said shutting device down and the battery indicator was red with an "X". Now every time I reboot the phone it goes to the Google and then through the Nexus logo gets to the desktop (I don't don't have a lock screen enabled) and then it buzzes and then goes into shutdown. I know the battery has juice because I booted into recovery mode and left the screen on and it doesn't show any signs of shutting it down from there. Also, when I rebooted several times I can get it to the desktop for about five minutes and the battery does show that it's three quarters full. When I decided to go into recovery mode I was able to select recovery when I hit the power button it boots up and then it comes with the android lying down with the red! I got it restored to the factory settings. Then rebooted and started to set up and it crashed and shutdown. when entering my Google account the Gallery Stopped and some other service had to force quit then it locked up. This all started after updating to 4.2.2. Now when I restore it and reboot, it just says "Welcome" and then says it is shutting down. I tried a few times and also deleted the cache as well to see if that would help (it didn't). Is there any way to get a clean update or do I need to send it in to Samsung.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Also, it is a Samsung Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store and has NOT been rooted.
Did you flash the proper update for your device, i.e. yakju or takju? You could always reflash a full image to fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

It was OTA update. Here is where I am at now: I shutdown the phone plugged it in and let it charge. Then I was able to restore to factory settings, but the camera app still doesn't work, it says the gallery app has crashed. I can go into the gallery app, but when I try to access the camera it crashes. So far that is the only error I am getting, is there a way to reinstall the camera app?
You need to flash the stock nexus favtory images trough fastboot. It is the best for a clean start as it restores all the partitions to stock. Its the best fresh start when problems like this happen.
Get it here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Download the 4.2.2 (takju/yakju) images, ectract it and flash it via fastboot.
I am 99% sure everything will be fine after this.
Let me know how it goes

Ok, does your phone have an unlocked bootloader?
If not, you need to unlock the bootloader in order to use fastboot.
so the steps are:
-unlock the bootloader
-follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

I did it but the camera and any app that uses the camera is still not working.
If you reflashed a factory image and it's still not working, then it's probably going to be a hardware issue. Especially if the led was red, it sounds like it needs to go to samsung. Possibility of water damage?
Flash the binary update then followed with 4.2.2 kernel
Can you be more specific as to what binary update you are suggesting? It may help.

Did you flash userdata? I've got the feeling that you didn't.
Fastboot boot a recovery and wipe data/factory reset.

[Q] Unable to fix bootloop - even tried STOCK flash in fastboot. No luck.

Hey guys,
Long time lurker, ROM user since the Galaxy S days.
Weird, intractable bootloop problem here. Gets to boot animation sometimes gets to the "upgrading android" screen, then bootloops in a few seconds after upgrading a few apps. Usually bootloops during the boot animation (doesn't matter what ROM or Stock ROM I try). Ocassionally gets to my "SIM PIN" screen, then reboots before I have a chance to enter anything.
Normal State have Cyanogenmod and Franco Kernel running buttery smooth. (CM10.1M3 Snapshot + Franco 376 when problem started)
Problem Started When I tried to update CM to the new RC1 from the Cyanogenmod upgrade button in "settings". I had SuperSU installed overtop the built-in superuser. Everything was working fine.
What I have tried:
Have latest CWM: Have flashed, reflashed, wiped and re-wiped everything imaginable through CWM. All Caches, system sdcard, you name it, if it's an option in CWM I have tried formatting or wiping it and reflashing a ROM.
ROMs I have tried - CM10.1M3 Snapshot, CM10.1RC1 CM10.1RC2, ParanoidAndroid 3.5+ (Latest), Bigxie Maguro Latest.
Finally I got fed up and decided to go back to STOCK, unrooted, unlocked using fastboot.
I did:
> fastboot erase boot
> fastboot erase cache
> fastboot erase recovery
> fastboot erase system
> fastboot erase userdata
> fastboot flash bootloader magurobootloader.img
> fastboot reboot-bootloader
> fastboot flash radio radioxxlj1.img
> fastboot reboot-bootloader
> fastboot -w update image-maguro-jdq39.zip
And after booting back into the STOCK google recovery (man I haven't seen that screen in AGES) and resetting factory clearing cache. Low and behold -
STILL BOOT LOOPS!!!! What the hell!?!
I'm at my wits end. Any suggestions would be great. What am I forgetting here?! I am absolutely desperate.
What is in the update image and where did you get it? I'd flash everything manually, skip the update command.

Ok good idea, I'll try. The update image was the stock image from google (can't post link - low post count) I just didn't remember the filenames when I was making the original post - but they are the official STOCK images - for the radio, the bootloader and the ROM.

Okay I tried flashing boot, system, userdata, and recovery manually with fastboot flash and after that I STILL get the rebootloop from google logo to boot animation to google logo. So weird.

So decided to try TWRP just to see...well I dunno.
Interstingly enough when I got to hit "reboot" in TWRP it says "OS not installed!!" which is weird because I basically flashed the stock everything 4.2.2 (bootloader recovery, system, boot, everything) from fastboot. Then JUST flashed the TWRP recovery.
I really don't know what to make of this. I just tried keeping the battery out for like 2 minutes, then going back into fastboot and manually flashing:
bootloader
boot
radio
recovery
system
userdata
relocked bootloader
of the STOCK google maguro 4.2.2 (MD5 sum is good. It checked out)
And I still get a continuous reboot loop that doesn't even get past the "X" animation screen. Very ocassionally (1/10) it does get past that screen and I get to the screen where you choose your language, but right when I choose my language, the phone reboots and then continues the loop.
Honestly...Unless someone has another idea, I think I'm going to get another phone tomorrow and pray I'm under warranty. I hate to do it, because I've never had to do that before through all my flashing/ROM adventures...but I don't know what else to do. I've been using sideload for everything (except of course the fastboot flashing back to stock), but I doubt that has anything to do with it...I dunno crap.
anyone have any words of advice?
One thing I thought i might work was redoing the partition table in Odin. So I tried this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065470 (Thanks to Samersh72)
ODIN worked perfectly, download mode worked well, installed fine, and...
still bootloops!
Sometimes gets to "updating android" does a few apps, then bootloops. Once got to the screen where I select language, and before I could select anything - bootloop!
Do you guys think this is hardware? Right now I've installed stock 4.2.2 through ODIN and locked the bootloader in anticipation of returning the phone...

I looked into the OMAP flash method - that's some hardcore stuff. It looks like it's more for phones that can't access recovery, or hard seemingly bootbricked. I can actually do all of those things with my phone - I can write a new recovery no problem, I have fastboot access (Works well), I can even seemingly install ROMs - for instance the cyanogenmod boot animation plays fine - but everything boot loops.
I'm a bit worried to try OMAP Flash because it seems from the thread that some people are having their IMEI numbers erased or set to generic and I don't want that to happen since I'm actually still under warranty right now...
Do you think it's worth it to try?

Yeah you're right. OK done.
While I agree that the safest route is to return the device to warranty, omapflash is a tool which communicates with omap chip before even fastboot/bootloader is installed.
Have you tried viewing logcat/dmesg while device is booting to see why and/or its bootlooping?

I can't seem to get at logcat from this state. even if I try adb -d logcat or something similar it doesn't work. It doesn't pick up the log from the boot. Is it because USB debugging is disabled by default on the stock OS?

Yes, but There's a build.prop property that enables ADB debugging.. Since you have access to a custom recovery, you can mount /system rw and make your changes there.

Similar issue
Hey guys,
I am having a similar issue with my Nexus. It is running Phandroid 3 and one day just locked up, rebooted, and shortly after reboot (15-30 sec. after the OS loads) it freezes. I can still boot into CWM recovery and into fastboot mode, and have tried to flash it with the stock rom and bootloader. I also tried an OMAP flash, but that did not change anything as well. The odd thing is that when I try to flash a new rom (I have tried stock and other custom roms) it flashes as if everything is fine, but when I reboot it still has the phandroid rom on it. Another odd note is that when phandroid boots it notifies me that I have an incoming text message, but I removed the SIM card over a month ago. I have been struggling with this and would love any thoughts or opinions anyone has to offer. Thanks a lot!

Stuck in "blue" screen/odin and can't flash anything successfully

So I attempted to flash the renegade rom...do not think this has anything to do with that in particular, but now I'm stuck on the screen that says the software was not installed correctly. Holding down the power, volume up and home buttons will get me back to odin but when I try to flash anything in Odin (3.10.6), it gets about 20% done and fails. I can't get into the stock recovery again. Before this happened, I was on stock OI1 and had developer options up and bootloader option on , I tried to flash TWRP but kept getting an error, then I had flashed the unikernel (V6 I believe). The phone booted correctly, but the touch screen didn't work. I rebooted several time and tried again, still screen problem. I went into the stock recovery and did a factory reset, booted, screen still didn't work. I went back to odin tried to flash the G920PVPU3BOI1_G920PSPT3BOI1_G920PVPU3BOI1_HOME.tar, but it halted with the fail message at about 20%. Tried again, failed at same time point. Very frustrating because I've successfully rooted and installed multiple roms on my S4 and Evo prior.
At this point I am stuck in the blue screen that says you need to do smart switch to do an emergency recovery, I can get this over to odin, but not recovery. I tried both smart switch and Kies, and both say the phone isn't supported by the software(s). Yes, the drivers were installed prior to. I've tried waiting for the battery to discharge as well, nothing.
I'm at a loss of what to do now. Phone is inoperable and I can't even get into a screen that tells me anything about versions of hardware or software. The barcode is still intact and I can still get into Odin, but nothing more than that. Stock kernel to flash? Why won't odin finish the upgrades? Anything?
The phone is about to go in the trash...Help!

Thanks for replying.
I tried Kies and Smart Switch, but both did not recognize phone. I did manage to find out that TWRP has a sprint variant and that it seems to be incorrectly labeled in many posts. The sprint variant is 2.8.7.0 NOT 2.8.7.1. I managed to flash it in ODIN and now it boots into Recovery, which is a start. I tried applying the renegade rom, but it wouldn't finish and I'm left with a 'no OS detected, do you want to reboot?' from TWRP.
TWRP website isn't much help (but I love that product). At this point, still cannot tell what firmware is on device and where to go from here. I think I may need a recovery of some sort, but don't have. Tried flashing OJ7 tar as recommeded but it continues to fail when it hits the 'system' part of the download.
Still need advice/help....etc.
Since you are now in recovery, wipe everything!
Cache, System, Data, Internal Data and Dalvik Cache. After that, reboot into Odin and try restoring once more in odin. If that does not work, then wipe everything again and try installing Renegade once more.

You should be able to use odin on your PC tp send an image to your phone.
Lookup, for example, how to root your phone in these threads.
