I'm unable to flash any custom Rom after rooting my device. It keeps getting stuck at the boot screen. I've followed all the directions as instructed. I did notice when trying to install a Rom it was not able to access the boot.img or unable to write it? Any help on this would be appreciated.
Did you install custom recovery?

Yes I did. TWRP & CWM. It seems to not be allowing access to write the boot.img?

what tutorial did you use?
i followed this guide and everything works perfectly
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955423
Download the files needed, flash the .tar (cwm) with odin, go into cwm and flash superuser...done.
also are you pushing the files or using cwm to flash the rom zip?

I followed the guide above. Do I need to have an SD card? I don't have one since I came from a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I was flashing the Rom.zip through TWRP and CWM.

If your already rooted id maybe download goomanager and flash twrp through that, I initially rooted with the toolkit and had a hell of a time with flashing after I rooted, but once I did that I was good to go, just make sure you follow directions to the letter.

you dont have to put your roms on an sd card but i did...i always keep my roms on my sd if my phone has an sd slot
its odd that the flash isnt taking...the boot.img is the kernel....did you check the md5 sum?
I'm so frustrated! I've done everything as posted to root and flash a Rom on my device. I've verified I have root access. I've never had these issues! After rooting my device and flashing any Rom like Jedi it won't load past the start up screen.

Yes, and CWM. It dosn't seem to be an issue with Recovery. It seems to be having issues flashing the Kernel during installation. It seems to not be allowing access to write it. I have no idea why this would be? The device is properly rooted & have verified root access.

Jedi Rom had custom kennel but i dont think that is issue(you can try another rom to see its go though). Like im said before try flash rom with PC Odin or Mobile Odin ( now support our note) or try reflash CWM then try flash rom again.

Why do you think it is having an issue with the kernel? Did you try a cache wipe or factory reset after it loops?

Because when trying to flash the BLACKSTAR Rom it said unable to access or write boot.img, somthing like that. I've tried both. It still doesn't go past the galaxy note start up screen.

Try flashing the ROM again in cwm..if it gets stuck at the boot screen..extract the boot.img and push the boot.IMG separately after

Hello everyone...
before posting here i tries some help on 2 other post.. i hope someone had the same problem and found a solution!
I've note 2 7105 and i tried several times updating ROM (with the latest MB6)
via CWM Philz!
everytime i hit INSTALL ZIP and i get the ROM... it just reboot into CWM without installing the rom!
i tried downloading many other times the rom.. and also otehr roms, always the same problem!
does anyone have a solution?
or.. how can i install it via odin mobile pro? cause all the rom i downloaded are .zip!
thank you in advance
You are flashing stock rom with cwm?
If yes, you can't
Flash rom are in zip but not flashable zip
Extract it, you will get tar.md5 file
You can flash using pc odin by selecting it with pda
For mobile odin
Select open file option in mobile odin and point to tar.md5 file you extracted, it will fill up required fields automatic
Select ever root if you want to keep root
Flash

Dr.Ketan thank you for your msg!!
i've a stock rom yes... but before i tried with ROM like this:
N7105-XXDMB6_Deodex_Rooted_03_25_13-teshxx.zip
(so it's not .tar.md5 inside but files like boot.img or folder as META-INF system---)
now finally i've got a atar.md5 ( stock rom )
but i was wondering why on philz CWM happens that reboot everytime i try to install a rom ( like the one above... )

I can't say whether that file is flashable zip or not without I see extracter contents exactly. Ask on the thread from where you have download it.
Philz cwm can flash any flashable zip.
Anyway stock rom you can flash with Mobile Odin as said in previous msg.

You can't flash roms using the stock recovery, only custom recoveries allow it... you'll need to install a custom recovery to install any custom roms

Was just checking out mobile odin... that won't work huh?

Not for flashing custom roms.... that's inky for .tar not .zip files... if you want a custom Rom you will have to install a custom recovery, no way around it

Sounds good. U suggest a certain one?

Either one is fine, but imo, twrp is much nice and the recent update has made it even better... you can download goo manager and install it from there.. just download goo manager from play store and hit the menu button and choose install open script recovery.. then boot straight into recovery and install the Rom of your choice... ( I say boot straight into recovery because I don't know how you rooted your phone and Samsung has a script that reinstalls the stock recovery when you reboot, so make sure you have a rim downloaded and ready to go before installing the recovery)

Nice! Thanks so much for ur help!
- i apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, its driving me nuts.
I downloaded the stable cm10.1.0 RC1 ROM and the zip file only had 3 files (META-INF, system, and boot(.iso) )
My question is, how does one flash this using odin? Just wanted to make sure, i dont want to brick my phone.
dont unzip it. it wont flash in odin. you must be rooted and have a custom recovery (twrp or cwm) installed.
check out the link in my signature.

Haha i thought it had to be flashed with CWM.
Thanks alot!
Brand new SGH-T989. Using CWM 6.0.4.3 (via ODIN 3.07 - recovery screen reads "CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.6") and CWM-SU-v0.99. Tried to flash the following ROMS (all 4.4) multiple times and all aborted:
BeanStalk-4.4.2_r1-v205-Linaro-20131216-hercules
cm-11-20140214-Linaro-hercules
Hellkat-20140209-hercules
pa_hercules-4.0-BETA5-20140210
No other ROMS on my internal SD to try and now phone boot loops. Not sure what else to try. Can I restore stock via ODIN? Try a JB ROM (how do I copy it to SD?) Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Fasted. Was able to unroot to 4.0.3 stock. Any thoughts on where I went wrong? Problem specific to KitKat ROMs? Do you have a stable ROM you like?
Again, many thanks to you and Alphadog.
I think kk roms use twrp 2.6.1.0 or cwm 6.0.3.7, as far as roms, you just have to try them and see what you prefer or read user comments. On here we don't give recommendations because all the developers put in a lot of time and effort. Happy flashing!
