I have this problem also. It's an international N7100, sim free. I found that after flashing and when it boots the screen flashes random lines etc. then goes blank but the ROM does boot, you have to be sure to turn the screen off and back on. It's quite annoying!
I hadn't realised it was just AOSP ROMs - Omega 11 and CapModN2 I tried recently were fine...
I also couldn't get into CWM recovery after flashing AOSPs unless I installed TWRP after booting.
Would be great to know what's going on - almost seems like the display is not initialised properly.

Also have the same problem. Tried cm 10.1 and no boot animation... but it boots up and work normal

I don't know what kernels are included in these roms, but if I remember correctly, the kernel has to support custom bootanimations, otherwise it won't show any. But I'm not sure about this...
Anyway here is a thread about how to add custom bootanimation to ANY rom...
same thing
i have same problem... just weird lines flashing across the ( samsung galaxy note 2 gt n7100) screen... it is reallly annoying...

custom boot animation doesnt fix anything, i tried it...kernels also have nothing to do with this since i tried flashing several and still had same problem...i flashed the same rom(cm 10.1) to my friends phone... it worked normally...something is messed up with system files!! dont know what...
I have the same exact problem. I tried to install custom boot animation but it is always the same the screen flickers and then stays black till a while.
Had the same problem.Tried to install cm 10.1 gapps and Thor Kernel 0.15 LSI ..... cm 10.1 booted normal with bootanimation and worked great. Anyway returned to Stock .

My N7105 Hong Kong version does the exact same thing. Flickering boot animation when it starts up and then appear and then it goes dark till it boots all the way.
I had this with AOSP roms. I found the way to fix it was with NEAK 1.7.x kernel. Make sure you get the AOSP one for obvious reasons.

There is no need to modify kernel to boot up cm10.1 normally with boot animation.
Solved installing Philz Recovery. Cm10.1 now installs and boots normally without any kernel modification .
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
thanks for the tips, I too found Philz Recovery allows the animation/recovery to load correctly - would still be nice to understand why it doesn't work with CWM based recovery... although right now I'm very happy with CaponMod and the Perseus kernel

So this is kind of a unique issue i'm having. I have the I-747 on AT&T and flashed AOKP rom (it was taking too long to get JB). It worked for about 3 days and then got stuck in the android boot screen (used the rom feature to get rid of the pink unicorns). after that, I booted into recovery and reset my phone, and it worked again for a few more days, then it wouldnt boot again (I dont believe I changed any settings between the boots). After this time, it wouldnt let me boot into recovery and would only boot to the android start screen and stop. I used odin to flash the stock rom, which only took me to the 2nd samsung boot screen and stopped (after the AT&T splash shows up). I looked online and saw someone say try CF-root using odin, tried that and it didnt help. Then tried using a custom kernel siyah s3, and now it will only show the initial samsung splash screen before turning off again. Any suggestions here? I figured I'd stop researching since i dont want to really mess up my phone worse than it already is

Thanks guys! So I used odin to flash the stock boot loader and stock rom, but it is still hanging up on the 2nd samsung screen like it initially did (the one after the AT&T boot animation). Any other ideas on what could be the cause?
How long is the hang? Sure is just not the 1st initial boot of the new rom?

The first boot can take as long as 5 minutes sometimes. So, if you haven't waited that long, then try out some patience. Otherwise, try booting into recovery (stock now) and factory reset.

I have this same issue. I have restored to stock rom and it does the Samsung boot, then AT&T, then it goes to Samsung pulsating with a blue pulsating LED.

I dont know if this is relevant, but while the phone is off and plugged in, i can still see the battery meter and the Green LED (so i'm guessing it's still working, it just wont boot)

jbizz, did you start getting this error after flashing AOKP rom also? trying to figure out what could have caused the issue in the first place
I'm not really skilled on these things, but I once had a similar issue with my phone not booting and had to end up using Kies to emergency restore it. Odin wouldn't recognize my phone but kies would.
Although I think my issue with odin may be stemming from my computers usb ports...

Sure, I'm doing this largely from memory since I mostly figured it out by throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.
Open Kies->tools->firmware upgrade and initialization->enter model name then serial number (they're behind the battery) -> put the phone in download mode and plug it in. it should take care of the rest.
Fair warning, this will fully wipe your phone, i lost all my pics (thank you google+'s instant upload or i'd be PISSED) and titanium backup (there goes my 3 stars on every level in angry birds and great scores in temple run), but at least you get a phone that can function as more than a paper weight, right?

I've searched relentlessly for a solution to this, but I haven't come up with anything, so it's time to ask for help.
I just used mskip's Galaxy S3 QCOM Toolkit v2.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682) to flash CWM and root my GSIII. The recovery flashed successfully, using "recovery-cwm-lte-sgs3-v5.tar" included with the toolkit.
CWM recovery works. However, when I tried to boot the phone, I got the first Samsung splash screen, then the screen turned black, a second later the boot tune played (with no splash screen showing), and then... nothing. The blue notification light blinks infinitely, and the phone is unresponsive except for holding the power button down for 10 seconds, which restarts it, and the same thing happens again.
I can boot into CWM recovery, as well as download mode. I tried wiping the cache and doing a factory reset, which changed nothing. However, when I tried to flash a stock ROM (again using the toolkit), I got an "unsupport dev_type" error. I presume that USB debugging has been defaulted to disabled now from this, but maybe I'm wrong. In any case, I'm not sure where to go from here. I don't want to claim that I've bricked it yet, when I have both recovery and download, but I don't know what to do now.
Help?
EDIT: I'm sorry, I forgot basic information : I'm using a SGH-T999 (T-Mobile GSIII).

Hi!
Firstly,
I'm using Phoenix ROM V4 with Symplistic Framwork full version.
Stock Kernel (I don't realy remenber, maybe Perseus Kernel)
CWM recovery modified by PhilZ
So, everything worked fine, but I have installed the LKCustomBatteryTemplate - Sphere.apk that legendk95 send me, after I wanted to flash the new symplistic Framwork, so I rebooted into recovery mode and since my note2 stay on the bootloader "Samsung GALAXY Note II GT-N7100" logo.
I can't go into the recovery but I have the access for the download mode.
I have read others threads about my problem, it can be a SDS issue but the red led don't blink. So I don't know what's happend :/
I haven't the USB cable with me for the moment, so i can't use Odin or fastboot.
How can I boot my phone normaly?
Thanks for read this thread =)
PS : Sorry for my bad english
Where you able to go into recovery?
What rom where you on ?
And sry without data cable it seems to be helpless.
You really need to arrange one.
Since red light doesn't blink its hard to say it's a sds issue.

I can't go into recovery!
I'm using Phoenix ROM V4 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060389
I'm not at home, but to night I will have a USB cable! So I will try to re-install CWM recovery and flash the Phoenix ROM V5 or V6.
If still don't work, I will install a full stock firmware!
The red light blinks just when I boot the phone!
Thanks !!
What rom were you on ?
Looks like sds cuz it blinks as you turn on the phone.
I have been praying everyone to update.
Every member I come across. But no.
Now I can confirm it's sds and you can return your phone for warranty and see what happens.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I don't understand your question : What rom were you on ?
Because I answered Phoenix ROM V4 but you ask me again
I wanted to update but I haven't had time
I have took a break warranty without Samsung so it isn't a problem for me!
But I have questions, How a SDS issue can arrive ?? And How can I prevent that?
And I come back with my iPhone 4S if I must send my GN2 :crying:
Thanks!!
Did you ever flash the stock dll7 or a newer rom ?
Because you may be on the verge of a problem.
Phoenix v4 was based on ubdll3 which is supposed to contain patch for sds.
Phoenix rom would not patch bootloader maybe that's the issue.
By god....

Now can I flash the last Phoenix ROM ?? What kernel can I choose??
Can I flash new recovery??
Thanks!
Lol man.
Flash twrp or whatever recovery you like.
I always recommend twrp due to better or rather just gui.
It's your choice though.
You can flash normally. But try using latest version.
Kernel is again a choice. I would recommend perseus as it is more frequently updated and andrielux has a better rep but again red pill isn't bad either nor is neak but note2core is out of date so I wouldn't recommend it.
If it gets updated then again it's up to you
Thanks man!!
I will do that tonight =)

So, I have a brand new international Galaxy Note II. I thought I'd root the device, and so I powered up Odin, and downloaded the necessary files, and rooted the device.
The phone reboots into the OS just fine, and the phone has been rooted, but now when I try to access the recovery, the screen flips out for a bit, and everything goes black. I've tried different recoveries since then (TWRP, CWM Touch) but nothing seems to work, and all I get is a black screen.
Now as you can imagine, this is a bit difficult if I am interested in loading custom ROMs into the device, so... anyone have any clue what's going on? CWM loads fine, I know that though. Pressing the home button reboots the device (first option in CWM after all)

How:
I tried rebooting my phone a few times and I think on my fourth try I was able to boot into Paranoid Android.
Thanks anyway tangosierra!
BTW putting a CM mod auto roots your phone
Edit:
I backed up my phone through CWM and this problem is again nagging me. It seems each time you install/backup/update through CWM you have to restart your phone a few times.
Edit 2:
That is definitely not it. Even on a regular restart this is happening... I hope this bug gets fixed soon.
Edit 3:
This only happens on restart not shutdown and then start.
