Galaxy Note 2 Best Cover/Case ?? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Theres a thread on xda, Galaxy Note 2 Best Screen Protector?? and i thought i'll make one for Note 2 Best Cover/case
I am personally using this std case/cover http://www.samsungdirect.com/uk/products/accessories/mobile-devices/cases-2/samsung/2261 (i am not shure if it's black or very dark blue, but matches the colour of my note 2) It's not covering, protecting the edges of my phone where my copter screen protection does not protect,so theres a gap between the case, cover and my screen protection, any way it's okay and give me a bit better grip, that think is a problem using a galaxy (also have an sgs 3)
What do you think is the best Note 2 Cover/case?

All due respect, but not sure how helpful this is? What is best for one person is useless to another as everyone's needs differ as well as pure personal preference. There are lots of reviews and threads about lots of different cases on this site and others, and each user will just have to make up their own mind based on whatever priorities that drive them (and sometimes take a chance on a product). Same with 'what is the best ROM'.....
Just my $0.02 worth.

I believe that the point of this thread is to start a discussion of what people think are the best case.
When people discuss what they think is best then sometimes we learn something new.

There's tons of these threads in the note 2 accessories forum. Look there.

GSM Galaxy Nexus going on eBay - Galaxy Note en route

I've thoroughly enjoyed my short ownership of this device, but after the OMG nature of ICS wore off, it's really just an average phone.
I've ordered a Galaxy Note and will be here Monday. Despite touchwiz, slow updates, blabla, the Note just seems like an incredible device that can finally allow me to leave my laptop behind.
Not trolling, just posting as others may find interest in the Note once the newness of the Nexus wears off.
If you are interested in buying direct, PM me. I will be very fair on the price if it's done outside of eBay's ridiculous fees. Steinheil protector + spare, case and absolutely mint with everything.
No, this isn't an ad for my phone. It's jut a post that's intended to generate discussion on the comparison.
To be honest I would have purchased a note also, but it won't work with T-Mobile 3g. I love my nexus though, and the development on here will make it truely remarkable

I came from a note and got the nexus and I don't regret returning the note at all. The note had very bad color banding or at least mine did. Also videos were horrible due to a halo effect that would show up in a white background. I hope it was just my unit but it seems like many were having the same issue as I did. The only thing I liked much more about the note was the battery life. Would last me sometimes 3 days! Nexus doesn't even come close...

i just did the opposite! i bought a gsm note to use on ATT but it had several issues. had problems with the capacitive touch buttons not working after phone calls. the phone would also shut it self off randomly. i returned it because of those problems. if it wasnt for that it was a really cool phone. the extra screen real estate was nice for games and web sites.
I'm not saying this because I have a Nexus, but I find it hard to understand how you find it just an average phone. The camera is about the only average thing about it, everything else runs so well in ICS which makes the experience as a whole so much more coherent.
The only thing I'd really wish for at the moment would be an LTE version for GSM carriers.

Yeah, I considered that, but ATT will drop the legendary Exoynos processor because it isn't compatible with LTE.
That and who knows how ATT will handle grandfathered unlimited plans that try to go to LTE. I simply don't trust them to let me keep it.
6mbps is plenty fast since I don't tether.
to each their own but please list a few phones that you consider above average

Hello better phone with ICS in the pipeline? Wacom digitizer and all.
Different strokes, I guess. I've owned the Nexus One, Nexus S, SGSII, EVO. Pure google, while nice, ends up being modded to hell anyway by most, so it's not an issue for me personally. I don't like touchwiz, but that's fixable with launchers.
If the Note was going to be on Verizon I would have thought about it. If it gets a CM9 port then it could be a killer phone. My brother-in-law imported one for his AT&T line and I got to play with it. VERYYY NICE.

I have nothing to prove to anyone. Just think the 2500 mAh battery, wacom digitizer and real-estate of the Note are worthy advantages.
Not going to launch into an I'VE FOUND THE JESUS PHONE debate. Most all modern phones are pretty close in performance/features anyway.
Just my preference. The Nexus is a great device, but not the absolute best ever. If it didn't have ICS, this forum would be lit up with endless *****ing.

You shouldn't need to make a thread to justify your decision. Cool, you're going to the Galaxy Note, good luck. The Galaxy Nexus forum will continue the way it is without you.
If you didn't want a debate about Galaxy Nexus vs. Galaxy Note, then just post up your ad in the marketplace and be on your way. Simple as that.
This is a thread for discussion, not spam.
It's basically sold already, but thanks for the slap.
By the way, its not an ad. I simply mentioned it's available if anyone was interested, which several are so far.
An ad is a thread with the sole purpose of selling an item. This thread is not. Feel free to add to the discussion.
What are your thoughts on the Note vs. the Nexus?
Ok, so I feel that I've ruffled feathers. Will a mod please move this to the for sale forum so I can be a good senior member like I have been since 2006?
That way, XDA homeostasis is reached for all.
Thanks.
There are rumors that the Note is coming to ATT early next year with LTE. Nice, right? Except there is one problem...
They are replacing the Exynos with a Snapdragon S3.
They also had to do this with the Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile because the Exynos chipset apparently has problems playing nicely with high speed networks such as LTE and T-Mobiles 42 Mbps HSPA+ network.
Will make it exceptionally difficult to dev for. And since it's basically a different device with a different SoC, kiss frequent and timely updates goodbye.
If the Note appeals to you, go for it. Just saying, aside from the bigger screen, a S3-verison Note doesn't seem to have any huge advantage over the Nexus.
I've had both. The note is a great device, but IMO the GN is better overall.
I would of gotten a Note instead if it supported t-mobile, sigh.
I'm hoping by the time Note II comes out, samsung will have resolved the shortcomings of exynos' radios as well as samoled+ HD. I will jump all over that.

But honestly? I've been tempted myself. The Note have NFC?
dont you think that note is jut too big? i never got note in my hands, but by comparassions videos on youtube (everything vs note) i get a little scared about how big it is...
also, why do you guys need so fast network for a phone?! 6mb is not good enough? what are you doing that need so high speed? video calling?!

This argument is so old.
People on sprint/verizon don't get 6mbps. It's 1mbps or 4G, which do you think people would obviously prefer (barring battery issues)

Can reviews be even trusted anymore?

99% of the galaxy nexus reviews say the screen is the best screen ever. After using the phone and reading the opinion of people over here and other forums it's obvious that it is far from being as good as was made out to be.
So what is it? Reviewers got carried away with the title "SAMOLED HD" or they were just given some different phones with magical screens??
As far as I am concerned the galaxy S2 has a better screen and from what some people are saying even the HTC one S might have a better screen due to it being free from the impurities that ruin the image on the nexus screen.
I had a rezound for the like 5 months and I have to say the screen was much better as far as I'm concerned. Nexus has great colors, but I can more easily see pixels.
But.... How good does it really need to be? I mean come on, it looks great.

It's all a matter of opinion. Buying the "best" Android phone has become far too subjective now since we have so many options when it comes to purchasing a phone.
Best advice? Don't read or watch reviews. Just go to the store and feel the phone out for yourself to make your decision.
As for me, I love SAMOLED HD. Is the One X's screen better? Maybe, but I don't care too much to let it bother me. I enjoy what I have.

Didn't you make another thread comparing the Nexus S screen with Galaxy Nexus? You also admitted you don't own a Galaxy Nexus (unless you bought one recently).
Just go see it in person and decide for yourself. I have no issues with my Galaxy Nexus and I am loving this phone. I have around 2-2.5 hours of screen usage daily and I've never felt this screen is flawed.
Making several threads on the same thing seems silly to me especially if you don't own the product and are out to just bash it.

My gf owned the S2. It looked cool too, but didn't like the resolution. It really should have been 720p. So for that reason, I like the GN's screen better. Even though it's pentile.

Well from what you're saying, seems like you really don't like the screen for personal reasons. So with that I suggest to not buy it. No point in buying a device that you're not fond of.
Galaxy S II has better screen then Galaxy Nexus?! Dude, you don't need any screens at all because you are completely blind.
I owned two SGS2's made in different countries and with slightly different displays, bot none of them was even close go GNex.
What is the point of this thread?
If you used the phone and do not like the screen then just move on if that is the most important thing to you. No ones opinion is better then your own to yourself.
You don't even own the phone? Gtfo and get it, or sit quietly in your chair.

Yeah, this can definitely be argued because I have seen an equal amount of screen complaints with defective ones on GSM and LTE models.
Perhaps reviewers only used the phone at high brightness values. I, on the other hand usually use screen anywhere below 50% level and can see the "defects" easy.
and yes, One S screen does look better. At one time I had 2 One S and 2 Gnex phones in hand and compared them. At lowest brightness level both phones have horrible grain, but One S has much less of it. Move the brightness up one click in One S and all or most grain is gone, in Nexus grain is visible even at 50-60%, at close to 100% screen looks very good. The good thing is that with custom ROM you can adjust Auto Brightness and sort of "fix" the problem a bit
But I kept Nexus because of great ROMs. 720p is also real nice over qHD in One S.
I think grain is not a defect in Nexus, its just a poor quality screen, everything else like pink, banding, burn-in, etc are all defects. My Nexus doesnt have those issues, but other 4 Nexus phones I've seen all had them.

Hah. Nice. So the Galaxy S4 might be released as soon as Februrary 2013 with the following rumored features (from the article):
1) A 5" SAMOLED display which may or may not be the new flexible tech. (Getting into Note territory here...)
2) Will have a quad-core exynos or qualcomm cpu
3) The design may be different for each US carrier again (bummer)
And I loved this quote :
The S4 will see some external changes but retain its popular rectangular shape with rounded corner concept,’’ said an official from one of Samsung’s local partners.

hmmmmmmmm....... I'm waiting to see what HTC would come up... Some of their designs badly need a successor... say, the HTC Desire Z, it was the last phone they made with a keyboard.... and that was about 3 years ago already.... I'm quite a fan of phones with keyboards, so I'm also gonna be interested what Samsung would put out witha keyboard... Now that I'm on the samsung bandwagon, I'm quite inclined to get a samsung phone...
but yeah, nice to see the S4 is already under development... but I'm afraid 5" of screen is too big for me already... The S3 is on a sweet spot on it's size, still fairly big for me, but does have some advantages. Meanwhile, the Note, when I saw it... it looked amazing... but simply, the screen was too big.... so I skipped it and here came the S3

I'm holding out for the Note 5... or maybe the S6. I just can't decide.
I realize this is a totally subjective topic, but if the 5" screen size rumor holds true, this would suck moose junk in my opinion, unless the plan is to decrease bezel of current sized S3 handset to accomodate more screen.
I sold the Note to move to the S3 specifically because that phone was freakishly and totally unnecessarily gargantuan, so I hate to think that Samsung is moving that direction with the S4 also.
Again, my hope is that they bring the screen out further toward the edges on the same size handset as the S3 currently is, but if not, I think it's HTC time for me, come next Sept when I'm for upgrade.

Agreed, I was hesitant to go to the S3 because 4.8 sounded too big as my kid had a infuse 4g at 4.5...but they figured out how to make the 4.8 the same size basically as the infuse so hopefully they do this again as I just dont think I can go bigger than the S3. I would look for this to be out in June/July just like this year. I will be halfway through my contract so it wont matter much to me...

Then use bluetooth, or a headset, or speakerphone, and if you don't want to, why care what other people think for fraction of time that you hold it up to your ear? 99% of the time we're using our phones as computers, so the larger the screen the better. I don't want a big ass phone. I'm only 5'3 and my hands are far from being the largest. If the phone was any larger then I'd have trouble holding it properly. I also just don't like the look of the larger phones. When I see the note I think to myself it is ugly because it is so big.
People other than me may find the larger size more welcome or be indifferent, I just don't want the phone to get any larger.
Can't wait till we start rockin 25 inch phones. That will awesome! Can't wait for 2023!!

[Q] Question for current Galaxy Note 2 owners..

Thinking of getting a Note 2 here in Dubai, just a quick question for people who have a Note 2 or Note 1.. do you get used to the huge size? How long did it take you to stop thinking "damn, that phone is big!" I've played around with the Note 2 and love the screen but have trouble imagining myself using it everyday, but I'm hoping it could grow on me (pun intended)
I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus if that helps, anyone else made the same transition?
I used Galaxy S1>Galaxy S2>Galaxy s3 and Now Note 2. 5.5 is not a very huge design. Honestly it fits perfectly in my hand and pocket just like Galaxy s3. I can easily operate it with my 1 hand too and my hands are NORMAL. Even if you have small hands or small pockets, you will get used to it within a couple of days. Grab it man , its just Awesomeeee
Have come from a G2, which is way smaller but haven't found it too hard to switch. Have to use two hands for browsing and stuff but it's worth it for the media experience.
If you use your phone mainly as a phone, the Note isn't for you. If you use it more for Internet and media, go for it. You won't regret.

I too am coming from a GNexus and the GN2, to me, feels better in my hand. This is gonna sound funny but I used the GNexus for about a year and it progressively felt like it was too small. haha! I prefer texting and writing emails with both hands so the GN2 obviously gives me more real estate to make that more comfortable for me.
The problem I have now is deciding what I want to read my books and Flipboard articles with...my N7 or my GN2...
Damn I hate you guys! You just made me order a Note 2 32GB which is arriving tonight Now I have to get my SIM cut quickly!
EDIT: Spoke too soon.. they're "out of stock" on the 32GB, got the 16GB instead+ 64GB MicroSD
It is more of a question of 'how did i ever use something so small?' when you pick up your old phone after using the note for a week.

it really surprised me a ton as I was dead set on getting the 2gb s3 lte but changed to note 2 at last second at the store counter ... I was pretty much sure I won't get used to the huge size but subtle changes in dimension from note 1 to 2 made a world's difference in handling...

It is more of a question of 'how did i ever use something so small?' when you pick up your old phone after using the note for a week.

When I was using my GNexus for months people were asking how I could possibly like using a phone so huge. Most of them are iPhone users minus a few that have seen the light that is Android. I seriously don't know how people can be very productive with anything smaller than 4.7" screen. Blows my mind now

How long did it take you to stop thinking "damn, that phone is big!"
I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus if that helps, anyone else made the same transition?

Not long at all. I always wanted a bigger phone, and most importantly - I realized right away that I shouldn't bother trying to use it one handed.

Now that I got the phone, I wholeheartedly agree with every one of your comments
This screen alone is worth the purchase, let alone the beastly specs and monster battery! Thank you all for convincing me.

In also planning on getting one! The size was the main thing kind of holding me back but this thread definetly helps

Too big? Nope nope nope. Got used to it immediately, mainly because it looked soooo much bigger in all the videos i watched.
Once i actually saw the box it came in i was like, wow! Thats perfect. So watch all the videos you can BEFORE and it won't seem too big at all...problem solved : )
I love this phone sooooooo much, it has inspired me to invent a new word: This phone is, "unputdownable.".. get Webster's on the line...lol
Not big. At all.
GNexus feels now like smth way to small.
Only one thing that annoys me, that battery cover is kinda slippery.

S3 to Note 2?

My father is thinking about upgrading from the Note 2 to the Note 3 when it comes out later this year. Should I drop my S3 and take his Note 2?

thats up to you... personal preferences man... do you like the bigger screen? if so go for it.
I have been thinking about this as well since I'm about to switch carriers. I have a friend who made the swap and he hasn't looked back since. It just depends on preference more than anything since it is a much bigger phone.

I really like the larger screen, but I have smaller hands so it's a toss up...
I think the Note2's screen will be better because I'm looking to get into programming, so it should be easier to see and read everything...

From the aspect of what I plan on doing, the larger screen would be great, but I'm more concerned about the hardware such as processor and such...
I would simply search YouTube on Note 2 vs S3. I'm sure you'll find tons of info there.

First things first. This should be in posted in Q / A .
That being said, the NOTE2 is a bit to bulky to fit in a pockect. So I would stick with the S3. But that's just my 2 cents.

I would just try it for a couple weeks. Only thing that will stop you from keeping it is the size of the phone. Other than that it's a great update and a matter of preference.

Well if the bigger screen helps you, go for it. I understand if it's a bit too bulky to fit in your pocket, though. Might I suggest investing in cargo pants/shorts? And if you're worried about specs, the Note 2 has better specs as it is.

Honestly, at this point in the mobile market, I don't see any reason for comparing phone specs. Very few users even use their phones to do more than calling and texting, and of those that go beyond that, even fewer actually push the limits of these phones.
Nowadays people run towards the "newest" and "best" hardware, but when they actually get their phones they hardly even tap the surface of its potential.

I also agree with that, but he was the one concerned with hardware. But hey, whatever floats your boat. It wont be worth having phones with super high specifications until they can start doing everything desktops and laptops can do just as efficiently.
