Just root don't install custom room

Yes you can install if you ONLY root the rom. Make sure you flash back the stock recovery after performing the root with the custom recovery !

I have rooted phone HTC Disare and when come out official update 2.3 , can i update it , i now lost my root but phone be working correctly ?
You mentioned you lost your root?
might be a safe bet to install the RUU if you want the official and are rooted...?
or install a custom rom version of it
I know that I'd lose my root when I install official update 2.3 but phone be working correctly any brick ?
I guess there's always a chance.
if you want to install an official rom on top of a rooted/custom rom then I'd guess RUU is the safest way
I want to unlock, root and busybox my HOX will i still be able to get OTA updates?
Instructions on how to root etc can be found here
You could, flash custom recovery, flash su.zip to enable root access on Stock ROM, then flash stock recovery, you will still receive OTA updates but you will probably lose your ROOT if you updated.
Any Reason you want to stay with Stock ROM?
I came from HD2 so im used to custom roms, but its kind of nice to have everytihng working fine from stock, and updates from HTC, it also seems nore relayable, but i miss the root access.

I have stock ROM installed and stock recovery and I want to keep that way.
So my questions is, is it possible to root my device while keeping everything stock and get OTA updates without problems.
The only thing I need rooting for is to use Market Enabler.
You need to flash a custom recovery to root your phone but that won't enable your phone to get OTA udates (only notification), so when you get an update notification you have to reflash your stock recovery and unroot your phone to apply OTA updates.

If you wanted to unroot and so flash a stock recovery, how would you know which one to use? Is there a set recovery for each version of the phone, or is it the software version? So you'd just get the latest version you can find? For the phone of course. Thanks.

A dev just release exploit based rooting method, you might wanna to try it since you wish to keep stock recovery.
However, you might loose root access after OTA as they always patch the root access back. Simply use some root keeper or method from above(if working) to gain back root access.
UPDATES: seems we have solid devices, LINK. You may try it, though.
Hi, small question.
I have an bootloader unlocked international HTC One M8.
I want to keep the stock ROM and Recovery as I want to be able to install the latest updates.
Is there a way to Root it without having to flash another ROM and Recovery?

yes, install custom recovery, install superSU, then flash stock recovery.
I keep the custom recovery, and then if an update come out, you can flash the stock recovery.

Yes, actually, you can even upgrade to Lollipop even if SuperSu is installed (If you had flashed a recovery, you need replace it to stock one by flashing the stock recovery again, since Google may flash the OTA via stock recovery).
And yes, if you want to make sure not to have any issues with android L, you can uninstall SuperSu.
(Remember to uninstall frameworks like Xposed or BusyBox if installed before upgrading.)
Cheers!
