Hello, I am a very new user to android and I have done a lot of reading about rooting phone and flashing roms, but I am still confused and if someone can help shed some light for me then I will really appreciate it. Scott has replied to my question about not having multiview then flashing this rom(CleanROM ACE version 4.0.5) will give me multiview with being able to add/remove apps for multiview. I did not do anything yet because I am afraid to brick my phone or afraid I do not like what the rom will do to my phone, so I am asking questions ahead of time. I have a lot of questions. PLEASE guide this lost noob.
1. After I root my phone(CWM) then do I have to install TRWP? I am confused. Can I root my phone then flash CleanROM right away? Or do I have to root then change (CWM) to TRWP then flash CleanROM.
2. Does TRWP have the original samsung galaxy note 2 keyboard layout(have multi language support like the stock version and swype)? I am afraid I will lose the original samsung keyboard layout of note 2 and I hate the look of galaxy nexus or gingerbread keyboard.
3. Can I still download wallpapers from google playstore and install the apk file for the wallpaper after doing this mod with the CleanROM?
4.(Final question three questions) I should use titanium backup or nandroid backup after rooting? Can I revert back to the stockrom with titanium backup or nandroid backup? Will I still be able to receive updates from my carrier(Rogers)?
Please help me.
Just following the guide you should be fine.
1. You need to root the phone in order to have the TWRP install.
2. Download GooManager from the Play store.
3. in GooManager Once installed click the menu and select "Install OpenRecovery Script".
4. Download any custom rom and flash it in the TWRP "Following install instruction"
Use the ref here you be safe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987541

titanium backup is for mainly Apps not for system backup.
To have your orginal stockrom use the nandroid backup is best choice "TWRP is the one for nandroid backup"
Thanks for response, but what about keyboard?
Will the keyboard layout change? Will I still have stock keyboard layout? Thanks for the reply. :good:

Is your phone rooted ? If so, then it's easy, use TitaniumBackup to backup all your apps.
If you don't have permanent root (i.e. by using the HTCdev bootloader unlock tool and then rooting, or by using the XTC Clip device and rooting), then you can get temporary root and still do the backup/restore that way. Just with temp root you will have to re-do the rooting after a reboot.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Easiest way is to use CLockwork Mod and create a nandroid of your current Rom, then when you try other roms and decide to go back to previous Rom, you just use cwm and select restore.
Also use Titanium Backup as suggested earlier.

Hello all Im having a bit of trouble understanding a bit of the lingo here.
is making a recovery simply a backup? everytime I read about backups its just to help them install a custom rom.
I would like to make a back-up [if that's all it is] but I dont want a custom rom I just want a simple back-up,
I have rooted my phone via "FireChain's CF-Auto Root" method. Whats the most reliable way to back up?
can I not simply re-root my phone instead as backing up? or reset it?
Thanks for any help.:good:

You're next step will be to install a custom recovery like CWM and you can get it from the market one you've downloaded the you will open the app and follow the prompts to flash the recovery after that's done then you can backup your rom

ClockworkMod is a custom recovery.
You install it with Rom Manager. Then you can make a backup directly in clockwork or using the Rom Manager menu

Im not sure I have the proper backup program installed
is it the CWM backup manager? or something else?
there I only have 2 options either to pull or push backups both of which I have no idea what they do.
Do you have Rom manager installed?

What you have is just the app to help you manage backup and restore in CWM recovery, it does nothing as far as making a backup. You will need a custom recovery in place your stock recovery.
A nandroid backup take a "snapshot" of your current ROM and data.
When you restore it, it will restore your phone exactly to the point when you made the nand backup.
There's a few ways to install a custom recovery.
-Through ROM manager (CWM).
-Through Goo Manager (TWRP).
-Using Odin to flash a recovery.
-Flash a new reocvery with an existing custom recovery.
Easiest thing right now if you already have ROM manager is to use that to flash CWM recovery.
Boot into recovery to do nandroid backup or use ROM manager.
The other backup is apps and/or data backup with Titanium Backup or similar.
This tyoe of backup save a copy of your current app plus the data that is associated with that app.
do you mind linking me to a tutorial that I can follow
preferably the most reliable way
Ive heard some bad things about clockwork but its fine if its the most reliable for this phone

I don't really know of any links but a few questions for you. I can link you to some threads once you answer these questions
1-Are you rooted?
2-What recovery do you want to use? Official CWM, TWRP. or Philz touch version of CWM?
3-Do you have Odin set up and working?
1-Are you rooted?
Yes
2-What recovery do you want to use? Official CWM, TWRP. or Philz touch version of CWM?
Im not sure which, but I just want one that is most reliable if all are equal then the simplest one will do
I will take your word on it :cyclops:
3-Do you have Odin set up and working?
yes I do version 3.07
sry for the late response

-The easiest way is to flash CWM with ROM manager.
1. Download ROM Manager if you haven't
2, Open ROM Manager app
3. Chose the option to install Recovery (Maybe "Recovery Setup" or something like that)
4. Let it do it's thing
5. You should now have CWM recovery if all went correctly
-You could also use Odin to flash a recovery such as
Philz Touch CWM version

What do you mean by mistake? If you want to do a nandroid backup you need a custom recovery. The custom recovery doesn't affect how your ROM work and can do what your stock recvoery does plus more.
Anyhow if you want to go back to stock recovery you'll need to Odin back to stock and re-root your phone.
You can get the stock tar file here to use with ODIN here.

So all I have to do is root my phone again and itll get rid of my CWM and go back to normal?
im not sure what the feature is called but its when you hover your finger over the display and it shows more options
when I did that and booted into recovery it started going crazy for some reason, now it wiggles without me touching it
or even having my hant anywhere near it.

No you'll have to flash the stock ROM using ODIN. That will get rid of CWM and you'll have a stock recovery. After that is done you can root your phone again.
Have you tried just clearing cache and dalvik cache in recovery to solve the problem you're having with the "wiggle" thing?
I will try that right now
is there a specific tutorial I have to follow to go back to stock? I used chainfire's way to root my phone.

Just use a file manager and go to the CWM folder and delete the backup, you could delete the CWM folder itself if you have no plan of using it again.
After messing up my Email app, and resorting to flashing the Stock ROM and now reinstalling all of my apps and games again, I'd really like to create a Backup ROM for myself, should things mess up again down the road.
How do I go about making a complete Backup for my G3? I think I'd prefer it be a full ROM backup, so I don't have to reconfigure anything at. Keeping my settings, contacts, games (saves), ringtones, notification setting, etc.
What's the best way to go about doing this?
Thanks in advance.

This makes sense if there's a custom recovery environment available, but my Korean F400L has none yet. I want to install the Xposed framework, however the forums say it's wise to have a Nandroid backup first. Am I stuck in a waiting game until CWM exists for my model G3? Or are the many folks using G3 tweaksbox doing so without a Nandroid?

My phone (Sprint variant) doesn't have an unlocked bootloader yet so I can't make a nandroid either. But I'm comfortable with using Xposed and have a few mods installed, including Tweaksbox. As long as you don't make font changes or change boot animations, you should be fine. Tweaksbox is pretty straightforward and I haven't had any problems with it.

hm - those folks seem nervous to install CWM to a locked bootloader, but I'll monitor the thread and maybe try it out.
I want to try out the SkyDragon Android L ROM, so I decided to make a backup of my phone. I used Online Nandroid Backup and saved the backup to my Internal storage. Can I copy the TWRP folder to my PC and delete the one on my phone to save space? Can I just transfer the backup back to my phone and go into TWRP recovery and just restore the backup when necessary? Any ideas?

You can do this yes. But to avoid any future hassle i would suggest to flash the latest TWRP 2.8.1.0 which has MTP enabled. This way any time you need something from your PC you go to TWRP and just copy/paste to your phone.
Also i would suggest when you copy your backup to PC, to preserve folder names as TWRP needs the specific folder structure to read the backup.

Cool man... Glad to hear you got it rooted. After you get the phone setup how you like it (including Superuser/SuperSU and busybox already installed ), then make a Nandroid backup in CWM. Keep a copy of that backup somewhere safe (like on your external sd card and an additional one on your computer), then you can always restore that Nandroid backup after wiping cache, wiping dalvik, and doing a factory reset in CWM. (Also.... If you mess the phone up really bad when tinkering with it, you can always use Androxyde's Flashtool to restore the phone to Stock.... then root it again /reinstall CWM, and restore that Nandroid backup. I can't tell you how many times I've had to do that when experimenting with different things on the phone).
I don't know of any other way to restore with a Superuser app and busybox already installed.... (other than to flash a ROM/Kernel that already includes these... but you will have to unlock your bootloader-- if not done already-- in order to flash custom kernels).
PS: check out Titanium Backup Pro from the Play Store if you're not familiar with it already... as it's a useful tool to let you backup individual apps and individual app data.

Another way to install CWM Recovery is to use the Xparts app, (also called the CWM Auto Installer)... but you have to use an older version (v.5) for the R800x. If you'd rather use the Xparts app, then go to this thread:
Scroll to the bottom of the first post to find several versions of the app. Download and install ("CWM Installer-v5.apk").... then use the app to install CWM. I've not used this method, but others report that it works.
