It's funny because no matter how long I use my note for throughout the day, I can't seem to use up the battery. Always end up with at least 30% left, even after 6-7 hours of continuous screen on time what a beast

What do you do with yours? I wake up in the morning at 8:30 am, and then I use my tablet for about 10-12 hours and I've never been lower than 50% battery. I use viber constantly for texting, I take notes on it, I play games, watch movies, and listen to music throughout the day, as well as use netflix.

l bought a Rav Power 10000 MA external bat pack over the Christmas and it does NOT charge my note 10.1

[Q] How good is your Galaxy nexus's battery under "intensive" use?

Hi everyone!
After playing a few days with my new Galaxy Nexus, I was quite disappointed with the battery life of my device. It hardly survives a day.
I did a test today, trying to use the device more "intensively" by surfing quite a lot. The screen backlight was on automatic, bluetooth off, sync on, wifi on (although on 2G/3G most of the time this morning), nfc on, gps off.
The battery only lasted 5h30mn with the screen on for approximately 4h30mn.
I've attached 2 screenshots with the stats of the battery.
On a more normal daily use, I use the phone 1h30mn in the morning, check my emails in the day (approx. 30mn) and after work my battery dies after using it for another hour ... And that's when I don't have calls.
How is your galaxy nexus's battery life? Does mine looks normal or should I think about getting my battery replaced?
Cheers,
Laurent
Having the screen on for 4.5hours is pretty good imo, especially considering the size of it. Ive only had mine a few days so hard to tell but I think its matching up to similar battery life as my old Galaxy S..

4.5 hours of screen time is really good. My Desire usually makes me pay attention to charger after 3 hours, certainly after 4 hours. A high definition screen and more processing power Nexus surviving longer than that will mean the upgrade will be easy for me.
I am sorry that the OP is disappointed, but I for one hand predicted even less battery life. This is how battery life is these days with high end phones.

4.5 hrs of screen on time and you're dissatisfied? I'd say that's fairly good battery life for a phone not from the future.
4.5 hours of screen time is very good. I am getting about 3.5 hours on a normal day atm not tried what you have done yet.
Jesus, how did you manage to have the screen on that long lol

Very similar here.
1h in the morning on my commute. Probably another hour during the day, and then again on my way back.
As long as it makes it home to a charger, fine for me.
Although I have just ordered a 5000mAh external USB battery pack for when I'm travelling
Aye, like others are saying, 4.5 hours of screen time is pretty good. The iPhone 4 only gets around the same.
Then again, with intensive browsing and internet usage that's actually *exceptional*. The iPhone couldn't do it.

iPhone 4 easily gets over 4 hour screen time. I got 2 hrs of screen time with 80% battery left.
We should compare to the galaxy s II which was supposedly very good for android
So you're upset that under an absolute stress test, you got ONLY 4.5 hrs?
That's pretty impressive. If not, return the GNEX and get, well, some other phone that will go 24 hrs under a full screen-on load test. Good luck.
Or just wait on generic batteries to hit eBay and buy three for $15 and be done with it.

Good news, that's what I ordered
Can you confirm it can be charged and the same time it charges a device. I.e a single USB mains adaptor would do me if both need charging.
I prefer something like this, because there is no cables at all. IMHO its best to always have one like that in your bag. It has two charging ports, mini and micro usb.
Pretty poor .. but no worse than most Android devices I have owned, I use them intensely: calls, wifi, GPS, wifi analyse, Fing, email, calendar, internet .... so I am never surprised! Just about lasts long enough to hit a charger in the late afternoon, in the car or back at base.

Yeah and it works with everything that has USB charging. It is no different from when you plug your device into a laptop that also runs on battery, etc. It is always great to have for traveling purposes, the only problem is that this item too has 'charge stress', aka you'll end up wanting to keep it charged 'just in case' but rarely using it.
Thanks all for your replies!
Of course I wouldn't use my phone with the screen on for those 4h30 a day. But it would have been good if the battery could handle 2-3h of web surfing, a day of standby with a call or 2. Unfortunately it often doesn't last this long on these conditions.
Apart from that the galaxy is a great phone.

Battery life. OMG!

Took my OGP off the Qi wireless charger at 9:00am at 100% charge. I did not use it at all. Checked email at 11:30am battery said 100%. What? Did not use phone at all, was at a party. Checked email at 5:30pm battery at 97%. Wow. Checked news and some videos. Checked phone again at 8:00pm battery at 92%, played some videos, checked some websites and weather then put phone down. Went to bed at 2am. Went to put phone on wireless charger. Battery was at 82%.
All I did was do the hack to turn off High temperature property and Thermal mitigation daemon. Then I went into the battery setting and turned on Quad Core Control. Screen brightness is set to 100%.
Amazing battery life. Just amazing. My S4 would go to 99% immediately after unplugging from the charger.
Yeah, Baby!
Idle battery life is proven amazing
- 9:30am - Took phone off the charger at checked email and news- 100%
- 11:30am - Looked at phone and checked email at - 100%
- 3:30pm - Looked at phone and checked email - 100%.
- 3:50pm - after watching videos and playing with phone for 20 minutes - 94%.
I'm in shock.

I read several reviews that said "the battery is not that great".... I took my phone off the charger at 6:15am, it's now 11:20am (just over 5 hours) and I'm at 93%. With my S3, I would have been in the lower 80% by now, heck I would have been at about 93% by the time I got to work (40 minute drive). And I've been using it too... 2 push email accounts, several text, 2 or 3 calls, weather updates, ect... Standby time is just really amazing on this phone!
I could easily go almost 2 days with moderate use.... My S3 was ready for a charge in 12 hours with the same amount of use.

Well having this phone for 5 days coming from a GNoteII (alliance rom) and this phones battery doesn't last quite as long. Stand by with all connectivity off isn't nearly as good either. I'm still giving it time and waiting for my external battery charger so I can slow charge it and determine from there.

I was having issues when I first got my OGP with battery brain. Called LG did a soft reset and it improved my Battery life drastically...
Sofy reset=pull battery out while phone is on,leave out for 3-5minutes replace battery. Then run a couple battery cycles... 100% charge down to 15% or so ..my Battery life is great now, oh and give Greenify a look in the play store its a great app for extending battery life.
When the f*ck did we get ice cream??
When I leave for work it's at 100%. I txt a few people and sometimes send out some picture texts. I'm constantly on Google+, Facebook, YouTube, and Flipboard during my breaks, lunch, and whenever else I can sneak off. By the time I leave work my phone is typically around 50 - 70% and once I get in my car I always plug it in to charge. I've noticed it charges faster than my old HTC One X+. Another thing I noticed is when I have it plugged in while using Waze navigation and sometimes the music player, the charge will stay at a constant. It won't go up or down. My HTC One X+ would always drain the battery using Waze even plugged in to the charger at about 10 - 15% per hour. I wasn't a big fan of that and always had me worried if I went on road trips and I drive A LOT. I put almost 30k miles on my VW Passat the first year I got her Overall I'm loving the battery life on my G Pro :good:

Couldn't agree more but I was just stating what I went from. Hopefully the development picks up around here.
I am also coming from a NOTE 2, after owning both I will say that MY battery life is better with this than the note 2 at 100 % screen brightness. 2 days on my last OGP before I Cracked the screen. But I will also say that leaving it on the charger after getting to 100 percent does help with it staying at 100 for a lot longer. this new OGP is shaping up to be the same way. Really great battery while watching video's listen to music stream from Rhapsody and Youtube. I even lost some service due to being on T-Mobile( don't live in a refarmed area) and I still will not go back to the Note 2.
Is this good /bad/ugly?
Frankly expected a bit more
Everything on including mobile data, wifi and screen at 42%
Most use was on mobile data (..70%)

[Q] Battery Life

I'm a bit confused here and hope someone can clear it up for me. Some of the reviews are saying the battery life is under eight hours. However the review from Androidpolice is saying he got 22hrs heavy use and with normal use it could be almost 2 days. Can someone tell me what the battery life is really like?
I suspect the shorter times are referring to performance in a battery run down test where a HD video is put on a loop and played until the device dies.
I have only had mine for 2 days and this is not normal use because of downloads etc... but I believe I'm getting 8-10 hours out of the 2014 edition where I was getting 6-8 hours out of last years Note 10.1. I still have last years model as it is going to ebay soon so I know there is an improvement!
I'm hoping it lasts 9-10 hours at least. Coming from an iPad, I have a feeling the battery life will be one of the worst things about android for me.
I'm getting around 8h. battery life
really enough juice for me
Hello, i am a engineering student and i am very happy about my Battery life.
I Use my P-605 to take notes in the university.
For example, on a day with three lectures.
First Lecture, i use LectureNotes to mark something in the PDF scriptum and write down a few notes.
Second and third, creating a whole Entry which causes that the screen is nearly 95% of the 1,5h Lecture active.
After that, driving home with the bus with listening to music and checking facebook and xda.
The Energy saver made was enabled (because it was implemented for Such reasons) and screen on Auto (+0, +1).
After that day, 70%, not bad, or not?
I used some of the tricks mentioned here in an xda threat to increase the Batterytime.

That's about what I get of screen on time.
At this exact moment I'm on pace for about 9 and a half hours with 2 days on time
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk 4
8-9 hours screen time is what mine gets. This is with a 1 minute time out and 20% brightness. If you use the default 30 second time out and auto brightness, you may be able to squeeze out another hour or so.
Go by screen time and not total uptime. One person's "heavy use" is someone else's "casual". I'll use the Note for 5 or 6 hours straight. That will get me down to 30% or thereabouts. As such, I'll never get 2 days out of it or an iPad.
Playing any type of game, even ones that aren't graphically demanding like clash of clans or plants vs zombies 2 drains the battery very very fast, i could lose 50% in 2-3 hours.
Just about hitting 8 with all the extras disabled and just browsing the web and youtube

I was getting worried as well. Every time I've used it for anything other than movies my battery percentage has dropped like an aerodynamic rock. Browsing, games, magazines, etc. Movies (assuming because of the typically large amount of black pixels) look fantastic and the battery does quite with them, but for everyday consumption it left me concerned.
An hour ago I asked Amazon for an exchange which they did no questions asked. Perhaps round 2 will fare better. If not, I'll shed a tear as I give up this amazing display for another device altogether.

Yes. Lte version as well. I noticed that when he do wifi file transfers and other stuffs. Batt will drain as well.
I want a heads on comparison with his tab but it's hard since we use the tab differently. This is my primary phone while his is for browsing only. Tomorrow. I'll try to transfer s huge file via wifi and see if we'll have the similar percentage of battery drain. I already did the calibration as advised from another thread and it seems to work. A few more charge cycle might do the trick.

Same for me.... It takes forever to fully charge it (10,5 in)
I use a 10.5 LTE and it takes about 5 hours to fully charge. I recommend to switch it off while charging because when it's on you loose about 500mAh (also if the screen is off) and with a 2Ah charger if the battery sees (optimistically) 1.5Ah it takes 5h 20' plus the time required by the slow charge when it reaches 85-90%, so more than 6h.
Anyway I charge it every time I can when it goes under 50%, it's a big battery and needs a special care. Nothing to say about batterylife, excellent.
Most tablets/phones fast charge to 80% and then slow down for the last 20% , so if you don't need a full charge just grab it after it goes past 80% , your battery will live longer as well, as the closer you charge to 100% the more damage is done to your battery, it`s very small but it adds up.
Have a read of the link below, if you want to make the battery in your tablet live longer, if you have the money to easily replace it then don't worry, charge away

If you don't need a fully charged phone in the morning I would recommend not to do so. Try to keep the phone between 30 and 80% and only charge it to full like 2 times a month. What I read that's the best thing for all devices.

With the OnePlus 3 you won't need to charge over night as it'll be charged to 62℅ for 30mins to be precise , I used to charge over night all my. Previous phone but with the OnePlus 3 I just charge it for 25mins or something it'll be charged to 90+% as the previous day's charge would still be about 30 to 40%..

I'm not a battery guru by any means but from my personal experience with cell phones and laptops, it makes very little difference. My old phone was a Galaxy S3 (albeit no quick charge or dash charge), but was charged overnight every night for 5 years. Still on the original battery and lasts a full day with my usage (email sync, facebook, instagram, web browsing, some gaming but not a lot). Off topic, laptop was basically the same deal; actually, was used exclusively plugged in the wall for 3+ years with the battery attached, and when I took it off the charger, still got me through the 3 hours of usage (doesn't seem like a lot but the same hours of usage as if it was brand new).
i dont even charge my phone overnight anymore - just in the car w/ the Dash Car Charger for 15 minutes a day twice a day on weekdays and on weekends with the wall charger ocassionally.
i probably lose 6%-10% overnight, but it's not been an issue, idle drain and SoT are great
in terms of ideal battery health for the long term, you'd probably want to keep it between 10%-90% but you can research this yourself.

Sure but it doesn't charge as quick as the dash charger (wall/car).

Guess they don't make them like they used to? I'm talking about a laptop that is now 8 years old.

Actually for batteries – especially Lithium-Ion ones – this is a good thing.
With new batteries you can make a full cycle every day for 3 years and still have like 70% capacity at the end, as long as you don't go beneth 10% charge regularly.
With moderate usage and and keeping the battery in the 30 - 70% range, you can easily get 5+ years out of your battery.
This works pretty good for me with the OP3. It is just like 15 - 20 minutes of charging every day.

I think OP3 was a good choice for me as well. With my usage patterns, I'm only down to about 50% remaining after 14 hours of use.
Sorry to steal the thread but if charging overnight, is it better for the battery to use the dash charger or a regular slower charger?
I would have thought the quick charge can't be particularly good for the battery?
