Absolutely 4.1.2 , 4.1.2 optimized for GN but 4.2 optimized for N4 .
This time I have 150 app in my GN with 4.1.2 and my device very smooth but with those app in 4.2.1 my device had very lag and had serious problems.

I prefer 4.2.1 on my GNex (toro). But it depends which ROM you install. I generally like XenonHD version of 4.2.1, but wasn't able to come up with a configuration that gave me really good battery life. Also, reading other threads it appears that several other 4.2 1 ROMs still have various issues. I installed Nexus Evolution 3.0 last night and it's been fantastic so far. Super smooth and every bit as slippery fast as CNA 3.8 (4.1.2) had been.... And IMO that is the best 4.1.2 toro ROM out there, and this is with over 130 apps installed.
BTW : I found that Apex Pro beta feels smoother and more responsive on the ROM than Nova does...
Back to your question though... 4.2.1 is great and I wouldn't go back to 4.1.2.

I prefer the stability of 4.1.2 for the way i use my phone. I seem to have better range with 4.2.1 but deal with flaky WiFi, Bluetooth and occasional lag. Battery life seems equal between the two for the way I use my phone. If they fix the radio drivers and smooth out the UI, I would prefer 4.2.x.
Wow. 4.2.1 shouldnt be in a stage like you people say, it reminds me that 4.2.1 is beta, which it isnt. i dunno if 4.2.2 is out yet but it must fix this bugs. also, Google is starting to not care with the GNex anynore because the N4 is out.

I'm still using 4.1.2 because for me it's more fluid. 4.2.1 seems a ROM in beta stage.

4.2.1 works fine for me. No noticeable performance difference than 4.1 and battery life is the same as long as your phone settings and usage remains the same. I use rasbean now but ran stock for about a month, performance is the same, I just prefer the theme (with white settings mod) and features of rasbean.

I've stayed with rooted stock 4.1.2 because I've read a lot of reports of trouble with Bluetooth under 4.2.1, especially when trying to connect to a car stereo. This has included poor sound quality.
Is anyone running stock 4.2.1 that is having solid Bluetooth performance in general and with their car stereo in particular? Also, I depend heavily on Stickmount to mount a flash drive via a USB OTG cable. Has this been working for folks under stock 4.2.1?
4.1.2 because it's more stable and less buggy

i used to run ICS on a stock ROM and it was quite stable. However, after trying some ROM's, I'm facing different problems on different days - sometimes battery just dies overnight, it freezes, chrome takes forever to open up, etc
Can someone recommend the most stable ROM on Jellybean?
Thank you!

You want stable JB ROM? Stick with Stock then. No custom ROM can be more stable or smooth than that. Also stock kernel will go really nice with it. Don't flash any custom ROM or kernel, if customization isn't what you want.

You could get Stock pre-release Jelly Bean ROM here.
Again, if stable and smoothness is what you need and not the customization, go with stock. I know pre-release means that it might be buggy, but from what I heard, it is very stable and feels like a official stable release.
Have a nice day
For sprint stable its tomorrow
I've been using xenon hd for at least 1 month now, and I can honestly say that I have never had a single problem, issue or bug with his rom. I've flashed at least a dozen others since Jb was released (don't want to say the names) and they all have had issues.

What's everyone's opinion on the performance difference between 4.1 and 4.2? So far my benchmark score are a little lower but the phone feels smoother. Of course I'm also drunk. Could be a factor.
Mine stutters a lot after the update, not sure what's causing it.
I don't see 4.2 as any faster, or slower than 4.1.
It was overall smooth from factory image. It's Android Jelly Bean, what do you expect? You can install it your self and find out.

hello, i must confess that i am reading these forums since i bought my first android phone (Desire HD) some years ago. however i have kept myself quiet and now feel it is time to chit chat around. the transition was smooth and everything was going well. It wasn't until i left home and due to a habit i turned on the GPS on it...and voilah...no GPS lock ..even after 5 mins. I restarted the phone hoping it would solve the issue but again no GPS lock. I am well aware that i am not the only one facing this problem so i was hoping some kind soul would guide me towards a fix for this issue? if there is one...
Hi guys
I ask the question because everyone is quick to say how nice the AOSP or OTA ROMs are to start with in the threads posted, but if you fast forward to the latter pages of the thread you start to see what the issues are that have been caused by flashing these early ROMs.
I've gotten Soft Reboots on Stock/OTA odexed and deodexed 4.2 and 4.2.1 ROMs.
Just wondering if I'm alone and if anyone is actually waiting for this to calm down before flashing further?
I'm running JellyBro CM10.1 with the ZenSERIES v9 kernel. I've had no softboots. I've only been on this ROM 24 hours, but I previously typically had at least 1 softboot (graphics engine reset, usually) per 24 hours on CM10 (Android 4.1.2) with ZenSERIES v8.
Frankly, 4.2.1 has been much smoother and more problem-free than 4.1.2, though that might be due to it being my first clean flash in quite a while.
I am currently on stock 4.2.1 and before that on 4.2 stock. Have not experienced any soft reboots.

I have no idea why but when 4.2.2-based ROMs came out, my phone started to run like garbage. Slowdowns, lag, memory leaks, you name it, it happened. And it seemed to have started with 4.2.2. I don't ever remember this being a problem with 4.1.2-based ROMs.
So I ask... has anyone else experienced these issues? Does your phone run like garbage on 4.2.2-based ROMs?
I've been thinking of going back to a 4.1.2-based ROM just to try and get back some of the speed that my phone used to have. There are times I want to throw this thing against the wall because lately trying to get it to do anything without seriously bad lag is like trying to pull teeth.
You people overreact to everything. If its so bad, and you knew it was going to be bad, then why in the world did y'all upgrade to 4.2.2?
Try UDKs ROM, works fine for me
I'm thinking that 4.2.2 may be too heavy for the hardware of the Galaxy Nexus. 4.1.2 never was this slow and laggy on this phone.

Does it not even lag after running it for a few days without reboot? That is the issue many people are seeing and 4.2.2 is smoother than ICS for the most part except the recents may sometimes lag worse on 4.2.2. The worse part of ICS was the unlock lag with auto brightness on.

4.2.2 is running super smooth for me. I dont know what all these people having issues is all about. It all depends on what ROM you use, and also could be the recovery you use. If your using an old recovery, it may not be wiping stuff right before flashing. A lot of factors go into a phone running crappy. Dont blame it all on 4.2.2.

This issue only happens on custom roms because its an issue with stock though maybe less noticeable there.
But as far as the OPs comments, if you're annoyed by 4.2.2 so much then switch back to 4.1.2 if you like it better.

Not really. Try not to reboot your 4.2.2-based rom for 2-3 days and you'll see the real smoothness (Sometimes it take couple of hours sometimes couple of days to reproduce the issue). I've tested 6 roms so far including non-rooted, slimmed stock - Low fps scrolling issue appears on every single one, clean install and always updated twrp recovery.
I think android 4.2.2 is an interesting project and it works not that bad. However there are some annoying bugs there. I don't use WIFi tethering or BT and I know how to deal with scrolling lag so it doesn't bother me that much. I can patiently wait for fix but problems exist and full wipe will not solve them.
my only issue is the battery drain lol thats all

Cm10.1 is not bad indeed (I am running it now and I'm pretty much enjoying it) but 4.1.2 based roms like cna 3.8.0 or cm10 are by far smoother. If you want to see the difference in smoothness go to application drawer (widget tab) and swipe left or right. On every 4.2.2 based rom swiping there is more or less but still kinda choppy.... On two 4.1.2 roms I mentioned above it's almost perfect. Small thing.

in my case it was franco kernel that caused the super bad performance.
the problem was coming from write performance which caused cpu overloading and locking down the device. this got worse after some time without reboot ~2days.
i did a clean install of sourcery rom with cmw (twrp seems to leave some stuff behind which will cause the lag again?) and so far my device is up for some time without any slowdowns.
maybe you once installed a kernel and use twrp which never got you a clean rom again? hope that helps some of you troubled ones.

Oh well, I changed some of the apps to 4.2 versions, and now i have a 4.2 clone with the speed and smoothness of 4.1.2
I don't find 4.2 much slower, but I sure miss the bluetooth not disconnecting every time I turn the screen off.

To downgrade, just flash a 4.1.2 Rom. You'll have to move all of your data up from the data/media/0 folder though.
I actually just went back to 4.2.1 and there is a huge difference from 4.2.2. And I tried every and I mean every combo. Some were good but just not as polished overall. Can't bring myself to go back to 4.1.2. I like the overall aesthetic changes 4.2 brought.
