Hi all,
I noticed that whenever I take a picture and then open it up in the gallery, the colours are all different than the actual colours that appear on the screen when you are in the Stock camera. So I tried pressing the screen capture button and comparing the same picture, Stock VS Screen capture.
The results where great imo, screen capture has a better representation of colour and better contrast, also the lighting and brightness come out more accurately.
I also noticed that even without auto enhance on (A feature that appeared in a modded camera app recently) the colours and brightness are still saved incorrectly.
Now I am using the home button with a Capture Screen function in Viper X with the capacitive button set to the shortest delay.
The good:
Better colours, better contrast, better lighting.
Saves in .png format.
Smaller size
The bad:
Only 710*1280 pictures with a size of around 1mb
Delay between shots until the .png file is saved.
No auto-rotation of pictures taken in landcscape view.
Lower quality images - Compression discoloration.
I have attached some pictures with comparisons so you can see the difference.
I used the UiMod camera I posted recently with the lyapota mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875022
All the best
imo the standard pictures look better
The pictures have been resized so there is some quality loss there too..
Try it on your phone if you have a mod that allows you to take screenshots.
The quality is not that good, but I think the colours look better.

I think the skull looks alot better on screen capture, other two I'd say camera wins.
But I think the camera on the HOX is a total let down, considering when they were advertising they jumped out of a bloody plane with it, if we did that it would be blurry as hell, false advertisement bloody hell !

unless you use burst-shooting
the thing is when you are using burst, at least one of them will look sharp
try it with a fast moving animal, guaranteed you will get one good one

I think the camera is a let down too, I was so excited when I first bought it but then after a while everything started seeming strange, colours, contrast, brightness, the saturation was way too much also. Pictures look pretty good with the lyapota mod though :- )
all the best
the camera is great for fast moving objects, took a few pics of my nephew running around the other day, every single pic was focused and not blurry.
i have noticed that the hq camera mod slows it down, unless you reduce the quality a bit.
Just bumped into this thread and i have to agree with the OP, i just noticed that 2 days ago and I was trying to find a solution. When I take a picture it looks great during the review time ( 3-5 seconds) but then when I open it in the gallery it seems it loses its quality. It's driving me crazy!
I read lots of bad reviews on ZL's LCD (viewing angle, washed out color..etc)
I switched from Galaxy S3 to ZL a week ago. S3 had been a decent phone, smooth, lots of custom roms
(of course everyone uses S3..many developers)
I am a photographer and have duel monitor setting with 2560 x 1440 S-IPS panels, I use Spyder 4 pro to calibrate displays
(very sensitive to accurate and consistent color)
AMOLED was too blue and red is too much red , made my eyes tired
I agree with ppl saying ZL and Z's LCD screen has really poor viewing angle.
My girl friend actually preferred S3 because that reason.
(we often watch youtube video on S3 and it was fine)
So, basically ZL's screen is only visible for me
(cannot share with my girl friend cause of poor viewing angle) and made us very disappointed.
However, assuming viewing angle is alright, I love the accuracy of color on the screen.
White balance is good (we can even calibrate it).
I will let the picture explain. Default setting,
same browser (white background), and same bright level.
sorry for bad English, it's not my first language.
I agree! Give me LCD any day over the over saturated screen that is AMOLED. However I don't get why you included a pic of the back of both phones
Oh actually I didn't mean it.
Tried to delete the 2nd pic but xda didn't allow me(guess because i am new here )
I also wonder if the viewing angle problem is due to its pre applied screen protector.(some films often make viewing angle very limited ) anyone tried to remove the film?
(Of course hopefully sony logo will go away with the film..)
Sent from my C6503 using xda premium
AFAIK the Sony logo is in the glass unlike on the Z where it's on the shatter proof film. I have yet to remove it though

Sony logo does not go away with the pre applied SP. And FWIW, I dont think Sony would put something that makes the screen look worse. I think you mean a privacy SP. They dont make the screen look washed out, just darken them when looked at from an angle.

yeh. I meant that privacy SP.So, I thought Sony used to have decent displays (I had Sony's z-series long ago and it had a great LCD..).
just still do not understand why sony did not put IPS level display on their flagships..
anyhow, I will be OK with that except when the phone is on my desk and want to check a notification without grabbing it.
hi
i have a problem with my camera
when take a picture with flash in very dark environment like at night beach or in party or room, in the left side of pic see a burn like noise.
i take lot of pic and I observed if the object is located at near distance at approximately 0.5 meters, for example, the image has not any problem But if the object distance is greater pics is noisy .
but when room has enough light with or without flash pics don't has any problem.
I used stock camera program and many other programs, but the results did not change.
now i updated my rom to last version ( I9192XXUAMI1 ) and tested again but The result is like before.
Someone has a problem like this?
Somebody has a solution?
i creat like this tread at sommobile.com
you can see my example pics in beach at night and dark rooms
i have the same issue with flash, but i thought the case i have the phone in is reflecting the flash light into the camera incorrectly.
thanks for reply
I'm pretty sure the problem is not from sensor and the problem is flash reflected light and hope Samsung could solve the problem somehow.
Sometimes the problem was ruin the picture and it is very annoying.
i want know all of s4 mini phones have this problemconfused:

I removed the back cover, but it didnt help at all, it appears in the left top corner from distance 0,5 meter and with larger distance is the purple light more intensive.
i have also s4mini and same problem
Maybe reason
Hello
i have same problem -> purple tinge on night photos with flash on my SGS 4 Mini. I thing its same problem as on Z1 compact = bad housing, which transmits light. The day after tomorrow I borrow a black cover. I think it will be better.
Please confrim if you have WHITE sgs4 mini as me.
PS: I tested to cover the flash with sticker, and result is in attachment ;c)
Try this camera app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.opencam
Another user had similar issue, despite I also told him take the back cover off. I than recommended him to try the above program and works. Give it a shot.
Same here on my GT-I9195. An annoying glare from the flashlight's side, when I shoot in almost complete darkness.
Is it worth it?
Hi guys I need some advice.
I look for 10” tablet which main use (beside watching Netflix in bed, web browsing, occasional gaming in 3d intensive games, web email etc…) will be to import photos from my camera (USB OTG or Wi-Fi direct) then browse, delete, edit (Photoshop touch) and move to SD card.
Now I was thinking about Note 10.1 (2014) but I been put away by number of problems with this device and its uneven performance.
Owning Tegra Note 7 I found that I love the performance but 7 inch is too small and stylus is nice addition but it’s not must have for me.
Therefore I look at Tab S 10.5.
From outside it looks like slim nice device but I still remember my horrors with first Galaxy Note.
Personally I found that Samsung customer service is run by semi-skilled chimpanzee paid in rotten bananas. Since I have this opportunity to contact several departments/case escalations etc. I gain one great example of how customer service should NOT look like – priceless material and first-hand experience for my business presentations.
Therefore I am very nervous thinking about another Samsung device.
Please help:
1.*******If you own Tab S 10.5 already – are you 100% satisfied with it? Performance, sound, built quality, display, functions (I read that 8,5 has some performance issues but I got the impression that 10.5 is not affected?)
2.*******DEAD pixels – I have really bad luck to these – did you find any of them on OLED display so far?
3.*******Ghosting / colour issues – especially in dark gamma of colours. I remember that this was main reason I sold my galaxy note. Photos from camera looked horrible on the display; any dark colours seemed to be missing quite a chunk of shades between dark grey and black (darkest colour that pixel could display was too far from total blackness of pixel off state). Is this still an issue here?* I wish to use my tablet to browse and edit the photos therefore this will be a deal breaker for me.
4.*******USB OTG using simple usb adapter – read mixed opinions on the forum – does it work out of the box or not?
5.*******Taking into account what I said about how I am going to use a tablet – would you recommend Tab S or maybe Sony Z2 tab? Still prefer Samsung look and feel but Sony with SD800 looks like robust device.
Thank you guys for any advice…*
I'm very happy with the screen, performance and the build quality. I don't mind it being plastic at all.
Since its Samsung there might be a few micro lags once in a while but I'm OK with that. Playing heavy 3d games is very smooth and Netflix and other videos look absolutely suberb.
Only thing that I don't like so far is the new hardware buttons.
How about dead pixels and screen performance on dark photos in third party apps?

No dead pixels. I'm not expert on photography so I'm not sure about that. I'm happy with this screen performance on photos. Not used third party apps, only what comes preinstalled.
And all my photos are taken with s4 and that affects photo quality very much, especially in dark photos.
Would you be able to make small experiment? Take a dark-ish photo with the camera. Then try to edit it in Snapseed (free photo editing app - great in my opinion) and check how does the photo looks like. My worry is that most if not all third party apps that have not been preinstalled (and therefore not optimised by Samsung) may have problems with OLED.

Did that but since I don't have real camera I had to took the photo with s4 that produces grainy photos in low light environment.
I downloaded a pic taken with real camera and opened it in Snapseed. Didn't notice any problems, looked the same as the original photo. Cropped though. But yet again, I'm no expert on this matter.
Great! Thank you for doing this. Hmmm I seems that I will do another trip to PC world to check if they have 32gb version yet if not I will hunt down brown LTE then

The problem you may come across with the OLED screen is going to be the opposite of what you had experienced in the past with regard to photos. The OLED screen is capable of such a high contrast and so many levels of black that if you have a photo (or especially a video) that lacks good shadow info it may appear poor but only because the source is low quality. For example, take this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWpZQhnNTu8 the blacks look good on a LCD because it isn't capable of producing many dark levels in the first place. But try that same video on the Tab S OLED screen and the shadow areas in parts of the video look terrible because the better display shows the holes in the quality.
That video you posted looks absolutely fantastic on the OLED display ?
I visit a store yesterday and I can confirm that Samsung branded USB OTG cable works with no problems - I could read and write using stock file manager so far so good. Since I got nice discount for LTE version I am more and more convinced to getting one.
Also I took pictures from different cameras with me and browse them on the tablet - no problems whatsoever. Really nice display. Crisp and full of details.
Thank you all for comments - is there anything else I should know from all yours first hand experiences? Or should I jump on it and be happy teddy?
Only shame is that I got the offer for white tab only when I love the look of brown one. (Ech... Either way I will keep in in the case so... ).
Hello, I have the 8.4" WiFi model (SM-T700) and a few problems, the two with the display are really annoying.
Fist thing, I think everybody knows this image where you can see numbers from 21 down to zero, with each number getting blacker. When I am in an absolutely dark room and I have about 2% brightness (guessed, it gets relatively bright the first millimeters on the slider), I can see the 9, maybe the 8, and then everything is black. I made a photo with long exposure so you can see it. It is clearly noticeable while watching movies, when someone has dark or black hair, all of the hair is just one black thing on top of peoples' heads. Even on my crappy Laptop screen I can see the definition of the hair.
Second thing, when there is a dark picture and something black is moving in the dark part, it looks like a shadow is following. So if you have the person with the dark hair, and the tab makes it totally black and he/she is moving, it takes the display a bit to switch from black to the actual color. I uploaded a movie, and you can definitely see it. Take a look at the two black tiles, if I move it fast enough they become one big tile.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dW2HvbdEgk
Both of those problems might not be very visible in the photo or video, but it so annoying and definitely way worse when you look at the screen with your own eyes. It doesn't really matter when you surf the web, but watching movies is very annoying.
Does anyone of you have an idea what I could do?
Thanks guys!
