[Q] Need stock touchwiz back! - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have an d2att and i deleted my backup of touchwiz that originally came on the phone when i got it. Simply put I need it back. how/where would I get the download and install stock touchwiz back onto my gs3? I do NOT want a rom. I want the original OS.

Then all you would've needed to do was look in the development forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
P.S- Just so you know. Stock touchwhiz is a ROM. When you buy your phone from the store, it comes with a ROM. Otherwise it wouldn't work.

All you have to do is download any stock rom go to system/app dir and snag the touchwiz app. Not hard. Change permissions and install.

this is NOT what the op is looking for, they want the whole thing, not just the launcher.

Wow, then this makes NO SENSE.

Then what do you call the stock rom? an OS?
Happy flashing!

Stand alone Sprint ID

Is there a way to get the Sprint ID as an APK or flashable? I'm on Bonsai 4, and don't want to go back to DI18 stock just to get the update, but I'd like to at least take a look at Sprint ID before I decide it's junk.
There's a configurable flashable found here. Sprint ID is W_Installer.apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987777
Once its intalled though you're probably going to have to reflash to get rid of it.

You can pull Launcher2.apk and W_Installer.apk from the update.zip. Not sure if you can install them like regular apks but you can copy them to /system/apps/
Edit: You don't need W_Installer.apk, which is the tutorial widgets. I thought it might cause a problem if you didn't have it but I have confirmed that you can remove it.

I'll do a nandroid backup first. And if restoring that doesn't work I'll reflash the ROM. Just didn't feel like odin-ing back to November.

I don't think you can just install it. There are a few things different between the phones.
In regards to go back to stock, my suggestion is to do a Nandroid backup of your phone now, while is stock. You can change the name of the backup to Stock or something you'll remember. Then you'll always have a stock backup in case a rom or theme goes bad. Just boot into recovery, backup/restore and select your stock backup and you're back to square one. In fact, it's always advisable to do a backup just before you flash anything major. Get into the habit and you'll never (almost ) be stuck with no way out.

1. The zip as is works on our phones (I played guinea pig and put it on my phone) Be aware it puts TW Launcher BACK on your phone (if you took it off) AND changes several apps. So have fun. It's a VERY nice theme... It won't change signal meters... FYI
2. I have already posted the stock theme here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279964 . So yes.

[Q] Activating new Sprint account while on custom ROM

So I am currently running ACS ICS v5.1 and will be needing to switch my Epic to a completely new Sprint account/number etc.
Will I need to revert back to stock ROM for this process, or can I stay on the custom ROM?
Would appreciate any insight into this matter. Thanks!!
No, as long as the needed files have not been removed like Sprint_app_updater and Sprintandroidextensions and probably devicemanagement.apk.

Yes. You can either ask what was removed in the thread or download the file, open it in Windows explorer and look in the system/app folder for the apps you need. If you like that ROM, we can get you what you need. I have the stock deodexed ROM that has all the stock apps in it. Or I just found this:

[Q] Root+Custom ROM help (i747)

Hello,
In October I purchased my first true smartphone, the Galaxy S3 i747.
Since then I have rooted and just have a few simple questions.
I haven't installed a custom ROM, and I really don't know much about them other than that they are an alternative to the stock android os (4.1, 4.0, etc.) that comes with your phone. I have a few questions about ROMs.
I have heard good things about cleanROM, and I want to download it to my phone, but I can't seem to find my phone's version of it. Does it even exist for my version? If not, what are some excellent alternatives? (Must be able to change status bar, I hate the grey one in 4.1.1, just updated tonight) Finally, with a custom ROM, will I ever have to do anything with the stock OS again? Because I get this error message now after i have upgraded to 4.1.1, that doesnt let me check for updates as I have rooted my phone.
Thanks a ton for your help guys, and sorry for the noobish questions!

I may be wrong but it looks like cleanROM is for only Verizon. I dont think Scott has an AT&T version because he does not have our phone.

I had the same questions as you did when I first started...
Best thing to do is go into the android development forums or the android original development fund a Rom, read some of the posts and feedback on it, and if you like what your reading try it out due your self.
Some roms are built around the stock TWz JB os so looks wise is minimal but alot of the extra crap removed i.e all att bloat crap apps that you never use, and other tweaks here and there.
All this into can be found on the OPs first post about the Rom, and make sure that Rom is due your phone!
Follow all pre flashing instructions, and backup!!!!!
Just flash and test it out, worst case you can just restore back to your back up and it will be as you never flashed.
There is a link with the most common Roms I'm pretty sure it's a sticky, I always use a rom that active support for it so as issues come up, they get resolved.
This stuff can get very confusing, read, search, and just post Qs some people like my self have no qualms responding to repeat questions as we all were there once before.
But search is your friend
Hope this helps!

I have a few more questions. What is a good backup application? I really know nothing about them so if somebody would reccomend one that would be great! Another thing that drew me to cleanROM is that usefull applications like kies air and dropbox weren't removed. Is this the case with many roms?
Thanks

Dropbox is always downloadable from the play store. Pretty sure it's the same deal with kies air, you can just redownload.
Backup as system is always done in CWM.
Backup applications and data for them,I highly recommend titanium back up, awesome app but phone needs to be rooted, with that app you can backup all your applications, flash a rom then just install titanium backup and restore all applications. It's very nice!

So your phone isn't rooted..
Did you try to when you hold vol- and power does the phone boot into recovery mode which should be CWM ... if that happens you are rooted..
Otherwise try to start all over with Odin and the tar files you need to root.

Odin is used to root the phone from stock.. it allows you to first install cwm and su ..once that is done, Odin isn't used any longer unless your reverting back to stock, CWM is used thus forward.

[Q] I think I messed up and I need help

I was trying to get "hotspot for all sprint samsung" to work. found here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idone.hotspot
He said it should work so I used this app to check my binary so I used this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su.fixer&hl=en
and it says no binary installed. But I had this one installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su&hl=en. So I thought it would be smart to install this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.superuser&hl=en.
Now my phone is stuck in this recovery cycle and won't turn on.
Please help! I hope I didn't mess my phone up.

Do what GhostAssassin said. Once your back on stock you can flash cf-auto root and TWRP recovery if you want... just like you did before. As for going about getting hotspot unlocked, dont use generic methods/apps unless you want to run into this kind of problem. There are much better and easier ways of doing this. Do some searching in your specific device forums instead. With all the steps you went through you could have flashed one zip and been done. You could have also flashed a stock rooted rom such as mine and been in business in no time. Before you attempt mods and things in the future, make sure it's fully compatible with your specific device because there are differences in code from one device to another., depending on what it is.

Yes. you must install a custom recovery in order to flash a custom or stock rooted rom. At this time TWRP is the only recovery that officially supports our Sprint Note 4. Trying other recoveries for other note 4's "might" work but in my opinion if it isn't fully tested and confirmed by the recovery project team then you shouldn't flash it on your phone. With that said, look in the Original development forum here in the Sprint note 4 forum and you will find the TWRP thread. Same for CF-auto root... just do a search and you will find it.

I don't know what that means. But I'm running just the stock rom.
Go into settings/About device/Software version. At the very top you will see which rom version you're on. The last three letters is the version you have. Look in my Hybrid Edition rom thread in the 3rd post in mods section. I only made the zips for NK2 but I can make the NIE mods later. Most pople have probably upgraded to NK2. Find out if your rom is odexed or deodexed before flashing and download the one you need.

Yep It is NIE. Now how do I tell if it is odexed or deodexed?
Unless you have flashed a custom rom on your phone you still have the factory installed odexed rom. If you have fladhed a stock odin rom .tar then it will also be odexed. If you never flashed a custom rom you will be odexed. I went through a bit of trouble making the odexed hotspot mod. Its very rarely done for stock odexed roms. But I know theres people out there who want it for their stock rom.
