Hey guys, I have been switching ROMS like crazy and a few roms have given me issues with me LTE/4G, the only way for me to fix this is by restoring it back to stock and re-rooting it. anyways, is there a maximum count or else it will permanently brick or something?
Do you mean tripping the flash counter? I knew a guy who tripped his flash counter some 90 times or more on his note 1.

Mine stays at 1 no matter what I do.
I think the counter only gets tripped when you change recovery. That's what I found out when I did it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Samsung only cares if it's 1 or higher. Truth is they might have a limit to counts. Aka 255 or something. But I doubt it matters. If youre that worried triangle away. You just have voided your warranty. Which is stupid. Warranty doesnt matter on insurance though. They will gladly charge you the insurance fee for a new one.

A few days ago, i sent my phone in for a warranty exchange. I unrooted the phone, but for some reason the boot logo never went back to stock. I also never could reset the flash counter because i do not have access to a jig. I had 3 days to get it sent in and i was forced to send it in without resetting the flash counter. Does anyone know what T-Mobile will do? Are they going to charge me any money??

No. It'll most likely get flashed to stock.right when they get it . I have sent phones in with counters and wrong boot logos such as mytouch and have never been charged.

I had to send my hard bricked SGS2 in for warranty exchange, it was still rooted even. They sent me a new one no questions asked. Most the time the techs who are doing the reflashing don't really care if you're rooted or not. Worst that could happen is they charge you, though I would say your probably on the safe side.
I sell cell phones for my job and I can tell you most employee's won't even know what rooting is if you told them. When I returned my Galaxy Nexus it was hard bricked and had the bootloader unlocked, but they had no idea.
I sent back a sensation fully rooted with a custom rom still on it and had no issues. I would not worry about it.

For future reference they say you have 7 days but you actually have 60 days from the date UPS ships it. They will bill you the non return fee after 30 days but they will credit it as long as its within 60 days. If your pushing it with the cutoff but made it get a printout showing you dropped it off.
Hope this helps

Am I the only one found this hilarious lol
Subject says it all. I've been using my S3 for about 6 months, stock. Recently OTA upgraded to 4.1.1 JB, which killed my battery life compared to ICS, but now I'm considering rooting just to test out ROMs and see if I can improve battery life (and all the goodies that come along with it)
Is preserving the flash counter important? Is that really something we should be concerned about?
I read something in a thread where it was said no matter how you obtain root, when you flash ROMs or kernels it trips the counter +1 anyway.
Just seems like if that is true, then why bother to preserve the flash counter if it trips anyway?

Don't worry about it. Triangle away will reset it back to zero when needed
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk 2
But remember that it's not guaranteed that resetting the flash counter will work. It will void warranty.
I bought my S3 used, so I gave about zero craps because I had no intention of ever trying to get a replacement under warranty, anyway. I'd just sell it for parts if it came to that.
I hope that app works because lately the people who inspect the phones at the tmobile stores are actually looking to see if the phone is rooted now. So maybe the technicians at the lab will look for that counter and see that the phone was rooted.
Type R-blood
Yeah , same problem with me. When on stock ics the battery would drain by 2-3% per hour in idle mode. But after upgrading to jb it is draining at 8-9%. Does anyone knows how to fix that?
I've used triangle away and it resets flash counter. So if u ever need to get ur warranty back just use traingle away and flash stock rom.

Flashing stuff when you don't even know what you're doing and impacting is a bad idea - a user needs to make an informed choice and understand the possible risks and benefits.

Quick Question:
If I were to revert back to stock by flashing the stock ROM through Odin, will that automatically reset the flash counter?
No, you need to use triangle away if you have increased counter.

Also out of curiosity I was wondering:
- Why does resetting the flash counter really matter?
- Does it help in any way other than for warranty purposes?
- Does the phone performance decrease if the flash counter is tripped?
- Why do some people go to such great measures to make sure it stays at 0?
Like whats the reason for it all?
If you have a issue with your phone that's the first thing the tech does when you take it in is look at the flash counter so yes it's just a warranty thing and for people always going the extra step or two to reset it I would say that's OCD kicking in. Lol

If the Knox counter gets tripped, will that affect me trading in my phone with T-Mobile's JUMP! Program?

Good question. I gave in my girls HTC sensation today, rooted running AOKP, they rebooted it, saw the custom boot ani, and still gave us $65. Maybe withb jump they check more thoroughly?

The guy who sold me the Note 3 was into custom ROMs. When I mentioned Knox efuse and trade in with Jump he said no one there would even know what to look for at trade in and that flashing should be fine. He said the same thing about warranty returns. The insurance company would just take back the device.
But...he did mention that trade ins with Jump would end up as refurb devices. So its possible that there might be someone along the repair service chain knows whats what.
I traded my note 2 in today, running tweaked rom and custom recovery. Still got $275 for it. A lot of the phones get wiped and reflashed without even being checked to see if they were tampered with

I couldn't believe they were offering so much for the Note 2. I almost dumped mine. I'm selling it to one of my employees already. Only 300, I wish I didn't commit, I would have sold it today, instead of waiting a month for my money.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
Note 2's probably going to go on sale like the s3 did when s4 came out and s3' were selling like mad because the price drop so maybe they want to have refurb stock to offer in case demand gets high and they run out of new note 2's due to a sale on note 2' s

When processing a trade in the only things the computer asks is
Water damage
Does it turn on
Is the screen broken
Is their physical damage
They also gave me $275 for my Note 2. JediX19. They didn't care at all.
$275? I wish I wasn't such a nice guy sometimes. I ended up giving my mother in law my Note II.

I don't think the eFuse matters unless you're getting it warranty repaired by Samsung and even then, they may not bother to check if there's no custom ROM running. Most people don't know about it or even care. I sent a Droid4 to Moto for warranty repair and there is something similar (it may or may not be the same) that gets flipped when it's rooted. They didn't care and repaired the defect.
Just found this thread Googling for the same thing. I was told by the guy at the T-Mobile I went to that they don't care at the store when trading it in, but he's not sure what would happen when it got to wherever they send it and see it tripped.
Basically what happens is if it is tripped your rights to the extended warranty are revoked going forward. You won't be able to add the extended warranty or jump for 12 months plus you pay out of warranty fee.

I'm a tmo rep and so far they've said nothing about checking anything but the screen and water damage etc, I've also traded in 3 different phones that were rooted and custom Rom and all and never heard a word from Samsung or whoever the traded phones go to. Plain. And simple lol we don't care what you did with your Phone. I've also sent an s3 I. Under Warranty Last Year Without Using Triangle Away And There Were No Repercussions. Cost too much money and time to check every phone they just basically reflash and refurbish and send it back out

Ok i know if my Knox counter changes to anything higher than 0x0 it gets voided right... Ok cool but voided/rejected by who? Samsung? Or tmobile's warrenty exchange? Because from what i read everyones talking this repair this n that "i sent out for repair.." Ok but im not sending anything for repair its a WARRENTY EXCHANGE due to usb port problems... Does it get voided by tmobile? Please and thank you
Btw: i search all throught the forums and threads of knox for this and havent found anyone talking about the "WARRANTY EXCHANGE" like i said before ive read about ppl getting their device sent to repair rejected... But what about when they send u the front piece (no battery no back plated **refurbished**) and u send it back in a white box... Thats what i dont see anyone talking about...
Once again thanks in advance i just wanted to get that straightened out...

We are not positive if KNOX is used for warranty purposes. Warranty exchange can be done in person at a Tmobile store or having it shipped out. It is best to go to a store and try and get it replaced. A lot of the clerks are clueless about warranty and you shouldn't have any problems with an exchange.

They don't seem to really care. They just want us to know they have the upper hand.
I've warranty exchanged a s3 and an s4 recently and just odin'd to stock.

I never do the exchange thru a T-mobile store. I asked once about it to one of the reps at the store and they said i have to call (mytouch days lol) so ever since then I've always used the one year warrenty with Tmobile.. Not insurance or asurion... Simply..One year warrenty.. So they first serve the white box with the device then i send mine back in the same box within 7 days but i wanna know will they care about knox? Since its not a repair?..

I haven't exchanged any with the knox counter triggered, But I can tell you this much, a T-mobile rep is more concerned about water damage than anything else. that's why the 1st thing they do is to take ur battery out and check little white sticker it turns red/pinkish when exposed to water.
other than that u shouldn't have a problem, just odin back full stock and and take it back .. I would try it but I just replaced my old S4 a couple days ago and its working fine.
just go in there like a boss and demand an exchange... LOL JK
