Hey all I could really use some help. I attempted to run the guide to root my Incredible 2 and got to the last step on got an error. Now my phone is in a constant state of reboot. Gets to the point of almost being up and then reboots. I don't know where to go. I've been out of the rooting scene for a couple years and I must have made a mistake at some point. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get back to plain stock. Thanks in advance!!!!

I know i'm not the only one but i'm like a kid waiting for Christmas. In short, I bought a new Evo 4G used, its not even 2 weeks old. Gingerbread is on it (4.22.651.2) and im waiting for the ability to root /unroot [which way im not sure] and last i was told its Ruu is not made or found yet. Please make this an easy transition and let me know here if the Ruu is created and if the steps will be different than the other steps you've guys shown here and on youtube, please! Also, I'm paying for Boost's blackberry service (60 bux a month) which i won't need when i get the Evo 4G going. I would be over grateful for your patience and consideration. Also, i did do my due diligence to look for all the info and tried several rooting options i.e.: Unrevoked3 and so on, with no luck.
Thanks!!
Have you tried here?

If you would have looked harder (sarcasm), you would have found that there is not root method for the newest OTA update. There are dozens of threads pointing this out.
Thanks, tgruendler [re-sarcasm] I did indicate that i knew the OTA wasn't able to be rooted yet HOWEVERm if it did come about if it could be posted here, i'd Highly appreciate it since there is a TON of information throughout the site! Yet, Thanks for the Razzin'

Not sure I understand your question but I presently have a Blackberry 8530 on Boost mobile but i just bought a Evo 4G which it seems to have been updated to Gingerbread 2.3.3. I can not root it to switch it to boost. I don't know if anything in your thread helped. But thanks!
you dont need root in order to get it on boost mobile
you just need to fix some things ,, due to forum rules i dont know the legal wording to use .....but on gb its a lil tricky to get the info fixed and that is where i am in this moment in time
Thanks for your reply. I've been doing alot of reading yet I'm still gun shy. Can anyone let me know if this thread is what i'm looking for?

You can gladly put on roms for other phones. Of course, you will brick the Evo, but you can do it.
.and if u can give me links to good ones that would be cool.

I was such a noob i couldnt tell you what rom i ended up flashing or what method i used to root lol...
all i remember is using a program that ran on my computer to unlock it.
heck even the first time i rooted my evo i noobed it up. but now im more into it than before. You will become a flash-aholic
And there are so many great roms, themes and mods out now...you can flash all day for a week and still not see everything.

You don't just "take a rom off". If you wipe the rom, your phone wont boot to anything. But you can easily just flash another rom, or restore your previous backup.
GOOD site for most roms on one page!!
http://evo4g.roms-db.com/all-builds/
Ran across the above site in research, used a rom off of it pretty cool plus anything tie into XDA im for it!! Thanks
Flash-a-holics (not to be mistaken with streakers lol) is a known issue affecting men and women here in XDA. This is an incurable addiction. Common symptoms include:
Anxiety (don't believe me? Try flashing a radio update lol)
Stress (not knowing what to do when your phone boots and is stuck at the HTC EVO 4G screen lol)
Nagging from the wife (cuz you spend more time tweaking your phone instead of helping around taking care of the baby)
In EXTREME cases, hypothetically speaking, if your house was on fire and you had a chance to retrieve one of the following items:
1) wedding album
2) expensive art piece
...you would write in:
3) my precious Evo lol

He wasn't trying to be a jerk. The best thing you can do is research read and search some more, and do it all over again. There are plenty of ppl here that will help. First off it is really hard to mess up your phone to the point of not being able to fix it. Most important now that you are rooted is to make a nandroid backup it will save you phone. Good luck and happy flashing

Click the link in my signature, which I need to up date, but still, even though it was set for MIUI, it's a good guide for flashing any ROM
So recently I applied the stock rooted 4.0.4 rom to my CDMA Nexus. After this, it would have this strange problem where occasionally the screen would just not respond to any touch. I would battery pull many times over before it would start working again. Tonight I finally got fed up and tried to apply the factory image (4.0.2) to it through Wug's root toolkit v1.3. When it completed the phone went into a serious bootloop, not getting past the google logo. What happened? Did I just make a very expensive paperweight?
Restore everything to an earlier time including the bootloader, recovery, radios, and rom through adb. You can also use a toolkit like the one found below to restore your phone to stock then redo everything:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
Yeah, I've tried that a few times and it's still stuck on the Google image and won't move forward. Just restarts and restarts.
Another evidence that 1 click methods leads to ppl doing stuff without any understanding
Thanks for your help, sir. I know I'm not the most knowledgeable but you don't have to rub it in. I'm already down a phone.

There really are tons of threads here telling you exactly what to do in a case like yours - you just have to use the search and take the time to read through them.
And no, it's not bricked as long as you can get into the recovery.

While I understand your anger, he does also make a valid point. 2 reasons why. If you didn't use a one click method maybe your phone would be working fine. 2nd by doing it the hard way hopefully you learned something and when you have a problem you know how or at least understand what is involved with fixing it.
Hope you get it fixed.

exactly, my intention was not to make you feel bad.
I was hoping this example would make ppl learn the proper way.
As if you did, you wouldnt be in this predicament.
You would also know that you haven't bricked your device, not freak out over it and just fix it.
Cold hard facts are generally blunt and I understand your frustration, I also appreciate that you didnt start a flame war.
Hope you've sorted it out and and learned something in the process.
Good luck.
Ok. I did manage to fix it by learning how to manually flash the stock image. Perhaps I did need the hard line!

Hi all. I am pretty sure I bricked my wife's S3 when I tried to root it using the following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682 - has nothing to do with the tool kit, more like user error. I have rooted multiple past phones and my current note 2. I got to the odin part and it did it's thing but nevere rebooted to go to the next step. I cannot get into recovery, the computer doesn't recognize the phone now and the screen doesn't do anything. Any ideas? I am pretty sure I bricked it and will need to get a new phone for her.
Appreciate any help or confirmation of a new paper weight.

Does the device do anything at all when you try to power it on? What exact steps did you take when you attempted to root the device? If the phone does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, not even vibrate, then your looking at a hard brick. If it does vibrate and/or you can at least get to the splash screen, then it's a soft brick and stuck in a boot loop.

It does sound like it is bricked. In the future, never unplug the phone while Odin is flashing it. (Im assuming this is what you did?) Always wait until it says PASS, RESET, or FAIL. Sometimes it can hang for 20 or more minutes, but it should always eventually show one of those 3 results.
Just to be sure though. Pull the battery, then put it back in. Try to boot into Download Mode. Try to boot into Recovery. If you can get one of these you are probably not bricked. If you cannot get to either one, and you cannot boot normally, then I am afraid you are bricked.
This does not mean you need to buy a new phone however. What it needs is something called a JTAG fix. You can probably find several shops online that will do this for you, but the one that always gets mentioned around here is http://mobiletechvideos.com
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I hope this helps you. If you do get it fixed, next time I suggest rooting with the root66 method. It is much safer imo, at least I see a lot fewer problems with it.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the info. I did get the reset and waites for just over 15 minutes. Nothing was happening and I thought it was bricked so I did unplug it. When I used the same tool to root my N2 it took less than 5 minutes for the entire process.
I will check out the link. Appreciate your help! Thank you.

Thanks for getting back. He screen doesn't come on at all, but it does vibrate once after a battery pull and then nothing. I followed the steps and got to "reset" in odin where it was waiting for the phone to reboot and after 15+ minutes I thought "crap" bricked it. Unplugged, which I would screw it up which it did. I am going to look into the company DocHoliday77 mentioned below. Worth a shot as cheaper than buying another phone.

Thanks for the link. I wonder if its just the aboot.mbn on that image or if there's something else. (Ill read through the threads later to see if its mentioned). Either way if we can make a version using our aboot it should work for us too. I don't think using Sprints will work for us, but I could be wrong.
Definitely interesting though!

Inside the 20MB.xz file (open with 7z), is an 80MB img file. Need to dd it somewhere to make any more progress.
So I have been looking around and finding little that I understand. I am looking to go back to stock completely. I rooted and installed lifeless rom and it was great. Then my phone started acting up and sprint said they would give me a new one but my phone is rooted so they can't do anything. They guy said if I unroot it and come back then he can help me. So I am looking to clear everything. I was wondering how exactly I go about doing that.
Thank you in advance.

You installed Lifeless, so it's not a simple unroot. You'll have to use LGNST, LG version of Odin.

He doesn't know how to do his job. Sprint services rooted devices. It's company policy.
