I have a Galaxy S3 purchased in the UK that is compatible with Rogers, Fido, and Bell in Canada, however i tried to put a mobilicity SIM in and it wont work. They told me at the store that its because of the radio frequency that my phone carries. Ive done research into this and ive found that it can be changed, however instructions to do this are vague and unclear. Can someone please help me with this?
If the phone doesn't have the appropriate radio to support the AWS band (1700MHz), software won't allow you to do it. Given from everything I can see on the GT-i9300 specs (which is the UK model), you will not be able to use this on Wind or Mobilicity at all.
Yea it doesn't work on Wind or Mobilicity.
Sorry to bump up an old thread, but is it possible to flash the LTE Version of this phone so the i747 with a WIND Mobile Baseband and have it working on wind?
Nope. They are different phones. My earlier post applies here too.

Does anyone know if the Telus version of the SIII is the same modelt hat is on Rogers?
I went to the websites and seems the GSM frequencies are the same but was not clear on the LTE chip. Each service provider uses a different AWS and it is not clear if both are active on each phone or if there is a separate phone for each.
Anyone know?
I ask because I can get a deal on a used Telus one but I am on Rogers
as far as i know, the telus, bell, and rogers versions have the exact same model number, thus, same hardware:

hope that helps.

Yes I can confirm it will work fine.
Remember that you will have to UNLOCK it first either free manually (somewhere in XDA there is info), or paying Telus or paying a 3rd party. Then make sure to get the Rogers LTE Sim and also APN info specific to LTE etc.
I did see that telus was selling refurbished ones for pretty cheap.
Should be the same (i747m)

They're identical phones. I was planning on getting one of those Telus refurbs until the page went down
You can just unlock it and flash the factory Bell or Rogers software onto it (so you can have the appropriate bloatware lol)
I'm from Canada and we recently received Wind Mobile who offers an amazing deal compared to the other companies around here but someone had told me they are CDMA. Since everyone around here is GSM I have no clue how this would affect me. Seeing as this is a T Mobile phone as well who I recall are CDMA can I flash on a t mobile radio and move to Wind? (Phone will be unlocked from the method in the general section)
Thanks!...

A friend of mine is currently doing the same thing as you and is using an unlocked T989D to work on Wind mobile. He flashed the T-Mobile radio and it works fine. Good luck!
T-Mobile is a GSM provider. There are many people in this forum who use the Hercules on Wind with no problems. You *could* flash a T-Mobile radio, but if I were you in Canada, I would rather flash a radio meant for the T989 (Telus, Fido, Wind, etc. radio).
Isn't T898 only GSM phone for use with AWS band (in North America)? Sure, it can work in Europe too on 2100 MHz band, but it still a GSM/UMTS band. It was my understanding that the phone would need to be compatible with CDMA radio on a hardware level. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Hi there,
It started with when I bought int. version N7100 from Amazon.com. I live in Canada and use WIND mobile. So I inserted my SIM and it didn't work! I sent Note 2 back to the seller, and get refunded soon. So, basically, I'm sort of noob here, and have a noob question. Sorry, but need your help.
Now, I want to give a try to purchase N7105 or SGH-T889V (from Mobilcity, cuz it is cheaper) version, and use it with my WIND sim card.
1) Will N7105 work with WIND AWS band right away or do I have to root and flash WIND modem for it?
2) Same question as in 1) but for Mobilcity Note 2 (but I guess it will work right away without any software modification. I want just to make sure).
3) After 3-4 months I'm moving to USA (more likely) or Europe (depending my job offer), and going to get sim card from some local carrier. Which model, N7105 or SGH-T889V, covers more network?
4) As far as I understand SGH-T889V fully supports what N7105 supports, but not vice versa, am I right?
If you want to use your Note 2 on Wind then the T889V is the one you want. It's also possible to flash a radio hack on the Bell/Rogers/Telus version to get AWS HSPA. However, the T889V does not have LTE officially.
For travelling, , 7105 will be your best bet in Europe as it will support every carrier there and you will get LTE if the carriers support it. The T889V will be better for the States as it supports AWS HSPA on Tmobile, however still no LTE.

I saw on the internet people using N7105 with Bell, Telus, and Rogers with full LTE potential. And my question 1) still holds. Is it possible to do that? Even if it is possible, will it be same quality connection/performance as native (T889V) Note2?
But according wikipeadia, T889V supports some LTE bands. Maybe after flashing the modem, as you said, it will be compatible Bell/Rogers/Telus.
Now, I'm coming to conclusion that both of them work with almost all major North American carrier with full potential, while N7105 also is gonna support EU carriers. So, it is sort of N7105 > SGH-T889V, i.e. is N7105 way to go?
so i just got my SM-900W8 for Wind mobile today, had to buy it with two months service, but then was able to send half of the money i put down on that service over to my old account, switch the sims, and now i have my same old number and plan on my new note, and i'm only out an extra 20 bucks (still bull****, i know, but i wanted it today and wasn't going to deal with waiting, for any reason.... maybe too impatient lol)
anyways, after i bought it, i stopped by the bell store and asked what model they sell... they showed me the box and it was the exact same model number... SM-900W8. i then went to rogers, same thing, and telus i presume will be the same since bell and telus share towers etc
so, my question is, if i unlocked my phone, could i simply go get a bell rogers or telus sim card, and throw it in, and have it work? the region issue is a non-starter for two reasons - first i didn't even have that region lock sticker on my box, but second, the robelus sims would all be the same region, so it shouldn't matter in the least. what i'm wondering is, would the bands be the same, or at least some of the same to the point of working? i know that wind uses AWS bands and robelus does not, but since they are the same model number, is it possible that they have radios that are compatible with all four carriers in this phone?
if not, can someone explain to me how to find out what networks this phone would work on? i mean, it sounds like people are unlocking their tmobile phone and using it on att, and from what i remembered, att is not aws, and i thought that rogers and att phones worked together... ARGG what gives here?
also, are the tmo phones the same model number as mine? or did they use different phones than wind this time around?
finally, if i'm looking to root this or put a rom on this, am i looking for the tmo roms and other stuff like i was with my sgs3 or am i looking for something else with this new phone? where can i find this info... i haven't been able to find much about this yet, i guess not many people have this phone on wind yet
W8 model also has AWS HSPA and LTE.

Thanks for the answer, but I don't know for sure what bands the big three use, can anyone tell me if this phone will work on those big networks?
Also, any answers to my other questions ?
Rogers, Bell and Wind all use the SM-900W8 variant probably with just a different modem / QCP file.
So does this mean that there is some chance of, in the future when things get cracked, of flashing a new modem etc onto it our something

to answer my own question, yes, i unlocked my n900w8 from wind with an unlock code, and i was able to see whatever networks were attached to the sim i put in it. rogers, bell, telus, koodo, virgin, fido, wind, probabaly chatr if you really wanted to use this device on that dumb ass carrier
so yes, you dont even need to flash other modems... it just works
i did try flashing bell/rogers/puerto rico roms on my device and all had the same result, it all worked, and it all worked fine
Samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N900W8 from videotron (canada)
Hi, i have a Samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N900W8 from videotron (canada) and i unlock with a code to use it with fido and the phone show only the 3G internet, is there a way to enable the LTE? when i go to setting mobile network, network mode show me only 3 options WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) or WCDMA only or GSM only. I tried to root the device to do like this forum said ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489766 ) and when i root it it says pass but it stuck on rebooting and something red is written on the next line and samsung logo is there too. anyone can help me to enable the LTE network?
I sent this phone to my friend in canada. (Mississauga, ON).
He went to get the mobility sim and was told that this phone will not work with them, they need AWS 1700/2100.
What other carrier this phone can be used with and what other cheaper plans are available in that market.
Will rep.
Thanks

That's weird, according to here http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_ii_t989-4129.php the phone has the 1700/2100 band. Hell, T-Mobile operates it's "4G" network on the 1700/2100. I've used my phone in El Salvador with Claro and they run on the 1700/2100 band and I've gotten HSPA+ just fine Tell your friend to try the Mobility sim anyways. He should be getting HSPA+
T989 in Canada
Don't know why it will not work on MOST carriers. I have one on Rogers and was running T-Mobile software with no problem A friend tried to run my phone on Wind and it was a no go. The phone came with Kodo Software on it , so I guess it worked there too I am currently running a set of software called SHADOW that works very well on the Rogers service..
Yes it will work, I use this phone on Wind mobile ( AWS ).. its a telus/koodo t-989d
There are guides on XDA to unlock the phone, You basically root, then install the t-mobile v. 4 radio, then enter the test menu and do a couple of things. It was super easy and I have done it to a couple of 989d's now. keep in mind, you HAVE TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL STOCK ROM to do the unlock properly.. after you have unlocked, you can upgrade to the newer ver. 6 radio and use newer roms.
