[Q] Micro USB Cable - Thunderbolt Accessories

Any suggestions on a replacement USB cable? Mediabridge seems like a good replacement but i notice the cable is overinsulated and makes it very very difficult to bend. I just broke my OEM cable from my Thunderbolt and i dont want one that slips out like the one im using. Its annoying as hell. Gotta plug it in and slowly let go and pray it stays. Im looking for 6 foot. Anyhow. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Motorola cables are nice. A standard 3 footer plus a usb 3 foot extention will work well. Don't cheap out with the $1 cables. Go OEM Moto or HTC.

The media bridge cables do look nice...I just ordered one this week. The motos are solid... real solid when Amazon has them on prime deal.

[Q] Charging Cable

The wall UNIT is fine but the OEM cable doesnt work anymore.
I am using a old BLACKBERRY microUSB cable with it now and I noticed it charges a bit slower than the OEM.
Anyone have any suggestions on amazon or something for cables that are like close to OEM?
Thanks guys!
Why not address this with the company that sold you the phone?

Kindle replacement Micro USB Cable will get the job done perfect fit.
If you happen to own a kindle with worn out cable give Amazon a call and they will give you discount on it.

I had this problem took mine back to att gave me a new cord and ordered me a new battery dont know why but hey...got a spare...
Guys this is just s standard urn cable with a micro usb end. I actually have a thick BlackBerry cable plugged into the wall plug that came with my phone and everything is good.
Although I do remember the skyrocket, where people had to be really specific on what they used to charge their phones because if they didn't they would actually have a charging wake lock, but this doesn't seem to be the case on this phone!

Usb port tight fit?

When I put in my usb charger into my phone it feels like I have to give a good push it out it in. It makes me feel like it might break the charging port.
Anyone else ?

If you are using the provided usb cable then it should not be that tight as you are saying.
But there are many after-market usb cables which can be either too tight or too loose.
I would suggest you go to amazon.com and get the retail Samsung brand usb cable for the phone
and you should not have any problems. I got one from Amazon for less than $4 bucks shipped.
By having a usb cable which is really tight and hard to plug in it can eventually loosen the usb port on the phone.

Working 6FT micro usb charging cables

Does anyone know where I can get properly working 6ft micro usb cables that actually charge the phone?
I bought one off ebay and it was completly junk, my phone would drain faster than it would charge.
Something under $10 would be ideal.
Thanks

Amazon, purchase the mediabridge brand. About 6 bucks if I remember right.

Might also consider MonoPrice.com for your cables. They are cheap and supposed to be as reliable as any big brand.
Personally, I get the Amazon Basic cables, but so far I've only needed a maximum 3' cable.

Kindle charger
I use a 6ft white kindle charger and it works as well as OEM. If I recall correctly, it was only ~$10, I purchased it on Ebay.
@Amazon bought Samsung branded ones for $2.50 a pop. I've been buying and using these for years and have not had an issue yet.

I'd recommend Mediabridge. Here and here.

I bought a 3m, 9ft usb cable off ebay and works fine.
AmazonBasics USB Cable 2.0 A-Male to B-Micro 6 Feet / 1.8 m
Been using it for a month now. Charges the phone perfectly
I have bought many cables from digitalkynectonline on Ebay. The cables have held up very good. I have bought 6ft and 10ft cables and they are reasonably priced. The ends are molded unlike some of the cheap cables you get on ebay. The cord is heavier than than alot to and seems to take alot of abuse.
Try out PortaPow
I got this for my road trip and found it extremely effective in providing AC power when a normal cable (the one that came with my HTC) did USB charging.
This allowed me to charge while streaming music and navigation and kept the phone fully charged my whole road trip. It works in any computer or USB port to allow AC charging for your phone

I bought a few of those and they started having bad connections after a few weeks. The premium ones have a much better connector and seem more durable

Another vote for Mediabridge. Very inexpensive, very well constructed, and they stand by their products. Had one go bad and they replaced it very quickly. Great people to deal with.

Recommend a decent/reliable usb cable

I bought a bought 3M/10ft usb cable from eBay but the connection that goes into the phone is quite loose.
Can any recommend a quality/branded cable of that length from a UK stockist ?

That's hardly any help, do you not think he did that already?
To the OP, I can't recommend any specific cable to you, but I do have some experience with some of those "OEM chargers" that are often advertised on Amazon. I ordered 2 of them off amazon, and both of them were not actually OEM chargers and they both barely worked. One didn't even charge my phone (emailed the seller and got a refund, but it's the principle), and the other one had a faulty tip that didn't sit tight in my phone. The only thing I can suggest is being careful, sorry I can't link you a cable. Hope you find one.

Don't know if Amazon UK stocks same brand cables as Amazon US. As I replied to poster above, might want to try and do a little research to see what's best.

I have putchased the cheap ones off of amazon. Only use prime. Most work for several months. Expensive ones seem to work as well as the cheap ones. If I get one that does not work I ship it back at no cost. For $2 or $3 dollars a cable it is worth it.

I don't like buying cables chargers or batteries on amazon eBay or other similar sites. I've been burned a few times. Rather then taking my chances, I order from reputable company's only. I would recommend PowerByGen they are very good products. Check them out. http://www.powerbygen.com/Cables_c_12.html

I know this might seem out of left field, but Motorola's MicroUSB cables have always been incredibly reliable for me. They're made tough and any deep operations I may do (S-OFF, adb sideloading, etc) work flawlessly with them. They're not the perfect price like at monoprice.com but if you don't care about price and just want quality, Moto ain't too shabby.

Had this happen with mine a few months back. Ended up getting a wireless charger vs sending it back. Will warn you the more you play with the plug to get it to charge, the worse it will get.

This happened to mine as well. I have taken it apart and tightened the micro usb socket twice now. Works for a while but the overall design is the problem. This has always been a problem with micro usb and is why proprietary sockets are far superior to micro usb despite all the blather I hear about how convenient micro usb is. You can convert proprietary ports when needed and they dont fail like this.
My other two Android devices are like two years and both use micro USB, and they still work fine. It might be the design of the Nexus 7 itself.

I had this problem with my old Samsung Captivate. It would get so bad the cable would actually fall out. Have you tried a new cable? I thought my phone was damaged but I ordered a new OEM cable because I damaged the original and it also happened to fix the charging and loose connection issues. After a while, it happened again so I just ordered a few more cables on eBay. The reason I chose OEM cables was because the Captivate had a sliding door for the USB cable that often wouldn't accommodate a standard connector. After that experience, I try to stick with OEM cables when possible, just to be safe.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Free mobile app
Mine is different. The micro USB would perfectly fit into the port. I would feel and hear a confident strong click and the movement is minimal. However, it would not sometimes charge and have to play with the cable while at the port.
Funny... I though I was alone 'cause no one would write about it..
I got 3 cables, all with slight different behaviors but generally loose, one of them actually falls off.
Patience is highly and thoroughly tested when I want to transfer data to my nexus.
Mine is loose. I have to slip a piece of paper in with the cable to pack it. Otherwise it won't charge.
Mine is loose but that's my own doing lol but using a different usb mini seems to work

If it's covered under store warranty then sure, you can take it back. Otherwise I'd contact Asus about it.
