[Q] Swap in micro sim from Iphone 5 - LG Optimus G (International)

I have been on an Android phone since the OG Droid days and am very savvy with the Android OS. I also have been on Verizon my entire cell phone owning life.
Now my company has given me an AT&T iphone 5. I hate it. It seems to take an extra button press or two to accomplish the most simple tasks compared to any Android phone I have ever had.
Can I swap the micro sim out of my iphone 5 and into the LG Optimus G? Remember, my company owns this number/contract so I don't have any control what happens there. I'm hoping I can just do the swap myself and not let them know.
Oh, and there reasoning for not letting me have an Android phone? "Everyone here likes iphone, so why would you want something else?" Worst. IT. department. ever.
Yes, I am aware that i need an adapter to put the iphone 5's nano sim into the Optimus G's micro sim port.

Yes you can, assuming you use an adapter to convert to nanosim to a microsim, you'll be perfectly fine. Will work out of the box.

Should work via adapter, but you have to ask first, cause in our country, some plans like business/companies have some restrictions, so usually you cant just pull out the sim and use it in another phone.

Swapping Sim between HTC One & iPhone 5

So I will be getting the HTC One. I'm currently using an iPhone 5, and I want to be able to switch between the 2.
I know the iPhone 5 uses nano sim, and the HTC One uses micro sim, so I will have to buy an adapter.
However, will it even be possible to just switch sims, seeing as Verizon is CDMA?
Thanks!
I'm doing this same thing with my S4. You will have a SIM in the iPhone and a SIM in the HTC One.
You'll need to go onto the website and swap the active device on the line (takes like 5 mins, super easy).
Even if you could just drop the iPhone SIM into the HTC One (you can not), you'd still have to set the IMEI for the device to be the active device.
This is how they track data usage etc. Activation takes up to 15 minutes, but I noticed in my area in socal it took only 2 minutes.
There is no additional cost to swap or use a different device. Did this myself this morning, rep assured there is no charge but they do present a summary of what the line (your phone number) costs monthly. Not to be confused with the IMEI and SIM numbers (for which there is NO cost to swap, add, etc).

I've swapped my sim between at least 20 devices without ever needing to change anything on the verizon web page. The only time I have ever had to have any interaction with Verizon is when going from a nano to micro sim. However I've cut three micro sims to fit into iPhones without issue.

That's way too complicated. Just buy a $5 sim adapter off Amazon and voila. I switch between my s4 and iPhone on a weekly basis and have never had to call verizon or use the website.
With sim adapter I've been using the Same sim and switching between my galaxy s4, iPhone 5, bb Z10, and lumia 928.
Ok, so it looks like there are a couple different options, and now at least I know it's definitely possible to do easily.
Thanks for the replies everyone, you're awesome!

**EDIT** Ha! Snap, 600th post. Sorry, had to, I got excited for a second.
I went by a Verizon store today to purchase an HTC One. At the store, there was a sticker on the HTC One that said "NFC SIM required to activate". The sales person didn't know if my nano sim / adapter would work at all in the HTC One. We couldn't even test it, because he said I'd be charged a $35 restocking fee if it didn't work, and if I decided not to purchase... I decided not to take the risk.
Has anyone actually tried moving an iPhone 5 nano sim to an HTC One (using an adapter)?
Can an active nano sim (non-NFC sim) be used / moved a new HTC One, or is a NFC sim really required to activate??

I have not and I don't know the answer to your last question, however I've decided I'm just going to keep the nano sim in the iPhone and keep a sim in the htc one and when I want to switch I'll just go to VZW website and switch phones, like the first answer said. It's real simple so for me it's no big deal. I'd rather not put the wear and tear on the sim and sim tray.
I switch between my HTC One, SG3, and SG4 but they all have same size SIM.
I heard adapters can cause issues
gotta love how apple does everything different until it comes to software that was in Android light years before iOS
how do I tell if my SIM is NFC?
I am still using my SIM card I got when I bought Samsung s3

how do you figure???
iphone takes a nano sim card. much smaller
either need adapter, or ruin his sim and cut it to fit the iphone and then no way to get it to work on HTC One.
correct me please if I am wrong.

That's what the OP inquired about. With an adapter it will work. Sorry if I confused.

ohh, no need to apologize, I am sorry as well. I understand your post now.
Then why would Verizon put a giant sticker on the HTC One box, proclaiming an NFC sim was required? Placing my iPhone sim in the One (with adapter) will just work? Hopefully this is the case.

This will not work. As soon as you activate the One VZ will "burn" your i5 sim. Same thing going the other direction. VZ will not allow you to have two (2) working sim cards.

Verizon used to disable a SIM after its been used... i.e. SIM A in phone, switch to SIM B, SIM A is no longer usable. So your plan might now work.
Instead, you'll likely have to activate the Nano SIM for the iPhone 5, then use an adapter when moving your iPhone 5 SIM to another phone...
Two SIM adapter options are -> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B9YWB4/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or -> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ABEA7E/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (i've ordered each of those, so I know they work ).
i literally just reactivated my nano sim, stuck it in my iPhone to make sure it worked, and then put it into my One using an adapter. works fine
I guess you can call Verizon and have them send you a sim card.
.. but only one lol
got one coming. just in case ever need one
they send for free and doen't charge for the SIM if anyone every wants to save themselves a trip to the VZW store
I had them send NFC SIM, didn't realize i dont need it but oh well.
she actually sent me two because their systems were slow and she never asked my address and I said ur sending it to my appt right, and shes like.. no.
she was very nice, apologized for not asking, and instead said f it and said ill just send one to you and one to the original order cos their computers weer sucking lol

How do I maintain my Unlimited Data?

My Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will probably arrive on Wednesday. I purchased it at full price, as I was told to do to maintain my unlimited data.
When I receive my new phone, how do I ensure that my unlimited data gets switched over to the new phone? What is the procedure at that point? Do I use the same SIM card from my DROID RAZR MAXX or do I use the new one? Can I switch my unlimited data plan from my DROID RAZR MAXX onto my new Galaxy Note 4 from the website? If so, what buttons do I click to ensure the process is done correctly? Or should I go into the Verizon Wireless Store for help or should I just call?

If you bought N4 full retail, then you only need to go through the phone replacement process at VZW website and follow the direction. You'll need the sim card from your old phone.

Don't worry, it's actually a pretty easy process. You won't lose your Unlimited since you didn't buy under contract. Here's the FAQ from VZW's website that walks you through the process. (you will have to type it in from the screenshot....apparently I haven't posted but one time in 4 years...lol) Good luck!

I'm on the website, now, just taking a look at it. I clicked on my line, I see two buttons:
-Manage My Device
-Upgrade My Device
Which is it? I'm thinking clicking on Upgrade My Device will do nothing, since I ordered a new phone already on that line. Help, please. Thanks. I'll need to do this on Wednesday when I do receive my phone.
Take SIM card from old phone and use it in new phone. If you have a micro sim just order a SIM card cutter to make it nano size. As long as it's a 4g SIM card it should activate the new phone fine. Also you could've went through bestbuy upgrade process they allow you to choose keep existing data plan but the key to keep unlimited data is to always use the old SIM card and immediately discard the SIM card that ships with the phone. Don't even power on the device until the sim is gone.

So, when my Galaxy Note 4 arrives, remove its SIM card (if already inserted), remove the SIM card from my old phone, and then insert it into the Galaxy Note 4, and THEN power it on. Correct? After I do that, do I need to do anything more? If so, then what?

I think this is inaccurate, according to Samsung's site, it's a Micro SIM, so that should be the same size as my DROID RAZR MAXX's SIM card. I think I read somewhere that iPhones have NANO SIMs. Oh well, I'll find out tomorrow if it fits without modifying it.
Question: I'd ordered 3 different replacements for my MAXX while under warranty. To switch between them, all I did was did a backup and restore, and of course, used the same SIM card. Going to my new Galaxy Note 4, will the upgrade process pretty much be the same or do I have to click buttons on Verizon's site or call them or go into the store?

That would depend on what you want backed up. Try using the app Helium from the play store. I posted a link to the app in your other thread on this question.

Actually this thread has little to do with "Backup & Restore". I purchased the Galaxy Note 4 at full price, as what the current deal is to maintain your unlimited data. That, is obviously step one. When the phone arrives, I know I'm suppose to transfer the SIM card. I did the same thing when I had to get a replacement DROID RAZR MAXX for my DROID RAZR MAXX, and my phone instantly worked. My question was simply, is that all I need to do, or are there steps, afterwards? Will VZW instantly recognize my change in phone by simply changing out the SIM cards from old phone to new phone or is it different since it involves two completely different models? Is/are there other step(s) involved?

From everything I've read (because I had the same question) there would be no difference. You should just be able to put your old SIM card in the new phone, turn it on and it will do the rest. Granted, I have never done this myself so I am just going off of what I read. As for the statement that this thread has little to do with the Backup & Restore, I was only answering your question you posed in this thread. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the question. That's what I get for spending so much time reading these forums tonight. My mind cross references other posts that have nothing to do with what I'm reading.
Since you paid full price there really isn't any threat to losing your unlimited data even if you need to activate a new sim card because there will be no need to renew your contract. You can even call Verizon and have them help you activate the new phone just tell them you paid full price. I did this when my wife got a Moto X that was paid full price for.

Joshskorn, seems like people is going to confuse you. Here is the real deal and I have done this many times.
*** You only lose unlimited data if you UPGRADE your device. Activation is not impact your unlimited data.
So in your case, when you received your new no contract phone you have many options and they all SAFE to do:
1) First power off your OLD device, then take your compatible SIM from your old phone and put into the new one. Power on the new phone. It will automatic activate the new device and disable the old device. I found this method is NOT WORKING 100%, it's a hit and miss. If you see the message Activation failed, then try a few more times, if not working, just call VZW customer service and they will help you. You will need to provide them with your phone ID/ESN etc... piece of cake.
2) Use your new SIM (I would recommend this because it's brand new and all the contacts are new), call VZW customer service and activate it. You will need to provide ID and ESN from the label on the box and they will activate it for you..piece of cake.
If you have any more question, please don't hesitate to ask.
The process was even easier than I thought. I turned off my old phone, called the number enclosed with my new Galaxy Note 4, and read the agent the MEI and the ICCID number on the label of my new GN4. That number, was 1-877-807-4646. I asked the agent 3 times just to make sure that I still have my unlimited data, because I'd "heard" you're suppose to transfer the SIM card. He told me "No" and that I'm basically good to go.

[Q] I Cant Get iPhone Nano Sim (W/ Adapter) To Work In LG Optimus F180L

Please help, i hate this damn iPhone 5.
I have a Korean LG Optimus G F180L with CyanogenMod 11, which uses a Micro Sim.
I also have a iPhone 5 (AT&T) which uses a Nano Sim.
I bought a sim card adapter, and to be brief, i cannot get the LG Optimus G to work with the iPhone sim card. The LG reboots like its supposed to, but when it powers up it just says "No Service" at the bottom of the screen. It recognizes that there is a sim it just doesnt connect to my mobile network. I was also unable to find a clear tutorial anywhere to help me troubleshoot. I have the feeling i am missing something blatantly obvious. Is it even possible to get this to work?
I would consider myself pretty competent when it comes to rooting/jailbreaking phones, and im generally able to figure out these things myself, but i have zero experience with cyanogenmod, and i really dont want to do anything that would wreck either of my devices. Any help at all is appreciated.

How do I use my old phone on wireless?

Moderators: Let me preface this by saying that I know this doesn't belong in THIS particular forum. Feel free to move it wherever you wish. I wasn't sure where else to put it. That said...
I'm sure this could, at some point, apply to the Galaxy Note 4. However, for my old Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX, when I got my Note 4, the rep on the phone that upgraded me, had me read him the new IMEI number on the Note 4 and he ported my information over. The old SIM chip is still in my DROID RAZR MAXX. I actually haven't powered on my old DROID RAZR MAXX, SINCE upgrading.
I would like to use my old phone just for testing purposes. I am, however, afraid, and honestly, unknowledgeable as to what would happen if I do power it on. It's a Verizon phone as well. Will it be able to access Verizon Data 4G? If I turn it on, will I get some sort of bill for it? Let me make it clear, that I ONLY want to use it as a Wi-Fi device. I don't want to give Verizon any sort of impression that I'm trying to activate a line, and again, I admittingly don't' know how these sort of things function. Do I remove the SIM chip? Will it even boot to Android without the SIM chip? What should I even do with the old SIM chip, then, is it safe to leave it in the phone if I get rid of the phone (i.e. sell it or drop it in the dumpster where someone else can get to it)? The phone was FDR'd a few times before upgrading to the Note 4.
The old sim card is deactivated. They phone will not allow you to connect to the data network. You can use the phone on wifi with or without the old sim card.

Sim, AT&T, micro adapter, activation

Got a 2XL on order. Trying to get ready. It is listed as having a nano-SIM. I currently have an old Xperia ZL, which is a Micro SIM. I use AT&T.
I am pretty sure this means I need to go to AT&T and activate and buy a SIM, is that right? Which probably means an activation fee? No alternatives, or will they likely be happy I stay and waive fee? Any good paths to do this cheapest? Any expectation they will have trouble provisioning it?
But the other question relates to the SIM. Just in case (especially if later I decide to try to flash it) I want to be able to use the ZL as a backup. I have a micro-to-standard adapter I did for using the Galaxy S2 for a while. I see there are nano-to-micro adapters out there. Anyone have a specific recommendation that works, or are they all pretty much the same piece of cut plastic?
I assume unless I want Project FI there's no chance the eSIM works for AT&T, right?

When I got the Nexus 6p 2 years ago, I was in the same boat. I just ordered a sim cutter from amazon for 10 bucks, and an adapter for 6 bucks. I cut my micro sim to make it a nano. Then, if I need to, I can take the nano, put it in a micro sim adapter tray, and use it in my Note 4 if I need to for a backup. Worked like a charm. I suspect it will work for you as well :good:
If you walk into an At&t store and ask for a new nano SIM card, they should NEVER charge you. I've done this multiple times, they just give you a new one.
Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I didn't even consider you could cut the sim; that looks easy and the $5 +/- cutters come with the adapters, so even if I get AT&T to give me a SIM that would give me an adapter.
So there's no provisioning or settings on the AT&T side that are needed to use the XL2?
