I think all would agree that an official Cyanogen CM9 build for the Fire would be the best thing that can happen. I went to the Cyanogen forum asking them about a CM9 for the Kindle Fire.
A staff response was this:
Talk to one of those xda devs and see if they are working on getting the code into the CM tree. As long as someone is willing to maintain it to whatever standards CM requires (of which, I don't know... they would need to contact a dev or submit it to find out), I doubt CM would turn away the code to incorporate it into the official tree.

So are you of the opinion that there's a high likelihood that we will be seeing an official CM9 release for the Fire? Because I looked at the devices Cyanogen plans to support with CM9, and the Kindle Fire wasn't on that list.

Once they get stuff working properly I'm pretty sure it will then get added to the official CM9 section. I could be wrong though so don't quote me on that lol.

Can someone explain the advantages of CM9 over CM7, I loaded the current build of ICS and I could not see any advantage at all, matter of fact it ran quadrant bench mark slower then CM7.
Also is the quadrant bench mark a good way the measure on rom against the other, I've been setting up each rom, MiUi, cm7, ics , running quadrant, then adding V6 supercharger, then the 2 different kernals etc. to see which combo gives my fire the best performance. Is there a better way to compare ?

It's all personal preference, some people just want the latest and greatest ROM and will deal with not having some stuff working. Some need a more stable ROM for whatever reason. I really don't pay to much attention to quadrant scores as long as a ROM performs nicely for me that's what matters.
Also with the Kernels, although I haven't tried any on my Fire yet I do know that they will perform differently on different peoples hardware. Like on the Evo 4g Alot of people like a certain kernel and it works great for them, but when I try it on mine it's not so great and I get random reboots and other weird things going on.
As long as any combo of Rom/Kernel works for you the way you need your fire to run then I would just stick with it.

CM7 is an operating system designed for mobile phones, that is more or less tweaked and patched into looking ok on a tablet.
CM9 is designed for tablets, and has a lot of features that you don't get in CM7.
And finally, comparing the quadrant scores of a 'nearly stable' ROM (CM7) to a pre-alpha that doesn't have 100% working drivers (CM9) isn't exactly apples to apples.

Why do people keep saying cm 9 is specifically for tablets? CyanogenMod keeps all its maintained devices on the latest Android version regardless of if it's a phone or tablet. Also, isn't the only devices officially running ICS, phones? However, from what i understand, the way Google is doing things is that ICS isn't specific to being a phone or tablet OS but rather both a phone and tablet OS
No. Xoom got ICS today, Samsung Galaxy Tab is going to be getting it. They essentially built on top of Honeycomb to bring the same/a similar experience to mobile phones.
The entire interface between a phone with ICS, and a tablet with ICS are completely different. Give it a try, and you'll see why it's a tablet OS, as compared to CM9.
Oh, and in regards to the CyanogenMod questions: CM has versions. So CM7 is Gingerbread, CM8 would have been honeycomb, and CM9 is ICS. That sounds like what he said, but it's not true at all. The CM9 build maintained by JackpotClavin has a great tablet UI and it's a seriously promising ROM. It's way more tablet-y than CM7. I just wish I could figure out a way to use the dead space at the top and bottom (portrait) or on the sides (landscape). I could stick a weather widget in there or something.

CM9 is nice, but I have a pretty good CM7 tablet experience as well. Which I will stick with until CM9 is ready (it's not IMO).
I use ADW. I have the Dock bar completely hidden and have the desktop set to expand. Notification bar is hidden and can be brought back with a simple swipe down. Swipe up show's notifications. Volume Control is used. You can see it at the top in the top pic. It is set to disappear after a couple seconds. Same thing with Button Mapper. Everything is themed to look like ICS.
AOKP still the best for kindle

I suggest gedeROM, SGT7, or Glazed ICS. All three of these ROMs have lots of features and are very stable.

This is kind of like asking what is the best tasting ice cream; everyone will have their favorites, but there is no definitive answer. I found the best thing to do is like what you started to do; try each one and see what works for you and what doesn't. I tried a few CM9 ROMs and each of them did not have the battery life that I wanted, so I am sticking with Modaco's rooted stock until CM9 is more efficient. Good luck in finding the ROM that works for you
I got my kindle fire a little over a week ago and I think I have flashed nearly every ICS ROM that has an active forum thread. I keep switching between them all hoping to make up my mind but mostly I forget which is which lol.

I have installed 9 different ROMs. I like GlazedICS. It is responsive and very good on connectivity, battery life, and eye candy.
So I've gotten myself a Nexus 7 and the plan for the Kindle is to pass it on to my dad. While I'm okay hacking around on the device, and flashing all sorts of roms, he most definately isn't. So I'm looking for the most stable rom that there is. I want to just set it and forget it. I don't care if it's ICS or GB. I just want to to be rock solid. The least bugs, the longest battery life, the least maintenance. What do you guys think?
Personally, if I were giving a kf to a family member I would take it back to stock. If you want to give him access to the Google Play Store then install Modaco. I think either of those options offer the best battery and are completely trouble free.

I really appreciate your input, but I really like open systems, and I also really like community projects, so something based on Cyanogen would be greatly prefered. I will consider Modaco if I can't find anything else that works though.

I've found that the GedeROM is very stable, has exceptional battery life and has limited OTG support for expandability. Everything works, it's a ICS ROM and it's really fast and smooth.
I highly recommend it.
More features include Beats Audio, Disabled in-app ads, and access to the full store, that is, you can see all apps even if they aren't supported for the fire.
HD videos like YouTube work great.

Can anyone reccomend a solid, fast and battery-friendly ROM for my old Epic? Currently I use Paranoid Android, and while very nice, the battery life and speed of opening apps and such is disappointing.

nope. I"ll give it a whirl but i have no interest in flashing a new rom every week or so - only intersted in stables, not nightlies

I've had issues with some stables as well as some nightly's myself, so I don't think it makes too much of a difference IMO on what it's technically called. I'm currently on the 20130101 build of CM10.1 and have been running it for over a month with only one random reboot and no issues at all. If you don't use bluetooth then I'd recommend it.
Do you mean F-A-S-T really? CM7.2 runs fastest amongst all plain, untouched ROMs on my device.
I know CM10.1 is buttery smooth, but it's still Android 4.x. It still bogs a yearold phone down somewhat (you may not feel that, anyway, I don't feel bogged down THAT much but it counts). And that's where a very clean 2.3 build like CM7 come in handy. Plus app compatibility is better, if you're not into Android 4.x specific apps.

Thanks. I"ll give both those a shot. It needs to be fast and stable because im giving my wife my old phone, and she is not nearly as technically minded as I am - i just upgraded to a Galaxy S III with LTE - and I'm hooked. Only drawback is the GS3 needs a physical keyboard variant.
If its for someone not technical you should use either CM7 or The Peoples Rom. They seem to have the best battery life and are the most stable.

CM7 and the GB TouchWiz roms seem to be the most speed and battery-efficient roms for our devices, but honestly the newer JB roms like PACMan/Provision/CM10/etc. have been pretty damn stable and impressive, depending on how you use it.

The camera quality is pretty poor...much like the iPod4g's camera. It's definitely nothing to brag about.

Not yet but developers are hard at work on it. In all fairness, I think very few people thought it would even get this far. You'll just have to be patient.
When CM9 was first ported to the original KF, we had no sound, no hardware acceleration, constant SODs, and it wouldn't charge. That was about a year ago. Now they have quite bit of development and several fully working ROMS based on CM10, CM10.1 AOKP and AOSP along with good developer support.
With access to custom recovery and amazing developers like Hashcode and Fattire, it's only a matter of time until the HDs are in the same boat.
