Motorola phones have a wonderful recovery tool called Safestrap that allows you to install multiple RIMs on the phone, and switch between them at boot.
You leave the stock install as the 'unsafe' partition and don't edit it.
Then you create 'safe' partitions where you can install and modify to your heart's content. Without having to constantly wipe/reinstall and always having a working phone.
There's also a multi-boot manager in the Play store [ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.drx2.bootmanager.lite] that supports a bunch of HTC, Motorola, and soon Samsung phones.
Has anyone tried any of these on the Optimus G?
I'm currently running uprooted with a locked bootloader , on the latest Rogers firmware, so can't test these. (Yet.)

Hi guys,
Long time iPhone user converted to android with the new HTC One M8.
I have recently purchased the HTC One M8 from my local Three store. Now the phone has a three splash screen and limited bloatware.
I understand that updates to android can be delayed as they are pushed via three.
What would be the general procedure to flash/update the phone to:
1. Remove three splash screen and associated bloatware to keep it as if it was bought simfree.
2. Would the current custom roms available achieve the above and be compatible with UK handset?

Hi,
i'm also on three, should receive mine on monday so I can't confirm for certain. But if my memory serves me correctly, the cid and mid must match the stock rom that you are trying to flash. So at this time you won't be able to flash the newest unbranded stock firmware. This will require s-off. However i can highly recommend unlocking through htcdev and flashing a custom rom. Android revolution hd is an excellent choice for your htc device and will be fine on your handset.
Hi pheonixsingh, I also have a HTC One M8 from three. I can confirm that flashing a custom ROM will remove the three splash, remove three applications and shortcuts, the phone is fully compatible.
I'd recommend you flash without delay!!!

Thanks for the prompt replies!
I think I will go down the route of flashing the custom rom, however I still have some questions about future updates to the custom rom, how would I go about updating my phone?
My biggest concern is everytime I have to update I may lose my data or personal setup as I will have to wipe the phone and install the new version? Is this the case or am I misunderstood and updates can be done via PC/OTA whereby all your personal apps/settings/data is intact?
When updating ROMs, on most occasions you can retain your application data by not formatting the user/data partitions. However when the changes are significant the author may recommend a full wipe.
The first time you root and install a custom ROM, you will lose all data on your internal sd card so back everything up on your PC or external SD card.
After you unlock (S-OFF) your phone for the first time you will never be asked to format your sdcard, which contains camera pics or any other files you've placed. You'll only lose applications which you can download from the play store again. For me it's never been an issue when I owned a Nexus 4 and 5 I used to hop between ROMs daily.

I
I have one of these on 3 the only thing is the splash screen. Any idea where I can get a copy of the stick firmware
The custom firmwares are all well and good, however when a new base comes along, which happened often on the One (M7), carrier phones i.e. 3, would sometimes need to wait for them to issue the official update, as the base firmware is different on the WWE rom. Hopefully we will have S-OFF soon and then that won't be an issue for a lot of us.
I have come from Samsung and the nexus. So is it not as simple as flashing the stock unbranded firmware
Since, Koodo has started carrying G3 (model D852) i bought one and i want to start using custom ROMs (coming from Nexus 5)
but, before i start the process of root and recovery, etc i want to make sure that i have a backup plan i.e. stock koodo factory image for G3
i have been searching all over xda and could not find one, could someone please help me with this.
Also, i am use to installing custom roms, it seems the procedure for LG G3 is much different from Nexus phones ( i owned all of them except N6). So, if i understand it correctly
First, i need to root my device
second, i need to install custom recovery using BUMP
third, i can only install ROM that have been built with BUMP
thanks for the help
Bump!
I have a Sprint LG G2 LS980 running KIT Kat 4.2.2 with TWRP installed. I was prompted to install a system update, & after I did, when I rebooted device it remained stuck in TWRP. Thanks to the amazing people @ XDA, I was able to find some commands to run in TWRP terminal which enabled to load OS. The issue now is that I am prompted with an update once again. Will this become a trend, or is there something that I need to change in order for this device to remain stable, and run smooth again? Thanks!

Yes you will keep getting updates. Because you have retired and custom recovery it will fail always

So what are my options? Must I flash the stock recovery, or leave as is?
How do I configure device to be capable of updating? Thanks!

First main concern of yours should be which service provider you are on. Sprint or another.

Sprint
Just flash with the updated stock rom available on xda

Sounds simple enough. Thanks for the input!
it involves changing the bootloaders on a g900v device to a g900t device I was on the factory img firmware for a g900v avaliable for download on gemflash.com under firmwares and I rooted using king root and bootloader unlocked using getex bootloader unlock thread on xda under s5 Verizon section I used the adb method on getex thread then I installed supersu via the supersu me App installed BusyBox and installed flashfire app and downloaded the factory Img firmware for g900t also on gemflash.com under firmwares onto my g900v and flashed it in flashfire with the flash bootloader option checked and clicked all partitions also did a full wipe everything checked in wipe and also all options in cache did a reboot to download got the developer mode line to disappear in odin mode so the aboot bootloader at least changed the only thing that didn't change was the modem for some reason and I could not find a twrp flashable g900t modem zip in Samsung kies 3 the phone says it is a g900t in almost all the lines except one I assume the modem file I deleted all the security related system apps in twrp under file manager in advanced section and also Knox apps and phone test App also
But i managed to hard brick my device when I tried to bootloader unlock my phone again because it was bootloader locked after the flashfire firmware flash
So yeah it is recoverable but my SD card dies and no one has made a Debrick IMG for the factory img firmware yet and probably won't. to the best of my knowledge Sorry I can't post screens shots as my phone is currently a brick
In download mode the phone had both the lines as official
Just curious but what would be your reasoning for wanting this?
You wouldn't be able to use the "Advanced Calling" features (HD Voice and Video Calling/Wifi Calling) anymore.
Unless you want to switch to T-Mobile in which case you should just get a new phone. IMHO you should probably get a new phone if you want to stay on Verizon anyways. Development is pretty much dead when it comes to the S5.
I want to be able to make a g900v a g900t because there is a more development for it and it is easier to work with than locked down big red and development is still going for the s5 verizon it has a nougat 7.1 rom
Sent from my iPhone 4s using Tapatalk I also own a g900v
And I just hate big red that much I'm not a fan of verizon there rather sh*tty
Sent from my iPhone 4s using Tapatalk I also own a g900v
I have put out a plea on xda under s5 Verizon section and under s5 t-mobile section for Debrick IMG if anybody provides one I will keep working on this project

I would like to change the bootscreen to something else like play the game "Mario" or change it to something cool? I know past Android phones from older Android versions I was able to do that after I unlocked bootloader and achieved root. Though I'm having difficulties doing it on my moto g fast (boost mobile)
On another note I'm also having trouble flashing custom roms, I end up in a boot loop and end up having to flash the stock firmware back onto the phone to get it back up and running. I Have Twrp recovery and Magisk. I am rooted it says.
