[Q] Flashing a ROM after upgrading - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello, I upgraded my S3 to the new jelly bean update via KIES. I don't really like the stock feel and look. I was rooted and had a rom flashed for the old droid razr maxx I used to have. Is there a way I can root and flash a new rom over the newly upgraded JB software? I downloaded the s3 toolkit but it shows rooting for the ICS. I am afraid I will brick my new S3 and I don't want that to happen. I just want to get a custom rom going for better battery life and the other additional options. Could someone please offer some insight?

Try here; there are pre-rooted, but otherwise stock, Jelly Bean images and instructions for flashing them that should fit your needs.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I recommend you flash the stock rooted ICS ROM first. Look in the dev section for Mr.Robinson's thread. Has everything you need. The reason I suggest ICS rooted is because jb has the new boot loader which raises the flash counter if you use a custom recovery. Also read the thread to back up your efs folder.better safe than sorry.

[Q] just rooted my att gs3, need help flashing rom

I have rooted my gs3 and need help. I am on stock rooted 4.0.4 ics. I want to go to the latest pacman rom. What do I need to do?
Have you installed a recovery?
Download GooManager if you want TWRP or ROM Manager if you want CWM recovery.
Either one will allow you to flash a compatible ROM.
I really like TWRP. User interface is easy. Goo.im app makes it easy to find compatible ROMS to flash for your device. I don't know if PACMAN is on goo, tho.

If you are on stock ics you'll most likely need to update your bootloader after you update your recovery if it isn't updated already.
You'll need to go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
This will need to be done before you flash almost any rom that's been updated in the last couple weeks.
You might be up to date but I doubt it.

Definitely go with TWRP. The user interface is much friendlier than CWM. It is also really good from the standpoint of being careful when wiping or installing things with their "slide to ____" feature.

[Q] Sprint GS3 - Unroot to stock 4.3?

So a couple of days ago I got a GS3 running the OTA stock 4.3. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use it because I find Touch Wiz kind of clunky. So I decided I would try out Cyanogenmod. I installed it via their new handy installer (as the sprint GS3 is one of the compatible devices). All went well and I got Cyanogenmod 10.2 running smoothly. Now I want to activate the device, but apparently you can't activate a rooted device on sprint. So now i need to get it back to stock 4.3 and I can only seem to find solutions to his problem for devices that have not gotten the 4.3 OTA update and are still running 4.1.2. On the Cyanogenmod installer guide says:
You may perform a full backup from recovery, after flashing recovery (you will have to do this manually, at the moment) and then copy it off the device, if you don't have an external sdcard. If you've already run the installer, you will have to find stock images and flash them using fastboot or Odin.

My problem Is I can't locate any stock 4.3 images with which to try this. If I can get my hands on a stock 4.3 image, would the process be just going into the bootloader and using Odin to flash the 4.3 image?
Can anyone help me out?
You only need to be on a stock tw rom, even if you are rooted it should activate. There are a couple in the development section.

I see, do you know of any any good 4.3 based tw roms? All the ones I'm finding are based on 4.1. Also, do I need to do anything special to flash from Cyanogenmod 10.2 to a touchwiz rom (as Cyanogenmod is AOSP)? I already have ClockworkMod recovery installed.
Nothing special, flash like anything else

Bricked... Which rom to recover

So I need some advice on which ROM to flash back on my phone. I am new to custom ROMs and managed to hard brick my phone. I am going to try a Jig to see if I can get into download mode, however, if I do that I am not sure what ROM to flash back onto my phone. It's a galaxy S3 i747. When this all started I was running JB 4.1.1 on it. Then I flashed CM10 and that went great. After I flashed CM10 my phone said that I was on JB 4.3. Did CM update JB and the bootloader? I know that trying to flash an older bootloader can cause troubles. Afater I had CM running I tried to flash LeanKernel and this is when I bricked my phone. So my questions is, do I need to flash the ROM for JB4.1.1 or for JB 4.3? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look buddy, the first thing you want to do is flash the latest STOCK rom for you're model. After you've done that you can now backup you're stock rom via recovery (TWRP recommended), after that you now have a stable rom to return to just in case you fail to flash a custom rom. And I would recommend one of the stock mod roms to get the use of all of Samsung's exclusive features. Good luck, and feel free to ask any more questions.

Hey thanks. I really appreciate the help. I got in a little over my head so I'm just trying to get ahead of the learning curve as quick as possible. Now I've searched around for the stock 4.3 flash able ROM and am having trouble finding a clear cut download for it. Do you have a recommendation of where I can find the JB 4.3 stock to flash with ODIN?

There isn't an odin flashable 4.3 rom for i747. The last thing there is is 4.1.1 then the 4.3 you would take as an ota. I highly doubt cm updated your bootloader. Floating around the forums is an sd unbrick method. You could try that. I don't have experience with it, but quite a few people have. Good luck.

Maybe this would work : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498233 Do some research on it first then let me know. And if you want a good and stable custom rom I recommend using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504903. Just don't choose the note 3 option, choose the stock.

This is the rom I used to root it a year ago when I got the phone. Would this be a suitable choice to un-brick my phone?

That is only a method used to root you're phone, not to unbrick it.

But to root I flashed a ROM with Odin. The ROM is linked on that page. At least that is my understanding of how rooting works. Wouldn't that've a good ROM to use to un-brick?

Not entirely sure. Never updated to 4.3 on a stock ROM. It was on JB 4.1 before I flashed CM10. However once I flashed CM10 the settings page said my phone was on JB 4.3. So not sure if the bootloader got updated or not.
Thanks so much everyone for the help. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately the Jig did not work, so it is all a moot point in the end. Looks like the phone is going off to get JTAGed.

need to restore phone but how do I keep jelly bean ?

I hope someone can help with a dilemma I have.
I need to flash back to stock rom and do a factory reset on my AT&T SGIII - this I know how to do . However, what I don't know is if the links I've found for tar files for a stock restore (like the one posted here)are for the ice cream sandwich version that launched with the phone, or the newer jelly bean version.
If it is the older version, once I'm done restoring it back to stock and factory settings, will I get an option to update to jelly bean thru AT&T?
Or do I need to find a stock AT&T jelly bean file to flash? If so, where do I find that?
any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you update your phone to AT&T 4.3 stock rom via an OTA update? If you did, do not flash any rom that includes an older bootloader as the flash will brick your phone.

No. Ever since going to the Sonic FreeGS3 Resurrection rom, I have been on the 4.1.1 version. I've never been to a more current version than that since that was the last version update for this rom and I liked it just fine.
Even though I'm not wild about having to return to stock, I am at least excited about (hopefully) being able to go up to the latest version released by AT&T. But I wasn't sure if I need to flash a stock 4.3 version AT&T rom (or even where to find that) or if I could just flash the original released stock rom and then be prompted with OTA updates to go to the newer versions.
Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated.
The latest version of the AT&T ROM is 4.3 which can be done via an OTA update or Kies from a stock 4.1.1 AT&T ROM.
Any reason you need to return to stock? Personally, I would not go near 4.3 as it's not required to install KK ROMS and, once on 4.3, rooting, etc. becomes more complicated.

I have to for work. That's the only reason I'm going back to a stock rom. Plus I want to trade my phone in after a few more months once my contract is up.

[Q] can i flash older roms on my GS3

Ok so i am on 4.3 with bootloaders and modem, with a 4.3 rom
is it safe for me to flash a 4.1.2 rom and still keep the same modem and bootloader.
so for example i am rooted running a stock rom with a custom recovery, and i want to flash the rom 4.1.2 Axis (SDS) rom will it be safe for me to do so or do i risk the possibility of bricking my device.
NOTE:
I have bricked my device and used a method posted i think in the general forums of the gs3 to unbrick it, so if possible don't want to go through that experience again if you know what i mean

Yes, it's safe - Just make sure you don't flash a older modem/baseband or bootloaders. Although, there's no reason to go back to 4.1.2, it was awful for our device. Then again, it's your decision!
Ok i just wasnt sure and i liked the rom because i had a fantastic experience with battery life and performance. Plus it has the v6 supercharger script which i dont know how to setup on any other rom my self
