The default setting was set on GSM/WCDMA.
I have a rogers S3 so I changed the setting to LTE/GSM/WCDMA. It was working for a bit then my mobile data completely crapped out and i was only able to make voice calls. I switched it back to GSM/WCDMA and it works, however, the speeds are much slower compared to LTE.
Im not even sure if I was getting LTE at all at the LTE/GSM/WCDMA setting... since the phone only diplays 3g/H+ on the signal bar, it does not say LTE.
I checked the phones status and it did say LTE:3 when i was set on LTE, however, this is when the data was not working and the phone said not connected to network.
Set it to lte in the apn section and then reset your phone.
4g symbol is Lte speed

I was just wondering what network settings Sprint users are you for the best signal?? What I mean is what preferred network type are you using. I have noticed since I roam at home mine is mostly on unknown but a fresh boot up of stock starts on GSM/cdma auto prl. But I get the best signal when I change it to cdma auto prl. On GSM/cdma auto prl I'm roaming but I don't get any bars and data connection turns on and off but cdma auto prl I get at least one bar in and out but data stays connected and all my texts and calls come straight through. On any other setting its no telling when I'll receive a notification could be hours or days long as I'm home. But I have noticed that having it on cdma auto prl I get slower speeds like it picks evdo rev: 0:7 and fluctuates between that rev A and 1x. There is another setting in a different menu I can't really remember what it's called I forgot the dialer code to get to the menu I think it's like ehrpd or something like that. Any help or opinions greatly appreciated I think there are settings that are making this phone so slow on data my Photon is a lot faster on 3g than my nexus but Motorola will lie about your signal unless you know better but its always got a stronger signal and faster connection. One more question does a kernel have anything to do with good or bad signals I see my phone acts different with different kernels like stronger signal faster connection and vice versa.
Thank you

Hey guys, just flashed my HTC G2 with CM 7.1 yesterday and it was working fine with the Tmobile network (I got 4g speeds and 2g speeds just fine in respective places.)
Now, today, I don't get ANY data. Usually, next to my signal bars there will be a "H" for 4g or "2" for 2g however theres nothing next to my bars. I have full bars (like I normally do) but I can't do anything data wise. I can however, make calls and texts. Heres some screenshots of the info from my phone.
Attached two pics of info of my phone
It seems like my mobile network state says its "Disconnected" which is weird...
Any help would be appreciated!
was this your first rom? did you wipe before flash? did you change radio version? have you checked your apn?
my best guess is you need to enter the proper apn
or for some further diagonostics go into the dialer and type
#*#*4636*#*#
make sure your radio is on (I assume it is or you wouldn't be able to make calls) check to see if you are wcdma prefered

Hey guys, I recently switched to wind mobile and I have a galaxy s2 X from Telus unlocked. The data speeds on wind are good for my usage, however, I've noticed that my phone keeps switching from UMTS to HSPA. While on HSPA the speeds are great. But it switches down to UMTS randomly. I know that its a system built into the network to switch to HSPA as soon as I start using data. But the problem is that sometimes it never switches and data becomes painfully slow even if I have 5 bars. Is there any way to fix this? To force HSPA at all times. I remember HSPA was on at all times while I was with mobilicity.
Please help, its really frustrating. The *#*#4636#*#* thing doesn't work also in the dialer.

If you're on stock, there might be an option in Settings>More>Mobile Settings. Check to see if there is an option for HSPA only, it may be set to HSPA/GSM.

basically it boils down to the tower you're connected to, there are 5 times as much customer on Wind than on Mobilicity, so every tower is taxed, specially in heavy populated areas
I've had a Sprint Galaxy Nexus for about 4 months and have never seen a 4G indication. It's non-rooted, running stock Jellybean with FH05 radios.
I live in Houston and have also traveled to Chicago, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles with this phone without ever seeing a 4G indication. I looked at the Sensorly 4G maps in Houston and drove along the 4G routes for a couple hours and never got any 4G signal.
I've played around with the *#*#4636#*#* menu but I haven't found anything that made any difference. Most of the posts say to select "LTE Only", but my menu does not have that option. It is currently set to "GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL)".
Can anyone think of something I'm missing? I'm eligible for an upgrade next month but I was planning to stick with the GNex a few more months. This 3g-only crap is killing me. I was hoping to keep the phone stock so I can pass the phone off to my mom/wife when I upgrade (without having to revert to stock), but it looks like I might have to root/rom it if I can't find a better answer.
crying for help :crying:
I would say after typing in the secret menu code, turn off the radio and turn it back on; see if that does anything.
Are you sure their isn't a LTE Only option? It should be at the bottom like the last option.'
If you're really that desperate for LTE, you might have to root your phone and flash a radio (which isn't too horribly hard to do) or change the PRL manually.

I've tried turning the radio off/on. I don't see an LTE Only option in the menu, but I'll check again to make sure.
I'm beginning to think that I may need to root/flash to get it going. I was hoping that having one of the nexus phones would get me away from flashing half-working ROM's every couple weeks, but it looks like I'm headed back that way :silly:.
Thanks for the suggestions
4G works just fine stock. If it isn't working for you now it most likely still won't work if you root and flash a different ROM. 4G maps aren't all that accurate and 4G signals drop in level fast when there are things between you and the tower. Either something is wrong with your phone or you just haven't been in an area which a strong enough 4G signal for your phone to pick it up. Make sure your phone is set to CDMA/LTE in the mobile network settings and not to CDMA only.

How do you know your area has LTE? Do you know someone who has your carrier that gets LTE? If you're going by a coverage map, as said before, blah. You shouldn't need to tamper with your phone to get LTE. Try contacting your provider if your that concerned. The setting you have in the secret menu does a lot. Make sure that its set to something that allows LTE. Even my GSM HSPA+ nexus has an LTE Only option.

Thing with sprint ive noticed is it uses whatever signal is the strongest. So while you may have 4g coverage, if your 3g is even a signal signal strength higher, it always uses that. You should be able to force lte, but from what I've read that causes calls and SMS/MMS to break until you revert back to auto.

I had the same suspicion about the coverage maps which is why it took so long for me to post for help. Recently I sat in the same car with an EVO LTE that was getting a 4g signal and I got no 4G. That's what made me take a second look at my settings to see why I wasn't getting it.
It could very easily be a matter of picking the strongest signal and I'm ok with that. The secondary problem that I have is that I've read so many descriptions of an "LTE Only" option in the networks menu and I don't have that either . In fact, none of the options in my menu specify "LTE", even in combination with CDMA.
My list of networks in the special menu:
WCDMA preferred
GSM only
WCDMA only
GSM auto (PRL)
CDMA auto (PRL) (3G)
EvDo only
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) (default - 3G)
Unknown
Thanks for all of the responses, I'll keep digging for a solution.

hey gang i'm running the latest aokp task650 build on my S3 I747m. Everything works awesome, except i occasionally lose my data connection. I'll notice my connection status bars are gray, and typically a reboot will fix it. I'm sure going into airplane mode and back out from that would re-establish the connection too.
my APN is set correctly, i compared it to a friends nexus which is not rooted.
Right now i'm set as pda.bell.ca
I've flashed the latest bell modem file (that i'm aware of).
Anyone have any suggestions? i'm pretty new to all of this.. not sure what to do to troubleshoot.

I've been having problems lately when I have poor 4G (LTE) signal. My phone would rather hang around on the LTE network with little to no signal before it switches over to 3G. It's been doing this for a while on the Rogers network for me. I can see when I check the battery stats just how much time is spent without signal which is a lot. At work I get full bars 3G when at my desk but very poor 4G. The only thing causing me to loose signal is the poor transition back and forth between the two networks. Changing modems has absolutely no affect on this matter and I've put the APN's and network modes through the ringer with no change either. I've tried it all and nothing improved it. When I walk outside I immediately hit full bars 4G. Just when I'm inside my work and at home, I get poor lingering 4G. I wish the thresholds for when it switches over were better. I usually just turn off LTE all together which sucks but oh well.
I don't think we are the only people with this either. I've read grumblings about others noticing the same thing.
If curious, I'm running the latest CM10.1 nightly with Ktoonsez kernel on the Rogers network in Ottawa.
Interesting, that could very well cooincide with what i'm seeing. I tend to bounce from 4G to H+ or 3G, i wonder if it's trying to hang onto 4G.
Is there a way to force it to stay on 3G? that might be a good test
I was getting the same issue.
I did a factory reset and reinstalled my ROM plus GAPPs and the issue resolved itself.
I am using the latest modern right now and not my bell one. I think it's from a south American carrier, but bit 100% sure of the top of my head. But it is in the current modern thread
