Optimus G car home .apk? - LG Optimus G (International)

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could post there car home .apk as Google has stopped development and support for it, and there original version does not run properly on Ice Cream Sandwich and above. But, I was noticing at Best Buy today that Optimus G owners have an updated version included with there factory rom. If someone could post that for the rest of us perhaps we can get it to run properly on other newer android devices?

I can't find any car home or dock home apk. I also used nova launcher to search for anything that looked like a dock activity but could find nothing.
Edit: I have a bell optimus g.

Perhaps it is just on the At&t version? Thanks for looking!

I tried these files (in /system/app) but it seems like the app's dock intent isn't registering.
I tried to force the device into car dock mode using the magnet method, and I get the car dock icon in the status bar but the app doesn't launch.
I also can't seem to find any activity that I could use to launch it manually.
I don't really have time to troubleshoot but if someone else figures it out could you post it here?
edit: meh, <uses-sdk minSdkVersion="16" targetSdkVersion="16"/>
Android 4.0.4 is SDK v15.

Huh, TIL.
Tried it on my E970 with a little NeoD magnet right under Volume Down. Mine launches and foregrounds CarHome (and I'm running 4.0.4). First time I had to remove and replace the magnet, but after that, it came up each time.
Now, to find a dock for this....

I tried again with the attached APK and this time had a computer close by to troubleshoot.
Am noticing this in the logcat after boot:
Code:
W/PackageManager( 389): StaleDexCacheError when reading apk: /system/app/CarHome.apk
W/PackageManager( 389): dalvik.system.StaleDexCacheError: /system/app/CarHome.apk
I haven't seen this error before so I'll have to google a bit to figure out what's going on here.

Figured it out. I deodexed the CarHome apk from the AT&T rom posted in their Optimus G forum.
If you're interested in doing it yourself, grab the rom from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2067871.
Next, extract system/framework to a folder somewhere and the system/app/CarHome.apk and system/app/CarHome.odex files somewhere else.
Use baksmali to decompile the odex file:
Code:
java -jar baksmali.jar -d frameworkDir -x CarHome.odex
It will produce an out folder with the smali files; use smali to recompile these:
Code:
java -jar smali.jar out
Rename the resulting out.dex file to classes.dex and inject it into CarHome.apk (I used 7zip to do this).
Put the resulting apk in /system/app and reboot.
The apk I created is here, in case anyone doesn't want to go through the mess of manually deodexing: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/454322/CarHome.apk

Hello,
I have bought the Optimus G (French version - E975) and I don't find how to launch the car dock using magnet. I used to have this option on my old Motorola Defy with official car dock but before buying a new car dock for the Optimus G, I want to be sure that it exists a car dock that allow automatic car mode using magnet option but It seams that on E975 there is no magnet detection inside...
Someone can help me please?
Kind regards,
Guillaume.

If the phone has the Car app installed, but doesn't respond to a magnet, they might've removed that functionality.
You have tried running a magnet on it? If you're looking at the device, on the back, below (towards USB) the volume toggle, if I put a little Neodynium magnet there, Car mode engages automatically.
Of course, I never did find a dock, but I can't say I looked too hard either.

I don't know where to place exactly the magnet (2cms on the right of the 'G' of LG logo ?) and if my magnet is a Neodynium magnet or not...
I tried with the car dock that I used for the Motorola and with some magnets that I put on my fridge and it didn't works at all...

Neodynium magnets are the silver ones that are reallllly fragile. They're also silly-strong.
Here's a pic of the back of my LS970, with me holding a little NeoD magnet in tweezers where it triggers car mode on mine.

will it work on the Galaxy Tab? and do you have the Car Home app as well?
As I said I have no idea if it will work or not. As for Car Home I have the one below but the same applies.
Yep I got it from the Samsung Apps. Had to hit 'more' at the bottom which was hidden. All I need now is my LATESUNG desk stand which has been on order since September.

Dock not entering dock mode?

Hi,
I have bought this dock:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/270976496753?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
And when I plug it in, it does not go into dock mode.
I assume because it is cheap rubbish? or I am doing something wrong?
I am talking about the dock mode where it shows the current time, and it dims the screen a bit, so when you wake up you are able to see the hour properly.
I think it will only dock if you use a dock with the pogo pins, not the micro USB

Thanks, thats what I thought. Still trying to figure my new NFC tags out. Even bought Tasker which lets me shut the screen off when i place it next to the bed.
I set one tag as a switch to turn BT on/off when i put it in its cradle in the car. The problem is when the screen goes off, if I turn the screen back on, the NFC tag is read and BT is turned off. I should have not stuck the tag to the cradle and to some other place in the car I guess.
This is almost as fun as flashing ROMs!

I don't have any issues and from what I've read, the battery life is superior. I can go a full day with streaming SIRIUS/XM for my 45 min ride to and from work over bluetooth, browsing, email, 2 or 3 phone calls, and I will still have about 20% before I go to bed.

any update? Anyone made the mod yet
anybody? this would be great
[EDIT - Feb 27, 2013]I've merged both post into one. Also, I've zip-aligned both versions so that it uses less RAM on your phone. Attached are both the lockscreen and screen-off versions. Pick the one you want and rename to Nfc.apk before using
I've been searching for so long for this to be possible for the SGH-T989 but nobody had made one. After almost a full day of work starting from never having decompiled an APK and ODEX file, I've finally got a working version!
I do not know how this will affect battery life.
Nfc-lockscreen.apk - This version will let NFC to continue to function while the screen is ON and LOCKED. The only time NFC should not work is when the screen is OFF.
Nfc-screenoff.apk - This version will let NFC to continue to function while the screen is ON and OFF, LOCKED or NOT.
Just a note, there is a "deep-sleep" mode on most Android phones that will disable NFC regardless. The phone goes into deep-sleep mode when the screen is off for too long. I do not know of a way to keep NFC function while it is in deep-sleep mode.
So, just to be clear, I have a Telus Samsung Galaxy S II X (SGH-T989D) running ICS 4.0.3. This hack should work for the T-Mobile SGH-T989 as well but I'll need someone to test it to verify. Finally, my device is rooted.
Pre-requsites:
SGH-T989 or SGH-T989D running ICS 4.0.3 or 4.0.4
Must be rooted, so you should have SuperSU
Have someway of copying files into \system\app\ - such as in my case, using ROM Toolbox
The modified APK file below, select the version you want and rename it to Nfc.apk
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU BACKUP YOUR NFC.APK AND NFC.ODEX FILES IN \SYSTEM\APP\
If you do not know how to back it up, the steps below may be too complex for you. Try and figure out how to back those up first before proceeding.
Plug your phone into your computer. Copy the modified Nfc.apk to the root directory of your SD card on your phone.
Start ROM Toolbox and go into the Root Browser.
Browse into \system\app\ and delete Nfc.apk and Nfc.odex (assuming you have them backed up already).
Browse to \sdcard\external_sd\ and copy the modified Nfc.apk to \system\app\.
Press and long-hold the Nfc.apk file in \system\app\ until a menu appears. Select Permissions. Change the permissions to 0644. (Owner: Read & Write, Group: Read, Others: Read)
Reboot your phone.
I want to thank wrapper's initial post here that eventually lead me to mayhemer's post here.
Enjoy!
In case people wanted to know, I basically did this:
Changed
Code:
.field static POLLING_MODE:I = 0x0
to
Code:
.field static POLLING_MODE:I = 0x3
Copied and overwrote applyRouting() method from mayhemer's nfcmodsgh-T999_screenoff_UVALEM.zip to the stock one on SGH-T989.

Nice...I think this was possible already but I forget how I set it.
What I really I wanted was NFC to turn off with the screen off and turn on with the screen on even if it is locked with security or swipe. That way when I get into my car in the AM, I dont have to unlock the screen to tap my NFC chip. I could just turn the screen on, tap the chip, and put it in the holder. it would save me a whopping 3 seconds! all joking aside, this would help when I am wearing gloves so I dont have to take my glove off to unlock the screen.
I was trying to figure out how to set up Tasker to do this but failed miserably. There is definitely a way.

I don't think the stock ROM from Telus or T-Mobile can do screen off with NFC still enabled.
But what you're looking for, with screen on, but locked and NFC is enabled and when screen is off, NFC is disabled, that should be possible with another mod. I'll have a stab at it tonight if I find time. Now that I know how to do one, it shouldn't be as difficult to do the other one too.
[EDIT] Please see above for the modified Nfc.apk file.
Sorry for the delay. But here it is, the modified Nfc.apk file that allows NFC to continue to function when the screen is in the lockscreen. NFC will NOT function when the screen is off.
Follow the exact same instructions as above but use the modified Nfc.apk file below instead.
I didn't test it, so let me know if it works or not.
Side note: After using my screen-off version of the NFC mod, I've noticed that the phone has a deep-sleep mode where NFC mode is disabled regardless of my mod. I don't know what the threshold time for when that deep-sleep mode is engaged but just FYI. As for battery life, I haven't had a chance to really compare yet so I'll update when I get a chance.

I'm glad it worked! Some Stock ROMs don't have the .odex file because it is already inside the apk file. So don't worry about it.
Let me know how it goes battery-life wise.

Best Docking station (considering the Micro USB awkward placement)

Hi guys, I've been looking for the best docking station for my P6.
I should (of course) charge the phone but at same time feature speakers and (preferably) a clock.
There are a few ones from Philips but I found the Micro USB placement on our phone make it a bit awkward to use.

The awkward placement can be avoided with enabling all rotation angles, thus being able to use the phone "normally" while on it's dock.

It also depends on the launcher you are using. But I'm pretty sure the xposed gravitybox model can force all rotation angles.

That's awesome. I bought Tasker like a year ago. Everytime I download it I open it, get frustrated, then uninstall it, lol.
I think I love niagra though. It's so minimal on that big screen i think it would be better to just create a one page widget than run two launchers. That side animation was on one preset years ago. I sent my phone to safe mode play with stuff using adb today still have no idea what I did that prompted it.
@jemfalor Sorry I am a noob to the tasker. Where do I select hinge angel in the any sense?
under type, press magnifying glass
@jemfalor thanks for the help mate but it is not working for me. I will pass into it until someone post a detailed video as I have done everything right which Is mentioned in the guide but still no luck.
it is working. just learn to figure things out. change interval type to sample,
Works, but it's glitchy. Sometimes the stock home screen returns until I press the home key. When the device is unfolded and the main screen is visible, pressing the home button causes Nova Launcher to reload, which is pretty annoying. Worst of all, after configuring this, the keyboard keeps reverting back to the Samsung keyboard instead of Gboard, and sometimes the keyboard refuses to pop up at all. Time to undo this damage.

Been a while since I tinkered and so with some trepidation I thought I'd try the switching between different launchers using Tasker.
After some swearing I managed to get it working using the guide HERE
Got Niagra on the front and Nova on the large screen!
Click to collapse
does "tasker" work faster than the "Bixby Routines" method? im using Microsoft launcher (small) Nova 7 (larger)

Pretty instantaneous I find, and if the wrong launcher shows, (although this is rare) a swipe up reverts the screen to the correct one.

The Bixby Routines version works well for me.
Now.... If there was only a way to have two instances of Nova Launcher running on the device at the same time, I could have version one layout on the cover screen and version two layout on the inner screen.
Anyone any ideas?

Maybe you can help sorry for bothering you. Everything seems to be setup except when folded or unfolded I have to hit the home button manually for the launcher to change. Do you happen to know how I can fix this?.
