[Q] Tmobile wifi calling on Captivate and CM7

I'm using a rooted and unlocked captivate on tmobile. My G2 has the ability to make wifi calls through a wifi app(I do get charged for the minutes). Has anyone been able to make this work on a captivate. There seems to be some discussion in the vibrant forum that this might work on 2.2, but I am using 2.3.5 (CM Nightlies)
Thanks
You should definitely ask this question in the Captivate forums, not the DZ forums.
But generally, no I don't think it works like that. The WiFi calling app as you know it on a T-mobile G2 won't work on the Captivate as far as I know considering T-mobile isn't set up to run that device with UMA (its an AT&T branded phone). I'm assuming that you wouldn't be able to just move the .apk over and be good to go. My assumption is the device wouldn't register with the network properly.
Also, FWIW, you can get a feature put on your T-mobile account to make WiFi calls not count against your plan minutes. Its free of charge. Just call and ask.

[Q] Question Regarding Wifi Calling and Wifi Hotspot.

Hello,
So I have been running the rom below for a few days and it is awesome.
[ROM]▐[22.JAN.12]⁞★★Seanster_GBaxe EX v1.4.1:Taste of ICS★★⁞Android 2.3.6⁞Fauxv0.0.7▐
I tried turning on Wifi calling because my office has the worst coverage. It says my simcard does not work. I called T-mobile and they told me to go into the store and they can switch it out for me. I owned the HTC Sensation and bought the SG2 a week old from a friend and just put my old sim card in. I also found out that T-mobile is charging for Wfi-hotspot.
Moving I am not paying for Wifi hotspot but my phone does it. I don't know if it is because I am running a custom rom, using an old sim card, or because I have the old 5 MB internet plan.
My question is, will I lose the free Wifi Hotspot if I upgrade my sim card?
Also is anyone else paying for the Wifi hotspot ($15) or does a custom rom allow you to have free wifi hotspot?
Thank you

[Q] Qpair

Can anyone confirm that Qpair will work with the Verizon G2? I'm using CleanROM on my G2 and just picked up the G Pad 8.3 so that my G2 can be in my pocket on my train and just use this tablet to get texts/phone calls without having 2 devices in my hands. I've seen different posts that say it works with it and some that says it's borked due to VZ. If not, may decide to cancel order or return. Any feedback would be great.

Toggling data tethering via qpair is borked due to VZW, even if you have a plan that includes tethering.

I was considering snagging a Gpad today since BestBuy has it on sale for $280, but not if I cannot tether it off of my rooted stock Verizon G2. Does normal tethering work on it, just not Qpair tehering?
Thanks for your help!

Well, normal tethering using ad hoc wifi works fine. I would guess that Bluetooth tethering works too, but I haven't tried it.
Remember, when you tether a device, it's the phone with mobile data that does the work. The device that you're tethering, in this case the G Pad, is just connecting via wifi as usual.

Any tethering you can enable on the G2 should work fine. You just won't be able to remotely enable tethering via qpair.

Are you able to tether on all of these phones without using Qpair?. What happens if you set up to tether the G Pad to the phone and then run Qpair?

I can use q pair on all these with no problem just no internet connection through q pair. My verizon g2 is rooted with the hotspot provisioning skipped. This is what i use for internet.

[Q] UK Tethering not working on LG G3 D850

Hi
I am new to Android - having spent the last 6 years with Apple. When I was looking for a new phone I went for the LG G3. I bought the D850 AT&T version and have had it unlocked for use in the UK (im on the giffgaff/o2 network). The phone is working fine and I can get 4g as normal, however I cant tether the device.
I checked with giffgaff and tethering is allowed on my plan. but when I try to tether from the phone it fails when it tires to authenticate - "Authentication was unsuccessful. There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of the mobile hotspot function. Please try later"
Its been saying this for the past week and I am in a good data coverage area, so its not a network coverage area.
So its making me think its a carrier issue and I am looking some advice on whether I should install the UK firmware or a custom rom? Having a tethering option is important for me so happy to try a few ideas.
thanks for any input

I expect it is related to the fact that your phone is the US AT&T version, not the D855 international variant that you should be using in the UK. You are likely running into a "feature" installed to the D850 variant by AT&T to only enable tethering after requesting permission from the network and receiving approval back. Obviously this is intended to limit tethering to only paying customers on their network, and because you're not on AT&T - or even in the states at all - the approval never comes back.
You can't flash the D855 rom to a D850, but a custom rom may help. Alternatively you may be able to root and maybe the D850 guys know of a way to disable the check. Or you could just sell the phone on eBay and buy the correct variant!

Thanks for the reply stiggy2012.
Yea its the AT&T version of the D850 and like you said think its a feature by them to stop or check tethering for their customers.
Would prefer to keep the handset if possible as would get a lot less by selling it on ebay then have to pay more to but the UK version.
While you said I wont be able to flash to a d855 rom, what about flashing on the lollipop update that hasnt been released in the uk?

Unable to connect LG G3 T-Mobile phone to networks in Europe

I recently brought my LG G3 with me to Europe (while on Honeymoon) because I found out from T-Mobile that I could use text and data there at no extra cost. My phone works fine in the United States. But it doesn't find a carrier connection in London; Southampton; Vigo, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Cadiz, Spain; Gibraltar; and Barcelona.
I tried my phone in each location and it never connected to anything that wasn't WiFi. That really really sucked. I get that I have it rooted and I am using a different Lollipop ROM than stock. But I didn't think that would prevent it from connecting to towers there.
So what happened? What would be on a fully stock T-Mobile LG G3 that I wouldn't get on my rooted and ROMed version? I'm sure it something simple, but I would really like to know so that I can fix the problem before I go back.
did you turn on roaming?
mine worked great in Paris.
also, if you have really older version of rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/help/international-roaming-g3-t2834451
you may need to do this
Worked for me in Paris and Lisbon. I've had some issues when wifi calling is enabled, though. I think there are some very real modem issues but I eventually got it to work.
