[Q] HTC One X Jelly Bean ain't recognized any more - HTC One X

Hi !
I just updated my HTC One X to the Jelly Bean version, and I want to root it. I already unlocked the bootloader before updating it to JB, but I never rooted it. I'm having trouble get it fully recognized as before by my computer. The USB connection menu has changed, and doesn't have the old few modes, I now only have options about Wi-Fi hotspot, USB network and Bluetooth tehering. Plus the factthat my phone ain't recognized as an SD Card any more, but as a Camera.
I tried different methods (The one-click root, the toolkit a member developed) to root my One X, but no one works and it seems to always fail to detect my device. Even if a lot of people say that the rooting methos is the same for JB and for ICS, I can't manage to do it. (I already rooted my last phone, an htc Sensation). Plus the fact that I'm learning how to develop Android apps on Eclipse, and my phone ain't recognized since JB any more.
Yes, I have enabled USB Debugging. The only one moment something seems to work is in recovery mode when I select fastboot, my phone shows "FASTBOOT USB". But I'm totally unable to control it by USB. I looked up on this forum but I didn't find an answer to solve my problem. :/

Do you have an HTC One X, or an HTC One XL (Evita). This section is for the HTC One Xl, or the Evita.

Oh, you're right, I have the HTC One X, not an XL nor Evita. Thought I was on the right place cause this forum was simple "One X Q&A". Is there a way to move this thread to the right section ?

Not really, but a mod may help. Don't stress to much about it - the worse thing you've done is made everyone jealous of Jellybean! The forums for the 2 devices are very confusing....

Thread moved to the correct One X (endeavor) Q&A
Moderating from my One Xl

Thanks !
I'm still looking for some help, I don't manage do make it work :/

Een jellybean does not support flash drive storage as before. Now it is only a mtp connection. So it is normal what you see.
The root method is indeed the same as ICS
Sent from my HTC One X

Thannks, so I know at least that the MTP connexion is normal.
But that doesn't change my problem for making my phone recognized by my computer in USB Debug mode.

hi! I have the exact same problem! And when recognised as a camera, no files show up. I'm using win xp and no additional drivers for One X installed... (at least I believe so)

Tried updating to the latest version of HTC Sync?
It updates the latest drivers. and try keeping the USB mode to "Smart Network Sharing" after that.
It worked for me.

Ditto nayaknish.
Note that for XP it's no good just updating HTC Sync and drivers - you have to deinstall HTC Sync and the HTC drivers completely, reboot PC, install HTC Sync afresh, min release 1.1.66.0, then reboot PC again before it will behave properly. After this I got HTC Sync back, and two USB drives in explorer for copying data to and from, all working OK. Didn't have to set USB mode to Smart Network Sharing though - it's set to "None" on mine.

so, can you see thumbnails of photos when you access your phone as an external usb drive (i.e. from "My Computer").
I don't have HTC sync installed, just managed to update the drivers somehow, but no thumbnails, although I can copy the files to and fro...

Still a problem

Hi
Latest HTC Sync does allow me access to photo and music files, but still doesn't allow use as a mass storage device. And when I connect to my car USB I get "Device Unreadable"
HTC have told me that clearing the cache would fix it, but it hasn't.
I do hope some clever dev can come up with a fix, otherwise we'll have to wait for HTC to come up with an update.

How to Unroot/go back to STOCK after installing Rooted versions of 1.47/2.05

Pretty sure most people know how to do this but for some who are having issues with drivers n such this might help, wouldn't hurt imo.. I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate (x86)
*** Reportedly Will not work with Official OTA 1.47/2.05 Updates, only Rooted updates, I have not personally tried. The Wizards @ the dev forums are working on a fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714157 ***
The steps below worked for me. I had the latest clockwork recovery,Damage Control DC 3.2.2.1 deodexed and The latest rooted ota updates installed (EVO_1.47.651.1_De-odex'd_Rooted.zip, 2.05.00.06.10 update.zip)
Download and install HTC Sync Update http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/ (if you already have it installed then click the repair option,
or better yet uninstall your current one even if it is the same one, reboot your computer and then install this one again, for good measure.)
1. I unplugged/plugged my phone into the computer a couple times, switched to htc sync mode when it asks what type of usb connection I wanted, to install more driver updates if any
and did 2 reboots on my computer to get all the drivers updated/installed and working as they should.
2. Turn off the phone, hold volume down and hold down power button to get to bootloader,
pressed Power button one more time to get to the menu where you can reboot bootloader,
rebooted bootloader once and twice BEFORE the unrooting process for good measure.
3. Download either one of the RUU Stock Roms, I would try RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe and then RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459.exe if the first one fails.
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
Alternate Link http://tinyurl.com/2fq4dzk
4. Plug your phone into your computer, make sure ALL Drivers installed properly if any, you may already have drivers installed, but double check, switch to HTC Sync mode
and let it install any drivers, then turn off your phone and start it in bootloader (Hold Volume Down +Power button) Reboot your computer also
to make sure everything has been properly installed.
5. Then you can finally double click (right click run as admin imo) the RUU.exe and start the unrooting process, good luck!
I try it and it don't work. I mean yet it detect my ota version but after I click update than for a while it said that my phone is not plug from the computer. I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64bit, eva x58 core i7-920
Thanks for the write-up, does this take the phone completely back to out-of-the-box stock?

do you have to have either 1.47 or 2.05 to use this method, or will the rooted supersonic 1.32.651.1 be able to do it?
because I installed htc sync, set the phone to HTC Sync, but the phone says it cant find it on my computer.

Yes it will work for that version, you only set HTC Sync mode up to install any missing drivers, then you switch back to disk drive mode if you want your computer to gain access to your phones SD card.

Thanks for the write-up it worked just like planned. And with so many people returning for some reason or another this is just what we need
Im returning one and buying another at bestbuy HEHE
so will this return the Evo to shipped stock rom IF i did the OTA update? and will i be able to root if i have the OTA update?
thanks
I had the .6 stock(not root)and OTA updated to 1.47,how can I go back to .6 stock,I ran the .6 RUU,but it said main version older and refused to downgrade, anyone knows how do I reload the .6 back?my EVO ever rooted.
As far as I've been able to find by SEARCHING the forums:
NO
Once you do the OTA update you can NOT go back or downgrade or uninstall it or whatever.
This method posted is for installing a ROOTED ota update. ie, it was hacked, and rooted prior to being installed. If you downloaded it from sprint on your phone and installed it, your are SOL for now.

Also tried multiple USB ports.

My USB is fine as I have been using it without issue.

Have u tried to flash the ruu as a zip?

[Q] Unprovoked does not work on 2.1

Hi
Unprovoked (latest version) tried on the MAC and PC does not root my HTC Desire running Android 2.1. I have tried everything possible and it just does not grant me root access to the phone.
What are my options, what other software can I try, to root the phone, preferably PC based.
Thanks

Good Lord, of course it doesn't. There is no rooting tool known as unprovoked.

Please, describe the problem that you are facing, what steps you have taken, etc.
Don't ask stupid questions (or ask questions stupidly) and expect anyone to be able to have a vision of your problem, diagnose it correctly AND help you solve it.
lol a classic typo, I was provoked using unrevoked hehe I wish I could change the subject title now, and of course meant unrevoked (sorry was too tired after trying it for many many hours) ... i know that many people have had success rooting their phones with this tool.
My phone got stuck in a reboot cycle after using unrevoked on 2.2, so I downgraded to 2.1-update1 and tried unrevoked again but the same problem happened and no root access. Then I took the battery out for a few minutes, powered it back on, and so far it's been stable, i.e. no reboots. This morning I also powered off and back on again and the phone has not rebooted. I just can't understand it.
Moving forward, is there another option, a different tool which I could use which can root Android 2.1.

Yes and selected default connection type to charge only.
Have you installed HtC Sync then removed it? Making sure the drivers are left on?
I tried on both the PC and MAC. The MAC does'nt require messing around with USB drivers.
On the PC, HTC sync was uninstalled with the drivers left installed ( unrevoked modified USB driver ) and then ran unrevoked.
So I now have HBOOT 0.83.0001 and Android 2.1.
I tried unprovoked once more today, and the phone is stuck in a reboot loop.
1.
I take out the battery, and the phone boots and then reboots once i see the multi-coloured HTC background and then goes into that infinite reboot cycle before I can make any changes.
2.
HBOOT is trying to find an image with a name similar to : PB99IMG.ZIP which it can't find so reboots in a loop until the battery in taken out and then returns to 1.

[Q] AlpharevX, not working... [SOLVED]

Ok I'm a HTC noob so please bear with me. I setup adb-sdk environment and windows environment variable. After that I obtained Alpharevx and ran it. Everything went fine and I entered the beta key. But then after
'Beta key accepted - thank you for participating!'
, nothing happens. It just stops. Any idea how to get this thing going?
Did you run AlphaRevx as an administrator ... given you're on Vista or Windows7?
Is the phone in USB debugging mode?
Is the Android software on your phone 2.2.1? If it's 2.3 then the AlphaRevX will not work :/

Yes it's in USB debugging mode.
Yes ran as an admin because I disabled the protection so basically all apps as admin on my windows 7.
I've read in the AlphaRevX thread where some people have had to do it multiple times before it Roots their phone. Maybe try that?
Thank you. I will try more :O I hope this won't brick my phone. I heard HTC devices can't recover from brick. With SGS you could just odin back from whatever mess you are in.

Yea, I just got mine as a replacement after a year of use. So far I'm happy because the screen is up to par with SAmoled. People always hype up SAmoled but imho, SLCD on Dinc2 is not far behind.
Hey, so I am new to this board. I myself have a Dinc2 arriving soon. My brother just got his. We are both former fascinate owners. After researching and following some how to's, my brother was rooting his phone and he got stuck while attempting to get recovery after S-off. He cannot post, but here is what stated happened:
Hey I'm having a problem with my incredible 2.
Before activating the phone (avoiding the 2.3 update) I tried rooting my phone.
1) I downloaded alpharedex and generated the code
2) downloaded the recovery mode application onto the phone
3) and placed the SU zip folder onto my phone
I was stopped at step 3 because the volume down power button procedure was not working. Instead the phone powered on normally. I attempted it many more times and it would not work.
After spending some time on it, I said screw it, I just want to use the phone. So i activated it and OK'd the 2.3 update. It shut down my phone and began to download the file but it was stopped with a exclamation point in a red triangle. I tried doing a hard reset (volume up and power button) but that did not work. So i was forced to take out the battery. When I powered up the phone again, it continued the download: the phone shut down, it began to download and froze up like last time.

Okay, so yes I know he shouldn't have done this. After consulting with me, I was able to get him into recovery by attempting the volume down + power procedure about a dozen more times.
Should he install the super user package and reboot? Or should he do something now to fix the OTA auto reboot problem while he still has recovery?
Edit: Because he is in recovery, could he just factory reset and flash a new rom? Apparently, when he boots the phone normally it gets to the home screen and then instantaneously reboots and attempts to install the OTA. That is where it locks up.
If he installs a rom it should block the update. Any custom rom will have superuser built in, and I know at least CM7 has OTA blocking built in as well.
Oh, and it sounds like his trouble booting into hboot with power and volume down is because fastboot is enabled. It can be turned off in settings»power.

deaffob, you seem to be pretty computer literate, if it keeps giving you issues, boot ubuntu from a flash drive and do it that way. I messed with windows for a couple hours, and it took me all of 20 minutes to install ubuntu to my flash drive, boot into it and root.

That is what I was hoping for, but I don't think there is a factory reset option in Recovery that doesn't wipe the current rom he is on.
I was pretty sure flashing a rom with superuser in it would solve it, and it sounds like that might be the answer.
Only problem now is somehow getting the rom on to the SD card. I might have to have him swap SD cards in my phone, add the rom to the SD card, and then swap back.
I fixed it by going to alpharev IRC and got a great help from attn1! He was very helpful late at night.
To those of who'd like to know, this was my situation:
-Windows 7 64bit with admin control turned off=everything has admin rights.
-Fastboot off(tried on too)
-installed HTC Sync's driver.
-tried HTC driver that's posted on AlpharevX's website.
-HTC Sync was uninstalled.
-It was froyo
-Correct HBOOT(obvious because the whole point of getting the beta key was to prevent someone using the hack with the wrong version of HBOOT)
-Tried 3 different USB ports.
-ADB SDK was installed
-JDK was installed
-environment variable path for ADB SDK was set.
-tried reinstalling the HTC Driver twice, each time uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller to clean up registry.
So even after all these, the hack still did not work. So attn1 suggested that I should try it different computer or download the flash version of Ubuntu and try it in there. I tried it on my old lap with Windows 7 64 installed. I haven't used the laptop that much so the Windows was pretty clean and new.
It worked on that laptop. The lesson is, no matter how much you take care of your windows system, I practically baby my computer and do everything to keep the optimum performance, it will get screwed up after some time. I would've never thought that it'd be my desktop Windows that was the problem.
So if you are having a problem, please try Ubuntu as that's probably the best bet.

Yep! And I'm happy I made the switch, the SLCD screen is not bad and has more accurate color reproduction and plus who uses the SAMOLED at 100% brightness anyways..-nobody really lol.
Also HTC sense imho is waay more useable with good functionalities like the ever so good integration of Facebook compared to TW. I still can't get over that since I was conned into thinking that the Fascinate had in-app pictures but atlas it was a link to the website.. whereas HTC has that and more plus notifications!
Sorry I'm just thoroughly impressed especially since this is my first HTC Device. ^__^

You can download a program from the Market called quickboot It allows you to reboot into recovery without doing a battery pull. this is what I use right now in replace of the 4-in-1 reboot menu
I just got su on mine. I am an Android beginner so my experience may help. My system is a laptop running Win 7. I had installed synch and then following advice removed it with all drivers. I installed the htc USB drivers, and plugged in the phone in the proper mode. AlphaRevX will not work. So (this may be vital) reinstalled synch with drivers. Then removed synch. Got AlphaRevX to do its thing at once. So the other drivers must be there!

[Q] Android File Transfer? Why?

Guys, I'm back again with another dumb question.
While running ICS 4.0.4 on my HTC One X, I was very happy that the phone was connecting to each computer as external USB storage.
Lately the phone received the JB update, which made the OS 4.1.1
Since then, when I connect the phone to Mac it requires Android File Transfer, which is simply POS from my point of view; totally impractical.
And when I connect the phone to Windows, it behaves like a camera but like Android File Transfer window, quite useless and file types are not being recognized properly, icons look different then what they actually are, etc...
What happened to the phone, anyone knows?
Android upgrade changes the previous nice connection type, I guess...
But is there any chance to go back to that type of connection while running JB?
Cheers.

Thanks.
I was hoping to read answers about a tool requiring root access or a tweak kind of way to change it...
Anyway, I'll see what Airdriod is as you've recommended.
you can still use your phone as mass storage. you just need to update your htc sync manager and enable usb debugging in your phone.

Thanks. May I ask for more details?
I'd of course try what you suggest before asking you back if I had the chance however, I'm not in a position to do it right now, sorry for bothering...
Am I correct to assume that the solution you're suggesting is affecting only the workstation on which there is HTC Sync Mgr is possibly installed?
I mean, is this going to change the behavior of the phone permanently or is it going to solve the issue between the phone and the particular computer?
I'm using the phone as external storage to transfer files between computers, on which I'm not workstation administrator, therefore I have no chance to install HTC apps on the computers I'm referring to.
Damn, Android is getting easier and better but how about this?
Do you happen to know the reason for Google to change this?

[Q] One X (Evita) not detected by ADB, but is useable as mass storage

Hi folks, I'm hoping for some help with an odd issue I'm experiencing with my One X (International - Evita).
I'm running TWRP 2.6.x.x and CM 10.2.1. - I was gong to update to the latest snapshot of CM11, but I I can't detect my phone with adb, at all. Further, it's not detected (at all) by HTC Sync.
Here are some details
- I've tried multiple known good USB cables, and ports (USB2.0).
- I can successfully turn on mass storage, and transfer files between the phone and the PC.
- The phone is in fine working order, with no issues. CM10 and TWRP are accessible and working, and backups can be made.
- The phone is also not detected by WinDroid Universal Android Toolkit.
- ADB has been reinstalled many times, latest version. The Android SDK has also been reinstalled several times, along with the HTC drivers.
So... can anyone help me make sense of this?:fingers-crossed:

Thanks but it is a One X. Technically I think the international version went by the moniker of the One XL, but regardless it's not a One X+, which was a refresh partway through the hardware cycle.
Still looking for help in getting this phone recognized! It's wonky that when mass storage is on it works fine, but adb can't find the phone.

You are still in the wrong forum my friend, Don't use any guides tools or roms from here or you will have an HTC paperweight. Here is the correct link for the Evita forum you need>>>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-x-att
