[Q] Ion Bricked with black screen - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

I tried to flash custom rom[AOKP]. But forgot to flash kernel. After flashing when I tried to boot my phone only thing it shows is black screen. It vibrates, show black screen and again vibrate. I tried to flash kernel and stock firmware but after sometime it stuck in black screen and I cant go to fastboot method. Even I tried to press power + volume up button but it didn't work. So I remove the battery and insert it and tried to flash stock flash firmware in flashtool but my device isn't working. Still it is showing black screen. i tried many way reading post in general forum. But no luck. So what I am going to do? Anyone have any idea?

Dont Panic Just Charge Your Phone and Let it come Back

If you are not getting any LED (RED/GREEN/BLUE) then you need to charge your battery with WALL CHARGER till you get LED back.
If you got CONSTANT RED LED not Blinking (If Blinking Let it Charge more Hours)
Now Here are few tips to get FLASH/FASTBOOT mode for Flashing the Phone.
For each scenario make your flashing files ready for fastboot and flashmode
To do that Put Stock FTF file in %\Flashtool\Firmwares\ and Extract the ftf file using 7-zip in %\Flashtool\Firmwares\ExtractedSin and also install all necessary drivers from Flashtool\drivers folder.
Main Idea Would be Getting BootLoops at last and thats the stage, you'll be one step close to make your phone back to life.
BUT MAKE SURE YOU CHARGE YOUR PHONE AT LEAST 10-20 MINUTES FOR EACH TRY, AS IT WILL GIVE POWER TO FLASH THE DEVICE.
If you managed to get FLASHMODE (GREEN LED)
[1] . Set the Flashtool with Stock FTF and when it asks to connect the phone , Connect the Phone while keeping pressed the VOLUME.DOWN button.
If the Flashmode doesn't comes then , Put Your Phone to PC/Laptop for 5-20 minutes it will start Bootlooping (It will show Constant LED and will end up boot looping the phone)
[2]a . This Time When Phone boots-reboots keep pressed the VOLUME.UP button and quickly insert the USB cable try it few times IF you got FastbootMode[BLUE LED] follow method below...(BLUE LED)
[2]b . In Between BootLoops If You Failed to get BLUE LED try SOFT RESET ( Power+VOLUME.UP till Single Vibration) Release Keys And QUICKLY PRESS VOLUME.UP and Put the USB cable While Kepping it Pressed. Try It few Times and if you get [BLUE LED] follow method below...
[2]c . Still Haven't got Fastboot Mode try it for Flashmode, Make FLashtool Setup then SOFT RESET , release key and Quickly press VOL.DOWN and put USB while keeping it pressed. If You Got (GREEN LED) It will Start Flashing.
[3] . Phone Didn,t respond at all Dont Freak Out, Just keep it on wall charger and try after few hours Mine took 20 hours to get BLINKING RED LED. And After few Hours It Came with CONSTANT RED LED. Some People wait till Constant Red becomes to GREEN.
Method to Flash in Fastboot Mode, Make Sure You have installed All necessary drivers
Open Flashtool ----> Press Thunder Button ----> Select Fastboot MOde ---->Select Kernel to flash ---> Browse %\FLashtool\Firmwares\ExtractedSins\ -----> Select KERNEL>SIn file -----> It Will FLash the Kernel.
Do the Same for SYSTEM.SIN.
Reboot Phone into System.
Just Put Phone to WALL CHARGER and Read it out carefully. Hope It Helps

I can access fastboot method but flashing wont help. If I tried flashboot method it recognize it but after sometime maybe after 40 seconds it automatically disconnect.

Following your step i managed to install kernel and now I can see SONY logo. It stuck on SONY logo. I cant install system.sin.
Flashtool is showing the following log:
15/028/2012 11:28:34 - INFO - Selected system (system.img or system.sin): C:\Flashtool\firmwares\Xperia Ion (Lt28h)_ICS 6.1.E.2.68_Generic International Firmwares - LT28h\system.sin
15/028/2012 11:28:34 - INFO - Flashing selected system
15/032/2012 11:32:46 - INFO - Please check the log before rebooting into system

try it using Command prompt method
Goto Flashtool Folder Press Shift and Right click \x10flasher_lib\ then Open Command Prompt Window Here
Now Do It
fastboot flash boot kernel.sin
fastboot flash system system.sin
fastboot flash userdata userdata.sin
You can drag the *.sin files after writing
fastboot flash boot [drag the kernel.sin file]
same for 'system' and 'userdata' partitions

Still stuck at SONY logo. Am I doing something wrong?

No You did everything absolutely fine.
- wipe out all partitions b4 you flash the rom.
- if it still dosen't work, you should try Sony Update Suite/Companion [ Repair Your Phone].
- And The Last Option is Flash CynogenMod and Put Rom.zip file in external Sd Card First.
Still You Have to FLash Kernel of the CynogenMOD from fastboot.
Then Goto Recovery by Touching Logo few times at bootup.
And Install ROM.
Then Let me know, What is status.

I can't access CWM. I think it is also gone. Last night I did read about CM10. But it does have data problem. So Are there any other ROM I can use.
Also I have Unlocked Bootloader. So I cant repair through PCC or SEUS.

yes unofficial cynogenmod 9.1 is there

If you don't have CynogenMOD
get it from here https://sites.google.com/site/projectfreexperia/download/cyanogen-mod-9
Now Open the zip file and Extract Boot.Img to Somewhere.
And Flash it from FastBoot Mode.
Do THis
- power off the phone:
- hold vol+ and plug usb to boot into fastboot (blu led)
- fastboot flash boot boot.img (from cm10 or CM9 zip)
- fastboot reboot
- enter recovery, on boot led will be violet for 3'', during this period press vol+
- flash rom zip from externel sdcard
- wipe cache/data/dalvik
- reboot

Now my battery is drain. Connected 6 hours in wall charger. But nothing happen other than RED LED.

Keep Charging and Try After Few Hours

Looks like your device differs from the rom package.
make sure you download correct rom for your device.
and
you could try One thing OPen the ROM.zip file and extract this file
\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script
Edit the file with Notepad++ or Edit+ etc (Dont open with notepad) and
Delete Following lines
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "LT28h" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "LT28h" ||
getprop("ro.product.device") == "aoba" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "aoba");
Now Save and replace this file in that zip package.
And try Flashing
Also, you should verify that the MD5 is correct for the download.

now after 14+ hrs i have red led glowing.....,now connected phone to pc...tried volume up and plug in usb///nothing..
tried volume down + usb plug in...still just a constant red led....now...should i wait now till phone starts bootlooping?

I did the same thing as it is in the instruction.
Frist do a FULL FORMAT of the phone with the scatter file provided here. that went ok and the green circle was shown.
Nex step, 1. Just filash preloader.img * remove battery and usb cable i did that but as u can see in the picture there was smoe kind of problem.
Ok i think i solve that problem
Instead of click on the FORMAT button i was clicking on the DOWNLOAD button like when uyou are rooting the phone. (click on the preloader.img and hit the FORMAT button not DOWNLOAD button)
all steps finished with green circle at the end.
Is that the right procedure, u did the same?
After everything finished i try to update with ONE TOUCH Upgrade S 2.7.0 but it says that I have newest version of the software.
What should I do next ?
finally unbrick

I found THE solution of our problem man !!!!!
I found it !
I assume you have already Flash Tools and One Touch Upgrade 1.8.2
Step 1 : Download the file '2.3.5_Europe.zip' (file attachement)
Step 2 : Open Flash Tool
- Option --> Check USB MODE
- Option --> Backup Restore NVRAM --> Check Backup --> .....
- Scater-loading File --> "MT6573_Android_scatter.txt" (in 2.3.5_Europe)
- Click DOWNLOAD
Step 3 : Wait up to the end.
When it's finished, open One Touch Upgrade and do an Upgrade
It works very well now !!

Still not working bro
it finishes ok with a green circle but no display lights like it is mentioned in the tutorial
checked OTU but it says the same No greater software version than this on the phone and it finishes.
Question. ?? when u do full format you click on format button and than you put a check mark on FORMAT WHOLE FLASH and nothing else is checked on the screen
preloader DSp_BL and other things are unchecked too ?
Second question ?? when u flash all 3 files together pro_info.img , dsp_bl.img and preloader.img you click on DOWNLOAD ???
This is what instruction file says ( the file that is in the rar i downloaded from the dropbox adress u send me
******* FLASHING PRODECTURE.
Frist do a FULL FORMAT of the phone with the scatter file provided here. then flash the files ONE BY ONE.
1. Just filash preloader.img * remove battery and usb cable
2. Flash DSP_BL * remove battery and usb cable
3. Flash pro_info * remove battery and usb cable
4. Flash UBOOT.img * remove battery and usb cable
Flash all the files one by one, if you found the correct preloader.img you will see the phones screen lights up.
Now you can use ONE TOUCH Upgrade S 2.6.3 From alcatel website to flash back all the rest of the firmware:
Or you can flash boot.img + recovery.img to do a restore of an old backup you have.
I do that once and it didnt work. Than i try as u say to flash all 3 files at once. In none of two ways the phone didn give any sign and in both times OTU show the message there is no greater software version.
Please help.

You have flashed the kernel not the rom the rom is installed by going in to recovery and choosing .zip file which you should have downloaded and put on your SD card:crying:
Download the rom and put it on your SD card then boot into recovery and flash from there:good:
You have flashed the kernel, you must also flash the ROM.
CM10 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780316
Now flash stock-based kernel with CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838916
after that your phone should boot normally.
Download and place on SD card these two files:
CM10 ROM: http://uploaded.net/file/5a0kokcr/from/wyv4cf
gapps: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
Boot to CWM (Keep pressing the Volume Down button during boot)
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Mounts and Storage --> format /System
- Install zip from SD card > choose CM10 zip file
Let it flash and after that install gapps zip (without wiping).
After that, on the computer open CM10 zip file and extract boot.img - this is the kernel you now have to flash.

Turn your phone on, and press the Down volume key repeatedly. See if you can get to Recovery. If you can, flash the ROM, and you'll be fine. If not, get a stock ROM and flash it with Flashtool. Then, you can follow the proper procedure to get CWM on your phone.

Your phone won't boot because now you have ICS ROM with Jelly Bean kernel.
Start with flashing ICS kernel as I suggested before.

You can't boot your phone to fastboot mode? Do you have drivers installed? If you flashed CM10 kernel I'm sure your know how to boot to fastboot?
To flash stock ICS download Flashtool and stock Rom and flash it with phone in flash mode.

1) Download the firmware appropriate for your phone from this page
http://xperiadev.wordpress.com/flashing/xperia-ftf-firmwares/
2) Download and install Flashtool. You can find the Setup file and the procedure on XDA or on the Net. Just do a search.
3) Flash the firmware onto your phone using Flashtool. All should be good.
PS: As far as I know, Flashtool is the only way to get yourself out of a brick. Happened to me once, worked like a charm. Give it a try and see how it goes.

how to flash it with flashtool if computer doesnt reqconize the phone?
Drivers are in Flashtool's installation folder. Install them from file Flashtool-drivers.exe
To boot to fastboot your phone must be turned off. Press and hold Menu button, plug in USB cable to your phone and plug the cable to the PC.
If your LED turns blue you can release Menu button - you are in fastboot.
(To get to flash mode it's the same procedure, but you hold Back button and LED turns green.)
So, boot to fastboot.
In Flashtool click thunder icon and choose Fastboot mode:

Keep trying. It took me several attempts before Flashtool detected my phone and was able to flash the firmware. Still, if nothing's working, I believe a trip to the service center is warranted.

[Q] LT26i won't root.

Well, I'm not quite sure what's wrong. First of all I tried to flash a new ROM but forgot to allow for unknown sources and turn on debugging, then whilst that was still just rebooting over and over again I managed to flash a stock ROM using Flashbooter. That worked fine until now when I'm trying to root the device and with using two or three different rooting programs I get the same error message "cannot find path" (or something to that affect).

Flashing into recovery has nothing to do with superuser. And read my reply. SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE : This will install superuser and busybox. Google this : SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE, and download it and flash it through recovery.
To enter recovery : Reboot your phone, when the pink led is on and the phone vibrates one time push the volume up button. If you don't have a pink led flash again the kernel and try again.

You need a kernel with recovery. That kernel I recommended has that. An application will never reboot your phone into recovery, unless you press the volume up button while tapping the SONY logo, on some phones. So, power off your phone. Power it on, it will vibrate once, now press the volume up button and keep it pressed until you see the the recovery layout.

Well this is getting embaressing. I cannot get the bloody thing to go in to recovery. It either goes into flash or fastboot mode. And unplugged from the laptop it carries on the startup even when I'm keeping the volume up button pressed. I can't think what I'm doing wrong. I've reinstalled the stock official ROM, downloaded SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE and still nothing.

P.S. The phone may not vibrate but when you see a pink led, press the volume up button.

Your bootloader is locked or unlocked ?

[ROOT][SL/LT26ii] How-to for rooting newest firmware 6.2.B.1.96

The same method mentioned by DooMLoRD here at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417672 holds true for [FTF][LT26ii]New firmware Xperia SL[ 6.2.B.1.96 ] Generic World + ME
THESE METHODS WORKS FOR BOTH LOCKED & UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS
Either you can flash the Xperia S kernels mentioned in DooMLoRD's post or you can choose kernels made exclusively for Xperia SL (LT26ii)
I have followed the later path and used stock kernels extracted from signed ftf ROMs.
Method 1 (Easier)
1- Download these three files:
(1) LT26ii_6.2.B.0.211_XperiaSL_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.36 MB
(2) LT26ii_6.2.B.1.96_XperiaSL_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.33 MB
(3) DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip - 2.96 MB
2- Download [FTF][LT26ii]New firmware Xperia SL[ 6.2.B.1.96 ] Generic World + ME and flash your phone by putting it in flashmode by pressing VOLUME DOWN KEY while plugging in to your PC via USB cable(Optional if you didn't have already flashed latest stock firmware).
3- Open Flashtool and flash LT26ii_6.2.B.0.211_XperiaSL_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.36 MB the same way you would flash a stock ROM by putting your device in flashmode (but this time it's only the kernel).
4- Disconnect from PC, reboot and turn on USB debugging mode and install from Unknown Source.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5- Close Flashtool and Root your device with DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.
6- After automatic restart you should be able to see SuperSU app installed on your phone.
7- Open Flashtool and put your device in flashmode then flash original LT26ii_6.2.B.1.96_XperiaSL_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.33 MB.
8- Reboot!!! Your device is now rooted.
Method 2
1- Instead of using XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.0.211_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.36 MB , download stock .211 kernelLT26ii_6.2.B.0.211_kernel.sin - 6.74 MB
2- Instead of XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.1.96_KernelOnly.ftf - 6.33 MB, use this stock .96 kernel LT26ii_Xperia_ SL_6.2.B.1.96_kernel.sin - 6.71 MB
3- Download DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip - 2.96 MB
4- Download the Minimal ADB and Fastboot Tools.
5- Put the both stock kernels in the same folder of ADB and Fastboot Tools.
6- Press Shift+Right Click inside this folder and choose Open command window here.
7- Shutdown your device.
8- Put XSL in fastboot mode by pressing Volume UP key while connecting the USB cable to your powered off Xperia SL (Blue LED is the sign that your device is connected to your PC in fastboot mode).
9- Run this command in command prompt
Code:
fastboot flash boot "LT26ii_6.2.B.0.211_kernel.sin"
10- Disconnect the device after successful finish and POWER ON.
11- Root with the same method mentioned in DooMLoRD's thread using DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.
12- At this point you will need to re-flash .96 stock kernel.
13- Shutdown your device again.
14- Put Xperia SL in fastboot mode.
15- Run this command in command prompt
Code:
fastboot flash boot "LT26ii_Xperia_ SL_6.2.B.1.96_kernel.sin"
16- Disconnect the device after successful finish and POWER ON.
17- Your device is now rooted.

Next thing you will have to do is click Flash Device button (The lightning button).

No, flashing kernel will not erase phone data. However, flashing stock full ROM will definitely erase your phone data (The builtin SD card is not touched). You are advised to take backup before trying anything.
I am having issue using both the methods. Emma doesn't work on locked bootloader and neither fastboot. Am I missing something?
EDIT: I run on Windows 8 and all of my ports are USB 3.0. I remembered I ran something to make it compatible in order for me to update via PC Companion - perhaps I am missing a compatible fastboot driver?
EDIT: Got it worked. I am silly, thinking that flashtool is the Emma provided by Sony, but instead the flashtool here means the one by bin4ry and androxyde.

Emma was never meant in the first place.
Got a stupid problem. When I connect my SXS (power + vol down), green led light comes up, flash tool says "Connected device with USB debugging mode off" (obviously it's turned on), and it comes back after ca. 10-20 secs to charging mode. I can't even start flash, because I'm doing everything slowly (to don't destroy my phone ), so when I'm ready to press flash it change back to normal charging. Adb drivers from few sources installed (device manager indicate properly), pcc, SUS installed.

OK, you are adopting the wrong methodology.
First turn on the USB debugging in normal stock rom.
Then turn your device off and wait for 30 seconds after powering off.
Afterwards just press the volume down key (not the power key) and connect your micro USB cable (that is of-course connected to your PC).
This will put your device in flash mode.
Cheers.
Thanks! works great! just rooted two of my friend's phones

GUIDE: How to unbrick your Zenfone 6 (ZS630KL)

Hello.
This guide will help you unbrick your device in case your devices hangs as it boots, and always boots into fastboot mode and recovery is unavailable and the like.
Note: Unlocked bootloader is not required to do any of the actions described in this guide.
Disclaimer: I'm in no way responsible for the actions you perform and whatever happens to your device due to these actions. Proceed at your own risk.
Prerequisites:
Service firmware. Can be downloaded here. It's an older build, but it will do the trick and it's the only one I could find freely available at the time of writing. Only for WW SKU
Zip for your desired build. Can be found here.
- Note: For this guide, my desired build will be WW-17.1810.1910.63, which is a special case, as you will need to flash in the following order: Service Firmware -> WW-16.1220.1909.194 -> WW-17.1810.1910.63. In other cases, unless noted otherwise in a description of the build on the ASUS website, Service Firmware -> Desired build will suffice.
Platform tools of Android SDK. Latest package can be downloaded from: Windows | Linux. Somewhat optional but good to have.
Step 1 - Preparing the environment
This is not required but for the sake of simplicity and keeping everything in one place, create a folder and name it whatever you like, for example ASUS or Unbrick
Create a sub-folder inside the folder you've created in the previous step, call it service_firmware, download and unzip service firmware into this folder
Download files for the desired builds from the above link. For this specific case, WW-16.1220.1909.194 and WW-17.1810.1910.63.
3.a If you have microSD card, transfer zip file for the desired build into its root and insert the card into the phone.
3.b. If you do not have a microSD card, download and unzip platform tools mentioned in the prerequisites as you will need adb to flash firmware/s via sideload
Step 2 - Flashing service firmware
Connect your phone via USB
Enter fastboot mode via one of the methods:
1.1. Turn off your device, then turn it on while holding down the power and volume up buttons at the same time. Release the power button when it powers up (keep holding the volume up button)
1.2. If you have platform tools, you can do adb reboot fastboot
Open CMD (windows) | Terminal (unix)
CD into the folder with service firmware from item #2 from the step above.
Make sure your phone is detected by typing fastboot devices
Ensure battery is at least 20% charged. Aside from normal means, it's possible to check the battery charge via fastboot oem get-batcap.
Sample output: (bootloader) bat cap = 35, which means that the battery is 35% charged.
IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE CONTINUING:
By default, flashing with one of the scripts wipes your userdata, in other words, it performs a factory reset.
It is possible to avoid userdata wipe (although not encouraged) but keep in mind, unless you flash your current build after flashing service firmware, your phone will not boot up.
If you absolutely would like to preserve your userdata, even if for the sake of backing it up before doing a factory reset, you have to edit the flashall script in the following way:
Windows: Open flashall.cmd in your favorite text editor, go to line #298 and change it from fastboot -w to REM fastboot -wand save the changes.
Unix: Open flashall.sh in your favorite text editor, go to line #275 and change it from $fastbootcmd -w to #$fastbootcmd -w and save the changes.
Once again, this is not encouraged as it can potentially cause issues later on. You've been warned.
Run the script
1. 1. Windows: In the CMD you opened earlier, type flashall.cmd
1. 2. Unix: In the Terminal you opened earlier, type ./flashall.sh
Note: An obvious note, do not disconnect your device from your PC while flashall script is running. Your device will reboot a few times during the execution.
Once script outputs format logdump... and the phone reboots, service firmware will be flashed.
Step 3 - Upgrade to your desired build
Enter Recovery mode via one of the following methods:
1.1. If your phone is turned on and USB debugging is enabled, use command adb reboot recovery
1.2. While in fastboot mode, navigate to Recovery Mode using Volume Up/Down buttons and select with a single press of a Power button
1.3. While in fastboot mode, issue one of the following commands : fastboot reboot recovery or fastboot oem reboot-recovery
Once in Recovery Mode, you have 2 ways to proceed:
A: Update from SD card
A.1. Select Apply update from SD card option
A.2. Navigate your SD card and select UL-ASUS_I01WD-ASUS-16.1220.1909.194-1.1.1-user.zip
A.3. Confirm your choice with a single press of the Power button
A.4. Once you're back to the menu of Recovery Mode, reboot by selecting Reboot system now and enter Recovery Mode once again via any of the above methods
A.5. Select Apply update from SD card option again
A.6. Navigate your SD card and select UL-ASUS_I01WD-ASUS-17.1810.1910.63-1.1.1-user.zip
A.7. Confirm your choice with a single press of the Power button
A.8. Once you're back to the menu of Recovery Mode, select Reboot system now
B: Update through ADB Sideload
B.1. Select Apply update from ADB option
B.2. In your CMD/ Terminal, issue command adb sideload "UL-ASUS_I01WD-ASUS-16.1220.1909.194-1.1.1-user.zip"
B.3. Once you're back to the menu of Recovery Mode, reboot by selecting Reboot system now and enter Recovery Mode once again via any of the above methods
B.4. Select Apply update from ADB again
B.5. In your CMD/ Terminal, issue command adb sideload "UL-ASUS_I01WD-ASUS-17.1810.1910.63-1.1.1-user.zip"
B.6. Once you're back to the menu of Recovery Mode, select Reboot system now
Note: Like I've mentioned earlier, these steps are specifically for build WW-17.1810.1910.63. If your target build does not require another build for an update, you can skip steps A.4 to A.7 or B3 to B5
That's pretty much it. If you followed the steps above correctly, you should once again have a running phone with your desired build of firmware.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
Cheers.

Thanks a lot mate, you made my day!
Please, one question: can you tell me, if both slots (A & B) are flashed by this method?
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
I've wanted to go back to stock for so long, but I haven't been able to find a stock ROM. I've even contacted ASUS support and they couldn't even get it! Thank you so much for the download and for the guide, you've made my week. I'll be smiling every time I use my phone thanks to you!
Great guide. I have a soft bricked device after flashing Lineage 16.0 recovery. Have a boot loop and can't get to recovery. I realise the mistake was flashing the recovery as should have just booted it.
Has anyone else had success with this on a Zenfone 6?
For those who need it; managed to resolve by downloading the stock firmware from Asus, extracting the boot.img and flashing it. Back working.
Didn't try the guide but this is quicker in this scenario if you have flashed a custom recovery to the boot partition. There is no separate recovery partition so this soft bricked the device, overwriting boot with recovery (I followed the guide here for LineageOS which is ill advised) . Should be booting the recovery rather than flashing, or booting into stock recovery and using the installer zip for your custom recovery.
Steps to recover:
1. Download stock firmware from Asus - make sure you use the same firmware version installed on the device or you may find it will boot but some hardware such as WiFi or others may not work.
2. Extract the archive and then you need to extract the boot.img from payload.bin - see this article and use the payload dumper
3. Flash your boot.img with fastboot flash boot boot.img
4. Reboot
Device should restart and boot up. Now to see why TWRP and LineageOS custom recoveries won't boot.
Hi, I followed your tutorial down to the letter, but when trying to install the ROM from stock recovery, I'm getting this error
"Eackage is for product ASUS_I01WD but expected WW_I01WD
Installation aborted"
Any fix? I'm trying to flash the latest Android 10 rom, but no luck.
This worked for me, but I'm still in CSC FastBoot Mode and when Android boots, I'm asked to insert a previous pin, which nothing works. Any advice?

I tried to install latest firmware from
https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-6-ZS630KL/HelpDesk_BIOS/
everything goes fine but it shows till this moment:
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
Sending 'boot_b' (98304 KB) OKAY [ 2.295s]
Writing 'boot_b' FAILED (remote: 'Flashing is not allowed for non-official image')
any suggestions ?

Try flashing latest image of Android 9 and then flash Android 10
Can somebody please help me with my problem?
So I was able to get my hands on a new 8gb/512gb matte black version of this. Was setting up the phone, updated to Android 10 first before transfering sms, call logs and updating apps. Went to turn off the phone to insert my SIM card and now the phone won't turn on. It vibrates every time I press the power button but then nothing. Currently it's connected to the supplied charger with the LED light lit red. It was already charging while I was using it, had about 70% battery before I switched it off. I've tried volume down + power button for 10 seconds, LED light turns off and it vibrates, and it keeps vibrating every 10 seconds when it's connected to the charger (doesn't keep vibrating when it's not connected). Can feel the area between the fingerprint reader and camera pretty hot during this. Volume up + power doesn't work either. Any ideas?

Also, the phone gets detected when I connect it to my laptop but I can't do an "adb reboot" or "adb reboot fastboot" as it says the "error: device is not found."
I left it on charge overnight and the LED changed from red to green too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you connect it to your laptop, go to device manager and check what it is detected as.

I thought it would've been listed in the Ports section but it's right at the top under "Android Device" as "Android ADB Interface". I believe I have the correct Qualcomm drivers installed.
Attached screenie also shows device not found when I try an "adb reboot" in command prompt.

Hmm, I half expected it to be listed as QDLoader 9008, but then it would be under serial ports.
Try fastboot commands instead of adb and also try holding power + vol down for 10-15 seconds
Great guide @_Kuroi_ , I will be trying it out soon. The service rom you are using is pretty old. So I grabbed the last P update service firmware (WW-16.1220.1909.194) and the latest Q build I could get currently (WW-17.1810.2002.133). I have a subscription to one of the paid firmware sites for reasons like this. This way people have more options and it will simplify most people's updating because they can go from the new P service rom to any Q ota. Q firmware doesn't really make sense until it's not being updated anymore but it's here just in case someone finds it useful. If there is some incompatibility in the future or something that requires a newer update I will grab it then. If there isn't I will grab the last firmware once Q is stopped being updated.

Feel free to update your guide to incorporate these all I ask is a credit in the OP for providing it.
After running ./flashall.sh I get the following output:

(I changed square brackets to round brackets in the output because otherwise it wouldnt let me post this comment because of bbcode)
I don't seem to have a recovery partition by the end of it and "adb devices" doesn't show me anything.
Does anyone know what might have gone wrong?
