All,
I've recently discovered these 2 'Slim' ROMs, and was very excited to have done so...
My excitement soon turned to sorrow, however, upon learning that these slimmed down ROMs haven't been ported to Gio.
Now, KUDOS to the developer(s) that created them but wouldn't it have been a good idea to make it so that they can run on lower, less-powerful phones like the Gio? Currently, they only run on much more powerful phones, that have tons of RAM and power. These phones can handle full blown ROMs just fine, the Gio....not so much.
Just a thought.
Man! I wish I could get one of these for my Gio! I'm contemplating trying to install it on my Gio. It's not my everyday phone anyway. I only use it for data usage because I have an INSANE data plan on that phone. I have another phone that I use for calls, etc.
if its currently only for high end devices there's no way coming to gio.

What you've done here is akin to telling a kid that Santa doesn't exist, or like telling a fat kid that the candy's all done. :crying:
Only kidding bud.
Should I try it on my phone? What to do. What to do.
if its for arm v7(galaxy s and higher, htc desire and higher nexus s and newer , etc theres no way bringing it to gio
I've ported the Slim series, once. But it was buggy for me and i decided to discontinue it (Didn't want to fix the bugs...)

LOL.
Wouldn't have the slightest clue how to do it. Plus, my life is such that I barely have time to sleep as it is.
That being said, is there anyone knowledgeable person who could possibly make a thing ROM (ICS/JB) specifically for the Gio? Any Gio lovers developing still?

Bud, I started this post to discuss the "SlimICS and SlimJB" ROMs.
I was wondering if someone could make slimdowned versions of ICS and JB specifically for Gio 5660...
LG P500? LOL. How did that get in here? LOL

LOL I didn't know you meant slimmed down ics and jb... LOL u could've just said so.
If that's the case. Anyone could do that! Even I could whip up a "SlimJB" and "SlimICS" in minutes....
nono, i believe he means he wants a port of the slimics series rom, which is also on lg p500 forums, so technically, you are both right
and not barebones, he wants the rom i think but doesnt know it exist on lg500

Barebones? Heavens no.
Question, would the P500 work on the 5660? Oh! Poster did state that it's buggy. So forget about that.
Thanks all.
Still, any developers feel to work on SlimICS/SlimJB for Gio 5660? Puh-leaseeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Im still waiting on the shipment of a new A100 Ima give my 8 y.o. lil mama for christmas. I need enough time so I could customize it to my liking for her to use. She's pretty techy for her age so I problably will not be limiting so many things on her A100. As of now I own a Samsung Galaxy II (Hercules) rooted with a custom ROM with my own personal theme for it. I also own a 10.1" Toshiba Thrive tablet (great device) also rooted with a custom ROM and with my own personal theme. I pretty much know whats up and I understand that I better read, read, and READ before I ask that universal anoying question "What's the best ROM for my device"....BUT if there is things I need to know about this device that wont be really out there for me to read in plain view then I would appreciate any input from you people. Here's as great thread with a ton of info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711125
Its pretty much going to give you all the info you need.
If you want something rock solid stable and everything works check out Relix flex reaper ICS ROM (probably ideal for a youngster). Set and forget it. I also recommend linuxsociety's twrp 2.2.2.1 recovery (relix already has his kernel). He implemented some tweaks to help prevent bricking.

I wouldn't call flex rock solid by far.
It as well as any cm9 based ROM have all kinds of app compatability issues. Which i don't find on CM10. Seeing as how it is for a child, they will want games, which is soley what i use my tab for. Streaming video as well.
Save yourself the headache and just flash CM10.

As of right now I still haven't checked out what ROMs are avialable for the A100. Im a fan of original-source-based ROMs so any CM based ROMs I wont be checking out unless there are issues with the before mentioned ROMs. Thx for the recomendation though! I got lots to read I know.

If by original source you mean factory, then its AOSP. CM is as based on AOSP as stock roms. Mods that devs do to CM pulls it further from its AOSP base, and is usually where the bugs come up.
Entirely up to you of course, but I wouldn't discount CM10 so easily, its been rock solid for me since source dropped and I started building my ROMs, your A100 will never feel faster. I'd be hard pressed to say any stock based ROM is more stable then cm10, and they are for sure not as fast or smooth. Just my opinion, but keep an open mind.

By original source based I meant the latest stock released by Acer for the A100. Sorry I might it said it wrong and I could see why "original" should of meant AOSP. Trust me Im gonna check a few out cuz I wanna settle with the one with least bugs no matter how tweaked it is for the fact that Im not going to be the one using it all the time.

I agree cm10 is a very nice ROM. It is what I am using now. I recommended relix due to its out of box reliability. I have some app issues on cm that are not apparent on ics, so it is all user/app dependent. Cm10 does have its bugs, but it is the latest, greatest and quickest, which is what most of us power users want.
I definitely recommend checking them both out.
I'm saying CM10 over any ICS because i am a heavy gamer on my tablet. I figured a child is going to be more interested in games than anything else.
If thats the case, nearly half my games crash on any ICS /CM9 ROM I have tried, even Acer stock.
Using CM10, I would say maybe 3 out of like 40-50 games, don't play.
ICS/CM9...half of these games crash.

So I've been reading alot. I'm really disappointed on what I've read about the A100 in terms of hardware (battery, screen responsiveness, that scary emmc bug). I'm starting to regret I ordered in the first place but it was a good deal. A while back I had read good reviews on the A500 and I thought the A100 would be no different. Oh well I really don't want to turn back now. I'll just hope for the best and hopefully I won't run into any issues that will disappoint my lil one with her Xmas gift.
As for what ROM to install, it boiled down to the two mentioned in this thread. I said before that I prefer ROMs based on the official release for that specific device (Flex Reaper I believe) just cuz I always felt it would be the most stable since it was made for that device itself. Now I keep reading that alot of you prefer CM10 but I'm not sure if it is because IT IS more stable (as in everything in the A100 that suppose to work, WORKS) or its just cuz its Jelly Bean (the newest n greatest thing) and its more customizable than ICS. I prefer for everything that suppose to work...to work. I don't like flashing a new ROMs just cuz its the newest thing out there but lets say "bluetooth" its not working as good as the ROM I had before (YES I'm still on GB on my SGSII cuz the ROM its rock solid and EVERYTHING WORKS!). Now knowing that I'm gonna give this to my 8 year old daughter, I needed to be as stable as possible. If I could get some honest opinion between these two ROMs based on what I said I would be really thankful from you great people. THX ahead!!
If you are worried about the emmc bug. Your best defense is linuxsociety's kernel in the dev section, and his twrp 2.2.2.1 recovery. He has implemented changes that could prevent the bricking. If you bought the tablet new and you get a brick, they will warranty it, just make sure you keep your serial number safe. With these bricks they can't tell or don't care about the flashing ROMs.
Seems everyones given their opinions bub.

CM10, duh. I've tried quite a few as well and ended up going back to CM10. Their new update service is pretty slick if you flash a lot. I stick with CM's own kernel because it was designed for his build. Cyanogen has obviously put forth the most work in building android out of any developer out there and this is why I trust his work more than others on here. Multiple people are responsible for changes to the code and review what is to be submitted and not submitted for a better overall experience/compatibility; not just some random Joe Schmo developer tinkering with code.
You can't argue that Cyanogen and his team are the best devs on here, no one here has come close to what he's done with his build system for all of the devices he builds for. He makes CM a simple extension to vanilla android and compliments it very well.
I didn't even like sorcery when I tried it..

Sure you can, and that isn't fair. People have blinders on if they think only CM are the best. CM is a team of over a 100 devs. They have the manpower needed to do what they do. Nobody else does.
One of CM's recent features that they tried to play off as totally original (and many believe it), was in a rom a month prior, the commit provided by someone who has no such "dev" status.
There is talent everywhere. CM is not the answer to it all.

No offense taken. I just think what CM has does is the cleanest solution to a custom build of android for mobile devices. And there's a reason they have so many developers on their team.. and don't forget Cyanogen himself.

You're talking minimal differences man. How many more features does AOKP have over CM10? It's not as many as you think if you list them all, and besides, the CM team has their own that AOKP doesn't have.

Just like with everything else, tastes vary. I prefer a more Vanilla AOSP look, which is basically what you get with CM. Since many aftermarket ROM distributions are based on CM, we should be able to get all kinds of variations after we get a solid CM base to suit everyone's needs.

Gotroot, did you mention previously that you were working on a ROM of some sort?
I'd be happy to throw in for CM support, but a port is likely a good ways off, and after all the trouble that was put into getting us past the bootloader, I'd be happy with just a fully de-bloated, deodexed LG ROM in the interim as I'd prefer not to tiptoe around ripping stuff out with ADB. I'd be interested in contributing to something like that first.

I'm working on CM10.1, as are other devs... I think this is going to be a rehash of the previous thread...
I'd be totally in support of people pledging nonmonetary support, however
Well I would hope that it wouldnt be like lastime .. I just wanted to guve devs that are working on it a reason to work on it and show the community's support.. I agree lastime was just shame full ... I will ask to have this thread closed if anything starts poping off
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium
I will donate $10 for cm10.1
Hey guys,
My missus just ordered one of these phones and its good to see this section of the forums being active, which kinda is causing my dilemma - which rom to install on her phone? I know this question probably gets asked alot and it comes down to personal preference, but I will have limited time to play with her new toy, so testing out a few roms is out of the question. I would like a stock-based rom thats stable and fast and suitable for everyday use - we all hate being asked/yelled at 'why cant this just work' .
Something like Omega for sgs3 or androwook for tf201 tablet, which are both great, stock based roms that add cool extras to the stock experience.
Thanks for your time and suggestions are greaty appreciated.

You don't need to, actually. Stock rom is just already what you want. Still, might look for extra features, though.
