Where did you hear this? I wouldn't count on it... as far as I know we need ICS source specifically for the Inc2 (maybe after Christmas?)... I wouldn't think they would all of a sudden skip ICS and upgrade us to JB... but it would be nice...
I saw the post in android authority and Droid life, but if you read my post it says HTC has scheduled JB upgrade for the Incredible 4G; my question is if Inc2 devs could used such a release to hack/gain source for Inc.

no
It doesn't mean jack poo.
the Incredible 4G has different hardware, which would not do us any good for source, even the Incredible S source hasn't done us any good and that phone is almost identical.

Hello,
I was just wondering when 4g was going to be fixed for sense 2.0 Roms
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 4g speed determined by the network. I don't think sense has anything to do with it. Sprint and Clearwire just need to step up their game. WHo knows when that will happen wipespread. Hopefully rumors of lightsquared come true.
No, I'm talking about sense 2.0 ROMS that have no 4g, when will it be fixed. Like this rom, it has no 4g because it is from a GSM Device:

oh...I knew that But I read somewhere that (maybe miui thread) that they are holding off until gingerbread in a few weeks to begin working on 4g. Although that aosp im sure the same applies to sense.

I haven't heard any new news on implementing 4g into Sense 2.0 roms. I keep checking every now and then, but no 4g yet. I'm sure its a difficult task, to get 4g to work on a port, that had no 4g to start with. As soon as it works, ill be all over the z roms.

we will have gingersense roms soon, won't need to add it to a z/hd port

I can't wait for gingersense, and hope it is indeed soon! Can't imagine how tough that project must be..
when the E3D comes out there will be a port to the evo, gingersense plus 4g. its gonna be sick
Obviously the best option is for a Sense 2.0 ROM to be officially released for the Evo. We don't know if that will happen.
The next best option is the Evo 3D, as NewZJ mentioned. It will have 4G built in, though we don't know if it will "just work" or pose challenges. There could be some differences in chipsets or other differences between the devices that make porting more difficult, or in the worst case even impossible. But I would expect that they'll get it working.
Failing either of those, it's very challenging. Yes, CM got it, but it's based on open source code. They had to reverse engineer the 4G code, but once they did, they could just add it into CM at the source level. It'd be much more challenging to get it to work when we don't have all the source for a Sense ROM. Still, it could be possible.
One more thing..."fixed" isn't the right word. "Added" would be better. Fixed implies that the developers did something wrong in some way. They ported a ROM that simply doesn't have WiMax as a feature. It's not there, so they didn't "break" anything. Yes, compared to another Sense 1.0 ROM, it doesn't work, but it's not really the right way to look at it.

The Sense 2.0 roms were not made for devices with 4G capabilities. As my friend k2buckley stated, devs ported Sense 2.0 over to Sense 1.0 devices like our EVO 4G. With that in mind, 4G is not broke and thus, there is no need to "fix" anything. What they are trying to do is figure out a way to give Sense 2.0 the ability to use our device's 4G capabilities and that will take some time. Be patient, my friend. Many of the devs have other jobs, families and other commitments.

Anyone heard anything about when someone might cook up a ready to use ICS Rom for the EVO?

Only confirmed one I know of is Cyanogenmod 9 coming out in January.

Expect at least two months. And for official HTC roms ported to our devices even longer.

I'm really surprised to find that after searching the evo dev forum that it appears that there aren't any active porting projects. I'm curious to know why that is... the evo 4g seems like a pretty speedy phone that should fairly easily support ics without a problem.
I know that Cyanogen will probably release an ICS port at some point "when it's done" but cyanogen is well known for having extremely long testing cycles before releases (even beta ones) are made and both the ics sdk and sources are now available... the tools are there, i'm just really surprised that it seems nobody is using them.

AFAIK, they've switched the base from the SDK dumps to source as soon as it was released.

Ports like this take months, as the source is not released with the drivers for all devices and the device drivers that are used in Gingerbread AOSP roms are not fully (if at all) compatible with the new OS version, not to mention the amount of testing that is involved to make sure everything is bug-free enough for any kind of beta release. ICS ports are in the works, just don't expect any sort of stable or mostly functional releases for a while...
Source Code just came out so time is needed to have anything stable for are Evo

Source dropped yes but not with the drivers for alot of phones including HTC phones so anything stable will be a few months. Most likely from cm
HTC just confirmed upgrade for the Incredible S, your GSM brother.

Just hopefully hold out a little bit more.
Dude this is great news. That means we'll probably get a good port soon.
Nice! On the edge of my seat.
this is kinda old news man, everyone knows HTC won't update ours but is updating a couple other phones with just the same capabilities

Except for it was only a rumor until now that the incS was gonna be getting it
Sent from my Mikrunny'd Superphone using magic
yeah i had posted the link in the ics discussion thread a few days ago
*only* thing that worries me is that we havent followed inc s update patch (they have official sense 3.0 we doesnt)
and while smarter folks then me might be able to do something with the kernel source, i certainly cant
but the camera files should fix all that stuff for aosp id imagine
I don't think we need to worry about getting it for our exact phone, but as long as we have for the incredible S. At least, our dev's will be able to get some of the hardware working completely.

for aosp yes.....sense maybe
either way we want an ota for us as that gives us 3.xx kernel source at some point
Right, we have a ICS discussion thread here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428358
Please no more new threads, they will just get closed.
cheers colossus.
Basically as the title of the thread says. How do you guys feel so far in regarding the development of the phone?
Do you guys think we shall be seeing more devs coming to us and building fantastic roms? What in regards when the kernel source drops? Or do you feel that the S3 will get the most development?
I for one i am really happy with how things have started. From reading our devs are the best in the business from the HTC side and we have some of the big names. But are more going to come or what would you guys like to see?
Want to say many thanks for our good devs in making our device better and i just hope the development carries on and we have more devs coming to us even though the S3 is out as well.
What you guys think?
I've got Insertcoin, that's all I need!
In all seriousness, once the kernel source drops, I'm sure show-p and faux123 will be all over it. I very much look forward to that!
Considering the very short amount of time the phone has been available to the public, I don't think we could ask for more!
As I said when I first got this phone, the devs we have here are a who's who of my favourites dating back to the Tytn II: LeeDroid, Baad, monx, VillianRom, Core Droid, Mike1986.... also some promising 'new' devs such as J4n87.
All is looking well.

Also really happy so far, but I'm curious about the kernel source. How long does HTC tend to wait until they release it? Can we expect it within a few weeks or are we talking months? Or might they never release it? :O
Also, does anyone know exactly what they're waiting for? Ie, why didn't they release it simultaneously with the phone?
Cheers!

Not sure how long it would take for them to release it my friend. Would of thought it would of been with the release of the phone but we can only hope like in a few weeks..
And yeah i am more than happy with the development so far. Many big time players in our forums. Just feel once the source drops then kernels will drop as well..Thanks guys for your opinions so far.. Do you guys feel that we might see AOSP roms one day?

I`m sure Lee said in his thread that they had 90 days to release the source..i hope it comes sooner than that so the devs can rip it apart and build a better kernel.
From my understanding there's still a lot of unknowns surrounding the kernel and the proprietary drivers, not to mention s-off. I'm confident the devs are all over it like a cheap suit but HTC have done some things differently with the One series which has resulted in some intense chin stroking.
I think once these issues have been overcome (and it will be, its a when not an if) we'll see a lot more community development.
Personally I can't wait to run CyanogenMod on this beast.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the One X isn't running on a Full ICS kernel, It's a Gingerbread Kernel of sorts right?
(due to the first time using Tegra 3?)
If so, my theory would be that they're working on a Full ICS kernel and then releasing the source.
Of course, I'm a noob and I could be talking balls.

you are probably right..was reading it on another thread the same thing..kinda odd if you ask me though for them to do that...we can only wait and see
My One X is the first Android I have ever had and I am new to the whole development and custom ROM community. I have nothing to compare it to but what I have seen is quite amazing.
There is plenty of custom roms already, mike is pushing new versions of he's amazing rom every other week, and he also announced that they will be working together with faux to improve our one x experience once the kernel source is available. And what I have read about faux, i am pretty happy about the future of my One X
I came from the Motorola Triumph to the HTC EVO because of the lack of good working roms it has. That's one of the main reasons I bought this phone (HTC EVO 4G) because of all the developments going on for a 2 year old phone. Like for instance the HTC EVO 4g LTE came out are a lot of you users and devs going to that phone? So my question would be is the HTC EVO 4g one of those phones even though its 2 years old is development still going on? How come development is still going on? I'm not saying that i want the devs to stop developing for it and move on the the HTC EVO 4g LTE. I know the EVO 4g came out in like 2010 and yet is 2012 and development is still going on for it. How come is that not saying that I want the devs to stop and move on to the HTC EVO 4g LTE. Also I know how to port roms so will the roms on HTC Desire HD and HTC EVO 3D work on this phone are there any special mods needed to be done? Oh and one more question do all of HTC EVO 4g ICS have camera(s) working or is it just the back?
I don't know if you've a question or statement in that jumble, but yes, development is still going on. Many of the current devs are working on ICS, there is a sense 4 alpha floating in the development section. in addition, there are also new gingerbread builds being re-worked.

Well that helps. You can attempt to port the desire to the evo, but you'll need some additional things to make it work, I believe. Also, all the ICS roms have the rear camera working; no ICS Evo rom has the front facing camera [ffc] working.
Okay I cleared it up a bit. Should be easier to understand now.
