Bootanimations not working? READ THIS! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Think you got a rom and/or kernel that has boot animation support but the animations just wont work?
You might want to head over here and read this....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31833122&postcount=4

I've used that not very long ago. That works great. I got my favorite bootanimation working on KT747 kernel using this.

Does the stock kernel/ROM support boot animations?

1.If you haven’t already, you should check whether or not your phone is able to play custom bootanimations.
2.Download this bootanimation.zip, I’ve made only for testing, and place it in /data/local or /system/media folder. Or flash this with CWM: CWM_CustomBootanimation_Test.zip
3.Reboot, and if it’s still Samsung original booting sequence, it’s not enabled.
4.If you have a Samsung (touchwiz) based rom (stock), you can easily enable it with my cwm flashable zip, attached to this post.
5.Download both CWM_CustomBootanimation_Enable.zip and CWM_CustomBootanimation_Disable.zip, and place them at your internal sdcard. The reason I say you should get both, is because when trying out different animations, it can easily mess up the boot. If that happens it’s quite simple to just reboot into cwm, flash the disable zip, reboot, replace the animation with a working one, and reboot into cwm again and flash the enable zip. Should be easy for beginners.
**The test animation works for both ICS and JB**
Minimum requirements:
- CF-root with CWM
- Busybox
This has been reported working on:
[ICS]4.0.4 --> [JB]4.1.2
i9300, i9305, Sprint, Verizon and i747m devices.
Though there have been reported issues with the Sprint device.

Extended Power Menu CWM zip

I've searched all over the i747 forum for an Extended Power Menu CWM installable zip file. I'm running a de-ODEXed stock rom updated to the latest version and de-bloated. Does anyone have a CWM Zip file that installs the extended power menu framework modifications that they can post.
Nope. But I can tell you its in the androidpolicy.jar file if you want to snag it from my rom

You could try using the app called quick boot as well. You can use it to boot into download or recovery etc. I find it easy to use on a rooted stock rom. I do agree an extended power menu is more convenient but this is an alternative for now. Otherwise try flashing a custom rom. Jdbeitz who posted above has an excellent rom

@jdbeitz -
Thanks. If you don't mind, I'll snag it from your ROM and build a zip file.
@blue265 -
Hadn't heard of fastboot - will have to take a look at that one, thanks! I usually flash a custom rom on my phone, but I've been using this phone for work, so I'm trying REALLY HARD to keep it pretty close to stock.
Here you go.

It was probably something else. This is a modification of the android.policy.jar file and I could be wrong but I don't believe they are in any way related to one another.
But I will say it doesn't want to turn back on when I try a Quick Reboot. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm also 100% sure this is what broke MultiWindow in stock rooted deodexed (latest version) I flashed the rooted stock deodexed rom first with no mods. The MultiWindow worked fine. I then went back into recovery and flashed this mod and the reboot options seemed to work fine. Then after a little time passed I went to go use MultiWindow and it FC on me. After I reflashed the stock deodexed rom everything was working well again. Also, Viperboy's modded MultiWindow would work fine as long as I didn't also flash this 4 in 1 mod.
I would like to try Josh's other mods (like no camera sounds) but I'm afraid of having to try to patch things up if stuff gets FUBAR.
Ok if you have a root file manager have you tried replacing the file in your system, if it does cause your multi window to force close you can simply replace the modded .jar file with the original, the phone will then reboot but you should do a battery pull. Once you power on the device, android will optimize the apps and your good to go. That should save you the trouble of constant flashing.
yep confirmed. 4in1 somehow borks multi view. been going nuts trying to figure out what was doing it the "last" mod on my list was the 4in1 I almost skipped it thinking how can that do it.
confirmed stock deodex ljc sprint note II. multi view works fine install 4in1 multi view is dead. (also confirmed hot reboot does not work and kills rebooter till you reboot)

yeah, like I said
Does it work in LK8?
Not for me phone went into a boot loop. I havent flashed any mods or kernels either. Im running lk8 deodexed.
I notice I did not update this thread. turns out I installed the WRONG file which is why 4in1 borked multiview. the download link I used did not distinguish one file from another. OP (of the 4in1 thread) has updated and distinguished between the files I installed the right file and 4in1 works fine.
now I need to find 4in1 for the S3
I didn't see one posted for LK8 anywhere else. So I made one myself in case others want it now.

[KERNEL] Permission problems rooted Galaxy S4

After I got my Galaxy S4, I immediately rooted it using CF-Auto-Root. I loved the rooted phone, but there were a few problems with the root permissions:
- SuperSU and all rootcheckers confirmed that I had root access
- ES File Manager would not let me use the Root Explorer feature, it ended with a "Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your phone."
- A paid Root Explorer would let me modify the /system partition
- I could not start Complete Linux Installer, I got errors about permissions starting /root/init.sh
- "adb remount" did not work, even after "adb root". It did work when I used "adb shell" and then "su".
When I downloaded the kernel source from http://opensource.samsung.com/ to make some adjustments, the problems did not disappear. After doing some research, I found the cause: http://gs4.wonderhowto.com/inspirat...galaxy-s4-and-its-new-secured-kernel-0146787/ If you change the lines after ## Samsung rooting ... in .config in the kernel source from =y to =n and then build the kernel, you'll get a system with full root permissions.
For those of you who aren't into building kernels, the same task can easily be achieved by flashing a custom kernel after having flashed CF-Auto-Root. The Adam-kernel from wanamlite (http://wanamlite.com/2013/06/21/adam-kernel-galaxys4-lte-v1-4/) for example. I included a boot.img for flashing with mobile odin, it is a new kernel with only the root permissions fixed. Don't flash the attachment zip but extract it and then flash it with mobile odin, the .img was too large for me to upload. If you get stuck at the logo, reflash the stock firmware from http://sammobile.com/ via odin, you won't loose your files, and leave a comment.
I smell a new developer
nice tip :good:
Used mobile odin flash the boot.img ended can't turn on wifi. Other all worked. So flashed back adam 1.4 kernel.
Send via i9505 using XDA premium,
ROM: Pyrana mf8 1.7
Kernel: Adam 1.4, PHIL 5.06.0
superSU 1.34, 64G exFAT
If you set the lines in question like this:
# CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_ROOTING is not set
The status will be "permissive" and ES file explorer will work fine.

This is the newest kernel from http://opensource.samsung.com/ with the ramdisk extracted from the xxub firmware from Germany. The kernel shouldn't be firmware dependent though.
Hey!
I'm having some trouble even installing roms really... I used CF-Autoroot and it seems fine but when I try to install anything in either twrp or cwm it won't mount different folders and I get different kinds of permission messages!
Any idea what that could be?

I dont think the problems you experience flashing roms have anything to do with the kernel (because the kernel hasn't been loaded yet). When I flashed CyanogenMod on my S4 I had problems too with "set_perm" in custom recoveries, but trying to flash it over and over again solved it.

[HOWTO] Change Bootloader Animation on Stock Rom and CM10.1

I have created this thread to help people easily change their Boot animation on S3. I was running Stock Bell MF1 running KTweaker kernel and this worked. I am now running CM10.1 and it works on that as well. The steps I used to preform and some sources that I have gotten my animations from are all listed below. If you click the links Please, Please hit the thanks button under each threads OP as these are the guys who actually did the work. Im just a guy sharing my experience. If you report success or failure with this method, please leave Rom/Kernel info in your comment so others have something to search for. And of course before doing any of this create a Nandroid. Enjoy.
For CM10.1 skip step 1
1: My very first step was to flash the 'Bootanimation_support.zip' file from the following link. It enabled bootanimation support for my rom. https://app.box.com/s/blvftexwa2b7vap42rfm
2: take bootanimation.zip file from any of the lower sites and push it to data/local and reboot. There are some in these links that dont seem to work, just try another. Want to be sure it works. Use first link and you will see.
This is the best one I have ever seen. The youtube link in the post shows video of it running on an S2, but I assure you it works as it is the one I am currently using. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982078&highlight=boot+animation
This one has a few to chose from. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867706&highlight=boot+animation
Here is another one that I will confirm working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30478959&postcount=20
Also this one if you open the zip /data and take the bootanimation.zip out and put in sd/data/local. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888848&highlight=boot+animation

I tried this, downloaded the flashable zip of the countdown boot animation, flashed in recovery, confirmed it was placed in data/Iocal, permissions are rw/rw/rw, but I'm still getting the stock Samsung boot!! I have an AT&T i747 running deTmobilized 1.5 with stock packaged kernel... Something I'm missing?

I also have the same file in system/media. I believe it is the stock animation, so i'd leave it alone. If you use an animation that is not working it will automatically go back to this one.
I have just tested this on CM10.1 as well and will confirm it to work. For CM10.1, I skipped step 1 flash and just moved bootanimation.zip to data/local. Again I am running Ktweaker, but the AOSP version this time.

[Mod] Enable Bootanimation.zip support for Stock 4.3 & 4.4.2

Here's 2 modified "/system/bin/bootanimation" files that points to a bootanimation.zip file instead of bootsamsung.qmg files.
One for 4.3 based roms, and one for 4.4.2,
Check it out, there is a readme inside the zip file.
This is NOT a flashable file, because not everyone is using custom recoverys on there stock roms. Use a root explorer to change the files
DO NOT FLASH, AND USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
As always Enjoy!
Download Link - http://www.dillonpos.com/note3toolkit/BootBinary/Bootanimation_Binary_Note_3.zip
NOTICE: There seems to be a 25% chance this will not work for some people (mostly 4.3 roms) If this doesn't work for you troubleshoot as follows:
1. Did you put a good bootanimation.zip in /system/media/?
2. Did you setup the /system/bin/bootanimation file's permissions properly? (permissions should be rwxr-xr-x)
3. Did you use the right file for your rom?
If after checking these it doesn't work please pm me with your model and rom info, Thanks

Since deodexed roms boot up differently I can't guarantee this will work with it. It was intended Samsung based "odex" roms. Sorry.
If I do find one that works with Deodex roms I'll let you know.
