Dear wonderful community.
Yesterday my htc one was lost..sad. So i went and purchased a brand new t-mobile samsung galaxy s4 (m919).
I went home and wished to root it. Simple process. Just one big problem. My pc did not want to recognize my phone.
Ok. So i figured let me go to the website and download latest drivers. Nope! Didnt work. Ok, let me try the kies method. Nope! Didnt work either. There is literally nothing that is going in my favor at the moment. I tried my friends galaxy s2, hey what do you know, easily recognized. Tried my s4 again. Nope! Absolutely refuses to be recognized. So here we are at work. Tried on my work pc. Guess what? Nope again!
Somebody please please please help me!
And again im sorry if this is a repost topic, if so please just point me in the right direction! Thank you ahead of time!

That should run Odin okay...
Are you using Odin to try and root it? That's the easy way to go.
I used XP and didn't need to install any drivers.

Try it and see. I bet it will work.
My guess is that you are using an older version of abd, which does not support android 4.2.2, which is why your s2 works fine.

Have you turned on the developer options? Have to do that before it will be recognized.
Try uninstalling the drivers with your phone unplugged, reboot, reinstall drivers, reboot again, then plug your phone in again.

Did you ever find a fix for this? My port is damaged as well.
Have you tried towelroot
It doesn't require a computer, but I've heard it doesn't work on the newest nj1 unless the exploit has been updated.
My device mini port is broken as well and I have tried towelroot and all others and still havent been able to root. phone on 4.4.2 new bootloader any suggestions is great.
use kingoroot
I've given away 2 of my at&t sgs3's. I used these files on all three of the sgs3's. Hope it's some help. I have files all the way back to ics if needed.
Search the forums using file names for original posts. I own our author none of these files.

How would I go about rooting this. i've tried towelroot(Didn't expect it to work)
I saw a few different root methods when I googled but all on random blogspot sites(which i believe to be untrustworthy) what do you guys find the best way to do it is? also anyone heard of srsroot? i have never heard of it but apparently it works for this version of the firmware for this phone.

Hey sorry didn't get the email about your response. I actually tried every method I could find(including that one) and they all just leave me with eu.supersu.com (or something like that) installed but crashing everytime I launch it. I'm doing it from completely stock. I flash the stock Rom back on through Odin after each failed attempt. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Also I have rooted a few phones before so I do know relatively what I'm doing.
This is what I followed

Tried that method. Also failed. Same problem as with others. I may just have to flash a custom recovery and change roms... I wanted to keep stock but if I can't find a way.
Have you tried Framaroot? I really have almost no experience with the note 2, and I read here that the rooting method of choice is Chainfire's as terpin32 suggested, but the Framaroot thread does list the note 2 as a supported device. Do you know what bootloader you have? If it is locked, I don't know if this works.

I'm a bit confused as to why you are having issues rooting your Note 2. I have the Rogers Note 2 i317m and it was on the same firmware and rooted it without any issues using the link I provided and from the looks of it you even tried methods that are better. I wonder what other factors may be affecting your rooting processes.
Where does the process fail and on which rooting instructions?

Well they all appear to successfully root the phone but when the phone reboots I get an app(titled eu.supersu.com or something like that) that crashes immediately every time I launch it with most of the methods. A few methods gave me a working supersu app but no su binary. I'm really getting frustrated oh I'm also on Rogers I don't think I mentioned that. Maybe I should try factory reset in it in case any apps are causing the problem.

Just figured i'd let you guys know I finally worked up the nerve to factory reset(i hate doing it) and it fixed the problems i was having.I also had to manually reinstall the supersu apk after rooting.
Glad you got it sorted. Setting everything up again is not trivial, but sometimes it has to be.
Hello from Montreal Quebec,
I unrooted my S3 yesterday back to the original firmware 4.3 (factory reset) Everything was working fine with the phone. I turned off the phone and when I tried to turn it back on... nothing happened, no vibration, nothing, would not power on, screen blank. I did try to get it into download and still nothing. So I think my phone is Hard Brick. Just so you know, my battery is 100%.
I did try putting the debrick image for my phone (debrick-SGH-I747M-UEMK5) on a 16gb sd card using Win32DiskImager. With number attempts of pressing the volume down + home key + power button for 15-30 seconds, nothing works.
One thing I notice, if I plug in my phone to my pc or wall for a few seconds, the red light for charging will come on so I know there is some kind of life. Sometimes when I put in the battery, the Torch light will flash once, but no luck getting the phone into download mode.
Would I need Jtag to get this back up and running and is there any other way to do this without Jtag?
Please let me know, any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.
qks
Plug onto the computer and open device manager. If it shows QHSUSB_DLOAD its hard bricked.
In this case if the debrick method doesn't work, jtag is the only other option. Try different sdcards first if you can. Many times it doesn't work simply because of the sdcard.
What worries me though is how this happened. Did you flash anything before the factory reset? If not, its possible you could be looking at a hardware failure such as the memory. Hopefully not though...

Thanks for the reply, I did what you said and I see nothing in device manager. The red light came on while the battery and sd card was in the phone...
What happen was I un-rooted the phone using "How to Unroot Samsung Galaxy S3! [No Computer] [AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon]" on youtube which I can't post here.
I have done this many time with this phone (About 5 times) without any problems. This is a first for me and I'm puzzled.
So you did or did not flash something before resetting?
Did it used to connect to the computer and are you using the stock usb cable? If yes, it sounds like hardware problems.

I flash the original firmware if that's what you're saying. I did exactly what I mentioned in the video on YouTube which at the moment I can't post outside links but this is the title on YouTube... "How to Unroot Samsung Galaxy S3! [No Computer] [AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon]"
I used stock usb cable.
Dont take it wrong, not intending this to sound rude, but I generally dont watch vids that people use. I like to answer what I can and move on. It just takes a lot less time to read that you flashed the firmware and factory reset than to watch a vid to see what you did.
One thing the video cant tell me for sure though is what firmware you had before and which did you flash this time. I know you said original, but that original version will depend on when you actually bought the device.
looking back over the thread though, im wondering if you did have 4.3 firmware, and then flashed 4.4.2 firmware with Mobile Odin? Is this accurate?

No worries man, I had firmware 4.3 rooted and then flashed with stock 4.3. with Mobile Odin. Never had a problem before until now.
Ok, just wanted to be sure. If you had flashed 4.4.2 over 4.3 with mobile odin, it would permanently break your phone, but it happens exactly how you described in the op.
Which 4.3 firmware was running on it and which did you flash? I just noticed there are several different 4.3 builds for the I747M. MK5, MK3, ND2, ND3.
You tried the mk5 debrick.img, but if you had ND2, for example, that image probably won't work. It could also just be that your sdcard isnt right. Were you able to try any different ones?

I used the I747M 4.3 build as always. I did not try the mk5 debrick cause it's not I747m but I can try that and see if it works. Going to look for one now.
As for SD Cards, I have a 16GB and a 32GB, no luck.

Sorry mk5 is I747M, my bad.
I tried
debrick-SGH-I747M-UEMK5
debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3
No luck...
MJB wont work on the I747M. MK5 will probably only work if you are sure thats what you were running. As I mentioned before there are several 4.3 builds for that model. Some depend on your carrier.
For example Telus and Koodoo, and possibly one or two other carriers got updates from MK5 to ND2. So if you had been updated to the newer ND2 build (still 4.3), that MK5 image isnt going to work.
If you are certain you were running MK5, then it could be the sdcard youre using is the problem, or it may not be recoverable using that method.

Ok, then its either the sdcard or its not recoverable without a jtag service.

Yea i've seen them, many are having problems because almost everyone is on the new A0J1 firmware (OTA) samsung pushed mid september. And seems that chimera tool uses a custom boot IMG that was built on AOGG firmware the (factory default)[Theorizing], not 100% sure. But, i think downgrading and then running through the tool might resolve some problems.

It still doesn't work, I actually used Odin to downgrade to COGG and then tried to root using the tool, So it successfully "roots" but in the process I lost my IMEI and according to another person on here the tool is useless as it's not the "root" the end user is looking for. I verified this using root checker and it comes back without root. Ended up Going back to the latest firmware with ODIN.
