Ringtone resets itself? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've had the problem on a couple roms where my ringtone will reset itself back to the stock one. I'll change it and a couple hours later it'll change itself back. Anyone else having a issue like that our can help me out?

I've had that problem with ringtones on my external sdcard. I copied my favorites to the internal sdcard and haven't had the problem since.

Does this happen to you ?

Lately I've been really annoyed with phone, for some reason it just randomly reboots for God knows what reasons! Is this common or even a known issue ?
Are you running stock or a custom rom and kernel? I've never had a reboot with stock or on Starburst with lostkernel.

I dunno man, if that isn't happening without some 'aftermarket modifications', umm, I'd swap the damn phone. That isn't normal. I never get reboots unless I am overclocking on perf gov with everything maxed out...and that's pretty much it. If you are getting reboots just sitting there or dicking around on the internet that would be more than enough reason for me to take it in and swap it out...especially if you can reproduce the it for them.
Thanks for the replies guys, to answer your questions no I'm completely stock running stock kernel and it happens whenever I'm online or some apps will trigger it. I'd hate to restore but I think it's the only way
Ive had it a couple times.
It started after uploading app from market installing it while I was deleting one at same time
device crashed reboot took place.
From that point a had a couple reboots within days Touchwiz error displaying automatically going to phone keypad no escape from it.
I ended up doing factory reset fixed it all is well
did you by chance take an SD card out if another phone and pop it into that phone? if so, back up whatever data is on it, and try formatting it (if that cures the reboots, obviously something on the sd is corrupt and not cooperating with the system... dont restore anything from that backup you took after formatting) I would then try a facotry reset if the previous doesn't work. if the factory reset doesn't cure it, I'd swap the phone.

Thanks guys, I installed all the apps I could to the sd card. In other words all the apps were in the internal memory and that seems to fix the issue.
I'm not rooted and I'm getting random reboots.

Swype re-add contacts

I reset my Swype dictionary and I was wondering how to put the contact's names back in, they were in there before without me having to do anything and after clearing the dictionary they aren't.

It should do it automatically, but it won't do it instantly. Try rebooting your phone.

SWYPE/ rebooting and readding the same contacts over and over..
I have flashed w/ several 4.0.4 ICS custom Rom.
I have faced very strange happening which is 4 or 5 times repetitions of contact members despite my sync option is always OFF..
I am sick and tired of cleaning them where stored and reimporting from card.
I wonder what makes them to repeat too many times..
Is it because of SWYPE and rebooting ?
How to prevent such trouble ?
Any suggestion/ thanks in advance..

getting custom ringtone recognized in CM9

Ok, this makes NO SENSE. I have been using CM9 RC1 since it was posted with no problems. Yesterday, in the middle of my day, when my phone rang, the ringtone was different. I looked at it and it was one of the cm9 ringtones. CM9 will not recognize my custom ringtone i have been using now for years in the ringtone folder. Any suggestions? I did a complete reflash from square one and still no luck.
Is the ringtone showing up in the list, just not playing? If so, the system can't find it on the SD card and is reverting to the default tone. Try defragging your SD card or backing up and reformatting.

updating permissions seems to correct this glitch. at least it did this time. not sure why it happened in the first place.

[Q] JB Media Server Drain

Hi everyone,
I just updated to JB and noticed that Media server (66% usage) has been keeping my phone awake for the entire time (4 hours). Is there any fix to this? It's running hot and draining 10% per hour (and it's been idle).
Disable it? uninstall [root]?

It's always recommended you so a factory reset after any update. That should fix it.
The thing is though, I wiped everything, installed the update using ODIN, wiped that and then flashed the Black Jellybean rom. :/
Look at whsts under media server in batt stats.
Go in app manager and clear data for each one. Reboot and give it at least 5 min to rebuild library.
Prob need to clear data for these

Download (both)

strangely enough there isn't anything under media server.it's been keeping my phone on now for 7 hours. I'll give your suggestion a try.

What version of what kernel does this issue occur on? In October, the CM10 builds had issues with media server drain that coincided with kernel commits. 3.0.46 or 47 i think had those issues.
I assume its the official JB update, not a custom rom.

Requires more than that. Media Storage usually isnt the primary culprit. See my post towards top.

I've been having this issue for a while now on Frosty. I tried what Doc mentioned earlier, but it doesn't seem to work after restarting my phone. The only way I can stop it from draining is to go into battery and stopping the process.

If that didnt help, the next step is to factory reset and reflash.
If that doesn't work then itll be something on your sdcard causing it to hang/wig out.
It may be a corrupt media file, or just something on there it thinks is media and when it attempts to load its info into library it screws up. Im just guessing at this part, but if you do a complete clean install, all thats left is your sd data.
Youd need to backup, and reformat the sdcard most likely.

This wont help in my experience. I intentionally reflashed everything last night and left my sd card out, and it still does it
I've done tons and tons of experimenting with this issue over the past 24-48 hours and I was able to come up with a solution that worked for me. I examined the external.db file which is located in /data/data/com.android.providers.media/ and noticed that it scans all files on internal SD and Micro SD right after each reboot. I had a 1.6gb titanium backup folder on the Micro SD which was taking the scanner a lot of time to get through so I copied that to the PC and deleted it from my phone.
I also got rid of a whole bunch of other unneeded files like roms that were just sitting around taking up space. So now instead of my phone running max CPU utilization for 10-15 minutes after reboot, it only does it for about 1-2 minutes and settles down.
Thats normal behavior for it. Naturally the more data you have the longer it takes to scan. 10-25mins is longer tgsn I believe it hss to be, but the issue a lot if people are having is this process will continuously run forever! Causing 10-15% power drops in less than an hour!
All I know for certain is the couple of suggestions I posted in here have worked for others ive helped in the past, the first one I mentioned seems to work most often and has worked a few times for me. Obviously they dont always work for everyone. I just wish we could figure out the exact cause!

This is a problem that ruined my experience with the JB leaks since I've never had this problem on CM10. I hope it's as easy as releasing a patch.

I FOUND A FIX! Apparently, I had 300 mp3s that needed fixing so I ran a program "Mp3 Scan + Repair", fixed all my mp3s and put it back on my sd card. Also, I removed all m4as and converted them into mp3s. This was a suggestion for how to handle mediaserver issues from ICS so I was surprised it worked for JB

Awesome dude. I also read somewhere that the CFQ I/O scheduler has more of an issue w/ media scanner than others. I'm not sure how true that is, but lately I've been running 2ghz as max speed w/ SIO for I/O Scheduler & interactive governor along w/ the other things I've done and I get less than 1 minute of CPU trashing after each reboot. I will have to try that program though to see if it can get me down to zero.

Frustrated

My Google Music app freezes and won't play after a few songs and I have already followed some advice to fix it, but the issue keeps coming back and my other issue is the Ringtone I selected keeps being disregarded and goes back to the default Ringtone. Can anyone help? I am currently on Frankenstein rom, but I have had the same issue on other roms as well.
