I have a rogers e971, I live in downtown Toronto,l the skyrocket always had full bars in my house, this phone is always on 1 maybe 2 bars int he same areas.
Second problem: the viewing angles of the screen, at ankle the screen has a noteable shift to yellow, vs my nexus, or even an iphone, it doesnt seem very ips like? Is it supposed to do this?

i notice crappy reception also. I am with Speakout, a company that uses Rogers networks. Unlocked the phone and tried a bell sim card -- gives me better signal. So not sure if it is specifically a rogers issue (live in brampton). A bunch of times, I noticed that it would not even connect to a network until I restart, which is more likely a software issue.
no issue with the yellow screen here.

If you are seeing a yellow tint in your phone then that is a problem. I would show that to a rogers rep and see if they will be able to exchange that for you.

So I picked up a T-Mobile Galaxy S II today. Wife has the Sprint version of this phone. They both have the same size display. Same resolution. Same display technology (Super Amoled Plus). So they should look about the same. Right?
Unfortunately for us, they do not. The Sprint version has a much better display. The contrast and the colors are simply better there. The text is easier to read.
See the attached comparison shots. T-Mobile phone is on the left in both shots. I turned brightness of the display all the way down on both phones. In the first shot, both phones are displaying blobs.jpg, posted elsewhere in this forum. The T-Mobile phone shows ugly bright lines and dots. And the Sprint phone shows a black screen. Exactly what I see on my PC.
The second picture shows the washed out colors of the T-Mobile screen compared to the Sprint phone.
I am quite disturbed by this discovery. I cannot explain the discrepancy. Can anybody?
I am also of the opinion that every T-Mobile S II user suffers from this defect. Some people simply do not notice it. They would have to put their phone against a Sprint unit to see the difference.

Many of my friends and classmates carried the S3 in Pebble Blue..
I have the Marble White version
I have realized 3 issues with Pebble Blue models on the ATT/Rogers GS3 i747m
The first one being the OLED screen has some mura stains on it.. I wouldn't really call it stains, it is more like dots... Compare to my PS Vita, the OLED on the GS3 Pebble Blue is much less visible to the eye in a dark environment, and the GS3 mura do not have a lot of "stains", but rather the mura on the GS3 are composed of many darker dots and some bands on the screen.
The second one being the home physical button is colored differently than the dark blue on the rest of the phone. In most lit conditions, the buttons appears Purple rather than dark blue, and yes, I know it happens to the GS3 International as well since people reported it.
The last issue I have see is the button backlight for the MENU and the BACK capacitive buttons. If viewed in a dark environment or a dark room, I can see that the right side of the MENU button is dimmer than the right side of the MENU button, and the right side of the BACK button is dimmer than the left side of the BACK button.. This means the buttons have the LED backlight around the HOME key area..
On my White GS3, there is no mura (my S3 from Rogers is manufactured on July of 2012)... This might be I got a good batch... The Pebble Blue version that had the mura was manufactured on June of 2012, and it might have been a bad batch...
The physical button for HOME is the same color as the rest of the phone's housing... But of course, with the white version you are sacrificing the "imitation brushed aluminum" finish...
Also the backlight for the MENU and BACK buttons are much much more lit up evenly.. <<<< This is probably due to the white color glass and white LED and it is more translucent... ****NOTE: Because of the translucency, the LED notification light (R, G, B colors) appears to have a glowing halo around it when it lights up. You DO NOT SEE THE HALO ON THE PEBBLE BLUE VERSION.. On the Pebble Blue version, the LED is seen as a circular shape with a sharper edge.. On the Marble White, the LED is seen as a circular pe with blurred edge, kinda like an out of focused light source (Bokeh) in photography....
Anyone out there with a White color or Blue color that has issues with OLED mura/stain/dots/bands when it displays a completely black image and viewed in a dark room?
I always just assumed the home button was purple on mine xD
Mine's purple. I like purple so It's fine.
My issue is with wifi and it's different than the drop reconnect issue most are having. I know Samsung has notoriously weak wifi antennas but I should at least be able to leave the room my router is in and maintain signal. I can't. I also can't use hotspots in most public places because the signal is just too weak for my phone to pick up.
I'm going to be getting a warranty replacement when I get back from vacation in a couple of weeks because I need my phone until then.
My s2 had a single splotch / sorta blurry part on its screen sorta looked like water damage? ( is that the mura people speak of)
My white s3 is pristine and perfect in every way I was very happ about that. Checked the screen before I ever even left the store.
Well Samsung is not really notorious for the WiFi antennas..
My Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) has very good WiFi signal even in the basement.. In the public space, I could pick up numerous WiFi signals....But on my GS3, yes indeed, the WiFi is EXTREMELY WEAK.
I have to literally be in the same room as the wireless routers to get around 2-3 bars.. I have to be 10-20cm from the router to get a full signal WiFi connection...
Read my WiFi thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794927
From my other WiFi thread, some people are reporting that they exchanged the phone and the WiFi is excellent... I do not believe this is the case though since I have exchanged my phone a day or two ago, and the WiFi is still weak, but at least it does not randomly disconnect like my old defective unit...
I just got my GN2 today and I noticed pretty fast that there's a constant faint black line that runs across the width of the screen and has one dead pixel on it.
I know I probably cannot fix this without sending the phone away to get repaid. I emailed in to get this seen to. But has anyone had this problem before, and possibly found a solution/cause for it? This is quite annoying, considering it's such an expensive phone.
I don't have any dead pixels and my screen is excelent, but I have this exact same issue that I had with the Note 1. While I'm on my bed about to sleep (what I mean is.. you can only see this when on a dark room, almost pitch black) and I have a grey background I can see black lines on the screen, on my Note 1 they looked like stains, like little drops and on my Note 2 they are lines , 2 on the left corners (bottom and top). They never bottered me because you can't see them under normal use and they don't even seem to affect the screen in any way, but when I found my Note 2 had it too, I don't know, felt a bit dissapointed since it is such a great -and expensive- piece of work. I don't care about it but I though I was the only one. Clearly I'm not. But like I said it doesn't affect my screen in any possible way and you can't see it 99& of the time so I don't care =)

Yeah I seen a lot of people complaining about that on the original Note. The line doesn't cause any screen issues, it just really irritates me because now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it. That, and a dead pixel is just poor show! Once I return this I'm going to buy the UK LTE version, if possible. The UK LTE situation is terrible right now, though.
I've had my phone about a week and the screen is fine when I'm inside. But I noticed on the way home from work (I walk from my work, about 10 minutes away) that the more I took my phone out, the more I noticed horizontal banding. It freaked me out a bit (I bought this phone from Swappa), but as I got back in a warm environment, the banding went away. Went back out for a run and it did the same thing.
My question is:
1. Is this normal behavior for AMOLED screens, for this device, or is it a defect?
2. Will this temperature change hurt the phone? I live in Wisconsin and odds are it's going to be cold a lot.
3. Should I get a snuggie for my phone?
Never noticed any banding, perhaps i'm not really looking for it.
Will look out for it when my phone gets back from the service center..
Take mine skiing all the time. No banding.

Well I've read up a bit on horizontal banding and i know it's common with this phone. But I've never had anyone say it's temp related.

I noticed this as well with my phone. I had horizontal banding all the time, but the banding seemed to be more pronounced when the phone was cold.
I returned it for a screen replacement under warranty and just got it back about a week ago. The banding is now gone and I don't see it when the phone is cold, either. I don't think the banding is normal but, if it is occurring, it can be made more noticeable when the phone gets cold.
Breaking news : the GN screen is crap.*
*there aren't any existing threads about it on XDA, not a single one. /s
When you say banding do you me slightly darker stripes (almost like shadows) or do you mean bright white horizontal stripes where no information can be seen.
I live in the north of Sweden and often subjected my old Galaxy S to -10 to -20°C. I would quite often see white banding or rows of white pixels. These always disappeared whed the phone was taken inside. The phone still works faultlessly today.
For me, the horizontal bands were linear "shadows" of lower screen-brightness alternating with linear areas of normal brightness. There is no loss of information.
After the screen replacement, I would say the screen is as nice as on any phone I've used. My last phone was a Nexus One, and the new screen is comparable in quality to the one on the N1.
I got my G3 today at T-Mobile at 10am. I noticed two things. Once the text in Google Apps, and on websites, where there is a light grey backgroud behind the text it makes the text look more like pre HD days and very over sharpened... Also the screen has a ton of faint 'grayish' lines going through it (it almost makes the entire screen look grainy...) which I usually only notice on white screens or areas with light colors...... I am wondering if anyone else is seeing this at all? So far I'm unimpressed with this screen and I kind of regret trading in my G3. I'm thinking about running back to T-Mobile and see if their display model shows the same things but I wanted to see if anyone else noticed any of those issues above?
Do some searching around for "over sharpening". This has been discussed, it does suck, and it is not strictly with the T-Mobile variant of the G3.
I don't have any of these issues at all.. Screen is crisp and bright and I can't see the digitizer at all.. Love this phone! White version here.
I think the color is pale comparing with other phones.
I'm curious if changing the dpi will help with the over sharpening.

Like he said, it's the over-sharpening algorithm they have applied to the display. You'll either get used to it or you won't or.. Some update will make it optional. It hurts more than it helps, but that's what LG chose to go with, so..

I notice the over sharpened text but its not as bad as some guys on here make it seem. I can most definitely live with it.

Don't worry, mine is the same way also..
First thing I noticed right away when I received the phone, almost looks like pentile matrix amoled which I despise.
The thing I enjoy most about IPS LCD especially high resolution ones are the smooth soothing crisp look of text. What LG has done with this oversharpening crap is a travesty, whoever gave the green light to this should be fired. Text on white looks okay, but add in any light background and it becomes a mess, like a low resolution jagged mess.

Screen shot?
I'm know now that the text over-sharpening is the problem with the text on grey and light colored backgrounds and that it's happening with everyone. But the only thing that really bothers me is that I can see all of the little lines of the digitizer of the screen on white background and some light blues. Its very subtle but now that I noticed it I cannot unsee it. The two T-Mobile displays both do it at the store so I guess I'm stuck with it... It's kind of lame because it makes some things look grainy and ugly...

Since I tried it at Corp Store, I will take a pic to show.
Generally you have to move the circle in between 1st and 2nd center icons and you should get a bit better color (I tested it with my Note 3 and Note 8).
In addition, I realize the "over sharpening" text issue when the font is wrapped by "shadow". When it shows in webpage, email...etc, the text looks OK. It's like Note 2 when playing video in small window.
I just exchanged it, and then adjusted the color to your suggestion. I also set the animation speed to x.5 and its blazing fast. Screen is much better so its all good. Battery life is better on this one too
That Accessibility setting is meant for colorblind and/or nearly blind people to adjust their screen so that they can actually see it... probably a law that requires it. It is *not* a screen calibration tool and not a solution for fixing an off-color or bad screen.
I have examined some different models in different corp stores (DeKalb Ave, Fulton Street, Madison Ave/42nd, Broadway near City Hall, Court Street, 86th Street near Bay Parkway) and found that:
I compare my Note 3 and used Chrome to open Google.com (desktop view).
The screen looks reddish has more "overly shading" fonts on standby problem, but
The screen looks cooler (blueish tint) looks brighter and "normal".
In addition, the model has "cooler" screen runs cool.

I'm on Verizon and I have the same exact issue with my screen. With the default wallpaper you can see the faint 'grayish' vertical lines, and the over-sharpening can be seen on the Since some people are saying they don't have any issues, I'm wondering if it's a device specific issue and should exchange for another one...
This is literally the only thing I don't like with this phone.
