I am running the latest build from Muzzy for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus currently released yesterday. OS V 4.2.1
I am not having any issues with GPS locking in but when I try to use the Sprint Family Locator app, I am unable to locate my son's phone also on the same rom. I get a general network based location but cannot get a GPS location. I flashed his phone back to the stock 4.1.1 image from Google and the problem went away. It's as if the app cannot request a precise GPS location. Any thoughts?
I love the new builds and would hate to go back to stock but being able to keep tabs on my child is important. Knowing he is within a 1200 ft raduis is funny but not helpful LOL
Fixed?
You posted this a while ago and I was just wondering if you ran into a fix?
I am running a 4.2.1 rom and my GPS locks onto satellites but the tracking is way off.
I use a workout tracking app that worked fine but after my update to a 4.2.1 rom the tracking is not working.
I tried multiple workout trackers and all are having the same problem.
I know for a fact that my route is 15 miles, but the trackers now report I've gone on a 190+ mile trip...
I have problems with GPS on a different ROM but when I turn on both settings in location access it works fine.
I don't like to use the allow Google to collect my data but give it a try its the allow WiFi and mobile network location.

Hello,
Since I have rooted my myTouch 3G Slide I started to notice GPS problems.
But it's funny how some things related to GPS work, and some don't.
Examples:
- Weather: can determine my location perfectly and show weather from that region.
- Maps: can't determine my location, or shows it in completely random place, or maybe like 2-3 miles off. But now I just checked it works perfectly when plugged into usb (charge mode). But now if I unplug and use maps it will work perfectly. But sometimes it's just gay...
- Facebook Location: sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Pretty much same as maps
I have tried many roms and this happens on every rom there is.
Currently I am using stock rooted rom with su.
Possible thoughts: GPS doesnt work on full power when not plugged into usb and thats why it cant find location...
P.S. Off-topic question. Anyone knows good offline navigation with gps tracking?
Are you using a Froyo ROM? And if so, did you upgrade to the latest radio? In my experience, anytime I switched to a ROM that changes a major version of the software, the radio had to be upgraded. The latest is 7.09 still I believe... The "randomness" of location working is probably because you're not waiting for a GPS lock. When maps shows you not exactly in the same place, it is not "random", it has located you based on the cell towers in your area, as a "calculated" approximate location. Think of "triangulation" that was popularly used in the movies when they would track a person via cell phone. Almost all the apps that can use your locations can use either location by GPS or location by network.

Hmm I never updated the radio cause I have had no idea what it is, but I will look into upgrading it. And hmm, maybe GPS doesnt work at all and those apps that work use network to figureout location.
But anyway I installed CoPilot and it worked great so far.
Lokking forward radio upgrade, and thanks for info
Does anyone else have any issues with Tasker locations not working. I can't seem to get it to fire when using the cell phone polling when changing locations. I have also tried Llama as well and I have the same issue. I worked fine on my EVO and EVO3D but not the Samsung Epic 4G.
When I go and create a new state based on Cell Towers it will locate them but it will never update when I leave the area. I have also tried using network option but that doesn't work either.
I would like to know if anyone has these options working.
Thanks.
I have used location. but it was based on GPS. only issue I have had so far with this phone and tasker is the proximity sensor triggers but never turns off.
I've noticed that locations in general don't properly work with this phone unless you have GPS enabled. The phone is supposed to be able to get a location based off whatever cell tower it's connected to, however it doesn't update this information unless you do a reboot. For instance, my phone still thinks it's connected to the tower nearby where I live despite being 14 miles away in a different city where I work. Google Maps, Open Signal maps, ANY application will tell me the same thing. It's an annoying bug that's been around since the phone came out.
For me, GPS and network location services seem to die after being in deep sleep for a while. Opening Terminal Emulator and restarting the GPS Daemon by typing "gpsd" gets GPS going for me again, haven't got network location restarted yet.
I also don't know if this has been an ongoing issue or not, just started really noticing it on the recent EL leaks. I'm hoping Samsung gets it fixed soon.
That's pretty much the same problem I've been having. I have gone back and forth with the developer for Llama and he said that it's a OS issue that's the cause.

What i did to resolve this problem is i did a full stock restore back to eg30 everything. i backed up the Network location apk and the gps.conf file. I then rooted again and flashed the latest Calkulin's v.2.8 ROM and restored the stock files into the custom ROM. GPS lock is instant and updating to current location is a snap. this kind of surgery is not very scientific but it works every and all the time. Im working on a .xml that will take care of this instead of me cutting and pasting with from ROM to ROM.
Hello, I just purchased an Epic Touch and have had the same problem, where coarse network-based location does not work correctly. It also seems as if it's an OS-related issue since coarse location does not update in google maps, either.
The only temporary resolution I've found is to release and renew the aGPS state using a 3rd part app, such as GPS fix or GPS test. However, this is useless when trying to use tasker to switch between different location-based states...
Has anyone found any resolution since the OP?
Using GPS essentials I can see 6-9 satellites but cannot get a lock. Not from a single satellite. I didn't have this issue before upgrading to Jelly Bean. Uses to lock in like 5-10 seconds.
Suggestions?

Not sure. Something is up though. I'm randomly having issues too. I never had a GPS issue on jelly bean until today

Same
I'm trying a nexus on Tmobile (tired of slow sprint speeds). GPS went down today. Cannot get a lock. Talked to a friend that also has a nexus, he said he has no issues. Running Jelly Bean. Factory reset didn't resolve issues.
GUYSSS!!! I've found the fix from this thread. Turn off your Google Location Services!!!!
Thanks! I've been having trouble with the GPS all day. I get quick and strong satellite signal, but it just refuses to lock. After disabling Google location services, I'm back to 3-10 second locks!

solved the issue for me
thanks. It (disabling location services) solved the issue for me too. I hope Google fixes its location services coupled with GPS.
Using stock yakjuu 4.0.4 with 4.1.1 ota galaxy nexus
My guess, our devices received corrupted aGPS data. Whether this happened from the solar storm or an outage from Google's SUPL servers, I don't know. I do know, clearing the aGPS data resolves the issue. Since this was not a localized event, my theory fits the bill. Also, using GPS Aides to grab the new data works.

If I clear aGPS data and try to get a lock with Google location services enabled, I still have the same issue. I get lots of signal with many satellites right away, but all satellites remain grey and are not in use. It takes forever to get a lock unless I disable google location services.
Edit:
All is well now even with location services enabled.

Hi all, exactly 2 weeks and 1 day ago I got a S2X, everything has been running great except it has a problem..
The GPS does not seem to work at all.
I've searched the net for any possible solution and most people have said to download GPS status or other similar app and wait till the phone gets an initial lock with more than 6 satellites. But here's my problem, my phone's GPS does not seem to work at all, whenever I try to locate my location it'd just gets stuck on SEARCHING FOR GPS for a looong time.. I've made sure I tested this on a clear day/sky so it should work..
Although, it seems like the GPS unit is able to get fix/sat but on 1-10 sattelites, it still says it is searching for GPS..
Because I bought this phone out from Koodo without a contract and It has been over 14 days I can no longer go back and exchange it.. Is there anything I can do to help fix the GPS problem?
EDIT:
I've tested this with a Telus SIM and Mobilicity Sim and both seems to work! GPS Status tells me that it is able to get fix/sat however the GPS icon still flashes and Google map still doesn't work..Also, there is no latitude or longitude or last fixed or even altitude as this picture..https://lh5.ggpht.com/JSUWXboRPtXJ_jTkWPx1MFizLa2TXA5U3kUHSunuNYY_CuE6FJpkTu2AFum_jlCcqydw
It only shows fix/sat and direction
No need to test Sims. It should be able to lock on without a Sim. So the problem is that your, phone doesn't lock on even though your apps says it does?
haven't heard of that problem. Have you tried a factory reset? Or a clean wipe if running custom roms?
What fixed it for me is flashing a modded radio.

You can try GPS Test on Play store. Open that app first, and wait until the satellites are locked, then open Google Maps. It will make Google maps locks faster. For me, google map is lazy and refuses to fix most of the time, but other gps-related apps still work great. I think its google map's issue, not your phone.

I also own galaxy s ii x. I have same issue. It has been like that since official ICS came out. No matter which radios or ROMs I use from JBs to ICS, I can never ever get GPS lock on google map period.
I was only able to get gps working again When I had gone back to Telus stock gingerbread.
I am still searching for a fix. It is not that your phone is defective. But I also wanna know how to solve this issue.

t mobile galaxy s ii
To hopefully help, I have a t mobile galaxy s ii. Had the same problem, brand spanking new phone and never really been able to get a GPS lock. I finally called t mobile and described the problem to the tech support people, went through my troubleshooting steps (reset, upgraded, etc, etc...). My new phone arrived yesterday....its a totally different phone. Same phone but it feels different. GPS locks with no issues...
You may have a hardware problem....
I have a s2x from Koodo as well, just ran navigation/google maps and got a gps signal in my basement with no probs. I am using AOKP rom though.
Did ur phone originally come with ICS or did u update via OTA?
Before u ever installed AOKP that is.

After I used odin back to Telus GB stock 2.3.5, I gained gps back.
I just rooted it and then flashed ptmr3's koodoo v3 ROM along with koodoo ics stock radio.
After several tests with gps status app and google maps, I have just confirmed gps locks in and works fine. Though gps does lock in very slow, I am just happy that the gps works now even on ICS

Since I have not posted 10 replies to the site, I'm using the Q&A to post some issues with the new Slimbean 4.3 weekly build 4.
The WiFi won't activate whenever the S3 is in range of a signal or site saved into the phone. I have to turn off the WiFi feature for about 10 seconds in order for the signal to be noticed/activated.
There is feedback from the Google Play Music app. I did not run a logcat to determine the time or frequency of the occurrence.
Finally, there appears to be an issue with the latest version of Maps along with location access. I uninstalled Maps 7.1 and placed 6.14 from the Slimroms site. It works better but the location access is still glitchy with other apps that require it.
All in all, this is however great progress on 4.3!

I'm not running slimbean, but I am on pac 4.3 and my wifi works fine. Maybe try either leankernel or kt747, the wifi drivers are contained in the kernel so maybe you'll have some more luck with them.
I've had an issue with the GPS as well, and disabling "use assisted GPS" in the phone settings fixed it 100%.

Thanks I'll give it a try.
The kt747 kernel works great! I also found out that the new privacy feature blocks GPS data coming in or going out. Turn off the privacy feature in the apps that require locator service.
